Psalms 139:13-24 For You
formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You,
for I am fearfully and
wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret, And
skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my
substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days
fashioned for me, When as yet there
were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How
great is the sum of them! If I
should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I
am still with You. Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God! Depart from me,
therefore, you bloodthirsty men. For they speak against You wickedly; Your
enemies take Your name in vain.
Do I not hate them, O LORD, who hate You? And do I not loathe those who rise up
against You? I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies. Search
me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And
lead me in the way everlasting.
Father God, thank you for the gift of Your Son that died
for us so we don’t have to die Spiritually. I pray for the movement of the Holy
Spirit and fruit of Salvation for those that don’t know you as your child. I pray and ask for this in Jesus name, Amen!
Book of Hebrews 9:20-28 NKJV
This
lesson is all about the Gospel of Jesus, the Cross, the Blood, and what Faith
is. If you haven’t given your heart to Jesus, today is the Day of Salvation for
You. It is never too late or sin too bad that Jesus won’t accept you as His
child if you repent and accept Him as your Lord.
20 saying, "THIS IS THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT
WHICH GOD HAS COMMANDED YOU."
This
verse is taken from Exodus 24:8 that Paul
is quoting here. This is God’s seal, His solemn oath with the Israelites
concerning the covenant He made with them.
Going
back to verse 19 and reading it so we can understand what this verse is about
goes like this; Hebrews
9:19-20 For when Moses had spoken
every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of
calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the
book itself and all the people, 20 saying,
"THIS IS THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT WHICH GOD HAS COMMANDED YOU."
Saying, THIS IS THE
BLOOD OF THE COVENANT;
Which means, this is the blood by which the covenant is sealed or guaranteed by
God. It was the means used to confirm it, the sacred and solemn oath by God was
sealed with blood. When this was done, the covenant between God and the people
was confirmed as a covenant between Him and man.
When Moses said, “This is
the Blood,” even though it was only the blood of animals, it represented the
Son of God, and made the statement that this is the only way that man can be
saved.
When we speak of “The Blood,” we are also speaking of “The Cross,” or of “The Gospel,” or of “The
Faith.” They basically all mean the same thing! When the message of the Cross,
the Blood, the Gospel, or the Faith is preached/taught, it is in reference to
the shed Blood of Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection! I surely hope and
pray that all can see the vast significance in all of this, and how important
it is that our Faith be properly placed in what Jesus did at Calvary for us.
When Adam and Eve fell
from God’s grace through disobedience in the Garden of Eden, eternal spiritual life
was forfeited, which speaks of Heaven when we die. In other words, the life
force that came constantly from God to Adam, and was intended to continue to
come to all who would be born thereafter, was suddenly cut off. Due to Adam’s fall,
it was cut off not only to the first man, but as well to all who would follow
thereafter. Why is that, because we all come from Adam, so when he sinned, he
sinned for all, in other words sin was engrained in his DNA and was handed down
through generations to all of mankind including us of present time. When Christ
died on the Cross He purchased back “Spiritual Life” with His pure and perfect Blood
because He was without sin, He did this for us so those who will believe (John
3:16) can have
eternal life by being Born Again. This is why Jesus stated this; John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again,
he cannot see the kingdom of God."John
3:5-6 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I
say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the
kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is
born of the Spirit is spirit.
We have all heard the
saying there were two Adams, the first being Adam, the first man God made, who
fell from God’s Grace due to disobedience. The second is Jesus Christ who was
pure and sinless. Do you understand that it was necessary for Jesus to come to
earth as a second Adam in human form; to be perfect and sinless; to shed His
blood that gives eternal spiritual life; to redeem mankind because of the
inherited sin nature we have? When we were conceived and had our physical birth
we were born of water/flesh. It is believing in Jesus and what He did for us as
the second Adam that we achieve a spiritual birth meaning, being Born Again.
This puts us back in God’s grace and gains us eternal life in Heaven. Nothing
else, but understanding and believing in why Jesus had to come, and why He had
to die on the Cross for us, so we could have a spiritual birth and eternal life
in Heaven. This is why it is so important that one puts their faith in Jesus
Christ and the Acts of the Cross and not in religion. This is what Paul is
preaching to the Hebrew people and to us today, to deny their past, their
heritage, their religion, what mom and dad taught them, what their
interpretation of scripture was and place their faith in Jesus and His
sacrificed blood. Salvation is by faith and faith alone! 1 Corinthians 15:45-50 And so it is written, "THE FIRST MAN ADAM
BECAME A LIVING BEING." The last (Second) Adam became
a life-giving spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the
natural, and afterward the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the earth, made
of dust; the second Man is the
Lord from heaven. 48 As was
the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man,
so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And as we
have borne the image of the man
of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood
cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.
WHICH
GOD HAS COMMANDED YOU; The phrase, “Which God has commanded you,” presents the fact that everything in
the First Covenant and in the New Covenant, is all of God, and not of man. If
man adds anything or subtracts anything, he destroys what God has commanded us.
Sad to say that man does add and subtract things from God’s Covenant and what
is going on in society, religions, and around the world is the results. Man
alters God’s way to fit their way of life because mankind views themselves as
good and man measures their words, thoughts, and actions against other human
beings and not Gods Ten Commandments.
In
the transactions between God and man, though called a Covenant or Testament, it
is definitely not a transaction between equals, or an agreement in this
capacity. It is in fact, a solemn arrangement on the part of God, which He
proposes to men, where He invites them to embrace. You see God doesn’t force
anything on us that is why He gave us free will to choose Him and not the
world. If we don’t choose God and the way of His New Covenant, our eternal fate
is Hell.
The
testator of the First Covenant was God, for it was God Who was the source of
Salvation for believers in Old Testament times. But God was not yet ready to
come in the Person of His Son and die on the Cross for man. Therefore, He
provided a substitute that would typically represent Him in death, a death that
would make the First Testament effective. This substitute was an animal,
therefore the emphasis in the Old and New covenant bears the mark of blood, meaning
physical death a sacrifice of life giving blood.
21 Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the
tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry.
This tells us that
whatever man touches must be cleansed with atoning blood if it is to be used in
service to God. It defines the awfulness of sin that has impregnated this
earth.
22 And according to the law almost all things are
purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
And
according to the law almost all things are purified with blood; This phrase states almost all things
are purified with blood. We have talked about the washings in past lessons.
There were water washing rituals in the Old Covenant such as a healed leaper
had to be washed after being healed, the washing of baptism, there was washing
of hands and feet of Aaron and his sons when entering the tabernacle, a woman
had to be washed after her cycle, etc.
And
without shedding of blood there is no remission; Why does forgiveness require the
shedding of blood? Because there is no greater symbol of life than blood; blood
keeps us alive. Jesus shed his blood; gave his life; for our sins so that we
wouldn't have to experience spiritual death, which is eternal separation from
God. Jesus is the source of life, not death. He gave his own life to pay our
penalty for us so that we might live, eternally. After shedding his blood for
us, Christ rose from the grave and proclaimed victory over sin and death.
23 Therefore it
was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be
purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices
than these.
Therefore
it was necessary that the
copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these; This phrase is referring to all the
things pertaining to the earthly tabernacle which is a replica of what is in
Heaven. Being on earth and touched by sinful man they all had to be purified
with sacrificial blood of an animal.
But
the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these; These things that are in Heaven are
cleansed with a more perfect blood, our Saviour’s blood.
24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made
with hands, which are copies of
the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
For
Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands; This phrase is referring to the man
made tabernacles that man made. Jesus was not a Levitical priest and therefore
never entered into the Holy of Holies. His sacrifice was not made in the temple
it was made in the open on the Cross for all to see and for all to come to Him
and believe if they so desire.
Which are copies of the true; Again Paul states the tabernacles on
earth are of man, but copies of what is in Heaven.
But
into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; Jesus opened the gates of Heaven when
He died and rose from the dead. Matthew
27:50-53 Then Jesus
shouted out again, and He released His spirit.
51 At that moment the curtain in the
sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook,
rocks split apart, 52 and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and
women who had died were raised from the dead.
53 They left the cemetery after Jesus'
resurrection, went into the holy city of Jerusalem, and appeared to many
people. He claimed
victory for us by defeating Satan. Now He is seated at the righteous right hand
of God to intercede for Born Again Christians. He is there on our behalf and
can be encouraged by it. Christ is on our side at God's side. He is our Lord
and Savior. He is not there to convince or remind God that our sins are
forgiven but to present both our needs and our service for him as an offering. Hebrews 7:25 NLT Therefore He is able, once and forever, to save
those who come to God through Him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their
behalf.
25 not that He should offer Himself often, as the
high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another—
All people die physically,
but Christ died so that we would not have to die spiritually. He only had to
die once for us because of His holiness making His blood pure and spotless that
gives us eternal life, if we choose. We can have wonderful confidence in His
saving work for us, doing away with sin; past, present, and future. He has
forgiven our past sin, when he died on the cross, he sacrificed himself once
for all (Hebrews 9:26);
he has given us the Holy Spirit to help us deal with present sin; he appears
before God for us now in heaven (Hebrews 9:24); and he promises to return (Hebrews
9:28) and raise us to
eternal life in a world where sin will be banished.
26 He then would have had to suffer often since the
foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared
to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
He
then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; This phrase is referring to the Old
Covenant and the yearly sacrifices priests had to make for people which were
insufficient to forgive sin. Jesus wasn’t functioning as a Priest where
sacrifices had to be repeated.
But
now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the
sacrifice of Himself;
The "end of the age" refers to the time of Christ's coming to earth
in fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies. Christ ushered in the new era
of grace and forgiveness, referred to as the Church Age. We are still living in
the Church Age when the day of our Lord started it and it will be completed when
He returns to wipe out evil, and reign as our King forever. He is our King of
Kings and Lord of Lords and all will bow and every knee will bend before Him
some day.
27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but
after this the judgment,
And
as it is appointed for men to die once; Do to the fall of man (the inherited sin nature), man is
destined to die physically and spiritually when lost in sin.
But
after this the judgment; This
verse would be better understood phrase like this; “And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes
judgment”. Judgment is not a popular theme today, but the Bible teaches
that judgment is coming. Do you look forward to Christ's return, or do you see
it as a threat? As sure as death itself, judgment awaits! At God's judgment
there will be no higher court of appeal should the verdict not be to your
liking. If you hope for a favorable verdict in this court, put your faith
entirely in Jesus and His death and resurrection. Pray today, now if you
haven't before, for the freedom and pardon Jesus has won for you. Then rejoice
that God's judgment of you will be based on the perfect life of his Son, Jesus.
After that, tell others, for many will face an unfavorable judgment without
Jesus.
28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of
many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart
from sin, for salvation.
So
Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many; The Cross of Christ was God’s answer
for the forgiveness of sin. Faith in Jesus death and resurrection is the only
answer. Just as the patriarchs of old had faith in God, we have to place our
faith in Jesus for the reward of Heaven and eternal life with Him.
To
those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time; This refers God’s Saints (Born Again) waiting
for the Second Coming of Christ, Armageddon.
Apart
from sin, for salvation;
“Apart from sin” refers to the fact that the Second Coming will not be to atone
for sin, because that already transpired at the Cross. The Second Coming will
bring all the results of Salvation to this world with Jesus as our Ruler.
Colossians
1:16 For
by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible
and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.

all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans
6:23 For
the wages of sin is death, but
the gift of God is eternal life

to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
The Lighthouse Full Gospel Church
Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe
it with your heart, Jesus will save you!
“Lord Jesus I know I
am a sinner. I confess my sins to you; I
am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful
lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness of all of my
sins. I believe that only you can
forgive sin. I commit my life to you and
ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life. I believe that you died to set me free from
my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and
right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are
the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my
Savior.” I believe this and have faith
you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my
heart and lead me in a new life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.” (John 3:16,17;
Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1
John 5:11-14; 1:6-10) (Sin: Rom.
1:22-32; Gal. 5:19-21; Eph. 5:3-7)
I included some info about the Psalm at the beginning. I really like this Psalm and what it says.
CXXXIX. PSALM ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-NINE
A. THE AUTHORSHIP OF THIS PSALM—It is the
second of eight successive psalms ascribed to David.
B. THE ADDRESSEE OF THIS PSALM—It is addressed
to “the Chief Musician” (the Choir-master).
C. THE PRAISE OF THIS PSALM—It is one of the
most highly-praised of the psalms. Perowne says: “Nowhere are the great
attributes of God, His Omniscience, His Omnipresence, His Omnipotence, set
forth so strikingly as they are in this magnificent psalm.” Aben Ezra says that
it is “the crown of all the psalms.” Spurgeon says: “The brightness of this
psalm is like unto a sapphire stone, or Ezekiel’s ‘terrible crystal’; it flames
out with such flashes of light as to turn night unto day.” Many other glowing
tributes have been paid to this psalm by eminent scholars and students of God’s
word.
D. THE THEME OF THIS PSALM—The relationship of
man to the great attributes of God
E. THE OUTLINE OF THIS PSALM
1. The
omniscience of God (139:1–6)
a. God knows when we sit down to meditate and
when we rise up to act.
b. God knows our thoughts, however great the
distance between us and Him.
c. God knows and compasses (sifts, winnows)
our deeds when we are walking in the day and after we lie down at night.
d. God is acquainted (familiar) with all of
our ways (our habitual courses of action).
e. God knows our words before they are spoken.
f. God shuts us in and lays His hand upon us
to cause us to do His will.
Such knowledge as is possessed by
God is beyond our power of comprehension, verse 6.
2. The
omnipresence of God (139:7–12)
We cannot hide
from God or flee from God for:
a. God is in both Heaven and Hades (the unseen
world).
b. God is in the most inaccessible parts of
the sea.
c. God is in the darkness and the night.
3. The
omnipotence of God (139:13–18)
(Or we might
better use the heading: “The craftsmanship of God”)
a. God formed (not “possessed”) our reins (the
seat of our desires and longings).
b. God wove us together in the womb.
c. God put us together as human beings
fearfully and wonderfully.
d. God, in the lower parts of the earth (the
womb), put our frame (“substance”) together as embroidery work.
e. God saw our embryo (“substance” here in
verse 16 has reference to a compact mass, the fetus or embryo) while it was yet
imperfect (undeveloped) and He developed from this embryo all of our members as
they were written in His book (His mind).
In verses 17
and 18, the Psalmist, as he did in verse 6, interrupts his train of thought by
breaking forth in an exclamation of wonder and admiration. “How numerous are
your precious thoughts toward me.”
4. The
omnirighteousness (omniholiness) of God (139:19–24)
a. God
destroys incorrigible sinners (139:19a)
b. David
sanctifies Himself from those who hate God (139:19b–22)
David hates
them, counts them his enemies, and separates himself from them.
c. God
sanctifies His saints (139:23, 24)
All true
saints, to some degree, have the desire for holiness that is expressed by David
in these verses, 1 John 3:2, 3.
F. THE LESSONS TAUGHT BY THIS PSALM
1. We cannot hide anything from God.
2. We cannot go any place where God is not
present.
3. We are so wonderfully made that we cannot
fully understand ourselves.
4. We should stand against sinners (as David
did).
5. We should desire sanctification from all
sin (as David did).
