Proverbs 11:21-31
21  Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished; But the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.
22  As a ring of gold in a swine's snout, So is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.
23  The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
24  There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty.
25  The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.
26  The people will curse him who withholds grain, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.
27  He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, But trouble will come to him who seeks evil.
28  He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage.
29  He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind, And the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.
30  The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.
31  If the righteous will be recompensed on the earth, How much more the ungodly and the sinner.
Father God, I pray and ask that your Holy Spirit takes non-believers and leads them to the truth of the Gospel, and that those led to the truth will accept the truth and reject untrue doctrine and beliefs they are living by. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Gospel of John 3:18-22 NKJV
This lesson is about the change that takes place in the heart of a regenerated person. Anyone that is sincere and accepts Jesus as their Saviour, a change happens in that person’s life; a change that is done from the inside out starting with the heart of stone, which is enmity toward God, being replaced with a heart of flesh. It is a change the non-believed does not understand!
18  "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
He who believes in Him is not condemned; Anyone that believes in Jesus and what He did on the Cross for Humanity; that places their faith in Jesus; that has accepted Him; that relies on Him; that trusts His promises for salvation; that goes to Jesus for all things has eternal life here after.
God pardons sin, and delivers us from deserved punishment, because we believe in His Son Jesus. Jesus died in our place; He suffered for us, and by His sufferings our sins are atoned for; done away with by the sacrifice of Jesus which He offered on the Cross, and was accepted by God, to forgive sin. When a sinner believes in Jesus, he trusts in Him as having died in his place, and God having accepted the offering which Christ made in our place, as being an equivalent for our sufferings in hell, there is now no further condemnation. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
But he who does not believe is condemned already; A person that does not believe, meaning Born Again, is condemned because of the fall of Adam. Due to the fall and by the very act of having a human birth into this world, one stands “condemned.” It is called “original sin.”
Even though a child (meaning toddler, pre-teen, and possibly early teen) is protected through the state of innocence, upon reaching the age of accountability, whenever that may be, unless they are brought to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, the person is “condemned,” i.e., “lost.”
Because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God; This means, that believing in Jesus as a “Good Man” or “Miracle-Worker,” or even as a “Prophet,” will not suffice for eternal life in Heaven. One must believe in, and accept Him, as Saviour, meaning not wanting to live a life of inherited sin that separates him from Jesus and asks Jesus to forgive them because of the way they are living and that they want to live for Jesus. One must have the desire to live according to Jesus ways and not the ways of the world and what the world devises for salvation.
19  And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
And this is the condemnation; The word, “condemnation,” as it is used here, in the Greek Text is “krisis,” and means; this is the cause of condemnation; or this is the reason why men will be punished. Jesus came for the deliverance of mankind from their sinful nature, because they were already condemned due to the Fall of Adam. Jesus! condemnation will come at a later date when we stand before Him on Judgment Day.
That the light has come into the world; The light of course is referring to Jesus. Jesus is the truth and the way and through the teachings of the Gospel, sin is revealed in people’s lives. The light of Jesus denotes instruction, teaching, doctrine, etc. that illuminates the path of a sinners life.
And men loved darkness rather than light; Many people don't want their lives exposed to God's light because they are afraid of what will be revealed. They don't want to be changed. Darkness is the emblem of ignorance, iniquity, error, superstition, heritage, customs, rituals, false teachings; whatever is opposite to truth and godliness.
Because their deeds were evil; Men who commit crime commonly choose to do it in the night, so as to escape detection. So men who are wicked prefer false doctrine and dishonesty. Thus the Pharisees cloaked their crimes under the errors of their system; and, amid their false doctrines and superstitions, they attempted to convince others that they had great zeal for God.
20  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
For everyone practicing evil hates the light; This is true of all mankind. They choose to practice their deeds of wickedness in secret. They are afraid of openly practicing, because they can be easily detected. Therefore, most crimes are committed in the night. So it is with the sinner against God. The lost hates the gospel, even though they don’t realize it, but it condemns his conduct, and his conscience would trouble him if he was enlightened. How many times have you read the lists of sins in the NT and had a feeling of guilt come over you? The light of those words convicts the heart of a sinner, but life goes on as usual because the sinner hides those feelings of guilt out of shame. They don’t want anyone to know how wicked they are based on God’s Word, so they gloss over the list of sins and compares themselves with other human beings, but God knows!
And does not come to the light; Mankind by nature is a proud being and it is very difficult for a proud person to humble themselves and admit they are wrong, or don’t fully understand something especially spiritual, or come to grips that their heritage or what they have been taught is not the real truth. Therefore they won’t accept the light of Jesus for fear of what loved ones, neighbors, or society will think of them, so they continue their life as usual. It shouldn’t matter what others think of us, because the only thing that should matter is what “God thinks” of us. One day we will stand before God and not man for judgment.
Lest his deeds should be exposed; To “expose” here means not only to “detect” or make manifest, but also includes the idea of “condemnation” when his deeds are detected. The gospel would make his wickedness obvious, and his conscience would condemn him. What can we learn from this verse:
1.   That one design of the gospel is “to rebuke” men; to convict them of sin in order to bring a sinner to the foot of the Cross in repentance.
2.   That men by nature “hate” the gospel. No man who is a sinner loves it; and no man by nature is inclined to come to it, any more than an adulterer or thief is of a mind to come to the daylight, and do his deeds of wickedness there.
3.   The reason why the gospel, is hated is that men are born sinners. “Christ is hated because sin is loved.”
4.   The sinner must be convicted or convinced of sin. If it isn’t in this world, it will be in the next, which will be too late. There is no escape for him; and the only way to avoid condemnation in the world to come is to come humbly and acknowledge sin here and now, and seek forgiveness from Jesus.
21  But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."
If we would rephrase this verse it would read something like this; But those who are Born Again  come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.
But he who does the truth comes to the light; The sinner acts from falsehood and error. The true believer acts according to truth. The sinner believes a lie, that God will not punish, or that there is no God, or God is all forgiving and will forgive them when they stand before Him, or that God is all love and would not sent anyone to hell, or that there is no eternity and no hell. The Christian believes all these, and conducts their lives according to the truth of God. This is the difference between a Christian and a sinner.
A person has to have a desire to come to God. No one can force a person to turn to God, just like a person can’t force a horse to drink at the water trough. We can lead a horse to water and if it is thirsty it will drink otherwise it won’t. It is the same with people, they can be led to God but if they have no desire to accept what God has for them then all we can do is plant Gospel Seeds and pray they will germinate and grow. If a person does seek God then the Holy Spirit will guide them in their journey. If a person wants to or feels they need to do something toward salvation, then seeking God with a sincere heart is all that is required, good works and deeds will not get a person that free gift of Grace from God. John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
That his deeds may be clearly seen; This phrase proclaims the great change that takes place in the Believer’s life, upon coming to Christ. The evil deeds are forever gone, with righteous deeds taking their place.
A child of God has the light of Jesus shining forth from them. Their deeds are clearly seen and not understood by those around them. For example; at work co-workers may try to get the Christian to slow down production or stand around and talk when there is work to be done. The Christian views this as stealing from the company and may even state this, but the co-workers just laugh it off. Another fine example of thievery at work in current times is when employees surf the internet when they are supposed to be working. The boss may not know the actions of their employees under the veil of darkness and secrecy, but God knows and one day will have to answer for those sins come Judgment Day unless one repents and accepts Jesus before they die.
That they have been done in God; This phrase is referring to the conduct or lifestyle of a child of God. That their deeds are performed according to the will of God, or by the assistance of God’s Spirit, and are such as God will approve. The actions of good people are performed by the influence and aid of the Holy Spirit. The character of a Born Again Christian is:
1.   He does truth. He loves it, seeks it, and follows it.
2.   He comes to the light. He does not attempt to deceive himself or others.
3.   He is willing to know himself, and aims to do it. He desires to know the true state of his heart before God.
4.   A special object of his efforts is that his deeds may be “shaped in God.” He desires to be a good man; to receive continual aid from God, and to perform such actions as He will approve. A true Christian does these things out of love for Jesus because of what Jesus did for him on the Cross.
We have to work out our own salvation, not in good deeds and works, but through the Word of God and humbling ourselves in repentance. Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
22  After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized.
With the cleansing of the temple and discussions that Jesus had with the Pharisees, hostility was starting to take place, therefore Jesus and His disciples moved out of the metropolis of Jerusalem and into the region of Judea. As we see in the upcoming verses this area was in close proximity of where John the Baptist was still baptizing those that came to him. In this area Jesus disciples baptized those that became believers. Only the disciples did the baptizing, not Jesus. John 4:2 (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples)
“This is the close of our Lord’s discourse with Nicodemus - a discourse condensing the gospel, giving the most striking exhibition and illustration of truth, and representing especially the fundamental doctrine of regeneration and the evidence of the change. It is clear that the Saviour regarded this as lying at the foundation of religion. Without it we cannot possibly be saved. And now it becomes every reader, as in the presence of God, and in view of the judgment-seat of Christ, solemnly to ask himself whether he has experienced this change? Whether he knows by experience what it is to be born of that Spirit? If he does he will be saved. If not, he is in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity, and should give no sleep to his eyes until he has made his peace with God.” (Barnes)

Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe it with your heart, Jesus will save you!
“Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and have faith you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and lead me in a new life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.”

Proverbs 11:11-20
11  By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted, But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
12  He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor, But a man of understanding holds his peace.
13  A talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter.
14  Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
15  He who is surety for a stranger will suffer, But one who hates being surety is secure.
16  A gracious woman retains honor, But ruthless men retain riches.
17  The merciful man does good for his own soul, But he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.
18  The wicked man does deceptive work, But he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward.
19  As righteousness leads to life, So he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death.
20  Those who are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the LORD, But the blameless in their ways are His delight.
Father God, I pray and ask that hearts of stone be changed to hearts of flesh. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Gospel of John 3:8-17 NKJV
This lesson still involves the discussion between Jesus and Nicodemus pertaining to eternal life. Jesus uses an example of how the wind blows and the mystery of the wind to illustrate the mystery of a Spiritual Birth. Jesus also uses the serpent on a brass pole to illustrate a physical healing to a spiritual healing through believing.
8  The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."
The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes; Here Jesus is using the wind to compare the phenomenon of being Born Again. The wind comes and goes, but is impossible to tell exactly how this happens. Whether the wind is a slight breeze or a hurricane, the direction it is going, how it originates, etc. we don’t fully understand. If one watches the Weather Channel when they feature strange weather both wind and cloud formations, some things are baffling and non-comprehensible but true.
We can feel the wind whether a gentle breeze or a stout wind, but we can’t see, taste, or smell it, but we can witness what it can and does do. We don’t know where it came from or where it is going. There are things about the wind that we don’t understand, but accept the mystery of wind and not deny its presence, and the same holds true for being Born Again.
So is everyone who is born of the Spirit; Being born of the Spirit is beyond our comprehension because it is a spiritual happening that we as humans struggle with in accepting. God is the author of salvation and a Spiritual Birth is carried out by the power of the Holy Spirit. We know salvation is a gift of God, but the manner in which this changing of a human heart happens when a person accepts Jesus is like the wind and unclear to us how this happens.
Therefore what we must do is accept this miracle in a person’s life and observe and validate the authenticity of the change. Is this just a fad and falls by the wayside or is it a change in the person’s life that bears fruit from that day forward? In other words which seed is it in the parable of the sower? Mark 4:3-20
Everyone that is born of the Spirit is, in some respects, like the effects of the wind. You see it not, you cannot discern its laws, but you see its effects,” and you know therefore that it does exist and operate. The point being is not to believe, just because we don’t understand, but believe! Remove the tunnel vision; believe and start living the truth of the Bible; seek what a Born Again person has for yourself.
9  Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?"
Nicodemus, not being Born Again at this particular time is struggling with what Jesus is saying, even though he has vast intelligence in the religion of his people. We must wonder how much of the OT Scripture he really knew. He was lost not only eternally, but also in his religious teachings. He was practicing and teaching faith in the doctrine of mans religion and not in the truth of Scripture.
10 Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?
Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel; Here Jesus uses the word teacher just as Nicodemus did in verse 2. Being a teacher of the Jewish people and very knowledgeable of the OT, he should have understood what salvation was, but he didn’t.
Just because a person goes to college to become a pastor or priest doesn’t mean that they have all the answers or the correct interpretation of scripture. Take the Apostles for example, they were just ordinary individuals without an education but knew true scripture interpretation, but only after they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Many times Jesus had to explain the parables to them before they were filled.
Paul is another fine example of being very knowledgeable of OT Scripture, but had the wrong interpretation until Jesus got a hold of him and then he became wise. So just because a person has a higher education or wears a collar doesn’t mean they are correct. So many times humans put people on a pedestal because of their education or rank in society and believe everything they say, but in God’s view are wrong.
And do not know these things; When worldly-minded men are placed in offices of religion because they seek those offices for the sake of status, it is no wonder that they are strangers to the plain truths of the Bible. There has been many and still are in the ministry that pride themselves on status and not the truth of the plainest doctrines of the gospel. It is most probable that Nicodemus fell into this category. No man can understand the Bible fully unless he is a humble Christian, and the easiest way to comprehend the truths of scripture is to give the heart to God and live to his glory. A child of God may have more real knowledge of the way of salvation than many who are pretended masters and teachers of Israel. Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness.
Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen; Jesus uses the word “we” meaning the Trinity, Apostles that were with Him, along with the Prophets of past. What was preached was the truth and the miracles were signs of the power of God within the person performing the miracles. With Jesus omniscient eyes He sees everything and the apostles witnessed firsthand the change that took place in the people that believed.
And you do not receive Our witness; The word “you” in this phrase pertains to the Jewish Sanhedrin. They would not believe in what Jesus was teaching because they were stuck in the quicksand of their tradition and religion of their past. They were “of their father the Devil, and the lust of their father they would do” (John 8:44).
The same holds true today and always has. The majority of those who call themselves “Believers,” and the majority of those who are referred to as spiritual leaders, “receive not His witness and Word”, but cling to man’s ways.  John 8:44 would also apply to them.
12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe; This phrase is referring to the things that have taken place here on earth, like miracles, OT scripture, the Incarnation, etc. Jesus knew what was in Nicodemus heart and could see that he didn’t believe in all of the OT teachings, and this is why Nicodemus came to question Jesus. He picked, chose, and twisted the scripture he wanted to believe in, which is still happening today.
How will you believe if I tell you heavenly things; In effect, this tells us that if we are to know Jesus as God (Heavenly things), we must first know Jesus and the Incarnation (earthly things). Nicodemus had addressed Jesus as merely a “Teacher.” So until he or we understand God becoming flesh and dwelling among men, he and we will not understand Heavenly things.
13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
If we rephrase this verse it would read like this; No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man who lives in heaven has come down from heaven. What Jesus is saying is that He came from Heaven, His home, in human flesh and will return to Heaven at the resurrection from the grave. In essence Jesus is telling us that He was in Heaven the same time He was here on earth in the flesh. How can this be you ask; Jesus is the second person in the Trinity; He is God and God is Jesus. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness; Jesus proceeds in this verse and the following verses to state the reason why He came to earth and to do this He illustrates His plan of salvation, by using the raising of the brass serpent, recorded in Numbers 21:8-9. The people were bitten by a plague of flying fiery serpents because of their rebelliousness toward God. There was no cure for the bite and God told Moses to make an image of the serpent, and place it in sight of the people and if they looked at it and believed, they would live physically. There is no evidence that this was intended to be a type of the Messiah, but it is used by Jesus as a striking illustration of His work. Men are sinners, there is no cure by human means for the corruptness of the soul; and as the people who were bitten might look at the image of the serpent and live physically, so sinners may look to Jesus and believe and be cured of the moral corruptness of their nature and live spiritually forever.
Even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; With this phrase Jesus refers to his own death and being raised on a cross. Compare John 12:32; John 8:28. The points of resemblance between his being lifted up and that of the brass serpent are these:
1. In each case those who are to be benefited can he aided in no other way than by God. The bite of the serpent was physically deadly, and could be healed only by looking at the raised brass serpent; the bite of sin is spiritually deadly and can only be removed by looking to the Cross of Christ.
2. The mode of their being lifted up. The brass serpent was on a pole; Jesus was exalted from the earth raised on a cross.
3. The design was similar. The one was to save the life, the other the soul; the one to save from temporal, the other from eternal death.
4. The manner of the cure was similar. The people of Israel were to look on the serpent and be healed, and so sinners are to look on the Lord Jesus that they may be saved.
John 12:32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself." John 8:28 Then Jesus said to them, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.
15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
This verse tells us that anyone that repents and places their faith in Jesus Christ will be saved, which destroys the belief of some, that God picks and chooses who will be saved, referring to predestination. Jesus will save anyone that repents of their sinful lifestyle no matter how bad they are. If Jesus forgave the Apostle Paul for killing His saints He can forgive you.
There is salvation no other way, it is free for all who will come, and it is easy. What was easy for a poor, wounded, dying Israelite, bitten by a poisonous serpent to look up to a brass serpent on a pole to be healed, is just as easy for a  poor, lost, dying sinner to look up to Jesus. What foolishness it is for a wounded, serpent bitten dying man to refuse to look on a remedy so easy and effective for life. The same foolishness holds true for the lost and dying sinner to “refuse” to look to God’s only Son for eternal life. Jesus died for all mankind so whosoever could turn to Him for salvation.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
This verse restates what the previous verse states. God loves His human creations and does not want to see them perish in the fires of Hell. There is no other definition of love that can express the love of God. God loves us so much He was willing to send His only begotten Son to earth in human flesh to be the ultimate sacrifice on the Cross for redemption of our sins. Jesus loves us so much He was willing to come to earth in human flesh to die on the Cross in our place to redeem us. All we have to do is come to the altar of the Cross, repent, ask forgiveness, and accept Jesus into our life for eternal life. What could be easier, yet people refuse?
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Jesus didn’t come to condemn people or to judge and pronounce sentence on mankind, even though man deserved condemnation. God’s love for us was so great that He was willing to pardon our sins through Jesus, and the sentence of condemnation was delayed. There is a time coming when Jesus will return and judge the living and the dead.

1  Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.
2  When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.
3  The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.
4  Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.
5  The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.

7  When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of the unjust perishes.
8  The righteous is delivered from trouble, And it comes to the wicked instead.
9  The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
10  When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices; And when the wicked perish, there is jubilation.
Father God, I pray and ask that those who read your lesson will open their mind and heart to what your Son Jesus tells us. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Gospel of John 3:4-7 NKJV
With this lesson we continue with Nicodemus coming to Jesus in the night. Jesus tells Nicodemus about salvation and what he and we must do to have a Spiritual Birth. It is all about faith in God and has nothing to do about religion, heritage, customs, rituals, laws, or works.
4  Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
These questions Nicodemus asks here tells us he has no clue as to what Jesus is saying, and is showing his ignorance because he had drifted away from the Word of God like so many of his brethren. The Jew had a gradual shift toward Salvation by natural birth as a Jew, good works and religious ritual. This Spiritual Birth that Jesus is mentioning is about a person being regenerated by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is talking spiritual and Nicodemus is thinking literal. This term “to be born again” was common among the Jews to denote a change from “Genteelism” to “Judaism” by becoming a proselyte by baptism. These words meant a change from the state of a pagan to that of a Jew. But they never used it as applicable to a Jew, because they supposed that by their birth every Jew was entitled to all the privileges God had to offer because they were God’s chosen people.
The Scripture plainly says that Nicodemus was a Pharisee, which meant that he subscribed to the myriad of man-devised oral religious laws, which had been added to the Law of Moses. However, when men begin to forsake the Word of God, thereby adding their own words, as Nicodemus, they cease to understand spiritual things, even though continuing to be very religious. Nicodemus and his fellow scholars of scripture should have understood what Jesus was talking about because regeneration is in the OT scriptures.
Jeremiah 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, And take away the foreskins of your hearts, You men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Lest My fury come forth like fire, And burn so that no one can quench it, Because of the evil of your doings." Deuteronomy 30:6 And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. Psalms 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Ezekiel 36:26-27 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.  27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
We still have this spiritual comprehension with people today. You will have people say they belong to the true church, their religion is the only true religion, and probably in most instances their faith for salvation is in the religion, works, and rituals of the religion and not in Jesus and His death and resurrection, so what can we learn from this? (1.) That prejudice leads men to misunderstand the plainest doctrines of religion. (2.) That things which are at first incomprehensible or apparently absurd, may, when explained, become clear. The doctrine of regeneration, so difficult to Nicodemus, is plain to a “child” that is born of the Spirit. (3.) Those in high ranks in life, and who are educated, can be ignorant about the plainest matters of religion. (4.) A doctrine is not to be rejected because the rich and the great do not believe or understand it. Just because the doctrine of regeneration is not understood does not make it false. (5.) Pride can keep a person chained in false doctrine.
5  Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
In this verse Jesus is explaining the importance of a spiritual birth, saying that people don't enter the Kingdom by living a better or good life, but by being spiritually born. This verse has been one of great debate over the years. The phrase, “Born of water,” speaks of the natural birth, of which Jesus speaks of in the next verse, and pertains to a baby being born, while being “Born of the Spirit” speaks of a Spiritual Birth, which is brought about by God Alone.
Many believe this pertains to Baptism and by pouring water over or by immersing a person in water that the water cleanses one of sin, therefore born of water. As stated in the past, baptism is an outward sign of one giving their life to Jesus to rule and reign over them, and that they belong to God’s Kingdom, just like a wedding ring is and outward sign to a married couple of their commitment to each other.
Those that John the Baptist baptized was not held up as containing any type of Saving Grace. In other words, the act of Water Baptism did not save anyone and cannot save anyone. John, by this Baptism, did not give repentance nor remission of sins to the people. Only when a person fully realizes that they are born with a sin nature, that was handed down from Adam, and confesses their sinfulness to Jesus, and that they no longer want to live like they have been, then by the power of the Holy Spirit they are Born Again (Born of the Spirit). Water Baptism is the result of a finished work brought about in the hearts and lives of Believers who have already repented. Water Baptism is the result of a Spiritual Birth and not the event. Nothing but the Blood and Spirit of Christ can convey remission or repentance to the souls of men. John preached the Baptism of Repentance, meaning a launching of a new life.
Nowhere does John the Baptist claim that with Water Baptism there is regenerating effectiveness in a person’s life nor is there in today’s Christian Baptisms, even though Christian Baptism definitely serves a purpose, just as did the Baptism of John. However, that purpose has nothing to do with one’s Salvation, which comes exclusively by Faith in Christ.
Christian Baptism is meant to serve as a symbol of the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Christ, carried out in the heart and life of the Believer upon conversion. As well, when the Believer is Baptized, not in order to be saved, but as a result of having been saved, Water Baptism is a symbol of the death of the old man/lifestyle of sin, the burial of that old man/lifestyle, and the Resurrection of a new man/lifestyle. This is symbolized by the person being immersed totally in water and then brought out. It is to fulfill all Righteousness, and the answer of a good conscience/commitment toward God (Matthew 3:15; I Peter 3:21).
There is no proof at all that the Apostles of Christ were ever baptized with water unless it was at the hands of John, or during the early Ministry of Jesus. We know Paul was baptized but that was after he repented of his lifestyle and accepted Jesus. We also know that the one thief on the cross was not baptized, but feared God and repented of his life and Jesus told him he would be with him in Paradise that day. How do we know the thief wasn’t baptized, because if he had been baptized he wouldn’t have been leading the life of a thief. So anyone that believes being baptized they will go to Heaven is clinging to a false hope based on Scripture. Luke 23:39-43
Jesus answered, "Most assuredly; Meaning this statement is true, you can be assured that what I say is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
I say to you, unless one is born of water; Refers to our natural human birth.
And the Spirit; Refers to a Spiritual Birth through repentance by the power of God’s.
He cannot enter the kingdom of God; Jesus tells us here we cannot enter His Fathers Kingdom unless we repent and are Born of His Spirit.
6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; Here Jesus is telling us what born of the flesh, out of flesh is. The word “flesh” here is used as meaning “corrupt, defiled, sinful.” The “flesh” in Scriptures is often used to denote the sinful disposition and passions of our human nature. That which is born of flesh from flesh is corrupt by nature due to the fall of Adam. Jesus is telling Nicodemus and us, even if we could enter into our mother’s womb, and have another human birth, it would do no good because birth by man produces corruptness and only corruptness. We would still have the same desires and passions of the flesh. Job states this truth; Job 14:4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one! The Apostle Paul states this truth; Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Paul also tells us that our flesh produces these things; Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,  20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,  21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. What Paul is actually saying in his last sentence is this, if you’re not Born Again you will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
And that which is born of the Spirit is spirit; Born of the Spirit refers to the power of God; His Spirit; for this birth to take place within a person’s heart. God and only God enables this to happen within a person when they confess with a repentant heart that they are sinful and want to change their lifestyle. We learn:
1.  that all men born of flesh have a sinful nature that was inherited from Adam.
2.  that no one is renewed but by the Spirit of God. If man did the work himself, he would still be carnal and impure.
3.  that the effect of the Spiritual birth is to make men holy.
4.  That no man can claim to be Born Again unless the person is regenerated by the power of the Holy Spirit, meaning a change in lifestyle, habits, desire to read the Bible, loving others, no hatred, in other words burying the list of sin that is above in Galatians and taking up the fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.  24 And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.  26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
So Jesus makes it clear we need a Spiritual Birth in order to get passage into heaven. It isn’t through religion, or doing good deeds, or through Baptism, or being a good person, or going to church every weekend, or showing kindness to fellow human beings, or doing works of charity, etc. because these things would be works to a non-believer and they would do them out of obligation to please God so they can go to Heaven. Now don’t misunderstand me, a Born Again person will do these things out of love because all of a sudden they will want to do them out of love and not out of necessity. They will do them out of love because they have been regenerated into the likeness of Jesus by the Holy Spirit living within the heart of the New Born person and the love of Jesus will shine forth from the New Believer. It is through faith in the acts of the Cross that saves a person, not by works.
7  Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'
Do you think Jesus made this statement because of the expression on Nicodemus face? I think so; I think Nicodemus was totally baffled. I think Jesus just pulled the rug out from under Nicodemus by telling him he had to be Born Again. Everything Nicodemus believed in and taught was just destroyed by Jesus. In just a few moments Nicodemus belief of heritage, national privilege, sacramental purifications, religious rituals, habits of man devised laws meant nothing at all to our Lord. Jesus just told him he was no better than a Gentile and what a blow that must have been to Nicodemus, but he was open minded and took it to heart as we will see later in this Gospel.
These verses could be a dry run for hundreds of millions of others, when they stand before God one day, and find out that all their good works, ritualistic religion, and beautiful ceremonies had absolutely nothing to do with being right with God? “You must be Born Again” says it all and this alone will be recognized by our Creator.
Entrance into the human family is by natural birth, and into the Divine family by Spiritual Birth. As it is impossible to enter the human family except by natural birth, so is it impossible to enter the Divine Family except by Spiritual Birth (Williams).
Are we like Nicodemus? Are we taught ritualistic religion with an abundance of manmade laws, or bible facts that are twisted to fit some ones beliefs, and not the true word? Are the minister, pastors, priests, teachers, etc. that are ministering to us Born Again? If they aren’t Born Again can they teach Bible scripture and convey what God is saying accurately or are we being taught about Jesus and his word as a history lesson? Do you truly believe in Jesus, what he did for you, and willing to put your life in his hands, or just know who he is like famous people of the past like Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, etc.? Have we been taught what we need to do to be Born Again to receive the Grace of God? The Bible, Holy and True Word of God, teaches how to be Born of the Spirit, so that we will have our name written in the Book of Life. Don’t let any man or any religion stand between you and eternal life! Don’t be afraid of turning your back on a religion or what people will think about you if you forsake all you know or have been raise in to follow Jesus. All that matters is what Jesus will think. Ask questions, Seek answers, and Knock on Jesus door!  Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you:
Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
