Proverbs 10:19-32
19  When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.
20  The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value.
21  The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment.
22  The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.
23  A fool finds pleasure in evil conduct, but a man of understanding delights in wisdom.
24  What the wicked dreads will overtake him; what the righteous desire will be granted.
25  When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.
26  As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is a sluggard to those who send him.
27  The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.
28  The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
29  The way of the LORD is a refuge for the righteous, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.
30  The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land.
31  The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out.
32  The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse.
Father God, I ask that you touch the hearts of people during this season that we celebrate your Resurrection and that people will place their faith in you and not a religion. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Gospel of John 3:1-3 NKJV
This week’s lesson and the next couple are in my opinion the most important verses in the Bible because Jesus tells us what we must do to become a child of God and go to Heaven when we physically die. There are denominations that tell you to practice this ritual or that ceremony, do this and that, but Jesus tells us we must be Born Again by faith in Him and only that to go to Heaven. I for one believe what Jesus says and forsake all of man’s formulas for salvation.
1  Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council.
Now there was a man of the Pharisees; The Pharisees were the most numerous and wealthy sect of the Jews. They derived their name from the Hebrew word Pharash, which signifies to set apart, or to separate, because they separated themselves from the rest of their countrymen, and professedly devoted themselves to special strictness in religion. Their leading system of belief were the following: that the world was governed by fate, or by a fixed decree of God; that the souls of men were immortal, and were either eternally happy or miserable beyond the grave; that the dead would be raised; that there were angels, good and bad; that God was under obligation to bestow special favor on the Jews; and that they were justified by their own conformity to the law. They were proud, haughty, self-righteous, and held the common people in great disrespect. They sought the offices of the state, and affected great dignity. They were showy in their religious worship, praying on the corners of the streets, and seeking publicity in the bestowment of alms. They sought principally external cleanliness, and dealt much in ceremonial washings of themselves and utensils.
They maintained some of the laws of Moses very strictly. In addition to the written laws, they held to a multitude which they maintained had come down from Moses by tradition. These they felt themselves as much bound to observe as the written Law. Under the influence of these laws they washed themselves before meals with great thoroughness; they fasted twice a week, on Thursday, when they supposed that Moses ascended Mount Sinai, and on Monday, when he descended; they wore broad phylacteries, and enlarged the fringe or borders of their garments; they loved the chief rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues. In general, they were a corrupt, hypocritical, office-seeking, haughty class of men. There are, however, some honorable exceptions recorded, Acts 5:34; Mark 15:43; Luke 2:25; Luke 23:51; John 19:38-42; John 3:1; John 7:50.
Named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council; One of the “Sanhedrin,” or great council of the nation. He is mentioned two other times in this Gospel of John; in the first instance as advocating Jesus cause, and defending Him against the unjust suspicion of the Jews John 7:50, and in the second instance as one who came to aid in the burial of Jesus body, John 19:39. Nicodemus was said to be one of the three richest men in Jerusalem.
2  He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
He came to Jesus at night; Nicodemus came to Jesus in the dark of night and there are several speculations as to why. It could be that he was afraid to be seen conversing with Jesus in the daylight; or maybe there was such a crowd around Jesus all the time during the day he couldn’t have a conversation with Him; or maybe being one of the head rulers of the Sanhedrin he was so busy during the day he couldn’t get away and talk with Jesus; based on the rest of this verse Nicodemus may have seen some of the miracles and listened to some of the teachings of Jesus and his spirit was directing him to seek Jesus with his heart and not his mind. (Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.) We don’t know why exactly he came at night.
And said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God; The class distinction in Israel was great at this time. Considering the fact Jesus was a Peasant and for Nicodemus a member of the Sanhedrin to come to Jesus at all, shows that he had been greatly moved by the things Jesus had said and the Miracles performed. However, in no way does he recognize Jesus as the Messiah, but rather a “Teacher,” and that He is of God, and more particularly has “Come from God.”
By the use of the pronoun “we,” it is most probable that Nicodemus represented other members of the Sanhedrin.
For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him; Nicodemus had this phrase 100% correct. Miracles show that a prophet or religious teacher comes from God by the power to work a miracle, a true miracle.
As Christians we have to be aware of things that may seem to be a miracle, but in reality it could be deception to get one to believe and follow a false teacher or religion. Do be aware Satan can perform miracles also. He is a great deceiver and that is why we must know God’s Word so that we can discern the deception from the truth. Our world is filled with deception at the present time. Just use the upcoming elections as an example. Exodus 7:11  Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: Matthew 7:22  Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 2 Thessalonians 2:9  The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders. Revelation 13:11-15  Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon.  12  He exercised all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed.  13  And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men.  14  Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.  15  He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.
3  In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
In reply Jesus declare; This reply that Jesus gives Nicodemus must have cause him to express a huge facial expression in the form of a question mark and possibly saying, “what”? Jesus replied the way He did because Jesus saw Nicodemus heart and knew he was there to dispute His teaching or seeking salvation. Jesus got right to the point to clarify what was spinning around in Nicodemus mind.
“I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”; The Kingdom of God is personal, not national or ethnic or denominational, and its entrance requirements are repentance and spiritual rebirth. Nicodemus along with the Sanhedrin and the Jewish people believed that since they were of Jewish descent and practiced the law they were bound for Heaven and all that didn’t practice their beliefs and laws were bound for Hell. So this Born Again thing Jesus is speaking of probably baffled Nicodemus greatly, because Jesus is telling him he is no better than the Gentiles. It is a wonder Nicodemus didn’t turn around and run out the door he came in. The fact that he didn’t, shows us that he was an open minded individual about religion and seeking the Kingdom of God. We as individuals must also be open minded like Nicodemus when it comes to salvation, because what we have been taught as we grew up may not be true, it may be false manmade doctrine that sounds really good to our ego. We need to verify what we believe according to Bible verses.
All men, meaning male and female, are sinners, actually having been born in sin, which is referred to by many as “original sin.” This was brought about due to the Fall of man in the Garden of Eden.
The term, “born again,” means that man has already had a natural birth, but now must have a Spiritual Birth, which comes by Faith in Christ, and is available to all (John 3:16; Revelation 22:17).
This Spiritual Birth is totally of God, and not by mans work of rituals, customs, heritage, denominational religion, etc. This means that man’s good works, religious rituals, and ceremonies, play no part whatsoever in the “born-again” experience. Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by Grace are ye saved through Faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the Gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast”
Do you think Jesus made this statement about Born Again to avoid and divert Nicodemus thoughts away from the traditional religion that Nicodemus believed in? Was Nicodemus there to dispute some of Jesus teachings? If he was, Jesus took control of the inquisitive visit and really gave Nicodemus something to think about. Jesus immediately stopped the religious discussion that was about to happen by telling this most religious man and professed Believer that he was so sinful, so hopelessly corrupt and fallen, as to be incapable of reformation, and so darkened morally that he could neither recognize nor experience a spiritual birth from above. This fundamental Truth is detestable to man, for it humbles him.
“Despite being one of the rulers in Israel as a member of the Sanhedrin, and, consequently, extremely religious, I think the evidence shows that this “good man” was lost. To be sincere is not necessarily to be saved! Multiple hundreds of millions, as Nicodemus, think surely their place and position in life, and especially if they are overly religious, afford them Salvation. However, Jesus completely shot all of these things down, proclaiming in no uncertain terms, that they affected nothing towards one’s Salvation. To be saved, one must be “born again.”
To experience a Spiritual Birth, as we shall see, one must be “born from above.”
This spiritual rebirth which man must experience, does not come through any natural process. God is the Actor or Person Who effects the New Birth in those who believe and receive the Son (John 1:12–13). The New Birth makes us Children of God and leads to moral transformation. A glorious change is effected!
For instance, one who is born of God does what is right, (what is Scriptural) (I John  2:29). While the Believer may at times fail, no one born of God “Keeps on sinning,” or rather “Practices sin.” God’s Life is planted within our reborn personality (I John 3:6, 9; 5:18).
Another expression of the New Life we receive from God is found in our love for one another (I John 4:7; 5:1–2). Love and purity of life are sure to follow New Birth, for God’s Own Life swells within the twice born. We who have become God’s Children through Faith are destined to grow into Jesus’ Likeness, for that is the purpose of the New Birth.
The phrase, “He cannot see the Kingdom of God,” actually means that without the New Birth, one cannot understand or comprehend the “Kingdom of God.”
This is the reason that those who are truly born again, have a completely different world view than those who aren’t. The Believer sees things through the Word of God, and judges accordingly. He knows and understands, or certainly should, the Plan of God for the human family, and the entirety of this world for that matter. The Believer knows that the present scheme of things is temporal. He knows the world is in rebellion against God, and is filled with evil because of that rebellion. He knows the only answer is Jesus Christ.
In this realm of Salvation, afforded by God, brought about by Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Believer knows Jesus is coming again, and will ultimately rule the world (Revelation Chapter 19).” (JSM)
We will continue this discussion of a Spiritual Birth next week.

Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe it with your heart, Jesus will save you!
“Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and have faith you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and lead me in a new life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.”

Proverbs 9:10-18
10  "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11  For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you.
12  If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you will bear it alone."
13  A foolish woman is clamorous; She is simple, and knows nothing.
14  For she sits at the door of her house, On a seat by the highest places of the city,
15  To call to those who pass by, Who go straight on their way:
16  "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here"; And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
17  "Stolen water is sweet, And bread eaten in secret is pleasant."
18  But he does not know that the dead are there, That her guests are in the depths of hell.
Father God, I ask that you touch the hearts of people to know, understand, and live the truth of your Holy Word. Expose the truth of twisted scripture to people so they will change their ways. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Gospel of John 2:13-25 NKJV
This week’s lesson is about the first Passover Jesus attended at the beginning of His ministry. We learn about two kinds of anger, disrespect of God’s House, zeal for God and righteousness, Jesus death and resurrection pertaining to the temple of His body, and that Jesus can see what faith our heart is in.
13  Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
The Passover celebration took place yearly at the Temple in Jerusalem. Every Jewish male was expected to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem during this time (Deuteronomy 16:16). This was a week-long festival—the Passover was one day, and the Festival of Unleavened Bread lasted the rest of the week. The entire week commemorated the freeing of the Jews from slavery in Egypt (Exodus 12:1-13).
I wonder how Jesus felt going to the Passover knowing that the majority of those that would be there were only there because they were expected to be there; it was a custom of heritage? You can tell by the following verses that it was no longer a holy and sacred occasion. Man had changed it from a God Festival to a man made Jewish Festival. This still holds true today in religions, man devises doctrine and rituals that they deem good, but is not supported by God’s Word.
14  And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business.
Have you ever thought why animal merchants and money changers were allowed in the temple area? There were thousands of out of town people that came to worship during the Passover. These people were to bring an animal to sacrifice and also money to give for the upkeep of the temple. Many of these people didn’t have an animal to bring or maybe the one they brought had a blemish on it and was not worthy, so they would buy an animal for the sacrifice. The religious leaders thought it would be a good idea to have animals for sale right there in the temple.
The money that was to be given for the upkeep of the temple had to be the money used in Jerusalem, so the travelers had to get their money exchanged. Those that sold animals and exchanged money profited greatly. It was a prosperous time for them. Not only for them but very probable the religious leaders also since they made this possible and promoted it. So here we see the effects of the sin of greed over holiness. The religious leaders did not seem to care that the Court of the Gentiles was so full of merchants that foreigners found it difficult to worship. And worship was the main purpose for visiting the Temple. No wonder Jesus was angry!
15  When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers' money and overturned the tables.
With this verse we have one of several examples by Jesus of what righteous anger is and that it is justified when it pertains to sin and injustice toward God. Jesus made a whip and chased out the money changers and the sheep and oxen merchants because they were disgracing His Father’s house of worship. Jesus was justified in displaying anger because it was in defense of His Father. There is a difference between uncontrolled anger or personal anger of trivial matters and Godly righteous anger, yet both are called anger. We must be very careful how we use the powerful emotion of anger and not sin through anger.
God's Temple was being misused by people who had turned it into a marketplace. They had forgotten, or didn't care, that God's house is a place of worship, not a place for making a profit. Our attitude toward the church is wrong if we see it as a place for personal contacts or business advantage. We shall attend church to worship God.
16  And He said to those who sold doves, "Take these things away! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!"
The previous verse states that Jesus “drove them all out of the temple, “the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers' money and overturned the tables”. This verse tells us that Jesus told those that sold doves to take them out of the temple. We envision in our mind that Jesus pushed over the tables of doves, the crates were broken, and the doves flew away, but in reality based on this verse He told the merchants to remove the doves. It wasn’t the transactions being made but the location of where the transactions were being made. He knew people would need to be purchasing the doves so He just told them to get them out of His Father’s house.
17  Then His disciples remembered that it was written, "ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE HAS EATEN ME UP."
Then His disciples remembered that it was written; This is recorded in Psalms 69:9 Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up, And the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me. Its meaning is, that he was affected with great zeal or concern for the pure worship of God.
ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE; “Zeal” is intense passion in reference to any object. The “zeal of thine house” means extraordinary concern for the temple of God; intense solicitude that the worship there should be pure, and such as God would approve.
HAS EATEN ME UP; Has absorbed me, or engaged my entire attention and affection; has surpassed all other feelings, so that it may be said to be the one great yearning of the heart. Here is an example for ministers and all Christians. Jesus zeal was to please His Father and uphold all that His Father endorsed. In this demonstration of zeal Jesus began and ended His ministry. It is the called duty of ministers to purify the church of God. Conscience-smitten wicked mankind, will tremble when they see proper zeal in the ministers of Jesus Christ; and there is no combination of wicked men, and no form of depravity, that can stand before the faithful, zealous, pure preaching of the Gospel. The preaching of every minister should be such that soul lost mankind will feel that they must either become Christians or leave the house of God, or spend their lives there in the consciousness of guilt and the fear of hell. Ministers of God are called to bring conviction upon people through preaching to bring the lost to the foot of the Cross in repentance and receiving Jesus into their heart to rule and reign their lives.
18  So the Jews answered and said to Him, "What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?"
With this verse the scene changes and the so called religious leaders turn on Jesus because He had destroyed what they had built thinking it was good; their good. Why didn’t they arrest Jesus right then and there because of Him cleansing the temple? Were they afraid of him? The answer lies in the word “sign”. These leaders were already aware of Jesus authority by the way He taught and also the miracles He had already performed, so they were asking for a sign to prove who He was. The sad part being is that He did tell them in verse 16 but they didn’t hear or believe when He said, “My Father’s House”. They knew of the Miracles Moses had performed and also those of other prophets. Were they thinking Jesus was a prophet and not the Son of God?
19  Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple; The Jews understood Jesus to mean the Temple which he had cleansed. This was the Temple Zerubbabel had built over 500 years earlier, but Herod the Great had begun remodeling it, making it much larger and far more beautiful. It had been 46 years since this remodeling had started (20 B.C.), and it still wasn't completely finished. They understood Jesus' words to mean that this grand building could be torn down and rebuilt in three days, but He was referring to His flesh and blood being destroyed by death on the Cross.
And in three days I will raise it up; The three days Jesus is referring to here is His resurrection to life, after being laid in a grave for three days. What a great sign this would be for those questioning Him if they could only believe in who He was. No other human being has the power to raise themselves up after death. Only God through power of His Spirit can do such a thing.
20  Then the Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?"
21  But He was speaking of the temple of His body.
The Jews frequently perverted Jesus meaning. Their response was one of sarcasm. Because of the Jews unbelief, Jesus spoke in parables and/or metaphors, so he often left them to their own delusions. Matthew 13:13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
This was a situation which they might have believed, if they had been willing. Because they were in the temple; the conversation was about the temple; and though he possibly pointed to his body, or designated it in some plain way, they chose to understand him as referring to the temple building itself; and as it appeared so improbable that he could raise up that in three days, they sought to pervert his words and pour ridicule on his pretensions.
22  Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.
Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; This saying I’m sure baffled the disciple at the time Jesus uttered these words, but after Jesus rose from the dead these words came alive by the power of the Holy Spirit. At the time when Jesus stated, “destroy this temple and I will raise it up in three days,” the disciples didn’t realize that they had stored these words in the back of their minds for future reference.
We learn from this the importance of treasuring up the truths of the Bible now, though we may not perfectly understand them, but in the future they may be plain to us. It is therefore important that children, should learn the truths of the sacred Scriptures so they can treasure them up in their memory. They may not be understood at the time, but in the future they may be clear to them. Everyone engaged in teaching CCD, Sunday school, and even adult Bible Study, may be imparting instruction which may be understood, and may impart comfort long after the teacher has gone to eternity.
And they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said; After Jesus rose from the dead they recalled and believed the words Jesus said. The OT predicted His resurrection, see these reference verses Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:27-32; Acts 13:35-37. They understood those Scriptures in a sense different from what they did before. After Jesus resurrection the scriptures came alive.
23  Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did.
These miracles are not recorded that He performed. Jesus took occasion to work miracles, and to preach at that time, for a great multitude was present from all parts of Judea. It was a favorable opportunity for making known His doctrine and showing that he was the Christ, and he embraced it. We should always seek and embrace opportunities of spreading the Gospel, and we should not be deterred, but rather excited, by the multitude around us to make known our real sentiments on the subject of the Gospel.
24  But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men,
The word “commit”, as it is used here is the same which is used in John 2:23. It is translated as “to believe.” It means to put trust or confidence in. Jesus did not put trust or reliance in the people that they believed. He did not leave Himself in their hands. He acted cautiously and prudently. The proper time for Him to die had not come, and He secured his own safety. The reason why He did not commit Himself to them is that He knew all men; their heart. He knew the infidelity and fickleness of the multitude. He knew how easily they might be turned against Him by the Jewish leaders, and how unsafe He would be if they should be moved to agitation and uproar.
25  and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.
Basically what verse 24 & 25 are saying is that Jesus was very cautious at this Passover and choose His words wisely so as not to cause dissention and the Jewish leaders to capture Him and put Him to death then, because Jesus ministry was just starting and His time had not yet come. Jesus knew the hearts of each and everyone there.
The Son of God knows all about human nature. Jesus was well aware of the truth of Jeremiah 17:9, which states, "The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?Jesus was discerning, and he knew that the faith of some followers was superficial. Some of the same people claiming to believe in Jesus at this time would later yell "Crucify him!" It's easy to believe when everyone else is excited and believes the same way. But to keep your faith firm even when it isn't popular to follow Christ, is the true challenge!
None can deceive Jesus, He knows the wants and desires of all His Born Again Saints. He hears their groans, he sees their sighs, he counts their tears, and in the day of need will come to their relief.
Jesus knows all about you, your past, present, and future actions and thoughts. Due to the fall of Adam and the result of each and every human being born on earth the sin nature is inherited. It is because of this sin nature that we sin and can’t help but not sin. This is why we need Jesus in our life because no matter how hard we try we will fail and sin. When we repent of our lifestyle (Meaning we don’t want to live that way anymore.) and accept Jesus we get a blood transfusion. Our blood is replaced with the shed blood of Jesus and then when God looks at us all He sees is His Sons Blood. Next week we will learn about the process of being Born Again.

Proverbs 9:1-9
1  Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;
2  She has slaughtered her meat, She has mixed her wine, She has also furnished her table.
3  She has sent out her maidens, She cries out from the highest places of the city,
4  "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!" As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
5  "Come, eat of my bread And drink of the wine I have mixed.
6  Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of understanding.
7  "He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
8  Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9  Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
Father God, I ask that you touch the hearts of people to know, understand, and live the truth of your Holy Word. Expose the truth of twisted scripture to people so they will change their ways. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Gospel of John 2:6-12 NKJV
With this lesson we study the first miracle that Jesus performed in public. It was a miracle to show his divine power over creation, to strengthen the faith of the first of the disciples that were with Him, to touch the hearts of those that didn’t know who He was, and to start His ministry.
6  Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece.
Now there were set there six waterpots of stone; Do you suppose there is a reason the water containers were mention especially “six” and “stone”? Why didn’t John just say water containers? In studying this phrase out here is what I found. The number “six” represents the number of man, and man always falls short of perfection. Seven is called God’s number, and represents perfection. God finished making the Universe on the seventh day and rested. The Universe was perfect at that time, but man corrupted the Earth with the fall of Adam.
The stone water pots signify the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments which man cannot keep, and the water in the pots represent the Jews tradition of washing.
So how does this all tie together you ask? It all started on stone, God’s Law. Before Moses could present the first tablets of stone the Israelites fell into sin by making and worshipping a golden calf, which proves no matter how hard we try we fall short of God’s glory. We always take things into our own hands instead of turning to Jesus. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. As a result of the stone tablets came ceremonial laws produced by man. So with six representing corrupt mankind, the stone jars representing God’s Laws that we can’t keep on our own, and the water was used symbolically by the Jews to wash away the corruptness of the world you ask, how does this relate to the wedding feast, it doesn’t it is all about what the Israelites had their faith in, law and not God.
All the laws of the OT was to point the Israelites in the right direction toward God, but they got so involved with trying to keep the laws they failed in placing their faith in God. This is still true today, some denominations teach that if you do this and that you are right with God and will go to Heaven which is false teachings. It is only through faith in Jesus Christ and why He died on the Cross for us is what counts.
According to the manner of purification of the Jews, Containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece; The six stone water jars were normally used for ceremonial washing. According to the Jews' ceremonial law, people became symbolically unclean by touching objects of everyday life. Before eating, the Jews would pour water over their hands to cleanse themselves of any bad influences associated with what they had touched. Matthew 15:2 "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread." Luke 11:39 Then the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees make the outside of the cup and dish clean, but your inward part is full of greed and wickedness. Mark 7:3 For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders.
So, if the True Law of Moses could not save, how did these little insignificant man-devised religious laws, symbolized by the water pots, pertain to salvation?
7  Jesus said to them, "Fill the waterpots with water." And they filled them up to the brim.
Jesus said to them, "Fill the waterpots with water."; Why didn’t Jesus and His disciples fill the water pots with water? It was so there would be no deception. The filling was done by the servants employed at the feast. It was done by “them,” so that there might be no opportunity of saying that the disciples of Jesus had filled them with wine to produce the “appearance” of a miracle. In this case there could be no deception. The quantity was very considerable. The servants would know whether the “wine” or “water” had been put in these vessels.
And they filled them up to the brim; Here again they were filled to the brim to avoid any accusations of something other than water being put in them, so full that no wine could be poured in to give the appearance of a mixture. These water vessels were used for this miracle in particular because no wine had been kept in them. These pots were never used to put wine in, but simply to keep water in for the purpose of the Jewish ritual of washing. A large number was used on this occasion, because there were many guests.
8  And He said to them, "Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast." And they took it.
And He said to them, "Draw some out now; This command was given to the servants immediately showing the miracle had already taken place. As soon as they were filled the servants were directed to take a sample to the master of the feast. Jesus made no spectacle about it, and it does not even appear that he approached the water pots and performed some kind of prayer or motion over the pots. He willed it, and it was done just like He created the Universe. This was a clear exertion of divine power, and made in such a manner as to leave no doubt of its reality.
And take it to the master of the feast." And they took it; The Master of the Feast was the one who presided over the occasion. He would be the one standing at the head or upper end of the table. He was in charge of the entertainment, provided the food, and gave directions to the servants, etc.
9  When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.
With what we have learned so far can we assume that the Master of the Feast knew they were going to run out of wine? I think we can because he was in charge of the occasion. It is very possible that he had sent a servant out to secure some more wine from the bridegroom’s inventory. This is why the servant brought a sample to the Master to taste it and see if it was worthy to give to the guests. The Master of the Feast had a lot at stake here; his future as a feast master and also great embarrassment to the bridegroom.
This verse and the next one support last week’s lesson that the wine being referred to here is high quality grape juice and not intoxicating wine.
We have all tasted grape juice and know there is a vast difference in the taste. Take Welch’s Grape juice compared to other brands of grape juice. My preference is Welch’s because of its rich sweet taste and that is what Jesus made a rich smooth sweet wine like it was fresh off the vine.
10  And he said to him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!"
And he said to him, Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine; This was a custom of a wedding feast to set out the good wine first. This was to show the guests that nothing but the best for the occasion of celebrating such an occasion as a wedding and new life. The best was always given first and if more was needed, the second best will be provided, that is if available. The Master was amazed because this rule did not seem to have been followed. But of course he was wrong, it was followed.
And when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior; The words, “well drunk,” simply mean they had “drank freely,” and not that they were drunk, as some supposed. It means when they have drunk sufficient to glut or to satisfy to the fullest; or have drunk and eaten so much as to destroy the keenness of their taste, so that they could not readily distinguish the good from that which was worse.
For example we all have experienced at Holiday time that state of overeating like Thanksgiving. The first plate full tastes so wonderful we want more and go back for a second plateful only to discover it is not as tasty as the first, and this is what the Master of the Feast is referring to.
There is no evidence that our Saviour, the sacred writer of this Gospel, nor the feast speaker here expresses any approval of intemperance, nor is there the least evidence that anything of the kind occurred here. As stated last week Jesus and the Apostles would be contradicting themselves if this wine Jesus made was fermented wine, and contributed in any way, shape, or form of drunkenness.
You have kept the good wine until now!; This “good wine” of excellent quality can also be a representation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ which goes to the sinner (Taste and see the goodness of the Lord). An unsaved person has little understanding pertaining to salvation and, above all, the Miracle that will take place in their lives when they partake of the Wine of Salvation. In fact, every Salvation experience is a Miracle, and undoubtedly the greatest Miracle of all. Psalms 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Just as the wine Jesus made was the “good wine”, so life in him is better than life on our own. Why wait until everything else runs out before trying God? Why save the best until last?
11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee; This miracle was an exertion of divine power, producing a change of the substance of water into wine, which no human power could do. This miracle showed His power over nature. This was the first of many that Jesus performed.
Miracles are not merely superhuman events, but events that demonstrate God's power. Almost every miracle Jesus did was a renewal of fallen creation; restoring sight, making the lame walk, even restoring life to the dead. Believe in Christ not because he is a superman but because he is the God who continues his creation, even in those of us who are poor, weak, crippled, orphaned, blind, deaf, or with some other desperate need.
And manifested His glory; Meaning this miracle showed or exhibited His divine power over creation. This is shown to be a real miracle by the following considerations: (1)          Real water was placed in the vessels. This the servants saw and believed, there was no possibility of deception. (2) The water was placed where it was not customary to keep wine. It could not be pretended that it was merely a mixture of water and wine. (3) It was judged to be wine without knowing where it came from. There was no agreement between Jesus and the Master of the feast deceive the guests. (4) It was a change which nothing but divine power could achieve. He that can change water into a substance like the juice of the grape must be clothed with divine power.
And His disciples believed in Him; This does not mean that they did not believe in Him beforehand, but that their faith was confirmed or strengthened. They saw a miracle, and it satisfied them that He was the Messiah. “Before this” they “believed” on the testimony of John, and from conversation with Jesus John 1:35-51; now they saw that he was invested with almighty power, and their faith was established.
12  After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.
After this He went down to Capernaum; Capernaum became Jesus' home base during his ministry in Galilee. Located on a major trade route, it was an important city in the region, with a Roman garrison and a customs station. At Capernaum, Matthew was called to be a disciple (Matthew 9:9). The city was also the home of several other disciples (Matthew 4:13-19) and a high-ranking government official (John 4:46). It had at least one major synagogue. Although Jesus made this city his base of operations in Galilee, he condemned it for the people's unbelief (Matthew 11:23; Luke 10:15).
He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; Here it mentions Jesus mother and brothers but no mention of His sisters or Joseph. Probably at this time His sisters were married and with their husbands, and Joseph was deceased.
And they did not stay there many days; The reason their stay was short was because the Passover was soon to start, and they went up to Jerusalem to attend it.
These verses are disputed often of whether the wine Jesus created was grape juice or fermented wine. As stated last week wine comes in many different forms not just alcoholic wine, it is your prerogative to choose what you want to believe in, but before you make that decision, think about what Jesus would do, promote drunkenness or sobriety? Here are some Bible verses referring to the many forms of wine: Genesis 49:11 Binding his donkey to the vine, And his donkey's colt to the choice vine, He washed his garments in wine, And his clothes in the blood of grapes. Isaiah 16:10 Gladness is taken away, And joy from the plentiful field; In the vineyards there will be no singing, Nor will there be shouting; No treaders will tread out wine in the presses; I have made their shouting cease. Isaiah 24:7 The new wine fails, the vine languishes, All the merry-hearted sigh. The new wine languisheth - The new wine (תירושׁ  tı̂yrôsh), denotes properly must, or wine that was newly expressed from the grape, and that was not fermented, usually translated ‘new wine,’ or ‘sweet wine.’ The expression here is poetic. The wine languishes or mourns because there are none to drink it; it is represented as grieved because it does not perform its usual office of exhilarating the heart, and the figure is thus an image of the desolation of the land. Isaiah 27:2 In that day sing to her, "A vineyard of red wine! Isaiah 65:8 Thus says the LORD: "As the new wine is found in the cluster, And one says, 'Do not destroy it, For a blessing is in it,' So will I do for My servants' sake, That I may not destroy them all.

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
