Psalms 101:1-8 A Psalm of David. I will sing of mercy and justice; To You, O LORD, I will sing praises. I will behave wisely in a perfect way. Oh, when will You come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know wickedness. Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, Him I will destroy; The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not endure. My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, That they may dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way, He shall serve me. He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence. Early I will destroy all the wicked of the land, That I may cut off all the evildoers from the city of the LORD.
Father God you are the Alpha and Omega! Through you, and Jesus your Son, we are able to live. I pray and ask that you make a new person in all that read these lessons, and everyone comes with a contrite heart and gives it to your Son Jesus for eternal life. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Revelation 6:1-8 NKJV
This chapter begins with the opening of the Seven Seals. As mentioned before the Tribulation Period is portrayed in Chapters 6-19. This is the beginning of the judgment that will be poured out upon the earth after the Rapture takes place. It begins with four horsemen and what will take place during this timeframe. Why do we have horses in the scene with the introduction of the woes of the Tribulation? It is because horses played an important part in battles of ancient times. The people in John’s day held the horse in high regards when it came to conquering other nations. The more horses an army would have aided in a swift take over. Horses are always mentioned in connection to battles; war horses, chariots, knights, etc. We find God’s description of the horse in Job 39:19-25 "Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with thunder?  20 Can you frighten him like a locust? His majestic snorting strikes terror.  21 He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength; He gallops into the clash of arms.  22 He mocks at fear, and is not frightened; Nor does he turn back from the sword.  23 The quiver rattles against him, The glittering spear and javelin.  24 He devours the distance with fierceness and rage; Nor does he come to a halt because the trumpet has sounded.  25 At the blast of the trumpet he says, 'Aha!' He smells the battle from afar, The thunder of captains and shouting.
So with the introduction of the Tribulation it is only fitting that this period be introduced by the appearance of men on horses. With the use of horses, riders, and color it symbolizes what Satan will orchestrate during the Tribulation. After all the Holy Spirit is removed from the earth and there is nothing to restrict Satan at this time to wage war on the earth. These first eight verses represent what will happen during the seven year Tribulation.
1 Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, "Come and see."
The lamb of course is Jesus Christ, He is the only one worthy to open the seals because he defeated death and is the everlasting light for all that chose to follow Him. We know at this time who the four living creatures are based on past lessons, but what about the phrase, “Come and See”? Some theologians think the living creature is calling the first horseman out and sending him upon the earth, but I don’t see it this way based on studying this out. The living creature is calling John over to look at the scroll. These horsemen and the color of the horses are symbolic of what will take place during the Tribulation. Each of these horses and riders are recorded in the scroll.
2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.
Many think a person on a white horse depicts a hero someone that will save the day by defeating all the bad guys. Some think this white horse and person is Jesus and get confused with the description of the image painted in our minds with the rider on a white horse in Chapter 19:11-16 This rider is none other than the Antichrist that will rise up in the Middle East to go out and conquer many nations. He is described here by John and we can see in the picture this rider appears to be a good person and that is exactly how he will appear when he rises up. He will be someone of eloquent speech, charisma, well known, good looking to appeal to humanistic standards of leadership, an established leader, someone that can tickle the ears of women and men of all ages, etc. He will win the hearts of people around the world and sign a seven year peace treaty with Israel and surrounding nations, supposedly guaranteeing them peace and protection, but midway through the Tribulation (3 ½ years) this covenant will be broken. (This is prophesized in the book of Daniel. Daniel 9:27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.") He will be a hero, but after these things happen and he becomes ruler over 10 nations, things will change because he is controlled by Satan. Mid way through the Tribulation things will turn ugly and war will be waged against God’s people the Jews.
This is why he is pictured on a white horse and appears to be a good guy. He will be a deceiver, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He wants to get people of all nations to trust and believe what he says and does so they will follow him to destruction. This is why he has a bow with no arrows, it’s a time if peace to win people over to his side and his way of thinking. He is not declaring war, at least in the beginning, but peace.
His crown represents the leader that he will become over 10 nations, the once Roman Empire. In the beginning he will win the hearts of these nations, conquer, and rule over them. Look at the four horses and riders, to follow any would result in Spiritual Death.

3 When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, "Come and see."
4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.
This next horse was red and this symbolism cannot be mistaken. Just as the white horse denoted prosperity, triumph, and happiness, this red horse denote carnage, discord, and bloodshed. This is clear, not only from the red nature of the horse, but from the explanation of the rest of the verse; “And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.” This proclaims the beginning of the Antichrist’s real intentions. The evidence is that he will first of all attack Egypt, and Israel will come later, as he turns on her with a fury. The book of Daniel gives us information about this verse. Daniel 11:40-43 "At the time of the end the king of the South (Refers to Egypt, because that’s who is referred to at the beginning of Chapter 11 in Daniel, which speaks of the breakup of the Grecian Empire.) shall attack him; and the king of the North (Meaning Syria, so more than likely the Antichrist will rise up from Syria because of the breakup of the Grecian Empire spoken of in Daniel. It is possible the Antichrist could be a Syrian Jew) shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through.  41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, (meaning Israel) and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. (These countries comprise modern day Jordan and ancient Petra is located within Jordan. Revelation 12:6) 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt (King of the South) shall not escape.  43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels. (With the Antichrist being controlled and powered by Satan, ancient mysteries of Egypt will be revealed, regarding the tombs, the pyramids, etc.)
This rider is of an evil nature as is his horse. The picture portrays this very well. A great sword signifies a time of great killing. More than we can imagine possibly billions. Matthew 24:7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come and see." So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand.
6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine."
This black horse and rider depict a time of famine which will undoubtedly take place in the first half of the Tribulation (3 ½ years). The pair of scales indicates a scarcity of food and the measuring out of what food there is available. If one has no money they will receive no food. This rider portrays famine very well by his appearance of skin and bones. This famine will be one of such magnitude that it is beyond comprehension.
A denarius was a Roman silver coin (Referred to as a penny in the KJV.), in the time of our Saviour and the Apostles, worth about 15 cents. It took its name from its being first equal to ten "asses," a number afterwards, increased to sixteen. It was the principal silver coin of the Roman commonwealth. From the parable of the laborers in the vineyard, it would seem that a denarius was then the ordinary pay for a day's labor.
This time period is one which will require a day’s wage to purchase food for one person to live on for one day.
Black is often times regarded as a symbol of severe famine. With the distress and calamity of the rider of the red horse, famine, pestilence, oppression, heavy taxation, and tyranny will follow. Lamentations 5:10 Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.
What about the phrase, “do not harm the oil and the wine”? What could this possibly mean? This is a very good question and there are many interpretations like not trampling the grape vines and destroying the olive trees, or it represents wealthy people having money to by what is needed, or a command from God not to place anymore distress on His children, the Jews represented by oil or saved Gentiles represented by wine. None of these makes any sense nor does anything else that I studied. If you look at the verse in its entirety it is speaking of death by starvation so it is crops like grains, vegetables, and fruits that support life. Not just our life, but also animal life which produce protein and dairy products we consume. What do the five food groups consist of? Dairy, cereal, meat, fruits, and vegetables; can we live without them? Are any of these the meaning of this phrase? My spirit tells me no so I’m going to continue to seek the meaning of this phrase and when it is revealed to me, I will pass it on to you.

Vegetables

Fruits

Grains

                       Dairy                                                       Protein

7 When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, "Come and see."

8 So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.
This pale horse signifies death. The word “pale” in the Greek is “chloros,” meaning “pale-green, yellowish-green”. This color would be an appropriate color to denote death, one of the most striking effects of death is paleness.
The name of the rider is Death and is fitting for the color of the horse, but did you notice this horse and rider are followed by Hades. Go back and look at the picture and notice the flames of Hell following them. What could this mean? Remember God’s people have all been Raptured up to Heaven when this is all taking place here on earth. Those remaining on earth are unbelievers. They have rejected Jesus and the Cross. Hades is following close behind because those that die will be going to Hell for eternity. (I will expound on this next week.) There will be millions dying because of what this Death rider is allowed to do. That sounds like a lot, and it is, but the verse states ¼ of the earth will be affected. The area referred to here is basically the Middle East territory, taking in Northern Africa, and most, if not all, of Europe. We know this because this is the area of the old Roman Empire territory, which the Book of Daniel tells us will be the primary area of the Antichrist.
This last phrase coincides with (Matthew 24:7-8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.  8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.) and (Ezekiel 14:21 For thus says the Lord GOD: "How much more it shall be when I send My four severe judgments on Jerusalem—the sword and famine and wild beasts and pestilence—to cut off man and beast from it?)
Death will kill by four means, wars, starvation, death by diseases/pestilences, and beasts of the earth. The first two are pretty clear, but death would be referring to things like cancer, aids, Parkinson’s, drugs, alcohol; the list is extensive. I ask you, does it seem these things are on the rise?
What about the death by beast? When we think beast we think of a large creature, but what about a small beast that can reproduce at a tremendous rate and would carry many types of disease. What about a rat? Would it be possible for rats to multiply to a state of contributing to human death? One pair of rats can produce up to 72 little ones per year and they are capable of spreading Bubonic Plague. Hmmm?
It doesn’t sound like a time period I would want to be around for. God will remove His children with the Rapture and I have one question for you. If the Rapture happens tonight are you going up? If you’re not sure then get on your knees right now and tell Jesus you don’t want to live like you do anymore and ask Him into your life.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…...
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Psalms 100:1-5 A Psalm of Thanksgiving. Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
Father God you are Holy, True, Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent. We thank you for your love. Guide us and our loved ones through each day and cultivate our faith so that it will grow, blossom, and bear fruit. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Revelation 5:8-14 NKJV
Before we get started with this week’s lesson I want to go back to last week’s lesson and point something out that I missed. Have you ever noticed in the Bible that when situations in the lives of people of the Bible, or parables containing the number three or third, some type of deliverance seems to be the result. Just like Jesus rose on the third day to give us a chance to be delivered if we so desire. Rehab told the two spies to go hide in the mountain for three days and then go back to their people. Abraham and Isaac traveled three days to the place of sacrifice and Isaac was delivered from death on the third day. If you evaluate the situation whenever the Bible mentions three or third many times you will find deliverance and quite often those being delivered are favored by God.
This is exactly what has been brought to my attention with the scroll/book in God’s right hand that Jesus took from Him. There are three woes (Meaning three complete judgments of God.) and what these three woes consist of is seven judgments of God within each of the three woes. The first woe is the seven seals, the second woe is the seven trumpets, and the third woe is the seven bowls/vials. Seven represents completeness, and three deliverance of God’s people in this case.
The seventh seal introduces the first trumpet. Revelation 8:1-2 When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.  2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets.
The seventh trumpet introduces the first bowl/vial. Revelation 11:14-15 The second woe is past. Behold, the third woe is coming quickly. 15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!" Revelation 15:7 Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever.
The seventh bowl/vial introduces deliverance for God’s people that survive the Tribulation. So actually what is contained in the scroll/book of God’s right hand contains all the events from Revelation Chapter 6 through Chapter 19. The end of the third woe/judgment is the commencement of the battle of Armageddon when all of God’s people will be ushered into the Millennial Reign/Kingdom Age. All of evil meaning Satan, his band of demons and spirits, and sinful people will be removed from this earth. Revelation 19:16-21 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.  17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God,  18 that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great."  19 And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.  20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.  21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh. Revelation 20:1-3 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.  2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;  3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
Did you know this scroll/book is mentioned in the book of Daniel in Chapter 12? Daniel was having a conversation with the Lord about the end time events along a river bank. This took place approximately 534 B.C. The book of Revelation is what is to come in the future, in fact near future. Revelation is prophecy recorded in the OT just like the prophecy of Jesus birth. It will happen whether we like it or not, the question is are you ready if the Rapture happens tomorrow? Have you given your life to Jesus and living your life according to God’s plan? Daniel 12:1-10 "At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, (the tribulation) Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, Every one who is found written in the book. (The Book of Life.)  2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, (This speaks of the Rapture and the Great White Throne Judgment. These two awakenings take place approximately 1000 years apart from each other.) Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt.  3 Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever. (This talks about the rewards in Heaven for serving God by spreading the Gospel of Salvation.)  4 "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; (Refers to the scroll with 7 seals in Revelation.) many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."  5 Then I, Daniel, looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that riverbank.  6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, "How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?"  7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.  8 Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, "My lord, what shall be the end of these things?"  9 And he said, "Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end10 Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.
OK, now for this week’s lesson. The rest of Chapter 5 is all about worship in the Throne Room.
Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
When He had taken the scroll refers to Jesus. The four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before Jesus to worship him. In reading the verse one would get the impression that the creatures and elders each had harps and bowls of incense, but in the Greek it indicates that just the elders had them. What are these bowls of incense that are prayers of the saints? The prayers are prayers of judgment, of when will sin and corruption be wiped off of this earth. The prayers go right along with what Jesus taught us in the Lord’s Prayer. Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. God’s saints cry out to God asking how long must sin prevail here on earth. When will Jesus take over and rule and reign instead of Satan?
God answers prayers, but He answers them according to His timeline and not ours. Think of it this way; all prayers that are sent up to Heaven through Jesus are filed in a filing system. When all the things take place in God’s prescribed order happens, then our prayers are answered. This is what’s in the bowls being held by the elders, prayers pertaining to future events. Eventually those prayers will be answered.
And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
And they sang a new song, saying; This new song is referring to the redeemed saints singing a song of praise and glory to our Lord Jesus Christ. A song of thanks for what Jesus did on the Cross for us. To put this into perspective, when I was saved the words of many songs took on a whole new meaning, a few being, Amazing Grace, Holy, Holy, Holy, and How Great Thou Art. Songs never caused me to cry until after I was saved, but then all of a sudden I fully understood what Jesus did for me and songs bring forth tears of gratefulness, happiness, and sorrow.
You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood; Jesus is the only one worthy to take and open the scroll because of Him defeating Satan and shedding His blood for us by dying on the Cross. It is Jesus blood that cleanses us of our sins. We are pure and spotless in God’s eyes because all God sees is His Sons blood covering us.
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation; This statement boldly proclaims all on earth can accept Jesus as their saviour if they so desire. One must repent, turn from there wicked lifestyle to be saved.
10  And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth."
This verse tells us that when we are Born Again we become kings and priest in God’s eyes. We are one in Christ. 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
There are religions that take this literally and preach that a saved person is a little god and they can speak things into existence through faith. God sees saved individuals as priests and kings because of the shed blood of Jesus that covers the individual. Saved individuals are still human beings and will sin and will continue to go to Jesus and ask for forgiveness. Jesus didn’t have to do this because of His divine nature. He knew right from wrong and always chose the right thing to do, but due to the inherited sin nature we as humans cannot do that. Anyone that proclaims and practices the word of faith movement is placing their faith in self and not the acts of the Cross. At some point in time we will reign on earth with Jesus, then we will be kings and priests, and that time will commence with the Kingdom Age (Millennium).
11  Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands,
Ten thousand is the greatest number expressed in the Greek language and the last phrase signifies that thousands of thousands of these ten thousand times ten thousand was present. Daniel 7:10 A fiery stream issued And came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, And the books were opened. In other words there is no way humanly possible to count the angels present. Can we count the stars in the heavens? Many places the Bible refers to stars as being angels. That’s how many angels there were.
12  saying with a loud voice: "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!"
What a sound this would be, one beyond comprehension. A loud sound, one of volume that would be deafening. It’s a good thing we will all have glorified body in Heaven, otherwise we would need ear plugs because our ear drums would shatter. Did you also notice what is being proclaim is being said and not sung. Did you know that whenever angels are mentioned in the Bible they are always saying and not singing. We picture angels to sing, but maybe they can’t, hmmmm?
The praise given to Jesus is a complete praise, a seven fold praise. I underlined what Jesus is worthy of above in the verse. This statement should be in every persons vocabulary when we are praising or praying to Jesus.
13  And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: "Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!"
The meaning of this verse is that all created things united in rendering honor to Him who sits on the Throne and to the Lamb. Verse eleven speaks of those present in the Throne room, but this verse includes all of creation. The entire universe was heard by John ascribing praise to God and Jesus, from all parts of the earth, from under the earth, and from the depths of the sea. Due to the fall of mankind it just wasn’t the nature of man that was changed, but all of creations nature was changed. So it isn’t just God’s Saints waiting for the return of the Garden of Eden, but the universe is. Romans 8:19-21 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.  20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;  21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
14  Then the four living creatures said, "Amen!" And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.
The four living creatures are saying amen to the four blessings all of creation is giving to God and Jesus. Amen signifies they are in agreement with what creation is saying. Verses 13 & 14 are also stating that there is eternity, “Him who lives forever and ever”. Eternity meaning eternal life in Heaven or eternal death in Hell.
Have…….You…….given your heart to Jesus yet and experienced a change in your life, if not, what fear is holding you back? Eternal Happiness or Eternal Fire?
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…...
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Psalms 99:1-9 The LORD reigns; Let the peoples tremble! He dwells between the cherubim; Let the earth be moved! The LORD is great in Zion, And He is high above all the peoples. Let them praise Your great and awesome name— He is holy. The King’s strength also loves justice; You have established equity; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt the LORD our God, And worship at His footstool— He is holy. Moses and Aaron were among His priests, And Samuel was among those who called upon His name; They called upon the LORD, and He answered them. He spoke to them in the cloudy pillar; They kept His testimonies and the ordinance He gave them. You answered them, O LORD our God; You were to them God-Who-Forgives, Though You took vengeance on their deeds. Exalt the LORD our God, And worship at His holy hill; For the LORD our God is holy.
Father God we praise you for you are Holy! Holy! Holy! Hallowed be thy name! We thank you for your love. Bless us, cleanse us, and make us more like Jesus with each passing day. Guide our loved ones through each day and fertilize their relationship with you so that it will grow, blossom, and bear fruit. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Revelation 5:1-7 NKJV
Last Thursday evening a question was posed at Bible Study as to what a scroll is made out of. No one really had an answer so here is what scrolls were made out of in ancient times.
Some scrolls were made out of parchment;
1.  The skin of sheep, goats, etc., prepared for use as a material on which to write.
2.  A manuscript or document on such material.
Some scrolls were made out of papyrus [puh-pahy-ruh s];
1.  A tall, aquatic plant, Cyperus papyrus, of the sedge family, native to the Nile valley: the Egyptian subspecies, C. papyrus hadidii, thought to be common in ancient times, now occurs only in several sites.
2.  A material on which to write, prepared from thin strips of the pith of this plant laid together, soaked pressed, and dried, used by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans.
3.  An ancient document, manuscript, or scroll written on this material.
This Chapter introduces the scroll, or some Bible versions refer to it as a book that was sealed with seven seals. The book is introduced by God and in this chapter John witnesses, what appears first, is that no one is worthy to open the book in God’s hand, but I know who is, do you?
2        And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals.
And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne; John states here that he saw the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. Can we assume that is all John could see due to the brilliant light shining forth from God? Yes it is possible that John still could not see God’s actual appearance/form, because back in Chapter 4:3-4 God was described as Light, Jasper, and Sardis. Did you notice it was God’s right hand? God’s right hand signifies power, judgment, and righteousness. Since the beginning of time the right hand signified power and righteousness. When Jesus ascended into Heaven He was seated at the right hand of God. In Matthew the separation of sheep and goats; the sheep (God’s people.) go to the right and goats (Oppose God.) to the left. Matthew 25:33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Genesis 48:18 And Joseph said to his father, “Not so, my father, for this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head.” Exodus 15:6 “Your right hand, O LORD, has become glorious in power; Your right hand, O LORD, has dashed the enemy in pieces. Exodus 15:12 You stretched out Your right hand; The earth swallowed them. Food for thought with what is going on in our Government system, and I’m not saying all fall into these categories, but Republicans vs. Democrats or Sheep vs. Goats? Hmmmm!
A scroll written inside and on the back; John refers to the scroll being written on one side which would be a normal thing for scrolls. As a scroll would be unrolled it could be read. It would be cumbersome to read a scroll and have to read both sides.
Sealed with seven seals; This scroll is sealed with seven seals not one. Each seal represent a new event in what is about to be reveled to John. In other words, we can identify each seal as being a new chapter in a book. Seven represents completeness in God’s prescribed order of things.
2    Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?”
Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice; This phrase presents this angel of being of high rank. “Strong” in the Greek is “ischuros,” and means “forcible, mighty, powerful, valiant.” This Angel very well could be Gabriel, because “Gabriel” means “strength of God”; so the word “strong” could be applying to him. Gabriel has appeared throughout the Bible as an informant more than any other angel and this is what this angel is doing, making a proclamation. Gabriel spoke to Daniel, Zacharias, and Mary. There are other accounts in Daniel and we know an angel spoke to Joseph, but the name of the messenger is not identified. Daniel 8:16; 9:21–23; Luke 1:13–19, 26.
Who is worthy to open the scroll and to lose its seals?; “Who is worthy”, is referring to moral fitness, pure and spotless, righteous among all created beings, someone that has conquered sin and is without sin. The angel is asking, is there any one of this nature that is worthy to remove the seals on this scroll, if so then step forward?

3    And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.
The question was asked by the angel, who is worthy, and then there must have been a long period of great silence for John to say, “no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it was worthy”. This is referring to no one in the universe, because all that was mentioned included the universe. Now remember this is covering a time span of creation to Kingdom Age. This tells us how sinful and corrupt we are as human beings based on God’s point of view. But wait, each and every one of us view ourselves as good, don’t we? I’m better than John Doe, Jack, or Jane, so this must be wrong, I’m a good person. This is what’s wrong with us as human beings because of the fall of Adam, every human being is born with the sin nature. Because of the sin nature we judge ourselves according to other human being acts and language, and not according to God’s righteousness. This is why we need Jesus as our redeemer because He defeated Satan at the Cross and bore our sins. Jesus took our sins and threw them in Satan’s face. We need to place our faith in the finished works of the Cross and stay focus on the Cross of Christ. There is no other way to Heaven but through Jesus. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
How do I make Jesus my Saviour? How do I have a Spiritual Birth and become a Born Again Saint in God’s eyes? I’m glad you asked these questions. Pray these words, focus and understand what these words mean, say them with your heart and not your lips, believe with all your heart that Jesus loves you and died for you on the Cross, read the Bible daily, fellowship with God fearing people, and believe with your heart that Jesus will come and live in your heart. Remember it isn’t the word you say with your lips, but the words you say with your heart that counts.
Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sins and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty.  I believe you, Jesus, are the Son of God; the only way, the only truth, the only life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and with your help, and only with your help, I can live a new life.  In Jesus name I pray Amen.
4    So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it.
John started to cry because no one was stepping forward. He hung his head and wept, he may have even bent over based on verse 6. What was going on inside of John’s heart? Was he weeping because no one was worthy or because he wasn’t going to see what was to come at the end of time? We as human beings seek what the future holds, so maybe John was crying for two reasons. Is it possible John’s humanistic character rose up and he was afraid he wasn’t going to get to see the future? As human beings we are never content with what God provides us with, are we? We always want more!
5    But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals."
At last an elder speaks up and John’s dilemma is solved. It is Jesus that is worthy. It is what Jesus did for us that makes it possible for all to be saved if they put their trust and faith in Him. He and only Him is worthy, there is no other. It is not Ala, Buddha, or a co-redeemer that other religions proclaim, it is Jesus Christ. It is the sacrifice, the shed blood of Jesus.
6    And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
In the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb; This lamb that John is describing here is Jesus. It is symbolic of Jesus, who He is and what He did and does for us. John the Baptist referred to Jesus as a lamb. John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! A lamb was an emblem of innocence and was offered commonly as a sin offering sacrifice and that is exactly what Jesus represents, innocence and a sacrifice for our sins.
Just as a lamb is slain and the life blood of the lamb is drained in place of the blood of the sinner making the offering, Jesus blood was drained (life) instead of our blood. The blood of the sacrificial lamb covered the sins of the one making the offering. Their sins were washed away for the moment, but always reappeared because the animal sacrifice was only temporary. Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice for our sins and when we have a Spiritual Birth, by placing our faith in Jesus and what He did on the Cross in our place, his blood covers us forever, provided we stay focus and keep our faith in the finished works of the Cross. Life is in the blood and the shed blood of Jesus gives us life if we believe. Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.
As though it had been slain; The great work which Jesus our Redeemer performed on the Cross, that being, making an atonement for sin, is represented here in this phrase and John recognized Jesus at once. This is why Jesus is the only one worthy to take and open the scroll. No other man, woman, or child comes close to being equal or above Jesus Christ.
Having seven horns; Signifies authority and power, for the horn is a symbol of power and dominion. Compare Deuteronomy_33:17; 1 Kings_22:11; Jeremiah_48:25; Zecariah_1:18; Daniel_7:24. The propriety of this symbol is laid in the fact that the strength of an animal is in the horn, and that it is by this that he obtains a victory over other animals. The number seven here seems to be designed, as in other places, to denote completeness and complete dominion.
And seven eyes; Symbols of intelligence. The number seven here also denotes completeness, and the idea is, that he is able to survey all things. The whole representation is symbolical, and we may understand the meaning of the symbol but not able to form an exact conception of the figure as it appeared to him.
Which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth; The seven Spirits of God; or the diverse operations of the one Divine Spirit, meaning a spirit that is all over the place and surveys and sees all things. The operations of the Spirit are to be regarded as connected with the work of our Redeemer. All the operations of the Spirit are connected with, and are a part of, the work of redemption. The expression “sent forth into all the earth,” refers to the fact that the Spirit is involved in all things. The Spirit of God is often represented as sent or poured out, and the meaning here is, that his operations are as if he was sent out to survey all things and to operate everywhere.
7    Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.
He, meaning Jesus Christ. Praise God Almighty for sending His Son Jesus to earth out of love for us so that we as human being can have a chance to accept Jesus as our Saviour if we so desire. Praise Jesus for accepting Gods will and being the ultimate sacrifice out of love for us. He is the only one worthy to take the scroll. PRAISE THE NAME OF JESUS!
