Proverbs 7:21-27
21  With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, With her flattering lips she seduced him.
22  Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,
23  Till an arrow struck his liver. As a bird hastens to the snare, He did not know it would cost his life.
24  Now therefore, listen to me, my children; Pay attention to the words of my mouth:
25  Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, Do not stray into her paths;
26  For she has cast down many wounded, And all who were slain by her were strong men.
27  Her house is the way to hell, Descending to the chambers of death.
Father God, thank you for all you do in our lives. We praise Your Holy name. Amen!
Book of I Peter 4:1-9 NKJV
This week’s lesson starts out with, “Victory over Sin” and ends with the “Judgment of God”.
1  Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh; What Peter is telling us is that through suffering, pertaining to living for Jesus and not the desires of our flesh, helps us be like Christ, although our human nature is to avoid suffering and persecution and go along with society in a quiet fashion, but we need to always remember we will answer for our actions at some point. If we claim to be followers of Christ, we should be willing and prepared to do God's will and to endure the suffering that goes with a Christlike lifestyle.
Let’s take the Apostle Paul’s life as an example. Paul suffered greatly in many occasions after he accepted Jesus as his saviour and was baptized, with one occasion where those that stoned him considered him dead and maybe he was because he refers to a time of an out of body experience. Here is a list of what Paul endured for Jesus; 2 Corinthians 11:23-28 Are they ministers of Christ?—I speak as a fool—I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often.  24 From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one.  25 Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;  26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;  27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness— 28 besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches. What Paul went through for Jesus is unbelievable, and we shy away from speaking out against the immorality of our society, for fear of offending or being offended by words. We need to ask God for some of what Paul had, fortitude.
Arm yourselves also with the same mind; Just like Peter and Paul we need to arm, train, and prepare our mind so that we can do the works of Christ. This is a very difficult thing to do because of our human nature, and that is why we need to have that Spiritual Birth so the Holy Spirit will come and live within our hearts to gives us the fortitude we need. It is faith in the Cross of Christ that provides the armor we need to foster a Christlike mind.
This readiness to suffer and die the apostle speaks of as armour, and having this, is represented as being armed. Armour is put on for offensive or defensive purposes in war; and the idea of the apostle here is to prepare our mind to meet with persecution and trial; to prepare us for death if engaged in conflicts and strife pertaining to standing up for Jesus especially in meeting with persecutions and trials. We are to put on the same fortitude which the Lord Jesus had, and this will be the best defense against our foes, and the best security of victory.
For he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; To “suffer in the flesh” is to die. The expression here has a proverbial aspect, and seems to have meant something like this: “when a man is dead, he will sin no more;” referring of course to the present life. So if a Christian becomes dead in a moral sense - dead to this world (Born Again), dead by being crucified with Christ he may be expected to cease from sin. The reasoning is based on the idea that there is such a union between Christ and the believer that his death on the cross secured the death of the believer to the world. 2 Timothy 2:11 This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. Colossians 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. We can overcome sin when we focus on Christ and what he wants us to do. Anyone who suffers for doing good, and still faithfully obeys in spite of suffering, will have dominion over sin.
2  that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men; This phrase goes right along with the last phrase of verse one. When a person is Born Again, spiritually they die to their old sinful way of life and begin a new life guided by the Holy Spirit. All of a sudden their eyes, mind, and heart are opened to the sinful lifestyle they have been living and they no long want to live that way; they realize their words and actions are offensive to God and go against His divine nature.
But for the will of God; What Peter is saying here is that a person no longer wants to live for the lusts of the flesh, but for holiness and eternal life with their Creator. Paul tells us this in Corinthians that he was sent to preach the truth without misleading or clever speeches, so people will come to realize how sinful their life is and then repent of it and be baptized. 1 Corinthians 1:17-18 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.  18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. Based on these verses by Paul, note that he is saying we have to repent to be saved.
3  For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.
For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles; The meaning of this is that each and every person born starts out living a life of sin. We can observe this in the conduct of people the ages of 2 and up. Who taught the toddler to be selfish and not share toys; to bite and hit; to throw temper tantrums; to be rude, etc.? No one did they were born with that nature of self. This is why as parents we have to curb this type of behavior. As parents we are to teach our children God’s ways and not man’s ways. As infants some denominations conduct infant dedications and some infant baptisms. Have you ever listened to what the pastor or priest say? Both rituals are a contract between God and the parents, god parents, and congregation agreeing to raise the child in a Godly way. Neither ritual cleanses a baby of sin, if this were the case then children and adults would have a totally different disposition than what they have, wouldn’t they? There wouldn’t be the terrible twos, disobedience, no respect for authority, etc. It is because of the sin nature that everyone needs to repent and accept Jesus. Ephesians 2:1-3 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,  2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,  3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,  20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,  21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
When we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries; This is just a short list of how an unsaved person walks in sin.
Lewdness- The unlawful indulgence of lust; fornication, or adultery. In Scripture, it generally denotes idolatry.
Lust-Wants and desires, covetousness.
Drunkenness- Is intoxication; inebriation; a state in which a person is overwhelmed or overpowered with spirituous liquors, so that his reason is disordered. The affects of alcohol is evident with one drink.
Revelries-Lively and noisy festivities, especially when these involve drinking a large amount of alcohol.
Drinking parties-Going out and consuming alcohol with groups of people.
Abominable idolatries-Praying to an object, person, place, or thing that is here on earth, Heaven, or abyss below, other than to Jesus for our needs.
Here is just a few other lists in the Bible of sin: Titus 3:1-3 Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,  2 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.  3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. Romans 1:28-32 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;  29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,  30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,  31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;  32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:  2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,  3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,  4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,  5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! Colossians 3:6-8 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,  7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.  8  But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Ephesians 5:3-5 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;  4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.  5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
4  In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.
In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation; Anyone that repents and starts living for God, all of a sudden will not want to and will make up excuses not to run with a crowd of rabble rousers, foul mouthed, drinking, etc. group. Their old buddies/girl friends will not understand this new conduct; it will be a mystery to them.
Speaking evil of you; As a result of this new conduct the child of God will be made fun of, be spoken evil of, gossiped about, etc. This new conduct is a sign from God via the Holy Spirit residing in the Born Again individual and assurance one is saved and bound for Heaven.
Before I was saved I loved going to parties and wedding receptions and indulging in the alcohol, but after my spiritual birth I no longer had any desire, in fact now I only go for a very brief time to offer congratulations or find an excuse not to go where alcohol flows.
5  They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
This verse is referring to Jesus judging all at some point in time. When Jesus returns there will be those that are alive along with those that have perished. All will be judged.
6  For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead; Peter makes this statement to give assurance to those around him that those who heard the Gospel, accepted it, and then died a physical death were saved and in Heaven. Peter’s time era was plagued with martyrdom and this concerned other believers that those who suffered death would not see Jesus.
That they might be judged according to men in the flesh; This phrase is referring to the unsaved judging the actions and faith of the saved. These Christians of whom Peter speaks, were judged very harshly by men while they were alive. They were judged to be unfit for human society, and some were killed for their testimony. In fact, Paul mentions this in Hebrews 11:36-39.
But live according to God in the spirit; This refers to every Saint of God who has lived and died and is now with the Lord.
7  But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
Just as the believers and Apostles thought Jesus would return soon because of the state of their society we are seeing the same thing. We must pray unceasingly and be watchful each day, we know not the hour.
8  And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "LOVE WILL COVER A MULTITUDE OF SINS."
9  Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.
Peter here reinforces the Second Greatest Commandment; Love thy neighbor as thy self. If we truly love God, loving our neighbor will fall right into place along with living a Godly life.
Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe it with your heart, Jesus will save you!
“Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and have faith you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and lead me in a new life. Proverbs 7:11-20
11  She was loud and rebellious, Her feet would not stay at home.
12  At times she was outside, at times in the open square, Lurking at every corner.
13  So she caught him and kissed him; With an impudent face she said to him:
14  "I have peace offerings with me; Today I have paid my vows.
15  So I came out to meet you, Diligently to seek your face, And I have found you.
16  I have spread my bed with tapestry, Colored coverings of Egyptian linen.
17  I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18  Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; Let us delight ourselves with love.
19  For my husband is not at home; He has gone on a long journey;
20  He has taken a bag of money with him, And will come home on the appointed day."
Father God, send you Spirit to the unsaved to convict them of their sinfulness to drive them to repent. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Book of I Peter 3:14-22 NKJV
Last week we left off with verse 13, “And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good?” With verse 13 Peter started with persecution of people that are followers of Jesus. Anyone that is a follower of Jesus and promotes the Gospel will be persecuted in some fashion.
This week we will continue with persecution and then touch on the will of God, Spirits, water baptism, and Christ exaltation. These two books of Peter aren’t very long, but Peter sure has a lot to say in them.
14  But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "AND DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THEIR THREATS, NOR BE TROUBLED."
But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed; This phrase is saying; even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. God is greatly pleased with us if we do what is right. He will remember the righteous things we do when we stand before Him one day.
AND DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THEIR THREATS, NOR BE TROUBLED; As true believers we should not be troubled by what people say or do to us, because we are not of this world. We belong to Jesus Christ and He will provide us what we need. Our goal is to please God and do His work while we are here on earth. If we fear persecution, worry about what people think about our religious beliefs, worry about what people think of us, then are we living to please man or God? Are we actually saved if we hold back telling people what sin is or that the lifestyle they are living is sinful?
This phrase is taken from Isaiah which shows there was persecution in his time era for being faithful to God and doing God’s will. Isaiah 8:12 "Do not say, 'A conspiracy,' Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.
There will be persecution till the day Jesus returns and then rids this earth of corruption. This persecution is another fine example of what the fall of Adam caused. The sin nature is the cause of persecution of God’s children, because these people that do the persecuting do not have the love of Jesus within their heart; they haven’t repented of their lifestyle and accepted Jesus as their Saviour (Born Again); they are living a life based off of their human rationale and not of God’s word, the Bible. Unless one is Born Again they cannot see the Kingdom of God the Father, John 3:3.
15  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; We need to hold God’s Word the Bible in our hearts at all times and live by what is says. If we strive to live according to what the Bible states and not pick and choose what we want to live by, then we will sanctify God. This type of lifestyle will result in fearing God and not man. Isaiah 8:13 The LORD of hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be your fear, And let Him be your dread. A change in one’s lifestyle in this manner would be one sign of being saved
And always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you; Some Christians believe that faith is a personal matter that should be kept to oneself, but that isn’t what Jesus commanded us to do. He sent out His apostles to proclaim the Gospel and as a saved individual we are commissioned also to go out and spread the Good News. A Born Again individual should always be ready and willing to share what Jesus Christ has done in their life and how their life has been changed because of their faith in the Cross.
With meekness and fear; We should always be ready to give an answer, gently and respectfully, when asked about our faith, our lifestyle, or our Christian perspective. We shouldn't be boisterous or obnoxious in sharing our faith, but courteous and willing.
16  having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.
Having a good conscience; Peter is telling us to live a good lifestyle; one that is for our Lord; doing what Jesus would do, etc. As a Christian, a person may not be able to stop people from speaking evil against them, but they can at least stop supplying them with ammunition by living righteously. As long as you do what is right, their accusations will be empty and only embarrass them. Keep your conduct above criticism!
That when they defame you as evildoers; As a follower of Jesus, a Christian can expect people to speak false acquisitions of them, through ignorance of God’s Word. Jesus tells us we will be persecuted in Matthew 5:11 "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Jesus knew they hated Him and that anyone that has their faith in Jesus will also be hated by worldly people, therefore He gives us reassurance that we are doing His will when we reap persecution for His Glory. We should be proud to be persecuted just like the apostles were. Acts 4:23-24 And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.  24 So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: "Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them. Have you been persecuted for speaking out for Jesus?
Those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed; Peter reaffirms here that people of the world may accuse Christians if insincerity, hypocrisy, dishonesty; judging; of being enemies of the state, or of crimes; but the time will come when they will see their error.
Within the past year or two there are many examples of persecution happening right here in the U.S. The most recent is Kim Davis and you also have the bakers refusing to make a wedding cake for homosexuals. If we could see all the hate correspondence these people have received it would be incomprehensible how cruel people can be. These people might even call themselves christians, but in reality they are living to please themselves. The Righteousness of Christ will ultimately prevail. In other words, those who falsely accuse will ultimately be proven wrong. Psalms 37:5-6 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.  6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.
17  For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
With this verse Peter is addressing the will of God pertaining to our life. What he is saying is that there is honor in suffering; for standing up and defending the Word of God and not doing wrong. If we have to endure suffering for Jesus, this is far better than doing wrong and going through chastisement from our Lord.
18  For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,
For Christ also suffered once for sins; Jesus suffered and died for us; for the sin that resides in us due to the fall of mankind through Adam. Jesus suffering, death, and resurrection is what gives us hope for eternal life by faith in what He did for us on the Cross. This sacrifice is one that never has to be repeated like the sacrifices of the OT.
The just for the unjust; Jesus was holy, pure, and spotless. He kept the Law perfectly and there was no sin in Him. He is the just and He died for us the unjust. No matter how good we think we are, there is no comparison to perfection/Jesus. We fall short each and every day. Romans 3:23  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
That He might bring us to God; This phrase is referring to Jesus death and resurrection and that through this act of unselfish love for mankind, He has opened the door of eternal life in the presence of God, if we will repent of our lifestyle and ask Jesus to rule the remainder of our life here on earth by placing our faith in Him.
Being put to death in the flesh; This means that Jesus died physically for mankind. He sacrificed His spotless flesh as the ultimate sacrifice, never to be repeated in any fashion, form, or ritual. Oh and just so all understand, Jesus Spirit did not died, it was just His flesh; outer covering; the tent that He was housed in. Some say His Spirit died which is untrue. It isn’t any different than what happens to us when we die, our flesh dies, but our spirit lives on for eternity.
But made alive by the Spirit; It was by the power of the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. The same happens to us, the Holy Spirit lifts our spirit up before God. Romans 8:10-13 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.  12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.  13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
19  by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison,
By whom also He went and preached to; Between Jesus death and resurrection He went and preached to the spirits that God put in prison.
The spirits in prison; This verse is one that has entertained many discussions. In studying it out the key words are spirits in prison. Here are two verses that speak of spirits and prison or being locked up; 2 Peter 2:4  For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; Jude 1:6  And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;
This does not refer to humans with the word spirit being used, but rather to fallen Angels; humans in the Bible are never referred to in this particular manner; these were probably the fallen Angels who tried to corrupt the human race by co-habiting with women; these fallen Angels are still locked up in this underworld prison. These spirits were cohabitating with women prior to the flood.
20  who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.
Who formerly were disobedient; Who, in this phrase is referring to the spirit or angels that were disobedient. These disobedient angels are the ones mentioned in Genesis 6:1-4. There were these angels that saw the daughters of man that were beautiful and they took them as wives resulting in offspring of half human and half angel. This was not part of God’s plan and therefore the reason for the flood to cleanse the earth and new life. These angels were then put in prison to prevent this from ever happening again.
When once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared; This is referring to the days of Noah and the time it took for the Ark to be built. We don’t know exactly how long of time period was involved, but it is referred to as Divine longsuffering. During this time frame angels were cohabitating with women. God was deeply grieved that this was happening.
In which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water; Noah, his wife, and his three sons and their wives were saved from the flood. Not saved spiritually but from perishing in the flood waters. This tells us all of mankind was corrupt and not living a Godly life.
21  There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism; Peter is making a correlation between Noah and his family being saved in the Ark floating on the flood water and baptism. We are saved by faith through repentance of our sinful lifestyle and then as a symbol of our repentance, or vow to live for Jesus we are baptized. Noah survived the flood due to his faith in God. They were in the Ark of God; floating on the water because of their faith; under God’s covenant. The earth was baptized and renewed with new life, just as baptism is a symbol of our new life when we repent.
(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God); With this phrase here Peter is telling us that baptism doesn’t save a person it is through a good conscience of realizing we are born sinners and by repentance or changing our lifestyle is what saves a person.
Albert Barnes: Baptism - Not the mere application of water, for that idea the apostle expressly disclaims, when he says that it involves not “putting away the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God.” The meaning is, that baptism, including all that is properly meant by baptism as a religious rite - that is, baptism administered in connection with true repentance, and true faith in the Lord Jesus, and when it is properly a symbol of the putting away of sin, and of the renewing influences of the Holy Spirit, and an act of unreserved dedication to God - now saves us.
About a month after I was saved I had a desire to be baptized; I was saved by faith through repentance not by being baptized, but baptism does go hand in hand with repentance.
Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ; This refers to the Cross of Christ, and the Believing sinner being raised with Christ in “newness of life” (Baptism). Romans 6:4–5
22  who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
This verse is of course referring to Jesus who ascended to Heaven; His mission complete. He is seated at the right hand of God signifying that His sacrifice was acceptable to God and all are subject to Him, holy and unholy.

Proverbs 7:1-10
1  My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you.
2  Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye.
3  Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4  Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," And call understanding your nearest kin,
5  That they may keep you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words.
6  For at the window of my house I looked through my lattice,
7  And saw among the simple, I perceived among the youths, A young man devoid of understanding,
8  Passing along the street near her corner; And he took the path to her house
9  In the twilight, in the evening, In the black and dark night.
10  And there a woman met him, With the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart.
Father God, give us the desire to pick up your Holy Word and spend time with you each day to better understand what You are telling us in the Bible. Help us to live what we learn. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Book of I Peter 3:7-13 NKJV
Peter continues with how saved husbands are to treat their wives whether they are saved or unsaved, and he goes on to how we are to treat others. As Christians we are to have relations with others around us that display the righteousness of Christ our Lord. We are to be a beacon of light and model Jesus footsteps. With our inherited sin nature, this can, and is a difficult thing at times. Our feelings and emotions often times get in the way and prevent us from displaying goodness. That is why it is a daily struggle and we must be in the Word of God daily to gain strength to do right.
7  Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.
Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding; Peter now switches to the Christian husbands, saved husbands, and gives them direction on how to act toward their wives. This verse puts a whole new twist on how husbands are to treat their wives back in Peter’s time and before. This was something totally new to the Christian Husbands. Wives were almost viewed as servants; they tended to chores around the home and field; they were to be seen and not heard; in some instances the wife was there to please the man. God created woman to be a helper not a slave.  Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him."
God created woman to be a companion; to share life together; to help one another. God took a rib out of Adams side and created woman. This signified that man and women are to be unified and work in unison with each other; respect and honor each other. Genesis 2:21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. If God wanted woman to lord over her husband He would have taken a bone from the top of Adams head to form her, or if He wanted man to be a dictator over his wife, God would have taken bones from Adam’s feet to form woman, but He didn’t, it was a rib from Adams side, therefore husband and wife are to work together, be one, love, respect, and honor each other. Just as Jesus is the head of the church, meaning saved individuals, husbands are to be the head of the home. Being part of the church, at times we get conviction of our actions, and don’t like it because it is a chastening by God, but we submit to His guidance. It is out of love we submit to Him and it is out of love He chastens us. Jesus and his bride the church, is the example we are to follow in a marriage of one man and one woman.
Giving honor to the wife; With this phrase Peter is also emphasizing that with Christianity, being saved, the woman is a partaker of Christianity also. We have to stop and think about the customs of Peter’s times and how women were treated. There was an important advance made in society when Christianity gave birth. Everywhere among the pagans, and under all false systems of religion, women had little honor or respect. She has been considered as a slave, or as a mere instrument to gratify the passions of man. It is one of the elementary doctrines of Christianity, however, that woman is to be treated with respect; and one of the first and most marked effects of religion on society is to elevate the wife to a condition in which she will be worthy of esteem. The particular reasons for the honor which husbands are directed to show to their wives, are two: she is to be treated with special kindness through love, respect, and honor; and she is to be honored as the equal heir of the grace of life.
As to the weaker vessel; This phrase has been discussed and discussed again as to what Peter is referring to here. Vessel isn’t the issue here because we all know that our bodies are referred to as a vessel or a container for our soul, (1 Thessalonians 4:4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor. Acts 9:15 But the Lord said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. Romans 9:22-23 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,  23 and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory. 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.  7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.)  the issue is the word weaker referring to physical make up, although there are some women who can and do labor in jobs that are very physical and strenuous. So what Peter is referring to is the physical differences in the way man and woman are made, physical strength. Women have mental capabilities equal to men, she may have moral qualities in every way superior to his; but the God of nature has made her with a more delicate frame.
And as being heirs together of the grace of life; What Peter is saying is that the husband is to honor his wife because she is a joint-heir with him, of Eternal Life, the Gift of God.
That your prayers may not be hindered; Plain and simple what Peter is telling us is that if we ignore the word of God that was inspired by the Holy Spirit, our prayers that we pray may fall on deaf ears of the Lord. Does Jesus hear the prayers of the saved and unsaved? If we are disobedient and living for the pleasures of the world and self gratification, are the prayers of the unsaved heard? We know of one instance where Jesus prayed for the saved and not for those living for worldly things. John 17:9-10 "I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.  10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. What a sobering thought to ponder!
8  Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;
Finally; Peter is closing his exhortations of how our relations should be with brothers, sisters, husband, wives, and people in general.
All of you be of one mind; If we are Born Again Christians we should all be of one mind. Why is that, because when a person has a Spiritual Birth the Holy Spirit takes up residence within the heart of the believer. 1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? A believer will have the disposition of not arguing over trivial things. They won’t argue about what the Bible says because they have the truth inside them. They will try to explain what the Gospel is, but not argue about it. All a person can do is share the Gospel and then pray that the individual will see the light and come to Jesus with an open and contrite heart. The old saying is that you can lead a horse to the water trough, but you can’t make him drink the water.
Compassion for one another; A true believer will have compassion for another true believer’s welfare because they are brothers and/or sisters in Christ.
Love as brothers; There love for each other is more than just a friendship love, it is a type of family love because of being saved. It is an unconditional love, an understanding of what being saved is all about, forgiveness, justification, sanctification, and grace. There is a special bond that is hard to explain when one Born Again Saint meets another, that special bond is because the Holy Spirit resides in both of them.
Be tenderhearted; In other words caring about another believer and their well being.
Be courteous; Being friendly and of good cheer, often times soft spoken.
9  not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
Not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing; A saved individual will not seek revenge or wish hardship on a person that wrongs them. They will pray for the person that causes harm to them. They will ask God to forgive their offenders because they don’t know what they are doing or have done. They will follow Jesus example when He was on the Cross and He asked His Father to forgive them for what they had done.
A true believer will accept the things of life even if they are innocent of no wrong doing and not seek revenge, however they will stand up for the truth of God’s Word. Take Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis for example. She wouldn’t and won’t issue a marriage license to same sex couples with her name on the certificate. She spent a weekend in jail because of her belief; she is standing up for God; she has gone through persecution because of her belief in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Is she seeking revenge for what has been done to her, no, she is standing up for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is a huge difference in seeking evil or reviling compared to standing up for Jesus.
Knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing; What this phrase is saying is that a person that is Born Again will all of a sudden realize they had been living a life of enmity against God, but when they answered the call of God and accepted Jesus into their heart, they became fully aware of the inherited blessing they had just received. Romans 8:7-8 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.  8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
10 For "HE WHO WOULD LOVE LIFE AND SEE GOOD DAYS, LET HIM REFRAIN HIS TONGUE FROM EVIL, AND HIS LIPS FROM SPEAKING DECEIT.
11 LET HIM TURN AWAY FROM EVIL AND DO GOOD; LET HIM SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT.
Verses 10, 11, and 12 are taken from Psalm 34:12-16. The first part of verse 10, “HE WHO WOULD LOVE LIFE AND SEE GOOD DAYS”, is telling us that if we walk in God’s righteousness we will see good days and love life. Verse 10 and 11 also gives us a recipe for a happy life and blessings from God:
1.    Speak right – Speak helpful words to other.
2.    Do right – Do good deeds to others.
3.    Live right – Live at peace with others.
Doesn’t this recipe fit in with the second greatest command from Jesus, Love thy neighbor as thy self? So here again we have the NT reinforcing what is in the OT and vice versa. Everything in the OT is restated in the NT but with different words. If a person knows their Bible they will pick up on these links between the old and new no matter what part of the Bible they are reading. It is part of studying and seeking the truth of God.
12 FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE ON THE RIGHTEOUS, AND HIS EARS ARE OPEN TO THEIR PRAYERS; BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL."
This verse also makes a statement that some may find hard to accept, that is, God hears the cries of His children, but not necessarily of the unsaved. A saved person is part of God’s family and God will hear the prayers and requests of His children before that of the unsaved. This also reinforces the last phrase in verse seven above.
It is just like a mother or father, they will cater to their children’s needs over the needs of a child of another family, so it is no different with God taking care of His children. He watches over those that love Him and have their faith what Jesus did for them on the altar of the Cross. He is the Great Shepherd and watches over His sheep for their good to see that their needs are met. His face is turned against the unrighteous. He harkens to the cries of the righteous; His ears are open to their cries for help; He gladly hears their prayers and promptly sends them help.
13 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good?
Peter is making a statement here that if you are a follower of Jesus (Born Again), He will protect you and see you through the trials and tribulations of life here on earth. It is all about faith in Jesus through knowledge and wisdom of why Jesus had to die on the Cross, be raised from the dead three days later, and believe that He now sits at the right hand of God the Father.

In Jesus name I pray Amen.”
