Proverbs 7:9-20
9  In the twilight, in the evening, In the black and dark night.
10  And there a woman met him, With the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart.
11  She was loud and rebellious, Her feet would not stay at home.
12  At times she was outside, at times in the open square, Lurking at every corner.
13  So she caught him and kissed him; With an impudent face she said to him:
14  "I have peace offerings with me; Today I have paid my vows.
15  So I came out to meet you, Diligently to seek your face, And I have found you.
16  I have spread my bed with tapestry, Colored coverings of Egyptian linen.
17  I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18  Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; Let us delight ourselves with love.
19  For my husband is not at home; He has gone on a long journey;
20  He has taken a bag of money with him, And will come home on the appointed day."
Father God, send your Holy Spirit to those that read this lesson and open their heart and mind to your wonderful gift of Grace, especially those that don’t know you with their heart. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Gospel of John 1:6-13 NKJV
This lesson starts out with John the Baptist and his message of the coming Light to the World and ends with the message of salvation and what being Born Again is about and what we must do to become a child of God.
6   There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
This John is John the Baptist and his parents were Zacharias and Elizabeth. Luke 1:11-15  Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.  12  And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.  13  But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.  14  And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.  15  For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
John was definitely sent by God as you can see by the scriptures. Elizabeth was past her child bearing years just as Abraham’s wife Sarah was, but all things are possible with God. If a person just studies the timeline of the Bible they would realize there is a God and God is in control of all things. Sarah and Elizabeth were both past child bearing years, yet they both conceived by the power of God, not to mention Mary the mother of Jesus. The time span between Sarah and Elizabeth was some 2,000 year. Then look at the miracles of Jesus, the Apostles, and modern day healings. Jesus is alive and well today just as He was when the Universe was created some 6,000 years ago. So how can people say the Bible is just old stories?
7   This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
This man came for a witness; “This man” is referring to John the Baptist. He was sent by God to give testimony pertaining to Jesus the coming Saviour of the world. He was to prepare the minds of the people to receive Jesus as the Messiah. John was to lead the Jewish people to God through repentance and to point out the Messiah to Israel when he came.
To bear witness of the Light; Have you ever wondered why John had to come as a witness before Jesus? Was the object of John’s testimony that all people might believe? John’s mission or purpose was to prepare the people that the Messiah was about to come; to direct the minds of men to the coming Messiah; to prepare them to believe on Him when He came. In other words you could think of John making an introduction to the ministry of Jesus and what Jesus came to do; save people; usher in the New Covenant; promote loving God and our neighbors. John’s mission was like a movie preview to give the people bits and pieces of what salvation was all about; to pique their minds; to give the people a hungering of wanting more of Jesus.
That all through him might believe; People find this very difficult that all they have to do is believe in what Jesus did for them on the Cross. People use a completely different rationale when it comes to believing in Jesus compared to other things. For example when a person goes to pay a heating gas bill for the gas they have used they pay the Gas Company, not the Electric Company. This isn’t the way it is with people when it comes to salvation. Because salvation is a spiritual non-tangible thing, people think they have to do something on their own to gain salvation instead of placing their faith in Jesus. They balk at accepting Jesus Christ as the only Way to the Father, simply because men love to originate their own Salvation. It makes them feel important, and it appeals to their self righteousness. Above all, it is because of deception; being deceived by some false preachers, teachers, priest, doctrine, etc. Men are deceived easily, because it was by deception that man fell in the Garden of Eden. Basically John the Baptist was sent to start opening the minds of the people because God knows how stubborn, stuck in a rut, and opposed to change people are, due to their self righteousness.
8   He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
John had to tell the people that he was not the Messiah and that his purpose was to pave the way for Jesus. His words were so convincing some thought he was the Messiah. John 1:19-20 Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"  20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."
9   That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
That was the true Light; The light of course is Jesus Christ. He is the source of all light whether physical or spiritual. There are many false lights that try to imitate Jesus, but they fail miserably. Jesus is not a false, uncertain, dangerous guide, but is one that is true, real, steady, and worthy of confidence. A false light is one that leads to danger or error, as a false beacon on the shores of the ocean may lead ships to shallow reefs or rocks and severe danger or death. True light is one that does not deceive us. As a true beacon will guide a ship into port, Jesus light will not lead us astray, but to eternal life.
Which gives light; Jesus removes darkness, error, and ignorance from the mind when one repents and accepts Him as their life source.
To every man coming into the world; This phrase is expressing that salvation through Jesus is for the whole human race, Jew and Gentile. John 3:16 confirms this when it states, “….whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” This phrase from 3:16 also tells us that we have to believe, and this is the only thing we have to do is believe, for everlasting life. Everlasting life is for each and every human being if they so desire it.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
He was in the world; This phrase is making reference to Jesus in the flesh while walking this earth. It does not mean His preexistence.
And the world was made through Him; As discussed in last week’s lesson when discussing the Trinity, the world was made by and through Him. See the lesson “John 1:1-5” for more information.
And the world did not know Him; Although Jesus created the world and walked among His people He was unknown by His own chosen people even though they were taught the scriptures of the OT through the prophets. It is only through the revelation of salvation that one truly knows God and then a relationship gives birth.
It’s not any different today, people don’t want to hear about the Gospel. When you bring up the name of Jesus for discussion a lot of times the topic gets changed rather quickly. Therefore, they can keep their view of Jesus and what a person must do to go to Heaven, which in most cases is not right. So you see the majority of people today are just like the Pharisee’s and reject Jesus. How do you react when someone on the street, in Wal-Mart, at the shopping mall, or Kroger’s brings up the name of Jesus? Do you shut them down? If we call ourselves children of God; believers; aren’t we commissioned to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
11  He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
He came to His own; This phrase is referring to the Jewish people; God’s chosen people that were suppose to enlighten the world around them of God Almighty including Gentiles. They were to prepare the world for the coming of the Messiah, but failed miserably because of their acute self-righteousness.
And His own did not receive Him; “His own,” refers to His people because God had chosen them to be His above all other nations; had given to them His laws; and had protected and favored them, Deuteronomy 7:6; Deuteronomy 14:2. But through the self-righteousness of His people they rejected Jesus.
The phrase means that He came as the Heir unto His Own Possessions (Matthew 21:38), but His Own servants did not receive Him; on the contrary, they killed Him (Williams).
How sad this verse is, it would be like going to a family gathering and being shunned. Can you or have you experience something like this? This is how Jesus would have felt being rejected by his Jewish brethren, yet when the Gospel of John is mentioned the response is LOVE. The sad thing is that even today Jesus is rejected by a majority of the people in the world.
12  But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
But as many as received Him; This phrase means a few in Jesus lifetime received him, and many more after his death, but a great mass; the people; the scribes and Pharisees rejected him.
“As receive him” here, means to “believe” in him. The Bible states believe in terms of receive, accepted, the way, all meaning believe in Jesus. Terms of this nature precede the word Baptize, and causes people to think that when they are Baptized they are Born Again which is false. A person is Born Again and then a change will occur in the believer’s heart that will lead to Baptism. All who welcome Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives are reborn spiritually, receiving new life from God. Through faith in Christ, this new birth changes us from the inside out—rearranging our attitudes, desires, and motives. A physical birth places you in your parents' family. Being born of God makes you spiritually alive and puts you in God's family.
To them He gave the right to become children of God; This means that when a person repents, asks for forgiveness, and submits their lifestyle for Jesus to rule, they are granted the right to enter into the family of God. As the phrase above and below state, all we have to do is receive/believe in Jesus and what He did for us on the Cross.
To those who believe in His name; A believer places his faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus, and as long as we continue in life here on earth with our faith in Jesus, we remain in God’s family and will one day be with Him in Heaven. Only through Jesus is Heaven obtained. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
13  who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Who were born; This verse is all about having a Spiritual Birth called Born Again, beyond a shadow of a doubt it refers to a “New Birth,” or to the great change in the sinner’s heart called regeneration or conversion. It means that they did not become the children of God by virtue of their physical birth, or because they were the children of “Jews,” or because they were descended from religious parents. The term “who were born” denotes this change of being Born Again/Spiritual Birth. This is also true for today; all people. This verse is supported by the following versed which we will be studying in a future lesson. John 3:3-8 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."  4  Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"  5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.  6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'  8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit." Born Again illustrates clearly and beautifully this great change. A physical birth introduces us to life; a Spiritual Birth is the beginning of spiritual life. Before a new birth, the sinner is dead in sins (Ephesians 2:1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,); now he begins truly to live. And as the natural birth is the beginning of life, so to be born of God is to be introduced to life everlasting, to light, to happiness, and to the favor of God.
Not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man; Refers to physical birth.
But of God; This Spiritual Birth is by the power of God which produces a change within the person’s heart, resulting in being called His child. No unaided effort of man, no works of ours, can produce this change. No man is renewed who does not desire and will to be a believer; for the effect of the change, is his will, and no one is changed who does not strive to enter in to the family of God. Therefore, this very important verse teaches us: (1) That if men are saved they must be born again. (2) That their salvation is not the result of their human birth, or of any honorable or religious parentage. (3) That the children of the rich and the noble, as well as of the poor, must be born of God if they will be saved. (4) That the children of religious parents must be born again; or they cannot be saved. None will go to heaven simply because their “parents” are Christians. (5) That this work is the work of God, and “no man” can do it for us. (6) That we should forsake all human dependence, cast off all confidence in the flesh, and go at once to the throne of grace, and beseech God to adopt us into his family and save our souls from death/Lake of Fire.
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Wow so much to think about with this lesson!

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe it with your heart, Jesus will save you!
“Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and have faith you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and lead me in a new life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.”

Proverbs 7:1-8
1  My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you.
2  Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye.
3  Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4  Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," And call understanding your nearest kin,
5  That they may keep you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words.
6  For at the window of my house I looked through my lattice,
7  And saw among the simple, I perceived among the youths, A young man devoid of understanding,
8  Passing along the street near her corner; And he took the path to her house
Father God, circumcise our heart with this Book of John’s, the one you loved so dearly. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Gospel of John 1:1-5 NKJV
The Apostle John is known as the Apostle of Love, but in this Gospel there is so much more than love. It is because of love God sent His only begotten Son to die and rise for us sinner. It is because of love that Jesus came to this earth in human form to die and rise for us. This book is about salvation and through salvation Love is produced within the heart of a believer. This week’s lesson is about the deity of Jesus Christ.
1   In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
In the beginning; This verse is all about the deity of Jesus Christ. These first few words don’t imply that Jesus, God the Son had a beginning, but is referring to the beginning of creation Genesis 1:1. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit always were and always will be. This is the truth about Jesus, and the foundation of all truth. If we cannot or do not believe this basic truth, we will not have enough faith to trust our eternal destiny to him. That is why John wrote this Gospel, to build faith and confidence in Jesus Christ so that we may believe that he truly was and is the Son of God. John 20:30-31  And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;  31  but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
Was the Word; The “word” meaning scripture; God given messages through the Prophets; Gods Laws; a standard of Holiness. The Bible is God’s Words; Jesus is God; the Word is Jesus. John 1:14  And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. The Bible is an eternal survival guide to obtain Heaven for eternity. Through Jesus is the only way to the Father!
What are your thoughts when someone says the Bible is a bunch of garbage, yet they claim to be a Christian? What is their faith in, dogma of a religion? What do they actually believe in for salvation heritage, rules, and rituals of a religion? If people say the Bible is a bunch of garbage then their faith isn’t in Jesus because the Word is Jesus. In fact they are calling Jesus a liar. A person with this attitude toward the Word is practicing false security for salvation and unless they repent and accept Jesus they will not obtain Heaven. These people are being led away from God through false teachings that are not in the Bible. I challenge you to analyze what you believe in, what you were taught as a young child, and young adult. Is your beliefs upheld by the Word of God or the words of a religion?
And the Word was with God; This expression denotes friendship or intimacy. John affirms that Jesus was “with God” in the beginning before the world was made. It implies that Jesus was partaker of the divine glory; that he was blessed and happy with God. It proves that he was intimately united with the Father, so as to partake of His glory and to be appropriately called by the name God. He has himself explained it in John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. Also in John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. One last claim by Jesus that he is God the Son, is stated in John 3:13  No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
And the Word was God; Above it states, “Word became flesh and dwelt among us” this tells us that when Jesus walked this earth He was God and man. He didn’t leave His divinity in Heaven when He came to earth. He was both God and man when he dwelt among us. Some say Jesus was like God, which isn’t what John is saying here. He is God from eternity past to eternity future.
He was in the beginning with God.
This verse is still referring to Jesus as “He” and being with God during all of eternity past or since the beginning whenever that was. The Trinity has existed forever. The Trinity is something that many people can’t comprehend therefore don’t believe in it. The “Father” is “God” but not a first God. The “Son” is God, but not a “second God.” The “Holy Spirit” is “God,” but not a “third God.” There is only one God, but manifested in three Persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
As God, They had no beginning and have no ending. As God, They are uncaused, unformed, and unmade. As God, They always were and always shall be. As God, They are self-sufficient, and have need of nothing.
One can think of the Trinity like the head of a business firm. You have a President, Vice President, and head Accountant. All three have the same plan for the people that work for them to achieve the goals of a plan, but each person has a different function to monitor.
God has a plan, eternal life through salvation. God calls or draws an individual to Himself, The Holy Spirit convicts or places guilt upon an individual of wrong doing in an attempt to get them to repent of their lifestyle, and Jesus forgives an individual and makes them part of God the Fathers family. The Trinity is one mind with three functions/persons, which is a spiritual thing that we humans find hard to comprehend, but all we need to do is believe it is true, because the Bible says it is true.
3   All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
All things were made through Him; In this phrase “Him” is referring to the Word, Jesus, Son of God, God the Son. This phrase affirms that “creation” was made by “the Word,” or the Son of God. In Genesis 1:1, it is said that the Being who created the heavens and the earth was God. In Psalm 102:25-28, this work is credited to Yahweh. The “Word,” or the Son of God, is therefore appropriately called “God.” The work of “creation” is uniformly ascribed in the Scriptures to the Second Person of the Trinity. See Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. Hebrews 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; Hebrews 1:10 And: "YOU, LORD, IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH, AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORK OF YOUR HANDS. By this it is meant that Jesus was the agent by which the universe was made. There is no higher proof of omnipotence than the work of creation; and, therefore, God often appeals to that work to prove that he is the true God, in opposition to idols. The Being, therefore, that “created” all things must be divine; and, since this work is ascribed to Jesus Christ, and as it is uniformly in the Scriptures declared to be the work of God, Jesus Christ is therefore equal with the Father.
And without Him nothing was made that was made; This statement is a strong affirmation of the first part of this verse that Jesus made creation and that He is God and not just man. In this way, he confirms what he said in the first verse that He is God. Christ was not merely called God, but he did the works of God, and therefore the name is used in its proper sense as implying supreme divinity.
Remember that you exist only because God created you, and you have special gifts only because God gave them to you. With God you are something valuable and unique; apart from God you are nothing, and if you try to live without him, you will be abandoning the purpose for which you were made because you were made by God for God. Colossians 1:16
4  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
In Him was life; This phrase is referring to Jesus. It is through Jesus that we have physical life and spiritual life. We are physically born and alive today because God wills it. He put breath in us, Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Out of love, God gave us physical life! So with this statement I have this question for you. Because of the love God had for us we were created and given physical life, and because of love, our human parents made it possible for us to be born of the flesh. We are here because of God’s love and our parents love, so why do people use God’s name as an adjective to express themselves in normal conversations and not their parent names? Using God’s name other than in pray and worship is blasphemous isn’t it? Exodus 20:7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. Something to ponder and ask yourself if you love God! A true Born Again Christian will not use God’s name in vain because the Holy Spirit within the person will convict the individual so bad, the person will know they have done wrong and go to Jesus and repent of their speech. This is one of many indications of being saved.
Jesus not only gave us physical life He can give us spiritual life. He is the “new creation”; He can renovate our sinful life into a new life of light. He can deliver us from that inherited sin nature that we were born with. You can think of it in terms of our human birth as our first creation and a spiritual birth as a new creation. Jesus is the source of life here and now and for eternity! This is why John references that Jesus is the source of “life” in his writings. Ephesians 2:1; John 5:26; John 6:33; John 11:25; 1John 1:1-2; 1John 5:11; Acts 3:15; Colossians 3:4
And the life was the light of men; The “life” is referring to Jesus. Jesus is our light, He brought light into this world when He died and rose from the dead. Jesus is the second Adam that has restored the light that the first Adam failed to hang onto. Mankind is born dying as is all of creation because of the fall of Adam. Before the fall Jesus was the light of mankind meaning there was no other life or light. Jesus always was, is, and will be for eternity. He is our life source and with the fall of Adam we fell into darkness. The “light” was lost when Adam forfeited eternal life for worldly wisdom, knowledge, good, and evil, and then God automatically set forth to restore the “life” by bringing forth His Son Jesus as man; the Light of the World; the second Adam.
The Fall was of such magnitude that there is no way man can fully comprehend its scope. He cannot tell how far he has fallen, because he has no idea of God’s original state. He is lost because he cannot compare his life to what God intended our life to be like without sin, therefore we compare our life to the lifestyle of our friends, neighbors, relatives, etc. and call ourselves good people. Good meaning mans standards and not God’s Law. Man knows that something is wrong, but due to having no “Light,” he does not know exactly what it is. He continues to think it can be corrected by education, money, or various different philosophies. Therefore, he chooses modern psychology, even though it does not work and he knows it does not work. He thinks he is only slightly separated from God, and can be quickly changed, so he talks about the “psychology of life,” which is man’s answer to man’s dilemma, or “the strength from within,” as if he can solve his own problems. Despite the fact of thousands of years trying, he can’t do.
5   And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
And the light shines in the darkness; The light of Jesus can never be extinguished by darkness of evil. Jesus defeated Satan’s darkness when He rose from the dead. Jesus Christ is the Creator of life, and His life brings light to mankind. In His light, we see ourselves as we really are, sinners in need of a Savior. When we follow Jesus, the true Light, we can avoid walking blindly and falling into sin. He lights our path and removes the darkness of sin from our lives.
Darkness in the Bible, commonly denotes ignorance, guilt, or misery. See Isaiah 9:1-2; Acts 26:18; Ephesians 5:8, Ephesians 5:11; Romans 13:12. Here it refers to a wicked and ignorant people. When it is said that “the light shines in darkness,” it is meant that the Lord Jesus came to teach an ignorant, benighted, (In a state of pitiful or contemptible intellectual or moral ignorance; Being overtaken by Satan’s wickedness.) and wicked world. This has always been the case. It was so when He sent His prophets in the OT; it was so during Jesus ministry; and it has been so in every age since. God’s efforts to enlighten and save mankind is like a few beams of sunlight shining through the clouds on a cloudy day. Only a few rays pierce through the clouds (Only a remnant get saved.), yet the great mass of clouds is still impenetrable.
And the darkness did not comprehend it; The darkness here denotes unsaved individuals. As stated earlier it is difficult for an unsaved person to comprehend the Gospel because they judge themselves against other people. They can’t comprehend, meaning understand, what life would be like without sin on this earth, therefore they continue in their sinful lifestyle because they deem themselves better than John and Jane Doe.
Just like the beams of sun not capable of penetrating the clouds, the heart of mankind can’t be penetrated by the Gospel because they are so ignorant, so guilty, so debased, that they did not appreciate the value of Jesus instructions. They despised and rejected Him because of the sin nature that resides in them that promotes arrogance, pride, and having all the answers to all problems, and it is still that way today!
The great mass of mankind, sunk in sin, will not receive His teachings, and be enlightened and saved by Jesus. Sin always blinds the mind to the beauty and Excellency of our Lord Jesus. It indisposes the mind to receive His instructions, just as “darkness” has no similarity as “light;” when the one exists, the other must be displaced.
Do you ever feel that your life is too complex for God to understand? Remember, God created the entire universe, and nothing is too difficult for him. God created you; he is alive today, and his love is bigger than any problem you may face. Repent and let Jesus lead your life.
Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.

Proverbs 6:24-35
24  To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
25  Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.
26  For by means of a harlot A man is reduced to a crust of bread; And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life.
27  Can a man take fire to his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?
28  Can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be seared?
29  So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; Whoever touches her shall not be innocent.
30  People do not despise a thief If he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving.
31  Yet when he is found, he must restore sevenfold; He may have to give up all the substance of his house.
32  Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul.
33  Wounds and dishonor he will get, And his reproach will not be wiped away.
34  For jealousy is a husband's fury; Therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35  He will accept no recompense, Nor will he be appeased though you give many gifts.
Father God, we thank you for the many blessings you bestow upon us. Bless our loved ones and grow their relationship with you. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Gospel of John Introduction NKJV
I have struggled many weeks on what book of the Bible to write on next. I keep getting drawn back to the Gospel of John, but when I read it as I have read other books in quest to determine what to write on next, it overwhelms me. I had this same apprehension when I wrote on the Book of Revelation because it seemed so far over my head for comprehension. Seeing how the Holy Spirit guided me through Revelation I have conceded to move forward with the Gospel of John knowing that He will show me and help me with this commentary.
Johns Parents:
John was part of the laboring class of his time. He had little if any opportunity to sit at the feet of the great teachers of that day. When Jesus called him, along with his brother James, who were sons of Zebedee they were toiling in the occupation in which they had been raised, the fishing business.
John’s mother’s name was Salome, and is the third woman who is said to have accompanied the two Mary’s to the Tomb (Matthew 27:56; Mark 16:1). Some think that Salome may have been the sister of Mary the Mother of Jesus. If this is correct, then John would have been first-cousin to Jesus on his mother’s side.
Was John a disciple of John the Baptist?
He has often been identified with the unnamed Disciple of John the Baptist, who with Andrew was directed by the Baptist to Jesus as the Lamb of God (John 1:35–37). If this is correct, he had a hunger for God before he met Jesus.
Sons of Thunder:
John and his brother James were nicknamed “Sons of Thunder” by Jesus. John was not afraid to speak out and had zeal for the Gospel, Luke 9:49. Of the twelve apostles John, his brother James, and Peter had a special relationship with Jesus, despite their spontaneity outburst. Our Lord saw something in them, despite the rough outward expression, knowing it could be molded into the image of the heavenly, and so it was! John is identified as the disciple whom Jesus loved John 13:23; 19:26; 20:2; 21:7, 20.
John was Bold:
(JSM): “It seems that both John and Peter had to bear the main brunt of Jewish hostility to the early Christian Church (Acts 4:13; 5:33, 40). Both men showed a boldness of speech and action which astounded the Jewish authorities who regarded them as “uneducated men” (Acts 4:13).
It is said that John played a leading part in the Church at Jerusalem. He was said by Paul to be a “pillar” of the Jerusalem Church at the time when Paul visited the city some fourteen years after his conversion (Galatians 2:9).
Neither when John left Jerusalem, nor where he went after his departure are known.
It is assumed that he was at Ephesus when he was banished to Patmos “on account of the Word of God, and the Testimony of Jesus” (Revelation 1:9). However, the date of this exile is uncertain.”
Johns Death:
(JSM): “He is supposed to have died at about a hundred years of age, actually the only Apostle of the original twelve it is said, who died a natural death.
Jerome says that John after Patmos, tarried at Ephesus to an extreme old age, and records that, when he had to be carried to the meetings, due to being unable to walk, he would repeat again and again, “Little children, love one another.”
This Gospel of John was written sometime between A. D. 80-95.
The analysis of this gospel:
(George Williams): “The Holy Spirit in the three prior Books (Gospels) cried: “Behold your King!” (Matthew). Mark said in essence, “Behold your Prophet!”; while Luke in essence exclaimed, “Behold your Priest!”
But in this fourth Book John cries: “Behold your God!” (Isaiah 40:9); for His purpose in this Gospel is to present the Lord Jesus as God.
Thus this Gospel is necessarily distinct from the other three. They present His perfect humanity, and are called Synoptic (Meaning similarities in content, order, and statement in reference of the first three Gospels; Matthew, Mark, and Luke.) because of this common purpose.
This fundamental distinction between the first three Gospels and the fourth demands the many differences in literary style, and in other features particular to this Book.”
John’s Gospel is unique among the four gospels. It records much about Jesus Ministry in Judea and Jerusalem that the other three Gospels omit, and reveals more fully the mystery of Jesus personhood.
According to ancient sources John was requested by the elders of Asia to write this “spiritual Gospel” in order to counteract and refute a dangerous heresy about the nature, person, and deity of Jesus led by a persuasive Jew named Cerinthus. John’s Gospel continues to serve the church as a profound theological statement about “the truth” that Jesus was human and God.
John’s Purpose For Writing This Book:
John states his purpose for writing in the 20th chapter verse 31. John 20:31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. This verse states two things; first for unbelievers to believe Jesus is Christ, the Son of God and second to continue believing this for eternal life and disregard false prophet teachings.
(NKJV Study Bible): “The Gospel of John is a persuasive argument for the deity of Jesus. It concentrates on presenting Jesus as the Word, that is, God (1:1) who became a man (1:14). Thus John meticulously records the statements and describes the miracles of Jesus that can only be attributed to God Himself.
Jesus called Himself the bread of life (6:35, 41, 48, 51), the light of the world (8:12; 9:5), the door for the sheep (10:7, 9), the good shepherd (10:11, 14), the resurrection and the life (11:25), the way, the truth, the life (14:6), and the true vine (15:1, 5). Each of these statements begins with the words, “I am,” recalling God’s revelation of His name, “I AM,” to Moses (see Ex. 3:14). Jesus did not say He gave bread; He said He is the Bread which gives life. He did not say He would teach the way, the truth, and the life; instead He said He is the Way, because He is the Truth and the Life. These are Jesus’ clear claims to deity: He was not a mere man.
Then there are the signs of Jesus’ deity. Miracles in the Gospel of John are called “signs” because they point to Jesus’ divine nature. John records seven such signs: changing water into wine (2:1–11), healing a man’s son (4:46–54), healing a lame man (5:1–9), multiplying bread and fish (6:1–14), walking on water (6:15–21), healing a blind man (9:1–7), and raising Lazarus (11:38–44). These miracles show that Jesus is God; He possesses power over nature. Other indications of Jesus’ deity include the testimonies of John the Baptist (1:32–34), Nathanael (1:49), the blind man (9:35–38), Martha (11:27), and Thomas (20:28)—not to mention Jesus’ own words (5:19–26).
Jesus was also fully man. His body grew weary (4:6), His soul was troubled (12:27; 13:21), and He groaned in His spirit (11:33). At the same time, this God-man was Israel’s Messiah. Andrew told his brother, “We have found the Messiah” (1:41). Nathanael concluded, “You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” (1:49). Even the Samaritan woman testified to Jesus’ identity (4:25, 26, 29). Jesus the Messiah was and is the Savior of the world (4:42; 11:27; 12:13).
John urges us to trust in Jesus for eternal life. Our trust is built on our belief that (1) the Father is in Christ, and Christ is in the Father (10:38; 14:10, 11); (2) Christ came from God (16:17, 30), and God sent Him (11:42; 17:8, 21; see 6:29); and (3) He is the Son of God (6:69; 11:27; 20:31). John reveals the Bible’s most important message: Believe and follow Jesus, because He is the way to eternal life.”
Differences Between the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke Compared to John:
Here’s a few differences: The Temptation in the Wilderness and the Agony in the Garden, etc., are omitted because they are out of harmony with the purpose of the Book.
For a similar reason the Transfiguration is omitted; for that concerned His physical glory while the great subject of this fourth Book is His Moral Glory.
In this Gospel His Person is presented rather than His action; and Jerusalem is the center rather than Galilee, as in the other three.
Words, and terms, and incidents revealing His attributes as God are brought forth in John compared to the other Gospels. For example; In them the Lord is presented as “praying” to the Father; in John’s Gospel as “speaking” to Him. In this Gospel alone Jesus “lays down” His Life, no one takes it from Him. John 10:17 "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again.
The Gospel of John presents carefully selected evidence that Jesus was Israel’s Messiah and God’s incarnate (not adopted) Son. The supporting evidence includes:
1.  Seven signs, 2:1-11; 4:46-54; 5:2-18; 6:1-14; 6:16-21; 9:1-41; 11:1-46. Seven discourses, 3:1-21; 4:4-42; 5:19-47; 6:22-59; 7:37-44; 8:12-30; 10:1-21. Through these Jesus revealed His true identity.
2.  Jesus made seven, “I Am” statements, 6:35; 8:12; 10:7; 10:11; 11:25; 14:6; 15:1 by which He revealed that he was God the Son.
3.  His bodily resurrection as the ultimate sign and the climatic proof that He is the Christ, the Son of God.
Divisions in the Gospel of John:
There are two major divisions in this book:
1.  Chapters 1-12 present the incarnation and public ministry of Jesus. In spite of Jesus seven convincing signs, seven profound discourses, and seven astounding “I Am” claims, the Jews still rejected Him as their Messiah.
2.  Jesus being rejected by the old covenant Israel, He then (Chapters 13-21) focused on His disciples as the nucleus of the new covenant people (i.e. the church He founded) . These chapters include Jesus last supper (Chapter 13), His last discourses (Chapters 14-16), and His final prayer (Chapter 17) for His disciples and for all believers. The new covenant was then initiated and established by His death (Chapters 18-19) and resurrection (Chapters 20-21).
Eight Features Emphasized in John’s Gospel:
1.  It emphasizes the deity of Jesus as the Son of God in 1:14 and Thomas declaration, “My Lord and My God in 20:28.
2.  Various forms of the word “believe” occur 98 times, representing the equivalent of receiving Christ (1:12), and involving a heart (not just a mental) response that results in an ongoing commitment of one’s whole life to Him.
3.  Eternal life is a key concept of John’s Gospel with that assurance of being Born Again resulting in a change within the person, of heart, mind, speech, action, habits.
4.  Personal encounters with Jesus are featured throughout the Gospel 27 times.
5.  The Ministry of the Holy Spirit enables believers to experience Jesus life and power after His death and resurrection.
6.  Emphasis of truth, Jesus is the truth, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth, and God’s Word is the Truth. The truth sets people free (8:32) and cleanses them (15:3).
7.  The number seven is prominent just as it is in the Book of Revelation. Seven signifies completeness. Seven signs, seven discourses, and seven “I AM”.
8.  John’s other prominent words and concepts; light, word, flesh, love, witness, know darkness, and world.
Next week we will start on Chapter One of John’s great Gospel.
