Book of Romans
1-18-2012 Vol. 6 Part 10
Psalms 55:17-23 NKJV Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice. He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, For there were many against me. God will hear, and afflict them, Even He who abides from of old. Selah. Because they do not change, Therefore they do not fear God. He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; He has broken his covenant. The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, But war was in his heart; His words were softer than oil, Yet they were drawn swords. Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction; Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; But I will trust in You. Father we praise you, we give you all the glory. We thank you for all you provide to us. We ask for your warm embrace that gives us the assurance that we are right with you and ask that you touch and change the hearts of our loved ones that don’t know you like they should.  In the name of Jesus of we pray! Amen!
Romans 3:1-2
Romans 3:1-2 NKJV What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision?  2 Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God.
Paul has really brought to light many truths of what God has stated in His Holy Word. He has put conviction on the Jews of his time and also convicted us of the same things. The things Paul has stated are very true and some of them are hard to swallow. All of us, pagan Gentiles, humanitarians, and religious people, are condemned by our own actions. The law, which God gave to show the way to live, holds up our evil deeds to public view. Yes, says Paul. The law condemns us, it is true, but the law is not the basis of our hope. God himself is. He, in his righteousness and wonderful love, offers us eternal life. We receive our salvation not through law but through faith in Jesus Christ. We cannot earn it; we accept it as a gift from our loving heavenly Father. If you agree with the things that have been stated in chapters 1 & 2, then I would say you are living for Jesus, but if you disagree and have had conviction placed upon you by God’s word, then you may not be in a relationship with Jesus like you should be. Please take some time and do some real deep down soul searching and listen to that voice within you and what it is saying. Sometimes we have a hard time admitting we are wrong, I know I do, so don’t put off your total trust in Jesus today thinking you have time, because we don’t control our time here on earth.
Verses 1-2: Paul starts out with a question that the Jews were thinking and wondering what is the advantage of being a Jew or even participating in the rite of circumcision? He explains to them that God had chosen them to be the guardians of His oracles. There is no other honor higher than to be chosen as God’s people and then be trusted with the scriptures. The privilege associated with the Word of God is best expressed within the Word of God. The Word of God is our Salvation Survival Kit. It reveals to us the way to salvation in two ways:
1.    What the Word of God does to us.
2.    How the Word of God is like a picture book.
We are converted:
Psalms 19:7 NKJV The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
1 Peter 1:23 NKJV having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,
James 1:18 NKJV Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.
John 20:30-31 NKJV And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;  31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
2 Timothy 3:15 NKJV and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
We are convicted:
2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
We are cleansed:
John 17:17 NKJV Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
Psalms 119:9 NKJV How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
We are comforted:
Romans 15:4 NKJV For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
We are counseled:
Psalms 19:7-8 NKJV The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;  8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
We are corrected:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,  17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The Word of God is seed:
1 Peter 1:23 NKJV having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,
1 John 3:9 NKJV Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
The Word of God is a mirror:
James 1:22-24 NKJV But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.  23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;  24  for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
The Word of God is body armor:
Ephesians 6:11-13 NKJV Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
The Word of God is a girdle:
Ephesians 6:14 NKJV Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth……
The Word of God is a breastplate:
Ephesians 6:14 NKJV …… having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
The Word of God is shoes:
Ephesians 6:15 NKJV and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
The Word of God is a shield:
Ephesians 6:16 NKJV above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
The Word of God is a helmet:
Ephesians 6:17 NKJV And take the helmet of salvation,…….
The Word of God is a sword:
Ephesians 6:17 NKJV ……… and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
Hebrews 4:12 NKJV For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Word of God is a hammer:
Jeremiah 23:29 NKJV "Is not My word like a fire?" says the LORD, "And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
The Word of God is a lamp:
Psalms 119:105 NKJV Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
2 Peter 1:19 NKJV And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
The Word of God is milk:
1 Peter 2:2 NKJV as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
Hebrews 5:12-13 NKJV For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.  13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.
The Word of God is solid food:
Hebrews 5:14 NKJV But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
The Word of God is a fire:
Jeremiah 20:9 NKJV Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name." But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.
Luke 24:32 NKJV And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?"
This is just a sampling of what the Bible contains for us. The Bible holds all the answers for our life here on earth. If read and studied it will show you the way to Jesus in a very intimate way.
The organization that has promoted Bible reading throughout our society is Gideon’s International. In1985, they produced this statement concerning the Word of God:
The Bible-it contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s charter. Here paradise is restored, heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is the grand subject, our good the design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure. It is given you in life, will be opened at the judgment and be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes,
 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: Can man tame all things?
Answer: We can tame all things but the one thing we cannot tame is ourselves, meaning our tongue. James 3:7-8 NKJV For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind.  8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. If we could tame out tongue, love would overflow here on earth.
This week’s Trivia: How old is this expression? Apple of my eye.
