Psalms 97:1-12 The LORD reigns; Let the earth rejoice; Let the multitude of isles be glad! Clouds and darkness surround Him; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. A fire goes before Him, And burns up His enemies round about. His lightnings light the world; The earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD, At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the peoples see His glory. Let all be put to shame who serve carved images, Who boast of idols. Worship Him, all you gods. Zion hears and is glad, And the daughters of Judah rejoice Because of Your judgments, O LORD. For You, LORD, are most high above all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods. You who love the LORD, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, And gladness for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.
Father God we thank you for all that you do for us each day. We give you praise and glory. Please open our ears so we can hear, our eyes so we can see, our mind so we can understand, and give us a heart to know the truth. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Revelation ( Pre-Tribulation Rapture) NKJV
Last week we were introduced to Heaven. We had a glimpse of God’s Throne Room and who is in the Throne Room with Him. The view is a grand view that we as human beings cannot come close to comprehending. We learned about God’s brilliance, 4 beasts, 24 elders, golden crowns, thunder and lightning from God’s Throne, voices, white robes, and the seven lamp stands.
This week I was planning on continuing with the description of God’s Throne Room, but I got caught up in the timing of the Rapture and several things were revealed to me so I thought I’d share them. I will continue with God’s Throne Room next week.
I would like to remind all that starting with Chapter 4 through 19 it is all about the events of the seven year Tribulation. Here’s a few key things revealed in scripture that supports Pre-Tribulation Rapture.
Point one; if you remember at the end of each of the messages that Jesus gave to the seven churches he stated, "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches". Jesus is speaking to the churches, not an individual. That is because the churches are still on the earth, meaning His children. The seven candle sticks represent the churches that we studied in chapter one. Revelation 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches. Now let’s go to Chapter 13 and see what is said pertaining to those that became believers during the Tribulation after the Rapture. Revelation 13:9 KJV If any man have an ear, let him hear. This is being addressed to those that have become believers during the Tribulation that are still on earth, not to the churches because the church, God’s children are in Heaven.
Point two; we are ambassador’s for Christ and when a kingdom prepares for battle aren’t the ambassadors called together to prepare for battle? Corinthians tells us we are ambassadors. 2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. Since we are ambassadors for Christ and knowing we will be with Him at His Second Coming/Armageddon, then by means of the Rapture we are called home to prepare for battle. Revelation 19:14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.
Point three; What is the Churches name for God, “Our Father”. In chapters 4-19 not once is God called Father. He is referred to as God, Lord, Almighty and all the other names known in the OT, but not by Father which is used throughout the NT. When referred to Father in the NT it is always by His Children or referring to Him being the Father of the Born Again Saints. There is only one reference in Chapter 14, and that being Father of Christ in, Revelation 14:1 Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His Father's name written on their foreheads. Why isn’t Father found in Chapters 4-19, because the Church is in Heaven with Him. These on earth are those that accepted Christ after the Rapture; they are people that have been witnessed to that have never heard the Gospel message and in turn received Jesus as there Saviour. These people will be ushered into the New Millennium.
Fourth; the Holy Spirit is removed from earth at the time of the Rapture and all evil will run rampant, which makes total sense and is supported with scripture. Last week’s lesson ended with verse 5 talking about the Spirit of God. In this new vision of John’s, where is the Spirit of God? Before the Throne of God! Revelation 4:5 And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. The Holy Spirit will be removed from earth. Presently He is the restrainer of Satan’s evil forces for God’s Children. Second Thessalonians support this fact, 2 Thessalonians 2:6-8 And now you know what is restraining, (The Holy Spirit.) that he (Satan) may be revealed in his own time.  7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work;(Satan is already at work.) only He who now restrains (Holy Spirit) will do so until He is taken out of the way.  8 And then the lawless one (Satan/anti-christ) will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
Fifth; I want to go back to verse 4:1 & 2 and show the symbolizism that has been revealed to me. Revelation 4:1-2 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, "Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this."  2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. This is a new vision depicting another era of time in God’s Plan that is taking place in Heaven. John is actually living the events of the Rapture and end time events so that he can record them. John was protected from death for this purpose by Jesus, because Jesus had a special place in His heart for John, and was referred to as the Beloved One. We need to go back to the Gospel of John for verification of this fact. I will make comments in green parenthesis.
John 21:17-23 A third time He asked him, "Simon son of John, do you love Me?" Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, "Lord, You know everything. You know that I love You." Jesus said, "Then feed My sheep. 18 "I tell you the truth, when you were young, you were able to do as you liked; you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will dress you and take you where you don't want to go." 19 Jesus said this to let him know by what kind of death he would glorify God. Then Jesus told him, "Follow Me." (Jesus is having a conversation with Peter and revealed what type of death Peter would endure and that he should follow Him.) 20 (Peter now turns and asked, “What about him?” referring to John.) Peter turned around and saw behind them the disciple Jesus loved—the one who had leaned over to Jesus during supper and asked, "Lord, who will betray You?" 21 Peter asked Jesus, "What about him, Lord?" 22 Jesus replied, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow Me." (Jesus is telling Peter in a way to worry about himself and that He would take care of John and the other Apostles. What Jesus is actually saying here is that John would remain alive until He came to him on the island of Patmos, which at that time he would experience the end time events to record. If you read verse 23 the Apostles understood Jesus to say that John would live till the end of time.) 23 So the rumor spread among the community of believers that this disciple wouldn't die. But that isn't what Jesus said at all. He only said, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?"
I hope this is all starting to make sense to you and I haven’t lost you. I will make an attempt to tie all this together at the end. So how does all this tie in with the Rapture? Let’s compare Revelation 4:1, 2 with some other scripture. I underlined the phrases and numbered the phrases that are parallel to each other.
Revelation 4:1-2 After these things (after the church age) I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking 1  with me, saying, "Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this." (after the church age)  2 Immediately 2 I was in the Spirit; 3 (A change came about with John.) and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne.
1 Thessalonians 4:15-17  15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God 1. And the dead in Christ will rise first.  17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up 2 together with them in the clouds 3 (We will have to undergo a change for us to go up in the air.) to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:50-52 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.  51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed 3 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, 2 at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, 1 and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 3
Do you see the similarity in these three sets of verses? Does it make sense? John was protected from death until he could experience this part of God’s plan. John’s second vision starts with Chapter 4, he was taken up into Heaven to see what the end times would be like and his being taken up into Heaven represents the Rapture because God will not subject his Saints to the trials of the Tribulation. If God was to subject His Saints to part of the Tribulation or all of it, John would have remained on earth during this vision like he did for Chapters 1, 2, and 3. He is living the Tribulation in a Spiritual way.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…...
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

4-10-2013 Vol. 7 Part 11 Book of Revelation (Revelation 4:1-5)

Psalms 96:1-13 Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the LORD made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Give to the LORD, O families of the peoples, Give to the LORD glory and strength. Give to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts. Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth. Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns; The world also is firmly established, It shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously." Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness; Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the LORD. For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth.
Father God we thank you for all that you do for us each day. We give you all the praise and glory. Bless our loved ones and guide them and us through each day. In Jesus name. Amen!
Revelation 4:1-5 NKJV
The last 3 chapters have been very informative, thought provoking, humbling, and eye openers at times. Just studying the seven churches which represents the history of the Church Age puts many things in perspective as to why our churches and society is the way it is. Jesus told us these things will happen 2,000 years ago, and they are coming into existence. I understand the different phases of the Church Age and see the evolution of our modern day churches.
With the apostasy that is taking place worldwide in the modern day churches, people, government, etc., we are getting close to the prophecies in the Book of Revelation. We are moving closer and closer to the condition of the society of Sodom, Gomorra, and prior to the flood. People were practicing homosexuality, fornication, and other forms of sexual immorality then, and presently what is in the news on a daily basis is sexual immorality. It isn’t just here in the US, but around the world. We are heading for destruction just like the people of Sodom, Gomorra, and the great flood, but not all of humanity will be wiped out, because God has promised that He would not do that again, but He will remove the evil people and spirits from earth at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Genesis 8:21 And the LORD smelled a soothing aroma. Then the LORD said in His heart, "I will never again curse the ground for man's sake, although the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.
This chapter and chapter 5 are describing activities and beings in Heaven, and chapters 6 through 19 we will learn what will happen to those left here on earth through the Tribulation. Starting with chapter 4 through 19 there is no mention of the Church, the children of God, they will be in Heaven by means of the Rapture. They will not endure the Tribulation period. Chapter 4 starts out with a new vision or experience by John, so let’s see what he sees.
1  After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, "Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this."
After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven; “After these things”, John is referring to all that was stated in the first 3 chapters. We don’t really know if this experience happened right away or if there was a period of time that elapsed, but base on John’s statement it is a new vision/experience. Unlike the scene in Revelation 1:10-12, of seeing the Saviour standing before him, the scene is transferred to heaven, and he is permitted to look in upon the throne of God, and upon the worshippers there.
And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, "Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this; As he was gazing at the open door of Heaven a loud, and distinct, voice commanding him to come up to Heaven and observe what will take place during the Tribulation. The voice was loud and no mistaking that it was coming from Heaven, a voice of Jesus. There was no confusion thinking it was a voice from within one’s self. It was a voice of authority.

2  Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. This phrase, “immediately I was in the Spirit” is referring to a vision, a vision that probably no other has ever experienced. A vision so vivid and real it would seem as though it was actually happening. Have you ever had a vision of any kind? I have once, only a split second during morning prayer and to this day I still don’t know the meaning. The throne of course is referring to the Throne of God and also to God being seated there.
3  And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.
John describes God’s appearance and not his form. His appearance is of great light, brilliance, transparency, and splendor. His form is not distinguishable due to the pure white light that He puts forth.  He is light, the light of the world. Moses had to cover his face when he came down from the mountain because he had been in the presence of God and God’s light was shining from Moses face which frightened the Israelites. Exodus 34:30 So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. God will be the light in the New Jerusalem, there will be no need of any other source of light. Revelation 21:23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.
The characteristics of the Jasper stone, as far as they are specified in Scripture, Revelation 4:3 &_21:11, is that it was most precious and crystal like. From these verses we know it was a stone of brilliant and transparent light. The stone which we name jasper does not agree with this description, a diamond would more adequately describe it.
There are two special varieties of the sardius stone; one a flesh color, the other a transparent red. The beauty of the stone, its transparent brilliance, the high polish capabilities, made it a favorite in ancient times.
The appearance of the rainbow, therefore, around the throne, was a beautiful emblem of the mercy of God, and of the peace that was to pervade the world as the result of the events that were to be disclosed to the vision of John. (Barnes)
The emerald is a transparent stone of a light green color. With the splendor of these precious stones and the colors of a rainbow, John gives us a grand picture of God sitting on His Throne. A picture we can’t fully comprehend, but will one day take our breath away.

4  Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads.
Around the throne were twenty-four thrones; Who sits on these 24 thrones around God’s throne? We don’t know for sure and John doesn’t give us a clue either. There are several speculations, but no one knows for sure. Some think they are a representation of the 12 tribes of the OT and the 12 apostles of the NT; some think it is a representation of OT Jews and NT Gentiles; some think it represents the 12 Patriarchs and 12 Apostles. In a sense all these thoughts are the same and the only thing we know for sure it that these 24 represent the complete Work of God thorough out OT & NT times. They are people that did the work of God, believed if God, and placed their faith in God. They are individuals from the Bible and have been redeemed by the Blood of Jesus Christ. If they represent the entire time span, which the Book of Revelation does, then is it possible that not all 24 thrones are occupied at the present time? Hmmmmm!
On the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting; Elders mean a minister of the Gospel in some way whether from OT or NT times.
Clothed in white robes; White robes signify an emblem of purity that represents the sanctified church.
They had crowns of gold on their heads; Crowns of gold signifies a kingly office someone special in God’s eyes. Some believe them to be a blend of kings and priests. 1 Peter 2:9-10 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;  10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
5  And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.
From the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices; We don’t really know what the lightning, thunder, and voices are or what causes them, but they portray God Almighty. Exodus 19:16  Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled.
Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God; The "seven Spirits of God" is another name for the Holy Spirit. The number seven of course represents God’s perfection and totality.

4-3-2013 Vol. 7 Part 10 Book of Revelation (Revelation 3:14-22)

Psalms 95:1-11 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is the great God, And the great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; And His hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice: "Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, As in the day of trial in the wilderness, When your fathers tested Me; They tried Me, though they saw My work. For forty years I was grieved with that generation, And said, 'It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.' So I swore in My wrath, 'They shall not enter My rest.'
Father God we thank you for all that you do for us each day. We give you all the praise and glory. Bless our loved ones and guide them and us through each day. In Jesus name I pray. Amen!
Revelation 3:14-22 NKJV
This week’s lesson will be about the church of Laodicea. This church represents the apostate church of current times that started in the late 1900’s to present, which tells us the Rapture isn’t far away. During this church period, people and modern day churches are making and adopting mans doctrine to fit the lifestyles of current times. They’re not only twisting God’s Word, but completely disregarding His Word. For instance; same sex marriage; homosexuality; sexually abusing children, legalizing marijuana; enslaving people through government (greed & power), euthanasia, removing God from our society, etc. The list is long and the sad part is denomination churches, pastors, & priests are endorsing some of these things which are of Satan and not God. Just within the past 2 weeks, Rob Bell a pastor of a mega church has endorsed same sex marriage (http://www.freep.com/article/20130322/FEATURES/130322062/Evangelical-author-Rob-Bell-comes-out-support-gay-marriage); in the past 60 years 75% of the Catholic churches in the Joliet area had priests that sexually abused children and the church covered it up (http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/iteam&id=9033945). This is apostasy and living for self and not God. I pray for these people to repent and accept Jesus as their Saviour so they will not spend eternity in Hell. This is what the church of Laodicea is all about and we can plainly see it today.
Laodicea lay on the confines of Phrygia and Lydia, about 40 miles east of Ephesus, on the banks of Lycus. It was originally called Diospolis and then Rhoas, but latter Laodicea. Antiochus II., king of Syria, rebuilt the city and named it in honor of his wife, Laodice.
Though Laodicea stood on the great highway at the junction of several important routes, it was a place of little consequence until the Roman province of Asia was formed in 190 BC. It then suddenly became a great and wealthy center of industry, famous especially for the fine black wool of its sheep and for the Phrygian powder for the eyes, which was manufactured there. It was one of the most important and flourishing cities of Asia Minor. It is now a deserted place, called by the Turks Eski-hissar or “old castle.”
Christianity was introduced into Laodicea via Paul’s teachings, not directly by him, but by a fellow brethren from Colossae. Paul addresses in his writing to Colossae that the letter was to be presented to Laodicea also. Colossians 4:16 Now when this epistle is read among you, see that it is read also in the church of the Laodiceans, and that you likewise read the epistle from Laodicea. At a very early period it became one of the chief seats of Christianity and its population was mainly of Jews and Syrians. It was the seat of bishop and a meeting place of councils in early times.
This wealth (arising from its commerce of fine wool) led to a self satisfied "lukewarm" state in spiritual things, which the Lord condemns as more dangerous than positive icy coldness. The two churches most comfortable in their materialistic condition, not spirituality, are those most rebuked, Sardis and Laodicea; while the two most afflicted and materialistically poor are the most commended, Smyrna and Philadelphia because of their spiritual richness.
14  "And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, 'These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God:
The introduction to this church is a little different than the introduction used to other churches, and that being the word, “Amen”. The introductions to the other churches Jesus used words describing Himself that we understood or could relate to, but here He uses the word amen. We normally relate to using the word amen when closing a prayer. Amen can be used in several ways, but not common in today’s society. This word amen, with differences in meanings, is in all the dialects of the Assyrian’s. As a verb, it signifies to confirm, establish, verify; to trust, give confidence; as a noun, truth, firmness, trust, confidence; as an adjective, firm, stable, constant, unwavering.
The proper use of Amen here is that Jesus is true, certain, and faithful, He is eminently true and faithful and what He promises or threatens, is certain, and does and will happen. Whether verb, noun, or adjective; Jesus is all of the words above. Jesus is the beginning and the end, faithful and true. Jesus is the “God of Amen”.
15  "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.
I know your works; Here again Jesus states he knows this churches works, because Jesus knows all of course. This church, remember we are talking of the churches of today not 2,000 years ago, believes in what they as human beings want to believe. As human beings we pick and choose what we want to believe. If it sounds good to us and fits our lifestyle then we tend to believe. If we don’t agree with what was said then we disregard it and believe what we were raised in, pertaining to our heritage, religion, and culture. For instance, what if your pastor, priest, or rabbi told you that you needed to eat 10 pounds of chocolate every day to secure your salvation. (Alright you chocolate lovers quit dreaming, thinking like that is a sin if indulgence.) You would say Bill that is absolutely ridiculous, and you’re right it is, but what about this? You are raised, from birth, in a culture that believes anyone claiming to be a Christian must be killed, or if you drive a vehicle loaded with explosives into a building killing others and yourself you will go to heaven. Now who are you believing in God or man? You see our upbringing plays a huge part in what we believe. For instance let’s take an example from our Catholic friends, and please bear with me to the end of this example. Everyone knows about the custom of Lent practiced by the Catholic religion. It is a period of time before Resurrection Sunday where a Catholic is to give something up (make a sacrifice), and on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday eat one full meatless meal and the other meals cannot equal the full meal, and abstain from meat on the other Fridays of this time period. This law or custom which ever you prefer to call it is manmade. Nowhere in the Bible does it state this and if one was to eat meat on a Friday they would be sinning against man and not God. This is putting faith in a law not Jesus. Now on the flip side of this if a person whether Protestant or Catholic were to do the above or some form of sacrifice or fasting out of love and wanting a closer relationship with Jesus, because of His death and Resurrection for us, then it takes on a whole different meaning. It is then done out of love and from the Heart! Don’t practice a manmade custom because a religion requires it, especially when it is not in the Bible. This is why we must read and understand the Bible to discern truth or fiction. Salvation is faith in Jesus not faith in laws.
That you are neither cold nor hot; The church of this time is walking the fence. They really don’t know what they believe. Spiritually they are dead. They can and will believe anything that will make them feel good. It is possible at one time their faith was in the Cross of Christ, but with the passing of time the faith has faded. Like a marriage, at first the love is an ardent (hot or burning) love for each other. Struggling in life can get in the way and that burning love turns into a warm relationship, a so…so…ho…hum relationship. If the situation is left unchecked, life and the world will turn what once was a hot love to a cold icy heart.
I could wish you were cold or hot; The state indicated here by Jesus, would be that in which there was a profession of religion, but no warm-hearted faithfulness to Him. Among those who made no profession he had reason to expect nothing but coldness; among those who made a profession he had a right to expect the glow of a warm affection; but he found nothing but indifference.
16  So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
Just like water, hot water is used for many beneficial things in life like cooking, sterilizing, steam for power, hot coffee, etc.; cold water for quenching a thirst, tempering steel, rapidly cooling blanched food for storage, ice tea, etc.; but who wants to drink warm water on a hot summer day, or eat food prepared in warm water, or have surgery done with utensils swished around in warm water, or drink a warm glass of tea or cup of coffee? This is what Jesus is saying about this church, it disgusts Him, it upsets his stomach, and causes Him to vomit! Keep in mind this represents many people of present day churches.
If a person is lukewarm towards something that means he hasn’t accepted or rejected it. So what Jesus is saying here is, because of sitting on the fence, they are not Gods children, there is no such thing as being half saved, there is no gray area with God, it is all or nothing, either you acknowledge, confess, ask for forgiveness, repent, commit to a Christ like lifestyle based on faith in Jesus, or keep on practicing mans religion for salvation. If you choose the latter you lose!
17  Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—
This church has placed itself in a state of self sufficiency based on money and materialistic things. They have fancy buildings, homes, grounds, yards, and vehicles to drive. They are telling themselves they can provide for themselves and believe what they are preaching, they have no other needs. The people of this church appear good physically to other people and the world, but are spiritually wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked in God’s eyes. One example of a church of this nature is one that requires you to provide a copy of your income tax paper, this way they will know how much you will be required to tithe, when you become a member. Believe me this happens, and if you are a member of a church that requires this, their main focus is on money, and not salvation through Jesus Christ. Also if a church that is constantly asking for money, diligently scrutinize where the heart of the church is.
18  I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire; What is Jesus talking about here, “buy from me refined gold”? It is His blood that He shed for you and me. He was tested while here on earth (Matthew 4:1-11) and overcame sin for us so that we can purchase salvation by faith in the Cross of Christ, but the modern day church/people refuse.
That you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; Rich in righteousness of Jesus Christ, meaning when ones faith is place in Jesus and what He did on the Cross in place of us, we are covered with the shed blood of Jesus, and made righteous in God’s eyes. Just like Adam and Eve were clothed in God’s righteousness, they didn’t know they were naked until they ate the fruit, then they fell from God’s grace and saw they were naked. They no longer had God’s clothes of righteousness on.
And anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see; Churches/people of Laodicea need to put eye drops in their eyes to remove the haze so they can see clearly. They need to do something like cataract surgery before it is too late.
19  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
The word for “love” here is “phileo,” which denotes the love of friendship, and not “agapao,” the higher type of love. This love would correspond to the love God has for his children, Born Again children. It is out of love that God rebukes and chastens His children. There was a remnant in this church that Jesus was calling to attention. They were to examine their lives, repent, and get back on track with zeal for God. Hebrews 12:6 FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES."
20  Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Jesus is telling us without any hidden messages here that we have to open the door for Him to come into our heart. He is always standing on the other side of the door, but can’t come in because there is no door knob on His side of the door. The only thing we have to do to acquire salvation is recognize we are sinners due to the inherited sin nature, realize the life we live is a sinful life and it offends Jesus, confess we are sinners to Jesus with an open mouth, ask for forgiveness, and ask Jesus to come into our hearts to rule and reign (open the door). Romans 10:9-10 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. No laws, no religion, no customs, no rituals, no rules, no church doctrine, no denomination, no heritage, no self works, etc. will secure passage into Heaven, just what Romans 10:9, 10 state, and don’t let anyone tell you anything different. Simple child like faith!
21  To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with me on my throne; Anyone that comes to the revelation that they are sinners and gives their heart to Jesus are overcomer’s, they will share his honors and his triumphs and sit on the throne with Jesus. Jesus stated in the message to the church of Thyatira, “he who overcomes will rule with Him in the Kingdom Age. Revelation 2:26-27 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations—  27 'HE SHALL RULE THEM WITH A ROD OF IRON; THEY SHALL BE DASHED TO PIECES LIKE THE POTTER'S VESSELS'— as I also have received from My Father;  Paul also states anyone that overcomes will be a joint heir with Christ. Romans 8:17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
As I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne; Jesus gained victory over the world by defeating Satan at the Cross and exalted to the throne of the universe. All things are put under his feet, and in the strictest agreement and with perfect harmony he is united with the Father in administering the affairs of all worlds. Philippians 2:5-11 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,  6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,  7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.  8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.  9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,  10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,  11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
22  "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."
The message is simple, open ones ears to what Jesus is saying and come to the Cross for salvation. There is no other way!
