Psalms 67:1-7 To the Chief Musician. On Stringed Instruments. God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us, That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations. Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You. Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, And govern the nations on earth. Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You. Then the earth shall yield her increase; God, our own God, shall bless us. God shall bless us, And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him. Father I come before you in the name of Jesus. I ask that you touch each person and family that reads this message of your. Provide for them all things that they are in need of. We need you in our lives!  Amen!
Romans 7:14-25 NKJV
What we have been discussing in this chapter is a Holy War that takes place within us. We have discovered three kinds of men and their relationship to the Mosaic Law: The spiritual man is delivered from the law (7:1-6); the natural man is doomed by the law (7:7-13); and the carnal man is defeated by the law (7:14-25). Now, as Paul begins the last section of chapter 7, he shifts the focus on himself as a believer in his present life, which also applies to present day believers and that they can identify with all that he says. If a person struggles to understand or is unable to relate their present life to what Paul experienced, then that person is not saved and is falling short of God’s grace. They need to go back to Chapter 3 and start all over and really let the words of God sink in, because we have all sinned and all fall short of the Glory of God. Romans 3:23 NLT For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard. Paul had a similar discussion with the church of Corinth when he told them about their behavior. They thought they were saved and living under Gods grace but instead they were living according to their flesh. 1 Corinthians 3:2-3 NLT I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren't ready for anything stronger. And you still aren't ready, 3 for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn't that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren't you living like people of the world?
As we conclude chapter seven please ask yourself: Am I living under law, or faith in Jesus Christ? Have I surrendered my life to Jesus? Are my beliefs backed up and plainly stated in God’s Holy word the Bible, or have I been taught to believe what man wants me to believe? Am I going to Heaven when I died? If the answer to this question is, I think so or I hope so, then your faith is in something other than Jesus and what He did at the Cross. A believer knows they are going to Heaven because Gods word gives you that assurance. The following link will take you to a lesson on Assurance of Heaven.
14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. Verse 14 is telling us the law is spiritual and we know it is from God. Therefore the law being from God, it is good for us, but it is because of our carnality we do not give it the attention that it deserves. Our flesh/inherited sin nature causes us to disregard it by means of our fleshly justification. In reality the problem lies within our being because we are all too human. We are sold under sin, meaning a slave to sin. The fleshly desire is to please our self; live for the pleasures of the world; focus on me, me, me; etc.. Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin.
15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. Paul is expressing that he doesn’t understand why he does the things he does. He wants to do right, because now that he is a believer he knows what is right and just in God’s eyes, but he still sins. He can’t understand why he is still sinning and when he sins, he is very displeased with himself, because he has let God down. One might say that Paul doesn’t have his faith in the Cross, but that is far from the truth. Anyone that is a true believer struggles with this on a daily basis, because of that inherited sin nature. A true believer goes through what I call a Jesus reality check daily sometimes it is hourly. Due to the Holy Ghost living within, conviction is placed upon the believer whether contemplating or actually carrying out the temptation. We have died to the sin nature because we now know what sin is, where it came from, how it is embedded and works within us, that it takes the indwelling of the Holy Ghost to unite with our spirit to combat it, and realize we will have it until the day we die. The sin nature is like that wild horse instinct that will from time to time rear up and bite you even though he has died to that way of life. It’s that wild know it all frisky nature that is just waiting for the opportunity to rear up within us and cause us to sin too.
16 If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. Paul has come to the conclusion that when he does what he doesn’t want to do and gets conviction by the Holy Spirit, the law is good and doing what it is suppose to do. That is, pointing out sin so that he can repent and amend his ways. He is absolutely correct and this is what should be going on in our lives today, and if not, we should be questioning our salvation?
17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. Paul is recognizing, that it isn’t he coming up with the temptations or sins that happen, but it is the sin nature from within. He know and has accepted the fact that on his own he is corrupted by the sin nature and nothing good dwells in him. He wants to do good but can’t by his own self will. He can’t find any means of living righteously under his own will power. If Paul the Apostle, the chosen one of Jesus, the Spirit led soldier of Jesus can’t find any other way to Heaven, but by placing his faith in Jesus, then why do we think we can do good deeds, go to church every Sunday, receive communion, pray ourselves or someone to Heaven, be baptized, etc. will gain us entry into God’s Paradise?
7:21 NKJV I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.
7:21 DRB I find then a law, that when I have a will to do good, evil is present with me.
7:21 KJV I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
7:21 NASB I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good.
7:21 NLT I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong.
I have listed four other bible versions because I want you to see how this verse can be misinterpreted. My spirit spoke to me when I read the KJV and the 1899 Douay-Rheims version. The NKJV says the same thing, but rearrange the last two phrases of the verse.
“Then a law”, is referring to not just the Ten Commandments, but to any law. When a law dictates how we are to act or do something good, many times the evil (sin nature) within us whispers to do the opposite. We may still do what is right, but the evil thought is there. It is that battle that goes on inside of us whenever there is a law involved. Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. In this verse Paul is exclaiming his joy in being Born Again and being regenerated into a new person. Having this regeneration God’s Scripture meaning has been revealed to him and he now understands that the life he was leading (law) and persecuting God’s children was wrong. He now knows that the law could not save him or anyone and that we are to live our life based on faith in what Jesus did for us and only that.
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. What law is this, “law in my member”? It is the sin nature, the law of desire, evil, corruptness. It is at war with the law of our mind. That is, the desire to do what is right and just that comes with a new birth. It is the will of our mind to do good and stay true to God’s Word so that we do not become captives of our old way of life that we were delivered from. It can happen to the most righteous Christian in such a subtle way they won’t even recognize what is happening. This is why a person must always be focused on Jesus.
24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. Paul asks the question, “who will deliver me”, and goes on to answer the question in the next verse. Jesus death and resurrection and placing your faith in the sacrifice He did for you is the only way you can be delivered from your body of death. You might have a history book knowledge of who Jesus is and what he did, and think you are serving Him, but allowing your flesh to dictate what you do through self-will, self-effort, and religious effort which places you outside of God’s Grace. In this state you will not serve the Law of God, but the Law of sin.
I pray that this chapter has touched your heart and has really got you to thinking how you are living your life. We must submit our lives to Jesus by denying our flesh, or spelled backwards without the “h”, is self, and place our faith in what Jesus did on the Cross. If we live by law, self, and religion then Jesus died in vain. Galatians 2:19-21 For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God.  20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.  21 I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain."
Hebrews 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
We need the covering of the atoning blood of Jesus to cover us. We need the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the Devine Nature in order to combat the sin nature. The Cross of Christ is the only way we can have victory.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: What does cataract surgery and being Born Again have in common?
Answer:  When a person has a Spiritual Birth God’s Word come to life for them. They read it and understand it in a whole new way. A veil is lifted from their mind with a new revelation in what life is all about. They can’t get enough of God’s Word and want to tell everyone about their revelation. When a person has cataract surgery their sight is restored and they can see much clearer. The colors are more vibrant and the haziness is lifted. They look at many different things and are in awe. They can’t stop telling others about their revelation.

Psalms 66:8-20 Oh, bless our God, you peoples! And make the voice of His praise to be heard,  9 Who keeps our soul among the living, And does not allow our feet to be moved.  10 For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined.  11 You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs.  12 You have caused men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water; But You brought us out to rich fulfillment.  13 I will go into Your house with burnt offerings; I will pay You my vows,  14 Which my lips have uttered And my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble.  15 I will offer You burnt sacrifices of fat animals, With the sweet aroma of rams; I will offer bulls with goats. 16 Come and hear, all you who fear God, And I will declare what He has done for my soul.  17 I cried to Him with my mouth, And He was extolled with my tongue.  18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear.  19 But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.  20 Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer, Nor His mercy from me! Father we praise you, we give you all the glory. We ask that you create a clean heart in us so that we can understand your words. Ignite our heart with a burning desire to ask, seek, and knock at your door for the truth. Put conviction upon us so that we will repent and ask you to come into our lives in a whole new way. We want you! We need you!  In Jesus name we pray!  Amen!
Romans 7:2-13 NKJV
Last week the discussion was on God and mans laws. How we can get caught up in living by law instead of faith in God. This week it is a continuation in the explanation of law, death, and life in a new way of faith, which Jesus brings to us.
Romans 7:2-13
2 For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.  3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. In these 2 verses Paul is using an analogy of a marriage bond to explain the mode of life a believer is to live, in respect to law and faith. The woman represents a believer and the husband represents the law. In verse two the people were bound to live by the law until Jesus death. With Jesus death and resurrection the law died, they were set free from the law and were to live by faith at that point in time. Does this mean the Ten Commandments are dead? Certainly not, and will be explained more in the coming verses.
In verse 3 if a person is married to Jesus, but still living by law, they are committing spiritual adultery. In other words a person will say they believe and understand what Jesus did for them, but still live a life of religious ritualistic law and good deeds thinking they can work their way to Heaven.  When a person puts their total trust and faith in Jesus, and denies mans religious doctrine, and starts living based on Bible doctrine, the law is put to death and a marriage takes place with a new husband, Jesus, and spiritual adultery is done away with. So what is your religious doctrine you live by? Is your actual lifestyle modeled after Jesus and how he lived? Example being; Who did Jesus pray to, God or mans idols? It was always to his Father, wasn’t it? He didn’t pray to manmade saints or his mother did he? Do you believe and live what is stated in God’s Word? If you attend a Bible Study do you use the Word of God or catechism of man? There are many people out there selling their books and publications to make a living. Some of it is good and backed up with accurate scripture interpretation, and then there is some putting out literature to make a buck. Be very cautious of this, because they will lead you astray. They are wolves in sheep clothing.
4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. Verse 4 is telling us that when Jesus died and was raised from the dead we are no longer to live a life based on law but on faith in God. Bearing fruit to God is putting our trust in Jesus, and with the infilling of the Holy Spirit that comes with being Born Again, to guide us through life and the keeping of the Ten Commandments, which was impossible with our own self efforts.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. Verse 5 is making reference to two time frames of life; one being of the Jews and Gentiles life before Jesus death and resurrection and our state of being before we have a Spiritual Birth. In these two states, life is lived according to the flesh which is referring to the sin nature. We are trying to live a good life, but our body members (eyes, ears, mind, etc.) give away to sin. Our flesh rises up and justifies our thoughts, words, and actions over law with the result being spiritual death.
6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.  With Jesus death and resurrection we are delivered from the old way of life meaning a believer has the capability of saying no to sin, with the help of the Holy Spirit. The sin nature does not die in a believer, but a whole new way of life becomes evident in the believer with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The believer is guided by God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit, and not mans spirit. With this new life a believer has the capability to recognize and turn from sin. Before this new life the persons flesh/sin nature would rise up and water and fertilize the temptation until the sin was carried out. A believer still lives according to God’s moral laws (Ten Commandments), but in a new spirit, new lifestyle, new nature because the old nature dies to sin.
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET." As stated previously law is not sin. Law, any law is to point out what is right or wrong. It is a guide and how we are to live. We have moral, social, religious, traffic, employment, etiquette, neighbor, etc. laws. All tell us what is right and wrong, but eternal life is not found in any law, none what so ever because we try to keep them by means of self righteousness. Only faith in Jesus death and resurrection for the atonement of our sins is salvation found.
8 But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead. This verse is simply stating that without law you have no idea that you are doing wrong. With the introduction of the Ten Commandments or any law for that matter the sin nature rears its ugly head and the battle begins between doing right and wrong. The law brings forth all kinds of evil things to mind like covetousness, lying, stealing, etc. that was not considered wrong before the institution of the laws. Take society today, many people are not aware of the Ten Commandments, therefore they don’t see anything wrong with their lifestyle of promiscuity that offends God. If you see a sign that states, “Keep Off The Grass”, what are you tempted to do? Walk on the grass, right? Cut a corner short in order to step on the grass. Our sin nature that is embedded within us defies laws of any kind. The sin nature brings out the evil in us because it is evil. The sin natures roots go all the way back to Satan in the Garden of Eden. We have a connection with Satan whether we like it or not and that is why the sin nature has dominion over us, but when we repent and give our heart to Jesus the Holy Spirit takes up residence within us and gives us the power to defeat sin so that it doesn’t have dominion over us any longer. Now that’s something to SHOUT ABOUT!  PRAISE GOD!
9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.  This verse is referring to Paul’s life before he was converted to Christianity which is the same for anyone that has a Spiritual Birth. Before this conversion a person doesn’t think much about the Commandments and gets very little conviction when doing wrong and in some cases people may not even think they are doing wrong. Why is that? Because they compare themselves to other people around them or they have no religious back ground. No matter who you are or how bad a person is, another person can be found that is worse in the eyes of the beholder. Are you thinking and wondering how a person in these times don’t know right from wrong, if you are, then answer this. How do people whether it be a mother or a doctor justify murder when an abortion is performed? When a person becomes a believer, sin is revived in a sense that with the Holy Spirit living inside of them the Commandments come alive and the effects of sin is magnified. When a believer sins, the conviction is so great, he knows he has offended God and the result is death due to his failure.
10 And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death.  11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. Here again Paul is telling us he thought he was living his life right and he would be going to Heaven by keeping the law, the Ten Commandments; but after his encounter with Jesus and his conversion to a life of grace by faith, the true purpose of the Law became so magnified that he realized he was deceived and was bound for Hell. The veil over his eyes was lifted so he could see clearly and this is so true for a new believe today.
12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.  13 Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.
The law is holy, just, and good. It is sin, our sin nature that deceives us. The commandments are to act as a mirror. They are to show us what is wrong and they do, but our sin nature jumps up and justifies what we are going to do and what we have done. The commandments have no power to assist the individual in fighting off temptation and the act of sin. There only purpose is to point out sin.
A person that is a believer, but has not had a Spiritual Birth gets very confused because they are trying with all their strength and might to live for God, but continually fails. They continually fall short in trying to keep the commandments. They can’t understand why they keep failing no matter how hard they try. The truth is no one can live for God in this manner, it’s not God’s prescribed order. The only way is by putting faith in what Jesus did on the Cross for us, then the Holy Spirit will take up residence within us to give us strength to fight the battle of sin. We need the Spirit of God within us united with our spirit in order to fight the evil spirit associated with the inherited sin nature.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: What does this phrase actually mean? He led captivity captive. Ephesians 4:8
Answer: To lead captivity captive, in scripture, is to subdue those who have held others in slavery, or captivity. In other words when a conqueror would triumph over his enemy he would lead his captives in a triumphal procession. He not only subdues his enemy, but he leads his captives in triumph. This was an early custom among nations.
This is what Jesus did when he descended into the lower depths and led those captives out. He defeated Satan by dying on the cross for our sins. Jesus was sinless, the unblemished lamb, the perfect sacrifice. This place was called paradise/Abrahams bosom. This place no longer exists, because Jesus led the captives out of there and to Heaven. I truly believe this is where people come up with the idea of Purgatory.
Ephesians 4:8-10 Therefore He says: "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVITY CAPTIVE, AND GAVE GIFTS TO MEN."  9 (Now this, "HE ASCENDED"—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?  10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)
Matthew 27:52-53 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.
Luke 16:19-26 "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.  20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,  21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.  22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.  23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.  24 "Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'  25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.  26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.'

Book of Romans
4-11-2012 Vol. 6 Part 21
Psalms 66:1-7 NKJV A Song of Praise and Worship. Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth! Sing out the honor of His name; Make His praise glorious. Say to God, "How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power Your enemies shall submit themselves to You. All the earth shall worship You And sing praises to You; They shall sing praises to Your name." Selah Come and see the works of God; He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men. He turned the sea into dry land; They went through the river on foot. There we will rejoice in Him. He rules by His power forever; His eyes observe the nations; Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves. Father we praise you, we give you all the glory. We thank you for all that you bless us and our families with. We ask that you bless us with rain this growing season so that we may have a bountiful crop. In Jesus name we pray!  Amen!
Romans 7:1 NKJV
In Chapter 7 Paul is analyzing the state of an unregenerate person who is under OT law and accepts its truth, yet is conscious of his or her inability to live a life that pleases God. He is describing a conflict between a person who struggles on his own or her own against the power of sin, demonstrating that we cannot attain justification or sanctification by our own attempts to resist sin and obey the law of God. The conflict of the Christian, on the other hand, is quite different: it is the conflict of a person in union with Christ and the Holy Spirit against the power of sin. In Chapter 8 Paul explains that the way to victory over sin is by the law of the Spirit of life in Jesus Christ that sets us free from the law of sin and death”, which we will get to in future lessons.
Before we get started with the verses, it will be beneficial if we understand some basics about God’s law. Here are some verses that describe the objectives of the law:
A.   The Law’s Credibility
1.        Psalms 19:11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.
2.      1 Timothy 1:8 But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully,
3.  Romans 7:12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.
B.    The Law’s Unity
1.       James 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
2.      Galatians 5:3 And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law.
3.      Matthew 5:19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
C.    The Law’s Penalty
1.       Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT CONTINUE IN ALL THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO DO THEM."
2.      Romans 4:15 because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.
3.      2 Corinthians 3:7-9 But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away,  8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious?  9 For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.
4.      Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
D.   The Law’s Possibility
1.       Leviticus 18:5 You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, which if a man does, he shall live by them: I am the LORD.
2.      Matthew 19:17 So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
3.      Romans 10:5  For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, "THE MAN WHO DOES THOSE THINGS SHALL LIVE BY THEM."
E.    The Law’s Impossibility
1.       Romans 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
2.      Acts 13:39 and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
3.      Galatians 3:11 But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."
4.      Galatians 2:16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
5.      Galatians 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.
F.     The Law’s Frailty
1.       Romans 8:3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
Romans 7:1
1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? Paul is speaking to his Jewish brothers and to us. He is stating the Law has dominion over a person that is attempting to live by the Law. Law meaning the Ten Commandments, Levitical laws, laws the Jewish people devised, manmade laws, and modern day religious laws. If a person isn’t living under Grace through faith in Jesus Christ and what He did at the Cross, then they are living by law which guarantees eternal failure. How are you living, by Faith or Law?
Did you know we even make up our own laws to live by? It’s true, and here is how it works. You have a daily routine and part of that routine is spending time reading the Bible or praying at a certain time and for a specified length of time. When something happens to your schedule and you miss this time or have to cut it short you become upset. Why did you get upset? Because you made a law out of your ritualistic routine. Breaking your routine is like breaking a Commandment. You get conviction of your failure to comply. This is exactly what law is suppose to do. I have heard of churches requiring their congregation to fast because of it being a certain time of the year or a special season coming up. This is living by law and not faith. If a person is living by faith the Holy Spirit will lay it on a believers heart to fast. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is perfectly OK to ask a congregation to pray about or for something, but to make it a custom every year and at the same time each year, it turns into law when God’s word doesn’t teach it.
The truth of the matter is that we all fall into the trap of the law. Many times we trust in our own laws and efforts instead of trusting in God. Our self sufficiency is our worst enemy which is embedded within our DNA when we came into this world. The Sin Nature! Many times we chide others for their actions while we do the same thing. We claim to be trusting in Jesus, but in reality we are leaning on our own flesh. It is all so subtle and religious it deceives many.
Satan loves it when we follow our fleshly laws. Why, because he knows there is no victory in living this way, this lifestyle will get progressively worse, and he will have you in his kingdom some day. He also loves it when we are religious, and even loves it more as we age and become very religious. He knows the longer we stay in the religious mode invariable we will not come out of it, because change is difficult. Our human nature is to oppose change, if it isn’t broke don’t fix it. Satan knows there is no salvation in religion and as long as a person stays bound by religion he owns them. When a person truly believes in Jesus, what he did at the Cross, and has a spiritual birth the battle begins. Satan recruits and sends forth his army of Christian law keepers (Non-believers meaning they know who Jesus is as a part of history.) to ridicule, berate, and tell the believer they have gone crazy. Invariably this lifestyle change in the Born Again Christian will cause division between the believer and his family, friends, and people he works with. Believe me this is very true. This has happened to me by family, friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers, etc. They tell me to stay under law of the religion I was raised in, but I can’t because I have the truth living within me and my faith is in Jesus Christ. I have given up on any religion for salvation, but not on Jesus, I love Jesus more now than I ever have. I belong to the one and only true church that Jesus started through the Acts of the Apostles, but attend a church while still here on earth to fellowship with other Born Again Christians in the task of spreading the Gospel. Jesus tells us as does the apostle John that when a person becomes a true believer there will be division.
Luke 12:51 Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division.
John 7:43 So there was a division among the people because of Him.
John 9:16 Therefore some of the Pharisees said, "This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them.
John 10:19 Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings.
It sounds like to me that the Ten Commandments that God gave us, causes us to sin more, doesn’t it? Why didn’t God give us the capability to obey the Commandments? If the commandments cause us to sin more, then how can they be called good? God knows everything and knew we would respond the wrong way, so why?
1.    The commandments are good they will lead us in the right direction to live our life, but it is our inherited sin nature that gets in the way. Our pride, not listening, not believing, do it my way, your wrong, my way is better, arrogance, greed, I’m better than you, this makes me happy, this pleases my flesh, the list goes on and on and on.
2.    The Ten Commandments are to draw us to God like Epsom salt draws infection out of a wound. Instead our flesh/sin nature being of the evil one sets up a detour and sends us down another path and we get lost in corruptness which leads to more corruptness and a spiral downward.
3.    The Ten Commandments purpose was to point out sin, show us our inadequacies, and they do if we heed them.
4.    The Ten Commandments is a guide for an ideal lifestyle.
5.    The Ten Commandments covers all the aspects of life economically, physically, socially, and spiritually.
6.    The Ten Commandments addresses our relationship with God (Exodus 20:3-11 "You shall have no other gods before Me.  4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.  5 "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,  6 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.  7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.  8 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.  9 "Six days you shall labor and do all your work,  10  but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you.  11  "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.) and our fellow humans (Exodus 20:12-17 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.  13 "You shall not murder.  14 "You shall not commit adultery.  15  "You shall not steal.  16 "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.  17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.").
So in conclusion of this verse it sounds like a person can be saved by obeying the Ten Commandments, but that is humanly impossible because of our flesh/sin nature. There was a remnant of OT patriarchs that recognized the purpose of the Ten Commandments, and if you study their life, you will see they placed their faith in God to see them through life.
This is why God sent his only begotten Son to atone for our sins so that we will have a way to salvation through Jesus Christ, which is the only way. This is what we celebrated last weekend, the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Knowing this and putting our faith is this not law or religion will get us to Heaven. As I have stated before, our life here on earth is a test of our free will, and what we chose to do with it, determines where we will spend eternity.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: What is fruit in a person’s life?
Answer: When a person puts their faith in Jesus and what transpired at the Cross. A new nature is born within the individual and the result is good fruit. Galatians 5:19-23 NLT W hen you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,  20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,  21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.  22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! 2 Corinthians 9:10; Ephesians 5:8-10; Philippians 1:9-11; Colossians 1:9-10; James 3:17-18.
This week’s Trivia: What does this phrase actually mean? He led captivity captive. Ephesians 4:8
