7-24-2013 Special Lesson (Born Again)

Note: To download/print the document, click on the title below.

Psalms 105:1-22 Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD! Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore! Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth, O seed of Abraham His servant, You children of Jacob, His chosen ones! He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth. He remembers His covenant forever, The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations, The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac, And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan As the allotment of your inheritance," When they were few in number, Indeed very few, and strangers in it. When they went from one nation to another, From one kingdom to another people, He permitted no one to do them wrong; Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes, Saying, "Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm." Moreover He called for a famine in the land; He destroyed all the provision of bread. He sent a man before them— Joseph—who was sold as a slave. They hurt his feet with fetters, He was laid in irons. Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the LORD tested him. The king sent and released him, The ruler of the people let him go free. He made him lord of his house, And ruler of all his possessions, To bind his princes at his pleasure, And teach his elders wisdom.
Father God we praise you and give you thanks. Open the hearts of all that read this lesson so they can understand what Born Again is and how to obtain it. Amen!
BORN AGAIN
I’m going to deviate from the Revelation study for this week to explain what Born Again is, what is required to be Born Again, and what it is not. Why am I doing this? It is because over the past year there are many new readers around the world and if they haven’t gone to Volume 1 on my blog they may not understand what being Born Again is all about.
As you notice last week I ended the lesson, as well as this week, with an example of the Sinners Prayer or some refer to it as the Prayer of Salvation. This prayer goes along with the verses that I always use in closing especially John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." As stated on other occasions it is not the prayer that will save a person (being Born Again), it is what’s in your heart. You can say the prayer until you are exhausted and a Spiritual Birth will not happen if you continue to live the same life. Jesus calls this type of prayer vain repetition, it is just words coming out of your mouth. Matthew 6:7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
There are several things that must take place in your heart in order to be Born Again:
1.       You have to come to the realization that you are a sinner in God’s eyes and believe this. You must understand what the sin nature is, where it came from, and that all human beings are born with it because of Adam and Eve disobeying God. This sin nature resulted in a separation of a close relationship with God. Before they disobeyed God, Adam and Eve walked with God, meaning a close relationship. Because of this disobedience they were kicked out of God’s Kingdom, the Garden of Eden. This act of disobedience has put hostility between all mankind and God, and the only way to get that close relationship back with God it through a Spiritual Birth, in other words, by being Born Again. Romans 8:5-8 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.  6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.  8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
2.      You have to open your mouth and tell Jesus you are a sinner and ask Him to forgive you. Romans 10:9-10 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. This means confessing your sins to our Lord Jesus and not man. We live according to the New Testament now and not the Old Testament. In the Old Testament a priest was required to be the intercessor between God and the sinner, in other words take the blood of the sacrificed animal in to God (the inner temple) once a year for sin atonement. Life for us is in the atoning blood of Jesus Christ. Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.  The priest was just a messenger, he was the only one allowed to enter into the inner temple, the Holy of Holies, he didn’t forgive the sinners sins, God did. The scribes and Pharisees knew only God can forgive sins, that is why they had a problem with Jesus when He told individuals their sins were forgiven. Luke 5:21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
We live according to the New Testament and a priest is not needed as a messenger for the forgiveness of sins like it was in the Old Testament because when Jesus died on the Cross, the inner temple veil was ripped from top to bottom. This ripping of the veil tells us we no longer need man in the ritual of sin forgiveness. We go directly to Jesus who is our high priest. The Book of Hebrews teaches all about priest and high priest. Hebrews 4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.  15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.  16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
3.      You have to repent of your sinful lifestyle. This doesn’t mean being sorry for your sinful ways, it means a heart desire to live a new life modeled after Jesus. It means turning 180 degrees from your rituals, manmade religious laws, what false beliefs you were raised up in, the customs of your religion that you have been practicing, etc. We are to live according to the teachings of the New Testament. Is everything you practice in religion verified in the New Testament? Don’t get caught up in the ritualistic acts of man like the Pharisees did in the Old Testament. They clung tight to their customs for salvation, which is religion. Be open minded and step out in faith to obtain a new life in Jesus. Don’t worry about what man will think about you, think about what God sees and thinks about you if you’re not saved (walking sinful flesh).  Anyone practicing mans religion will not find salvation and will descend instead of rising at death. It is your eternal life at stake here, Heaven or Hell for eternity. The Ten Commandments and religion are supposed to lead a person to salvation through teachings and not away from salvation. Many times people get confused and place their faith in religion. It is the acts of the Cross and fully understanding why Jesus died on the Cross for us so that we will have a chance at accepting Jesus as our Saviour. Paul explains this to his kinsman in Romans 9:3-7 For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh,  4 who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises;  5 of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.  6 But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel,  7 nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, "IN ISAAC YOUR SEED SHALL BE CALLED." Romans 9:30-32 What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith;  31 but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness.  32 Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone. Paul is preaching to his fellow Jewish kinsman that just because they are Jews that doesn’t mean they are guaranteed to go to Heaven. They are living a life of trying to keep the law and perform religious rituals. Their faith was in the Laws. He is trying to explain to them they have to live a life of faith in what Jesus did at the Cross for them. Go to my blog and read the study of Romans Chapter 9 for more detail.
4.      Finally ask Jesus to come into your life to rule and reign and believe in what He did for you. Have faith that He will. You have to be sincere and mean it with your heart (have faith) that you will be committed to a new life with Jesus in charge, not you. You can’t give any of this lip service and think you are saved because you recited a prayer. That’s what the Pharisees and Scribes did. They honored God with their lips and not their hearts. They lived by works, meaning religious laws and rituals. Jesus knows what is in your heart. Mark 7:6 He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: this people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me”. Romans 3:13 "Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they have practiced deceit"; "the poison of asps is under their lips";
You have to believe that Jesus died to set us free from our sinful lifestyle, the inherited sin nature, and He rose from the dead to give us eternal life, and right now He is seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. You have to believe Jesus is the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, our Savior, and only through Him by faith one can see the Kingdom of God. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. You have to believe this and have faith Jesus will make a new person out of you by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in your heart and lead you in a new life, He tells us he will in; John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—  17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.  18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. Start reading the New Testament seeking the truth by asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the treasures of scripture.
For a person to be Born Again they must experience a change in their life. A person cannot be Born Again if they continue living the same lifestyle. If a change is not experienced, then that person needs to examine their life and see what they are still clinging to that does not please God. Maybe when they recited the prayer the thought in their mind was I’m not going to change my religion or what my religion teaches, I’ve practice this religion all my life and I’m not about to change. If this is the case then the recital of the prayer was only with their lips. This person isn’t willing to let Jesus rule their life, in other words submit to the workings of the Holy Spirit, they still want to rule their own life. Some people receive a Spiritual Birth and God allows them to stay in a religion, but convicts them of the false rituals and customs and they turn from the false doctrine. Most likely if the religion is not based on the New Testament the person will leave because the Holy Spirit points out the unscriptural dogma of the religion.
Maybe they tried to cut a deal with Jesus before reciting the prayer like, “Jesus I’m not giving up my love of sports, drinking, materialistic things, the way I pray, the way live, the weekend revelries, pornography, being a busy body, etc. In God’s eyes this is idolatry. Anything a person places above God is viewed as idolatry. If a person puts the things of this world first and God fits in someplace after them, if there is time for God, then they practice idolatry in God’s eyes and the prayer is from their lips and mind and not their heart.
What I’m trying to say is if one is sincere about giving their life to Jesus, they need to be willing to let the Holy Spirit come into their heart and place conviction upon them of their sinful lifestyle and turn from it. If a person is not willing to do this, then they are not repentant. A life style change in a person will be evident when they are Born Again.
Testimonies from Born Again Believers:
Joymarie; As far as I can remember I believed...as a little girl I knew that Jesus would take care of me and that he had a plan...I have traveled a few paths to walk  closer with Jesus and along the way many people have touched my heart....as far as Born Again...I don't remember a radical conversion... just a stronger understanding and deep belief that Jesus died for my sins and he loves me and he will take care of all my needs...It’s like a light bulb was turned on...and I get it....of course it wasn't a 15 watt bulb but a  600 watt GROW LIGHT...I feel that I have changed but there is always an ongoing struggle.
Every time I have given a problem to the Lord.....he has resolved it ...maybe not the way  I wanted... but it would be the best way in the end. He is an awesome Lord
But for me...it is very hard to live in the world and not be of the world....struggle, struggle. I guess you can say the devil is working overtime.  Thank God...he is a forgiving and a loving Lord...
Jeremy; I was driving home late one Sunday night when I gave my heart to the Lord. Things I notice in order; Strong desire to learn scripture and study the Bible; Bad language stopped immediately; Stopped drinking 3 months later; Stopped chewing 6 months later.
Even though I still have worries from time to time, I know Jesus is there in control which is very comforting.
Kate; I was saved/born again in the summer of 2007, after seeking information pertaining to prophesy and end time events. Salvation wise, I thought that I was O.K. with God, but in the process of researching end time events, I stumbled across info. and verses in the Bible that caused me to either choose and believe in the thoughts and ways in which I was raised, or believe in the Word of God. When I finally saw myself as a sinner who deserved to go to Hell, and not as a righteous (self-righteous) person, who was hoping to get to Heaven by living a "good" life and being a "good" person, I asked God to forgive me and save me from Hell, and He did! (I Jn.1:9) I had to see and admit that I was lost and deserved to go to Hell before I could be saved. Ignorance of the Bible caused me to have faith in my own thoughts and ideas, rather than in the truth of the Word. I did not realize that the punishment for even just one sin was eternal death. (Rom.6:23, James 2:10, Rom. 2:12, II Thess.1:7-9, Ezek.18:20, Eccl.7:20, Rom.3:23) When I came to terms with my inability to live up to God's standard of righteousness (Jesus Christ, Rom.2:16, Acts 17:31) I only had 2 choices to make: Either A. to not believe the Bible and continue to ease my mind by having faith in my own self-righteousness, or B. Repent of my shortcomings (sins)/self-righteousness and place my faith in the righteousness of Christ, which is then imputed to a believing soul. Rom. 4:3,5,6,11,20-24, Rom.3:22,28, II Cor.5:21, Phillip.3:9) I was very much like the religious Jews of Jesus’ day, was ignorant of God's righteousness (Jesus) and went about going and trying to establish my own righteousness by how I acted and lived.(Rom.10:2-4) Once I decided to place my faith in the Bible and what it said (faith in who Jesus is, and faith in what Jesus has done at the Cross. Rom.3:24-25) and forsook all of my own righteousness and my own ability to get to Heaven, I had no choice, but to cling to Jesus and place all my faith in his substitutionary death and atonement upon the Cross for the forgiveness of MY sins, and receive his imputed righteousness deposited to my account.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe it with your heart, Jesus will save you!
“Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness of all of my sins.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and have faith you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and lead me in a new life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.”  (John 3:16,17; Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 John 5:11-14; 1:6-10) (Sin: Rom. 1:22-32; Gal. 5:19-21; Eph. 5:3-7)

7-17-2013 Vol. 7 Part 22 Book of Revelation (Revelation 8:7-13)

Psalms 104:18-35 The high hills are for the wild goats; The cliffs are a refuge for the rock badgers. He appointed the moon for seasons; The sun knows its going down. You make darkness, and it is night, In which all the beasts of the forest creep about. The young lions roar after their prey, And seek their food from God. When the sun rises, they gather together And lie down in their dens. Man goes out to his work And to his labor until the evening. O LORD, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions—This great and wide sea, In which are innumerable teeming things, Living things both small and great. There the ships sail about; There is that Leviathan Which You have made to play there. These all wait for You, That You may give them their food in due season. What You give them they gather in; You open Your hand, they are filled with good. You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the earth. May the glory of the LORD endure forever; May the LORD rejoice in His works. He looks on the earth, and it trembles;(earthquakes) He touches the hills, and they smoke.(volcanoes) I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. May my meditation be sweet to Him; I will be glad in the LORD. May sinners be consumed from the earth, And the wicked be no more. (This psalmist is crying out just like the souls under the altar. How long must we put up with sin here on earth.) Bless the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD!
Father God we praise you and give you thanks for all you do for us. Pour out your Spirit on us and our loved ones, and open our heart to your Holy and True Word. Amen!
Revelation 8:7-13 NKJV
What a fitting Psalm 107 is. It goes right along with this study of Revelation. Much praise to God for all that He has created and controls, but ends with, “How long Lord before you judge the world”? Revelation 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" Go back and read the whole Psalm from the beginning.
Last week I started to talk about conviction of the Holy Spirit, but had to stop due to space. What is conviction? How does feel like? Does it happen to all humans? Do we induce conviction upon ourselves? Do we ignore conviction thinking it is just us and not from an outside source? These are all very good questions, have you ever thought about them?
Many times a day we receive conviction of our wrong thoughts and actions; some is from within us; some is from the Holy Spirit; some is from something someone says and the Holy Spirit convicts us. We are all born with the knowledge of right and wrong when God created us. Romans 1:20-21 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,  21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. We know what is right and wrong, but our sin nature and the pleasures of our flesh override good, and we justify our actions according to other human beings and their lifestyles instead of God’s Word the Bible. Everyone has an empty spot deep inside of them. That is why people long for something, but they don’t know what it is. For more information about this refer to the lesson dated 12-7-2011 Vol. 6 Part 5 Romans 1:18-23 on my blog. So yes, conviction happens to all people. Yes, we have conviction from within and from outside sources.
Most people do not like conviction of wrong doing because the sin nature creates a hard heart and stiff neck in people toward God and it creates human hearts that we know best and we can survive, we don’t need anyone else. We can figure out on our own how to get to Heaven; the Bible is just an old book. So yes, probably many times we choose to ignore conviction due to the sin nature.
What does conviction feel like? How does it affect a person? Self conviction causes one to feel uncomfortable because they know or sense wrong. Outside conviction results from something someone might say that is true and the truth is validated with scripture, this is called sowing seeds of righteousness. This type of conviction causes one to be uneasy because it isn’t what they were raised up in or what their religion teaches. So the signs of conviction are; don’t want to talk about it, the convicted person changes the subject, the seat they are sitting in gets hot and the person starts shifting from cheek to cheek, the person gets fidgety, the fight or flight nature of the sin nature kicks in, the hair on the back of your neck stands up, etc. This is where the Holy Spirit takes over because it isn’t the person that is causing this feeling in you, it is the truth of God’s Holy Word. When this happens pay attention to what is going on inside of you. God has provided all of life’s answers in the Bible. Open your ears, mind, and heart and receive the truth and believe the truth of the Bible and reject your beliefs and mans false teachings. If you doubt what is being said, seek out the truth through scripture and not man. If you consult with man, demand all that is said be backed up with Bible verses and write the verses down and then read the chapters the verses are in to make sure you get the correct meaning. Don’t allow the sin nature to block what is being said. It could be God’s last attempt to reach you before He turns his back on you and allows you to do as you please. Romans 1:24-25 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,  25  who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
The verses in this lesson are about the woes of the Trumpet Judgments. The study of these Trumpet Judgments has brought to my attention the word third. Just in this week’s lesson of seven verses the word is used 12 times. It is only mentioned 3 more times after these verses in the remainder of the trumpets. Whenever I come across three or third in the Bible I relate it to Jesus being delivered from death on the third day. Many times this is the case when third or three are mentioned, someone or something, is being delivered from a situation. Could it be that God is giving mankind a chance to repent, and if they do, He would deliver them and the universe from destruction/death? As we go through the Trumpet Judgments pay attention to what third refers to.
7    The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth. And a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up.
About 3 months after I was saved I had a dream about this verse. I remember it vividly as though it actually happened. It was the middle of the night, and I was sleeping in the house I’m presently living in, on the sofa in the front room. I woke up and noticed there was an orange glow outside the window. I got up and looked out and it was hailing fire (It was like balls of fire about the size of golf balls with fiery tails.). It was burning up all the leaves on the trees and the grass. I turned around and went back to sleep on the sofa with this thought. The end is very near and I wasn’t concerned one little bit about the house catching on fire or anything like that. I said to myself God will take care of me. When I woke up the next morning (in my dream) there was a stranger/guest (Don’t know who it was.) in the house and I was trying to tell him about the fire raining down and all the leaves on the trees and grass was burnt up. Whoever this person was wouldn’t listen to me, and as I started to lead him to the window, the dream came to an end. Was this one of God’s messengers?
This plague models one of the plagues God pour out on Egypt. Exodus 9:23 And Moses stretched out his rod toward heaven; and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire darted to the ground. And the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt. If God’s wrath was poured out on Egypt then we can be assured that this is true and will happen. Joel prophesies this in Joel 2:30-31 "And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke.  31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD. The hail in Egypt’s time destroyed man, beast, crops, and trees. Anything that was outside was destroyed because the hail stones were very large.
The one main difference to note about this future woe is there will be blood mingled in also. Why blood, what is the significance of blood. It is the shed blood of Jesus because. He died for all so people can choose to be saved by His sacrificed life but was rejected by Jew and gentile. The blood signifies a judgment of rejection being placed on non-believers.
This is all going to take place in the Mediterranean area which includes the geography of the once Roman Empire (North Africa, the Middle East, much of Europe, and even a part of England). A third of this area will be affected.
8    Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood.
The second Trumpet sounds and this woe is also model (Exodus) and prophesied (Daniel) in the Old Testament. Exodus 7:20-21 And Moses and Aaron did so, just as the LORD commanded. So he lifted up the rod and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants. And all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.  21 The fish that were in the river died, the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink the water of the river. So there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. Jeremiah 9:13-15 And the LORD said, "Because they have forsaken My law which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice, nor walked according to it,  14 but they have walked according to the dictates of their own hearts and after the Baals,(Idolatry, what in your life comes before Jesus?) which their fathers taught them,"  15 therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Behold, I will feed them, this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink. There is nothing God can’t do. He created everything out of nothing and He can make anything happen. He has already proven these plagues are possible in Egypt long ago, so we know they are possible, and will happen again but on a much larger scale.
This great burning mountain is no doubt a humongous meteorite that will land in the Mediterranean Sea. This will turn 1/3 of the sea to blood. If you saw a fiery meteorite coming your way, would life be drained from you by fear?
9    And a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
This meteorite will cause great destruction as you can imagine. One third of the sea doesn’t turn to blood because of the loss of life from the sea creatures or the people on the ships; it turns to blood because God wills it. The sea life perishes because of the water becoming blood.
Can you even attempt to visualize what will be in the news media when these things happen? Scientist and world leaders will try to rationalize what is happening and not even think about God’s wrath. I also wonder how many people if any will start looking for their Bibles? Will there be so much dust on it they won’t be able to find it?
10  Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.
This is another meteorite, but this time it falls on inland waterways. It affects rivers, springs, and underground water supplies. How does this happen to affect 1/3 of the water supply in the Mediterranean area, we don’t know. All we have to do is believe it will happen, because God has stated this and all things are possible with God.
11  The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.
This water of gall is referred to above in Jeremiah 9:13-15. Wormwood is a plant that has a very intense bitter nauseous taste. So did people die of thirst or poison? Wormwood is a herb. The above-ground plant parts and oil are used for medicine. Wormwood is used in some alcoholic beverages. Vermouth, for example, is a wine beverage flavored with extracts of wormwood. Absinthe is another well-known alcoholic beverage made with wormwood. It is now banned in many countries, including the U.S., but it is still allowed in European Union countries as long as the thujone content is less than 35 mg/kg. Thujone is a potentially poisonous chemical found in wormwood. Thujone is the principle active ingredient in wormwood. Wormwood oil is approximately 40-60% thujone. Distilling wormwood in alcohol increases the thujone concentration. Thujone excites the central nervous system. However, it can also cause seizures and other adverse effects. Wormwood is safe when taken in the amounts commonly found in food and beverages including bitters and vermouth, as long as these products are thujone-free. Wormwood containing thujone is unsafe when it is taken in large amounts or over a long period of time. Thujone can cause seizures, muscle breakdown, kidney failure, restlessness, difficulty sleeping, nightmares, vomiting, stomach cramps, dizziness, tremors, urine retention, thirst, numbness of arms and legs, paralysis, and death. This wormwood in the water supply could potentially kill tens of thousands of people.
12  Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night.
This verse is not symbolic of anything. It is literal and will happen. Just exactly how this will take place we do not know, but when these things happen, people will sit up and take notice. This will no doubt cause things like tide and other astrological things to do strange things and will cause fear in the hearts of men, women, and children. There will be much anxiety and fear around the world. The news will be buzzing with these events. This verse goes hand in hand with Luke 21:25-26 "And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring;  26 men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
13  And I looked, and I heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, "Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!"
It is very possible this angel flying in the midst of heaven may be seen by the inhabitants on earth. This angel is announcing the last three trumpet judgments will be worse than the first four.

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.

Psalms 104:1-17 Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty, Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain. He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters, Who makes the clouds His chariot, Who walks on the wings of the wind, Who makes His angels spirits, His ministers a flame of fire. You who laid the foundations of the earth, So that it should not be moved forever, You covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters stood above the mountains. At Your rebuke they fled; At the voice of Your thunder they hastened away. They went up over the mountains; They went down into the valleys, To the place which You founded for them. You have set a boundary that they may not pass over, That they may not return to cover the earth. He sends the springs into the valleys; They flow among the hills. They give drink to every beast of the field; The wild donkeys quench their thirst. By them the birds of the heavens have their home; They sing among the branches. He waters the hills from His upper chambers; The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works. He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, And vegetation for the service of man, That he may bring forth food from the earth, And wine that makes glad the heart of man, Oil to make his face shine, And bread which strengthens man's heart. The trees of the LORD are full of sap, The cedars of Lebanon which He planted, Where the birds make their nests; The stork has her home in the fir trees.
In the name of Jesus we pray to you Father God. Bless us and our loved ones, and guide us in the truth of you Holy Word. Convict us of the truth Holy Spirit in a way that will bring us to our knees. Amen!
Revelation 8:1-6 NKJV
This lesson brings us to the introduction of the Seven Trumpet Judgments. As stated in a previous lesson the seventh seal introduces the first of the seven trumpets. All the judgments are recorded in the scroll that Jesus is unrolling. As we go through these judgments the intensity of each one gets greater and deadly for mankind and the universe. Do you remember what these judgments are? They are the Seven Seals, Seven Trumpets, and Seven Bowls.
As I read ahead about these judgments that God will pour out on people and the universe I shudder. These will not be pleasant times. You do not want to be here on earth during this time. Those that will be in close proximity to some of these disasters, will die out of fear. Luke 21:25-26 "And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring;  26 men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
I pray that the Revelation lessons so far has gotten you to think about your relationship with Jesus, and if you’re not saved, I ask the Holy Spirit to convict you in such a way with future lessons, you will seek Jesus in a whole new dimension and ask Him into your heart to rule and reign your life, so you will not have to go through the Tribulation if you are alive when it starts. How far away is the Tribulation? No one knows, but with each passing day and the events that are happening around the world, it isn’t far off. Do a little research and you will find the natural disasters that are happening are on the rise compared to 50 years ago. Yes society blames these things on global warming, but the truth is, God is sending wake up calls to the world, but the world is ignoring them because man thinks and believes they have all the answers through science.
After reading the last paragraph you are probably thinking, Bill what are you saying? Is the only reason to get right with God is so you won’t go through the trials of the Tribulation? No, I’m not saying that at all. If a person is not saved they need to seek a personal relationship with Jesus so that when one dies or is alive when the Rapture happens they will go to Heaven for eternity and be with their Creator and Saviour. What I’m saying is the Book of Revelation has brought fear into people’s lives by realizing they are sinners by birth, and they have repented of their sins because they realized there is a Hell which is eternal punishment. Just like the Book of Romans that has brought multitudes to their knees in repentance by means of the Holy Spirit convicting them of the truth of God’s Holy Word, and revealing the deception of what Religion and manmade doctrine teaches.
It is the Holy Spirit that opens the door of our soul and spirit to be convicted of our false beliefs and the truth is revealed if we will allow it. Many times our flesh will not allow it because we think we know best and cling to our tradition, religious beliefs, manmade rules, upbringing, etc. and will not allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives.
OK, I’d had better get going on this week’s lesson, so let’s see what scripture has for us.
1  When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven; This silence that takes place in Heaven is in expectation of what will happen next. So far the opening of the first six seals some pretty awful things took place, or will take place. Do you remember what the first six seals revealed? The four horsemen, seals 1-4 representing the Antichrist, wars, famine, and death; the martyred souls under the altar that would not deny Jesus name, seal 5; and the shaking of the earth, seal 6.
With those in Heaven seeing what has happened with the opening of each seal, are they concerned about what the seventh seal is to reveal? Yes they are! The expectation of what woe it will bring upon those on earth, is such that its opening has caught the attention of all in Heaven causing silence.
Have you ever experienced silence due to some type of expectation about to take place? What about at a basketball game and the winning point rests on a free throw shot; or at a graduation and the silence of the audience in expectation of what the speaker or valedictorian has to say; or watching a suspenseful movie and all the previous scenes are leading up to something but you don’t know what. This is what takes place in Heaven causing those to be silent in great expectation of what is going to happen next. Jesus is reaching for the seventh seal and everyone sees Him reaching for it and this creates silence of great anticipation.
For about half an hour; John states the silence is about ½ and hour. We don’t really know how long of time span this will be, but with the suspense that is building it seems like ½ hour to him. It is the suspense of what is to come next that causes this to seem so long.
2  And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets.
Seven Angels Seven Trumpets

And I saw the seven angels who stand before God; These seven angels are not the angels referred to in previous lessons. The angels mentioned before represented the seven spirits of the seven churches that are sent out into all the earth. Revelation 1:4 John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, Revelation 5:6 And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
These seven Angels are totally different than the seven Spirits of God. Quite possibly Gabriel is one of these Angels, for he said to Zacharias, “I am Gabriel who stands in the Presence of God.” So we know Gabriel stands in the presence of God and who the other six are we do not know for certain. These Angels are God’s elite angels of high rank and are in the presence of God continually to serve Him. Luke 1:19 And the angel answered and said to him, "I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings.
And to them were given seven trumpets; These seven trumpets represent the next seven judgments that God will pour out on the world. Each of these trumpets will be a different misery to those on earth. Trumpets were used then for various purposes to summon an assembly; to gather the troops for battle; to inspire troops in conflict; to announce some type of decree. Here they are given to announce a series of important events producing great changes in the world. Trumpet examples:
Exodus 19:16 Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. Exodus 20:18 Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off. 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
3 Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar; This angel is of unknown identity and the fact that we don’t know who this angel is, makes no difference. If we were to know who this angel is it would have been recorded by John. This angel has a golden censer and stands before the altar of incense.
A censer is a small portable vessel of metal, fitting to receive burning coals from the altar, which incense was sprinkled on the coals for burning.
The altar is the “Altar of Incense.” This altar is of the same nature as the one God had Moses build and it stood before the Veil in the Tabernacle here on earth.
He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne; This angel was given a lot of incense because the occasion was one on which many prayers might be expected to be offered. The prayers of God’s Saints on earth going through the Tribulation, those Raptured up into Heaven, and the martyred souls under the altar crying out for vengeance. Now remember these Saints are God’s children. Individuals that have given their heart to Jesus and are cover by the atoning blood of Jesus. These are not man proclaimed saints.
The purpose of the incense is that it be burned and offered up the same time the prayers of the Saints are offered up. It was a Jewish custom to burn incense during prayer time or pray during the burning of incense. Incense was burned in the Temple twice daily. When the people saw the smoke from the burning incense, they prayed. Exodus 30:7-8 "Aaron shall burn on it sweet incense every morning; when he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it.  8 And when Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he shall burn incense on it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.
4  And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel's hand.
An incense burner filled with live coals was used in Temple worship. Incense was poured on the coals, and the sweet-smelling smoke drifted upward, along with believers' prayers ascending to God. Prayers are very precious in the sight of God, but at the same time imperfect. Incense added to our prayers is a type of sweet delight that symbolizes the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
5  Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.
This verse is telling us that God’s wrath will be poured out on earth in such a way that has never been seen before or in the future. Matthew 24:21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. It is also telling us the Trumpet Judgments will be worse than the Seven Seal Judgments.
God’s wrath is not to be taken lightly. Many people believe that God will look the other way or they can barter their way into Heaven. They don’t want to believe that He would send them to Hell for eternity because He is merciful and He will forgive them. The problem is that every human being has had a chance in their earthly life time to accept Jesus as their Saviour. God sent His only begotten Son to earth in human form to die in our place. What an act of love this was on God and Jesus part. There is no other definition of love! Yet only a remnant give their heart to Jesus. Our God is a just God, there is no gray area with God, only black or white; guilty or not guilty. There were only 8 people saved from Noah’s time because all other humans were living a life of sin. Only 3 people were saved from God’s wrath at Sodom and Gomorrah because of sinful life styles. This is what a remnant is!
Sin is sin in God’s eyes unless one is washed in the shed blood of Jesus our Saviour. If one is not saved and they keep all the laws except one and die without repentance, they are doomed for Hell. James 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
6  So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
The seven angels are getting ready to sound their Trumpets of Judgment. These Trumpet Judgments will start to take place a little before mid Tribulation. Next week we will kick off the Trumpet Judgment!
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,
for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…...
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
