Psalms 71:9-16 Do not cast me off in the time of old age; Do not forsake me when my strength fails. For my enemies speak against me; And those who lie in wait for my life take counsel together, Saying, "God has forsaken him; Pursue and take him, for there is none to deliver him." O God, do not be far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! Let them be confounded and consumed Who are adversaries of my life; Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor Who seek my hurt. But I will hope continually, And will praise You yet more and more. My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And Your salvation all the day, For I do not know their limits. I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD; I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only. Father, in the name of Jesus I ask that your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Those of us who have ears, let us hear to understand the groanings in this lesson. We give you all the glory and praise. Amen!
Romans 8:19-27 NKJV
The last couple weeks we have studied what suffering can and should do for us as a Christians to bring us to God and strengthen our faith too. As an adopted child of God we are co-heirs with Jesus and everything that Jesus has is also for us as true believer. What about the part in verses 17 & 18 that talks about glory? Who’s glory? Is it God’s glory or our glory? It is both. When a person becomes a child of God through that spiritual birth, all of a sudden they have a revelation of what life is all about and they know what awaits them for eternity. They seek and do God’s will and not their own in order to please God. They give thanks to God for the gift of grace that God has bestowed upon them. Romans 2:7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; It is through our actions, language, and good works of spreading the Gospel that we glorify God. Just as we have great glory in our spiritual birth, God also has great glory when we accept him as our saviour. The Heavens shout for joy!
Today’s verses talk about creation (animate and inanimate) groanings, the curse placed upon creation, labor pains creation is enduring, hope, and deliverance from bondage.
Romans 8:19-27
19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
In some bibles the word creature is used when it should have been translated as creation. In order to understand what Paul is talking about, we need to define who or what creation is. We know one thing for sure the sons of God isn’t referring to Satan, his fallen angels, or God’s created angels, because they will not share in the “glorious liberty of the children of God”, and they aren’t subject to God’s curse of bondage. It isn’t talking about unbelievers because they have no “earnest expectation”. Lastly he isn’t talking about believers because they are mentioned in verses 19-sons of God, 21-children of God, and 23-we also who have the firstfruits. With the process of elimination Paul is talking about the rest of what God created. Animals, trees, plants, rivers, mountains, sky, space, etc.
With the fall of Adam, not only did we inherit the sin nature, but all that God created received a curse. Everything was changed and is not according to God’s prescribed order. Genesis 3:17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. So it is all of creation that awaits the coming of Jesus and his Saints to purge the earth of corruption and to rule and reign as our King for a thousand years (Millennial Reign). Revelation 20:1-6 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the bottomless pit and a heavy chain in his hand.  2 He seized the dragon—that old serpent, who is the devil, Satan—and bound him in chains for a thousand years.  3 The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while.  4 Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their forehead or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years.  5 This is the first resurrection. (The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years had ended.)  6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years. The redemptive work of Jesus (the second Adam), also pertains to the cosmos which is under the bondage of corruption. God’s creation longs for the way things were in the Garden of Eden before the fall.
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;  God’s creation, the cosmos, is subject to the fall of mankind. Creation cannot sin, but it bears death due to our sinful nature. Before the fall of man, life was eternal. There was no death for man, beast, plants, trees, etc. God who subjected the curse, also gives hope. That hope is in Jesus Christ when He returns to rule and reign at the Millennial Reign.
21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. This verse is simply stating that just as God’s children are delivered from the bondage of corruption, all of creation will be delivered too. We will at some point in time receive a glorified body and all of creation at some point in time will undergo a transformation. A new heaven and new earth will come into existence. 2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. Revelation 21:1-3 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone.  2 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.  3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, "Look, God's home is now among His people! He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them.
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Since creation groans, sighs, and labors with birth pangs because of the fall of man, and longs for God’s creation to be as it once was, is this something we can witness? I don’t know, but I will leave you with this thought to ponder. Could it be possible that earth quakes are labor pains? Could floods, tsunamis, tornadoes, hurricanes, forest fires caused by lightning strikes, mud slides, avalanches, etc. be earths way of trying to wash away the corruptness?
23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. Not only that”, should read, “not only they”, meaning creation and all that it encompasses. Paul is shifting his train of thought now to believers.
Here is some reasons a believer groans:
·         Because we have been given the Holy Spirit to guarantee our glory. A saved person realized soon after their Spiritual birth they don’t belong to this human world.
·         Because we look forward to our adoption. Even though a person is saved and has the assurance of going to Heaven, they long for that day to come so they can be with their Saviour. 2 Corinthians 5:2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven,
·         Because we anticipate the redemption of the body. In some situations people with bodies that are wearing out long for the promised glorified body. Philippians 3:20-21 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,  21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
·         Because of presence of sin in the world. A believer will groan reading or listening to the news and all the immoral things that are happening in our society; Romans 1:29-32 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,  30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,  31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;  32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
·         Because the power of sin still present within us. A believer will groan because of the sin in our bodies; Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
·         Because of the practice of sin by those around us. A believer groans because of the effect of others sin, meaning, governmental laws that are passed due to people not being accountable for their immoral actions.
Even though a saved person has an appetizer of God’s grace with the Holy Spirit living within them, they long for the seven course meal and all its trimmings.
What about unbeliever, do they groan. Yes they do, but their groanings are of the world. They groan because of wanting more worldly treasures; not having money to buy fancy clothes, jewelry, electronics, etc. They groan because they want something better than what they have.
24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. Paul is telling us in these two verses that a saved person realizes after their Spiritual Birth there is much more to come and what a believer is experiencing is only a fraction of what God has reserved for us in Heaven. Our hope is to be in what we cannot see, touch, taste, or experience here on earth. If one is still hoping for things of this world, then they need to question their salvation. If our faith is where it is suppose to be, in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross, then a true believe eagerly waits for their rewards with perseverance. 2 Corinthians 4:18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. Matthew 25:46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. With the Holy Spirit living within our body as a believer, the Holy Spirit knows what we need in life a whole lot more than what our human mind thinks we need. As human beings we fall way short in our ability to provide what we need or even to ask for in the spiritual realm of things. Our human flesh constantly rears up and gets in the way. We may not even be capable of speaking in a fashion that is understandable to God. This is where the Holy Spirit jumps in and assists us. The Holy Spirit puts into words what we can’t express to God. Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!" Ephesians 2:18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. God searches our hearts and the Holy Spirit makes intercession for the believer that is according to God’s will. The Holy Spirit will not make intercession for us pertaining to things that are not God’s will. As believers we are to be living for God and his kingdom, not our wants and desires of worldly things. The Holy Spirit is there to help keep us on the right path.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: What does an unsaved person and a stubborn donkey have in common?
Answer: When a donkey decides he doesn’t want to go where you are leading him, he just sits down and refuses to move. You can pull, push, prod, coax, etc., but he won’t budge.  I view the Pharisee’s and Sadducee’s the same as a donkey. They were so full of their beliefs they would sit down, fold their arms, and refused to believe anything Jesus and the Apostles would say. Today’s non-believers are the same way, they have their beliefs and refuse to be open minded and believe in the unseen.

Psalms 71:1-8 In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be put to shame. Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; Incline Your ear to me, and save me. Be my strong refuge, To which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, For You are my rock and my fortress. Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. For You are my hope, O Lord GOD; You are my trust from my youth. By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother's womb. My praise shall be continually of You. I have become as a wonder to many, But You are my strong refuge. Let my mouth be filled with Your praise And with Your glory all the day. Father I come before you in the name of Jesus. I pray for your Spirit to show all that read your messages the truth, and what they must do to have assurance of Heaven when they pass from earth. We give you all the glory and praise. Amen!
Romans 8:17-18 NKJV
The last couple weeks I have touched on repentance in conjunction with the lessons. I have said some things that could really cut a person to the bone in their beliefs, but I say them out of love because I want people to think for themselves about what they have been taught. I want people to know the truth. I want to see everyone in Heaven. I want people to place their faith in Jesus and understand why He died on the cross for us.
Since this chapter teaches so much about the power of the Holy Spirit and how it gives an individual the power to deal with our sin nature after we are Born Again, I’m going to share how the Holy Spirit dealt with me along with repentance. One thing I have come to learn is the main duties of the Holy Spirit is conviction. See the Holy Spirit is around us before being saved, but after our Spiritual Birth He takes up residence within and that is when God’s Commandments/Bible is written on our hearts in BIG BOLD LETTERS. You have seen on TV where the Holy Spirit (God’s Truth; His Laws; His Word being the Bible) is sitting on one shoulder and the devil (self; sin nature; flesh) is sitting on the other shoulder of an individual and both are whispering in the ears of the person, right? When a person starts reading the Bible and seeking the truth a battle begins inside the human mind. This battle that went on inside my mind was horrendous. What I had been taught growing up at home said one thing, yet what I read in the Bible said another. I’m not talking about my parent, because if it wasn’t for my parents, their lifestyle, and influence on my life I may not have picked up the Bible in search of what was contained within the front and back covers. What I’m talking about when I refer to growing up at home was what I was taught by the religion we practiced. The religion knows who Jesus is, what he did, and that He is our Saviour, but also teaches so much manmade doctrine, rules, rituals, customs, etc. that a young person is lead to believe through their religious instruction, they will go to Heaven if they practice the doctrine of the denomination. A young person then puts their salvation in a religion and that is how they start living and it carries on into their adult life. They have a family and what the parents believe is taught to their children with each passing generation. Now when I hear someone say they are religious or they belong to this religion or that religion, I immediately think of the Pharisee’s and Sadducee’s, because that is where they placed their faith in going to Heaven (man’s laws and self works). So you see, if your faith is not in Jesus Christ and what transpired on the Cross at Calvary, then you are just like the Pharisee’s and Sadducee’s that had minds of enmity against Jesus. Here is a key point to remember that will lead you in the right direction pertaining to God, and that is if any religion or person, leads you and teaches from anything other than the Bible or tells you you don’t need to read the Bible, a red flag should go up. If a red flag goes up then you really need to verify the accuracy of what that person or religion is teaching with God’s Word, the Bible. Another red flag is if the church doctrine is continually changing, especially if the religion claims it is the one and only true church.
I remember October, November, and December of 2007 as if it was yesterday. Why is it we have vivid memories of past events in our lives? It is because something has happened in a person’s life that had a huge impact and changed their lifestyle, habits, thoughts, etc. As I started reading the New Testament some verses stood out in bold 3D letters. Sometimes I would blink my eyes but it wouldn’t go away. I knew God was trying to tell me something. As I continued to read and study I started searching for what I placed my faith in, that being what I was taught in CCD. As I researched each thing a battle would go on in inside of me. My flesh saying it was true, but the Bible saying it was false because it didn’t confirm my beliefs. Such as partaking of communion would cleanse you of venial sins, absolution of mortal sins by man, practicing of the sacraments would get you to heaven, praying for a deceased persons would get them from purgatory to heaven, if you didn’t live a good enough life (which I viewed my life as good enough) on earth you would go to purgatory and people would pray you to heaven, if an infant is baptized they will go to heaven, and the list goes on and on. With each and every belief I was taught and believed in for 57 years I could not confirm it in the Bible. I wept many times because my religious beliefs were not confirmed in the Bible and with each one a battle would rise up inside of me.
This battle that was going on inside my head was the convicting power of the Holy Spirit. I could have denied what the Holy Spirit was telling me and continued to live according to what I was taught, but here is one thing I was taught as a child and I believed this with all my heart, that we are to live by what God’s Word the Bible says. This is what hurt so much because I thought I was living a life based of Bible belief. This belief is what turned me away from mans laws, and I thank God and whoever instilled that belief in me. This is why I keep preaching so much on mans laws and reading and knowing what the Bible says so you will have discernment concerning false doctrine. So I leave you with this, if you are questioning anything with these messages about what you believe in, then do the research to verify what I’m saying. Is it true based on scripture or what you have been taught to believe. If you question anything, it is because the Holy Spirit is convicting you of the truth. Conviction is the Holy Spirits job, you have to make the correct decision. Just remember, it is your eternal life that is at hand here. God’s Word is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, it never changes. Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Romans 8:
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Verse 17 was in last week’s lesson also, but verse 18 talks about suffering and glory too. Suffering and glory go hand in hand and there is much to be said about the two. I have many verses pertaining to today’s lesson. Before I get started I want to point out something about being heirs of God that I didn’t point our very well last week, that being, “joint heirs with Christ”. Do you understand what that states? If a person is just an heir they only receive part of the inheritance. For instance, heir of an estate, and if 4 heirs, each will receive ¼ of the estate. Joint heir is totally different because all parties share in the total inheritance. So when a person becomes a Born Again Saint they inherit everything God has to offer and they share that inheritance with Jesus, not just a piece of the pie, but the whole pie. WOW, THAT’S SOMETHING TO SHOUT ABOUT!
Suffering is throughout the Bible and the significance it plays in unsaved and saved individuals lives is a revelation I have found in studying the word. There are many terms used in God’s Word that describe suffering. Affliction, anguish, distress, grief, misery, pain, tribulation, chastisement, etc. Various metaphors such as refining fire (Isaiah 48:10 Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.), overflowing waters (Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.), birth pangs (John 16:20-22 Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.  21 A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.  22 Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.; Romans 8:18-22) also reflect suffering. Some people come to Jesus by means of reading and studying  God’s Word, while others are inflicted by a form of suffering and the individual cries out to God, and as a result something changes within them and they give their life to Jesus and accept Him as their Saviour. Some examples of these sufferings involve, fear of dying from cancer, drug addiction, an accident of some type, the suffering of a disease, divorce, job stress, and many more.
C. S. Lewis explains suffering this way: “Now God, who has made us, knows what we are and that our happiness lies in Him. Yet we will not seek it in Him as long as He leaves us any other resort where it can even plausibly be looked for. While what we call ‘our own life’ remains agreeable, we will not surrender it to Him. What then can God do in our interest but make ‘our own life’ less agreeable to us, and take away the plausible sources of false happiness.”
C. S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain, (New York: MacMillan, 1062), 93.
The pathway to glory comes through suffering. Through suffering we come closer to God, but in most cases when things are going well in people’s lives they forget about God. They only seek God during hard times. Does each suffering, trials, and tribulation a person has, draw them closer to God over time? As an unsaved person, probably not, because after the suffering is over they revert back to their normal way of life until the next tribulation arises. Their dependence is on themselves and not God. As a saved person, yes each tribulation/suffering draws them closer to God because their faith is in God and they praise and thank Him for their deliverance. They put their life in God’s hands and with each deliverance from suffering it builds their faith knowing God is in control. Through pain and suffering, glory and beauty are produced.
The following verses tell us that Jesus, the Apostles, and followers of Jesus endured many types of pain, suffering, and persecutions which in turn Glorifies our Father in Heaven. As a believer being a servant of God you will be rewarded, but the greatest reward we partake in here on earth is walking with God. It is that little taste of Heaven knowing God has all things in control.
As a true believer you will share in the pain and suffering Jesus endured for us. Philippians 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
As a believer we share in the sufferings of Jesus, resulting in a Christ-like love and compassion for other people and sharing the message of the Cross. 2 Corinthians 1:5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.
As a true believer one is tested to see how genuine their faith is. Faith is so important to God, gold is use as a comparison, but faith is much more precious. 1 Peter 1:6-7  In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,  7  that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
God rebukes and allows inflictions in the lives of his children to bring correction in wrong doing. He does this out of love like a mother and father disciplines their children. Hebrews 12:5-6 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "MY SON, DO NOT DESPISE THE CHASTENING OF THE LORD, NOR BE DISCOURAGED WHEN YOU ARE REBUKED BY HIM;  6 FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES."
The next two verses Paul is stating that he thought he was going to die. Of what we do not know except it was due to preaching the Gospel. Even with death close at hand his faith was in God and not himself. 2 Corinthians 1:8-9 For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life.  9 Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead,
James is telling us to take various trials in stride and rejoice instead of whining, complaining, and seeking pity from others. A child of God views trials as something that produces patience James 1:2-3 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
Paul tells his newly formed churches they will suffer but with faith in Jesus they will be delivered. 2 Timothy 3:11-12 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.  12  Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
Here is a list of other scripture involving trials and tribulations that Paul describes. 2 Timothy 3:12 Philippians 1:12-14; 2 Corinthians 4:6-10; 2 Thessalonians 1:4-5; 1 Thessalonians 2:1-4
What do you learn when afflicted with pain and suffering? Do you think God is trying to tell you something when you have tribulations? Is God trying to tell you to repent of something you have done? Is He trying to get your attention so you will turn to Him and not man’s idolatry? Is He testing your faith? Psalms 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes. Psalms 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word. Just being enlighten by these verses, we need to seek God’s face for an answer to why we have trials and tribulations. It might just be He isn’t please with what you are doing or what you have placed your faith in and he is trying to get you to come to Him. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Not Self, Not Religion, Not Works, Not Laws, and Not Rituals will get a person to Heaven.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: As the deer pants for the water brooks. What is this phrase all about?
Answer: Psalm 49 opens with this verse. Psalms 42:1, 2 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
These two verses pertain to the oppressed Israelites in chapter one of Exodus, to David longing for deliverance from his enemies, and also to us as a nonbeliever and believer. Deep down inside, the spirit of a nonbeliever, longs for something, but the individual doesn’t know what. Not being able to sort things out they turn to the world, materialistic things, things that they think please the flesh, religion, and self reliance. That longing goes on till death (Hell) unless they find Jesus and realize what the finished work of the Cross really means and they then put their trust and faith where it belongs.
As a saved true believer, they pant for deliverance from this world that they don’t belong to. They long to be with Jesus Christ in Heaven where our Father is.

5-16-2012 Vol. 6 Part 26 Book of Romans (Romans 8:12-17)

Psalms 69:29-36 But I am poor and sorrowful; Let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high. I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify Him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bull, Which has horns and hooves. The humble shall see this and be glad; And you who seek God, your hearts shall live. For the LORD hears the poor, And does not despise His prisoners. Let heaven and earth praise Him, The seas and everything that moves in them. For God will save Zion And build the cities of Judah, That they may dwell there and possess it. Also, the descendants of His servants shall inherit it, And those who love His name shall dwell in it. Father I come before you in the name of Jesus. I pray for true repentance in all, that hearts will be cleansed so bodies will become temples for Your Spirit to take up residence in all that don’t know you like they should. We give you all the glory and praise. Amen!
Romans 8:12-17 NKJV
Last week I closed with some examples of what I had to choose, to have a Spiritual birth. These were heart wrenching examples of repentance for me after 57 years of believing in a religion for my salvation. I used these examples because I realized they were mans laws and religious doctrine that the Word of God doesn’t support. Those and many more of any religion are not supported in the Bible. They are a form of idolatry to God because people put their faith and belief in things of man, the world, and themselves for salvation. Repentance goes far beyond lying, stealing, fornication, gossip, covetousness, adultery, etc. True repentance is, the desire in your heart of turning from the sinful actions and thoughts, mans point of view, what you believe in, and rejecting non-scriptural religious doctrine. It’s being willing to repent and give it all to God, meaning forsaking all you know and willing to take on a mindset of a newborn babe, and allowing God to reprogram your heart and mind. This is why it is so important to pick up your Bible and start searching for the way, truth, and life. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. We have to make an effort to seek, ask, and knock on Jesus door for salvation. Luke 11:9 "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. If we aren’t truly interested in seeking our eternal life, God knows this because He is omniscient (all knowing), and he will not give you the gift of grace, because He doesn’t want anyone in His kingdom that will not give it all to Him.
My God is a jealous God, this is stated in the Commandments, is your god/God jealous? He wants all of our attention, devotion, obedience, love, prayer request, etc. Without paraphrasing the first commandment like, “Have no strange gods before thee”, here is what the first and second commandment states in its entirety. Exodus 20:3-6 "You shall have no other gods before Me.  4 "You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;  5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, (This goes right along with what we studied last week in Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity (hate) against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.) 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
This is what the last couple months of lessons has been all about, manmade doctrine, sin nature, and self. John the Baptist preached repentance, Jesus preached repentance, and the apostles preached repentance.
Matthew 3:1-2 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,  2 and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!"
Mark 1:14-15 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,  15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."
Acts 8:20-23 But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money!  21 You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God.  22 Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.  23 For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity."
Paul is making this statement to the men of Athens in Acts 17:22. Acts 17:29-31 Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man's devising.  30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,  31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."
How can we expect God to come into our lives if we aren’t willing to give it all up and start new. After all a person has been living under sin since the day they were born and repentance is being willing to start a new life of Godliness. I have had people ask me if I experienced the presence of God the first time I prayed and asked Jesus into my life, and my answer was and is no. I prayed many times before I could actually testify that I had the assurance of the Holy Spirit living inside me and the assurance of going to Heaven when I die. I had to search deep within my spirit and sort out all that was not verified in God’s Word and reject it. God could then see into my heart and know that I was willing to give it all to Him. Then He sent His Spirit, the Holy Spirit, to take up residence within me so that I would have the power of the Holy Spirit to say no to sin and the sanctification part began. It is only with the power of the Holy Spirit living within a person that the sanctification process will start and continue till the day we die because our soul and spirit are housed within a sinful corrupted body (the sin nature). Every human being born on planet earth since Adam and Eve were/are born with this sin nature, except Jesus of course. This is all made possible by believing in what Jesus did on the Cross and only this.
I hope this has helped everyone to understand what repentance is all about and what is necessary for one to do. Often times people don’t realize the depth of repentance and what is involved.
Now for this weeks scripture:
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. Paul starts out verse 12 with brethren, which indicates he is addressing fellow believers. He is telling his listeners and us that if we have a spiritual birth, then we are in debt to Jesus for dying on the Cross for us. Jesus died for us as the unblemished lamb when it should have been us dying on the Cross. We owe Jesus our life and should be living for Him and not of our works if we claim to be true believers. There is nothing we can do on our own to please God. We have to put our faith in the finished work of the Cross. Cain tried to please God by offering up fruit of his own hands and God didn’t like it. Abel on the other hand offered up a first born lamb that God had blessed him with in the form of a sacrifice and thanks. Abel trusted God to provide for him, where as Cain depended on himself for the things he needed in life. Genesis 4:2-4 Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.  3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD.  4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering,
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Here again it is referring to living according to the flesh. If we live according to our works/flesh then we have no eternal life. A person living this way will not make it to Heaven, eternity will be spent in Hell. If the Holy Spirit be in you then you have the power of the Holy Spirit to put the deeds of the body/flesh to death and live a life for God. You will be able to sense the joy of Gods kingdom here on earth. You will have peace knowing Jesus is in control. This doesn’t mean that a true believer won’t experience trials and tribulation, but when those times come along you will have peace knowing Jesus is in control and you will put your faith and trust in Him and accept the outcome no matter what it might be. Galatians 5:24; Romans 13:14; John 16:13
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. This verse is referring to anyone that has been Born Again and continues to put their faith in God by believing in Jesus death, burial, and resurrection they are considered sons/daughters of God. When a person becomes a true believer they are adopted into God’s family. If you haven’t had a Spiritual Birth then you aren’t part of God’s family. He knows you, and he loves you because he created you, but if you are living according to the flesh, then He hates your lifestyle and you aren’t part of his family. It is through the leading of the Holy Spirit that we are sanctified. This sanctification is an ongoing process till the day we die. The Holy Spirit will convict a person of wrong doing which in turn causes the true believe to repent. Sometimes this can be a long process because our flesh doesn’t want to give up the sin. It could take years to have dominion over the sin, but with perseverance, standing firm in the faith, putting on Gods armor daily, and giving it to Jesus, victory will be obtained. Some of our sinful ways go away immediately while others, a war wages inside of us against the flesh. Even Paul had to battle his flesh. Romans 7:15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. Psalm 25:4, 5; Psalm 143:10
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." Paul is explaining here that a true believer is adopted by Father God, and when this happens they are set free from the bondage of the Mosaic Laws, meaning a believer puts their faith in the power of the finished work of the Cross. They no longer have the fear of trying to keep all the laws in order to enter into Gods kingdom. Before becoming a true believer the fear of keeping all the laws through our own effort was present, but when a person puts their faith in Jesus that fear is gone. It is gone because Jesus kept each and every law for us. He was without sin. He was the unblemished sacrificial lamb. He is the only person and will be the only person to walk the face of this earth that was sinless. Hebrews 2:14, 15; 1 John 4:18; Galatians 4:6
Some people claim Mary was sinless, which is false. She was a virgin meaning she had never known any man. If Mary was sinless then her parents would have had to be sinless, as well as all previous generation clear back to Adam and Eve because of the inherited sin nature from Adam and Eve. If this was the case then there is no such thing as the sin nature and everyone is sinless and never does anything evil, if so, then Jesus death for sin was in vain. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, If this was true then God’s word contradicts itself, and the Bible is a lie. If a person wants to believe Mary was sinless, it is their choice, but they are being deceived by wolves in sheep’s clothing.
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Verses 16 and 17 are practically saying the same thing as the previous verses. After a Spiritual Birth the Holy Spirit is within us and in a sense unites with our spirit and bears or reveals many things to us that we have done and do that are wrong. The Holy Spirit becomes our sin alarm even when we contemplate doing something wrong. This is such a change in a new believer from their previous life it is one of those pieces of evidence of a Spiritual Birth. We can boldly proclaim we are a child of God.
Being a child of God then we become heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus. All that is given to Jesus is also given to us. This isn’t just all good things because a true believer suffers just as Jesus did when he walked the earth, and continues to do so. What I’m getting at is Jesus wept for mankind, He had compassion for mankind, He loves mankind, etc. He is still doing this today, do you know why? It is because his fellow Jewish brothers the Pharisees, Sadducees, Gentiles, and the people of today would not and do not believe in Him, His teaching, His miracles, etc. This is so very true today, people still will not believe in Him. They know Him and who He is, but don’t truly believe. They still place their faith in the teachings of their religion. Even when they searching the Bible for the truth and find it, they still don’t believe what the Word of God states. If Jesus was in human form today, stood before them, and told them their religious doctrine is false, they would not believe Him. Now don’t get me wrong, because some of the things certain denominations practice are Biblical and correct. This breaks my heart seeing people that won’t believe in what the Bible teaches, because they are lost in the valley of darkness and can’t find their way out. They are bound for Hell unless they somehow come to their senses and repent and give it all to God Almighty.
Just as we suffer with Jesus, we also have the assurance of a glorified body like Jesus at some point in time. As a believer we are heirs and partake of these rewards here on earth when we become a true believer; Blessed; Chosen; Predestined; Adopted; Accepted; Redeemed; Forgiven; Enlightened; Inheritance; Sealed; Assured. Ephesians 1:1-14
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: What does the Bible and a horse farrier have in common?
Answer: The one common link is a foundation. A horse farrier will take a piece of steel and start shaping it to the hoof of the horse. He keeps measuring the hoof, heating the steel red hot, pounding it into shape, and when he gets it just right he starts the final process of heating and dipping it in water to temper the steel. The farrier knows he has to put a good shoe on a horse to give it a solid foundation.
God does this with a true believer by instilling in us to read and studying His Holy Word, the Bible. He start shaping us from the inside out by giving us a new heart and writing His laws in it. He starts pounding on us to get rid of our old ways and reveals the truth to us. He heats us up with trials and then tempers us as a result of these trials and tribulations. All of this gives us a solid foundation to stand fast as his loyal servant. Without this we will wander back to our old ways.

5-9-2012 Vol. 6 Part 25 Book of Romans (Romans 8:5-11)

Note: To download/print the document, click on the title below.

Psalms 69:14-28 Deliver me out of the mire, And let me not sink; Let me be delivered from those who hate me, And out of the deep waters. Let not the floodwater overflow me, Nor let the deep swallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth on me. Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; Turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies. And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in trouble; Hear me speedily. Draw near to my soul, and redeem it; Deliver me because of my enemies. You know my reproach, my shame, and my dishonor; My adversaries are all before You. Reproach has broken my heart, And I am full of heaviness; I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none. They also gave me gall for my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. Let their table become a snare before them, And their well-being a trap. Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see; And make their loins shake continually. Pour out Your indignation upon them, And let Your wrathful anger take hold of them. Let their dwelling place be desolate; Let no one live in their tents. For they persecute the ones You have struck, And talk of the grief of those You have wounded. Add iniquity to their iniquity, And let them not come into Your righteousness. Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, And not be written with the righteous. Father I come before you in the name of Jesus. I ask that you open our ears to hear your word, and the truth of your words to pierce our hearts. I pray that what you have inspired me to write is such that it can be understood by all. We give you all the glory and praise. Amen!
Romans 8:5-11 NKJV
The verses for this lesson do a lot of repeating. Have you notice how often Paul repeats himself? Why does he do that? I think there are a few reasons. As human beings we all learn things in different ways. Some people are visual so Paul paints us a picture with one verse, another verse may be about culture, and yet another maybe about his experience. Some of us learn by reading and visualizing, some learn by repetition, some learn by just reading, some learn by reading or listening and taking notes and some may need to read something three or four times. A good teacher or factory trainer realizes this and tries to cover all types. I think Paul is a great teacher and this is what Paul is doing, but in reality, is he or the Holy Spirit doing the teaching? What do you think? Pictures are being painted by Paul with analogies, life experiences, and past experiences. He not only draws on his life and his current culture, but also refers back to OT laws.
Paul is saying some pretty strong things in the past chapters along with this chapter. What we need to do is really examine our life, ask ourselves what we place our faith in, what we are believing in, and if that is where we want to be when we die. Even though Paul is addressing the Romans of his time, it very much applies to current times and the way we live. Don’t just read the Bible or go to a Bible Study and think of it as a history lesson, because if you do, you are missing the whole purpose of God’s Law, the Bible. Remember what law is suppose to do? Point you toward God for repentance and salvation. Bible Study isn’t something to do once a week as a social thing or thinking by going to a Bible Study you have done you religious duty of works. Religion never has and never will save anyone. Salvation only comes through faith in Jesus and what He did for us on the Cross at Calvary.
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. Verse 5 has been discussed in previous lessons and it is simply stating that a person that has not repented and asked Jesus into their life they are living to please themselves by means of the world, and what the world has to offer. They place their faith in themselves to provide for themselves and their loved ones. They believe what they want to believe, what man teaches, what their religion teaches, and disregard anything that goes against their rationalizing of what life is to be like. They pick and choose Bible scripture to believe in and twist the other facts of God’s Word so they can live a life they want to live. They justify their actions with other human beings instead of God’s Words. Basically in a nutshell they are trying to live a good life based on their own humanistic being, meaning works, good deeds, and law.
We can use homosexuality as an example. Now don’t get me wrong, we are to practice the love of benevolence with these people, meaning we are to love the individual, but hate the sin. The media is full of headlines now days on this topic. There are all kinds of justification like I was born with the wrong genes, I only had one parent, people of the opposite sex just can’t relate to me, it feels good so it must be ok, I was abused, etc. But God’s Word states it clear, it is not His prescribed order and those living this type of lifestyle are living according to their flesh and not according to the Spirit of God. God’s Word states He has given them up, He has washed His hands of them, they are doomed, unless they repent. Romans 1:26-27 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.  27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
But anyone living according to the Spirit seeks the things of God. The people Paul is referring to are saved individuals. They live for God. God is first and foremost on their minds 24/7. They have a desire to share the Gospel in hopes of others repenting and asking Jesus to come into their life so they can experience God’s Grace and Love. They are in prayer the majority of the day. They involve Jesus in their life situations and decisions. The materialistic things of their pre-spiritual birth are of no importance any more. They are living and walking a life to please God.
From God’s view point there are only two kinds of people in the world; those living according to the flesh and those living according to the Spirit. Open your bible concordance and you will find a large list under “flesh”. Galatians 5:25  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Here again, Paul is telling us that if we are not Born Again, we will live a life of pleasing self. The sin nature has control of our life and we are living for another jesus, Satan. The result is death meaning eternal Hell. 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.  17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (Proverbs 14:23; 16:24; Matthew 7:13,14; Romans 6:21)
If we are spiritually minded, we are saved, and living a life of peace. Knowing Jesus is in control and He will provide all that we need. We don’t have to be worried about worldly things, because we give it all to Him to take care of. The Holy Spirit is living within us and we have placed our faith in the Cross of Christ. We have assurance of going to Heaven when we die. All things are possible through God. Matthew 19:26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Verses for the Spiritually minded; Psalm 4:8; John 14:27; 17:3; 10:10; 1 John 1:2)
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. Paul is making a very strong statement here when he uses the word enmity. Enmity means hostile; enemy; the opposite of friendship; ill will; hatred; unfriendly dispositions; malevolence; deep-rooted hatred. These descriptions are not descriptions of love. As human beings we are born with the corrupted sin nature that comes from Satan. This nature is not subject to God’s Law. The sin nature defies God’s Law because it is not from God. Baptism will not wash away this inherited sin nature, often times referred to as “original sin”. Many believe baptism will wash a person clean and they will go to Heaven because they are baptized. The only thing that will wash us clean is the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on the Cross. This is only accomplished through repentance. There is no other way than believing in the Cross of Christ.
8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. If the mind is enmity against God then so is the flesh. If a person is not saved, they are enemies of God, and cannot please God. What a dreadful thought this is. Many people living according to their standards, their lifestyle justification, they pick and choose what to believe in the Bible or twist the meaning of other verses, are actually enemies of God. Paul is making a very strong statement of conviction here, isn’t he?
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. In sentence one of this verse, Paul is addressing the Born Again believers in the first phrase, but in the second phrase he is raising a question about some being saved. We know for fact that the Jewish people of that time struggled with what Jesus, Paul, and the other apostles said. They were stuck on their beliefs, the laws, tradition, religious doctrine and rituals. Here we are over 2,000 years later, and still many are stuck on the same things. Oh how our human minds struggle with change and believing.
Paul ends this verse with a statement that doesn’t need interpretation by simply stating that if a person doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ living within, then they are not part of God’s family.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. As discussed in earlier lessons our body is dead to sin if we have the Holy Spirit living within. It is only through repentance (turning from sin, denying what we believe in, forsaking non-scriptural religious doctrine, etc.), confessing our sins to Jesus, and asking forgiveness, a Spiritual Birth is possible. It is putting our faith in Jesus and the works of the Cross that enables the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. This is the Spirit of life Paul is talking about. This is the life of righteousness we will live, being under the umbrella of Jesus shed blood. We won’t be, and will never be perfect, but by putting our faith in the Cross of Christ, this life is made possible by God Almighty’s prescribed order. Galatians 2:19-21 For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God.  20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.  21 I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain."
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. This verse is simply stating that the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) that raised Jesus from the dead dwells within a Born Again person. He, meaning God, will give life (Eternal life) to a Born Again believer’s mortal body by means of His (God) Spirit that will come and live within the person that has had a Spiritual Birth. When a person becomes a true believer in what transpired at the Cross, our bodies become a temple for the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) to take up residence within. 1 Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? When the Spirit of God takes up residence within an individual, we then are able to live a victorious life. Through this Spirit we have the same power within us that raised Jesus from the dead. If we have an unwavering faith in what Jesus did on the Cross at Calvary for us, then we have available to us the power that was granted to the Apostles. Mark 16:15-18 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.  17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;  18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."  We must believe and have faith. We can’t be like Peter and take our eyes off Jesus. Matthew 14:29-30 So He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30  But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!"
You know when a person gives their heart to Jesus there is a peaceful calm that comes over the individual. It was that way for me and other believers have told me the same thing. You just have a sensation that Jesus is present in a whole new way and now you have a relationship with Him and not just know Him as a history character. You know He is in control and will provide for you what you need.
What I’m about to tell you, please don’t take it the wrong way. As I have said in the past I’m not trying to get anyone to come out of their religion. Just remember a religion will not save a person. I just want people to put their faith in Jesus for salvation. My conversion to becoming a Christian involved this after searching the Bible for what I was taught. I came to the conclusion that I had to deny anything and everything I was taught that wasn’t written in God’s Word and here is a partial list.
·         Praying to manmade saints and Mary, because Jesus is our intercessor. 1 Timothy 2:5  For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
·         Confessing sins to man, because God can only forgive sin. Mark 2:7 "Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
·         Denying sacraments will get me to Heaven, because only believing and faith in Jesus will accomplish this.  Acts 26:18 to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me (Jesus).'
·         Denying the Catholic religion would get me to Heaven, because only believing and faith in Jesus will accomplish this. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
·         Call no man father, because I have only one Father. Matthew 23:9 Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.
So I ask you what religion are you practicing; religion of the flesh or religion of the Spirit?
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: What is the significance of the folded napkin and the placement of it in the tomb where Jesus was laid?
Answer:  I received an email over a week ago and it went on to say that a Jewish custom at the dinner table by the master of the house is this; If the master folded the napkin and placed it neatly by his plate he wasn’t done eating and would return to finish. If the master wadded up the napkin and tossed it on his plate he was done and the servant could clear the table.
The napkin around Jesus head in the tomb was folded and lying in a separate place, so the email went on to say it isn’t finish and Jesus is coming back, which he is, and what a glorious day that will be.
In researching this email the truth or fiction websites states this is false, but a friend of mine has an old Jewish friend and he confirmed that yes indeed it is a Jewish custom as stated above.
Commentaries explain the folded napkin lying separate from the other wrapping signified that Jesus body was not stolen and he was resurrected. If his body was stolen why would the thieves take the time to remove all the wrapping.
So you can believe what you want. I will take both. Thanks Dorothy for the Trivia Question!
This week’s Trivia: What does the Bible and a horse farrier have in common?
