Psalms 145:13-21 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations. The LORD upholds all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look expectantly to You, And You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works. The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. The LORD preserves all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy. My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD, And all flesh shall bless His holy name Forever and ever.
Father God we ask for your Spirit to light our path each day. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Book of Hebrews 12:12-29 NKJV
Had a question last week pertaining to the prayer stating, “send you’re Holy Spirit to us each day”. The Question was, “Where does the Holy Spirit go?” After thinking about the question I agree that the statement could raise this question. For a Born Again Saint the Holy Spirit never leaves us because He resides in our heart, but for someone not Born Again it is very good to ask the Holy Spirit to walk with them each day. It doesn’t hurt to ask the Holy Spirit to heighten our walk in faith daily, because as human beings we tend to get caught up in daily activities. I hope this helps explain what I was saying.
The balance of this chapter deals with: Renewing Spiritual Vitality verses 12-17; Glorious Company verses 18-24; and Hearing the Heavenly Voice verses 25-29. Keep in mind that last week’s lesson was on chastening by the Lord as we finish this chapter.
12  Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees,
Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down; Paul is painting a picture in this verse of the Hebrew believers that were discouraged. You can almost picture them walking around with slumped over shoulders and their hands hanging straight down at their sides.
And the feeble knees; Paul also adds feeble knees as they may have been totally discouraged and dragging their feet.
We to get discouraged just like the Hebrew believers, but Paul is telling them and us to strengthen our hands and knees; don’t let things get you down. We all go through tough times and these times may be the result of a calling from God we ignored, or it could very well be a chastening for something we have done wrong. We shouldn’t get down, but examine our life, get into the Bible, and seek God for answers.
13  and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.
And make straight paths for your feet; Paul is referring to us staying on the straight and narrow path toward Heaven. Through chastisement from the Lord and refocusing on the Cross of Christ we are then brought back to the straight path. Matthew 7:14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
So that what is lame may not be dislocated; When we veer off the straight path, we run the risk of dislocation, sprains, broken bones, so we need to keep the path we walk free of things that cause us to stumble. We need to separate ourselves from situations that cause us to sin. Matthew 5:29-30 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.  30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
But rather be healed; In making straight paths for our feet, then we will grow in faith and the sanctification process will continue to flourish.
God is not only a disciplining parent but also a demanding coach who pushes us to our limits and requires our lives to be closely controlled. Although we may not feel strong enough to push on to victory, we will be able to accomplish it as we follow Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to work within us at all times. Then we can use our growing strength to help those around us who are weak and struggling.
14  Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
If a person is Born Again they will love their neighbor, they won’t hold grudges, they won’t quibble over petty things, and the result will be peace and with peace comes holiness. A right relationship with God leads to right relationships with people. Although we will not always feel loving toward all other believers, but we must pursue peace to become more Christlike to see the Kingdom of God. Do you know anyone that calls themselves a Christian, that can’t forgive, therefore holds a grudge?
15  looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;
Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; We are to be an example for each other when it comes to living a Christlike life. We need to walk the talk and help our fellow brothers and sisters stay on the narrow path.
Lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble; Like a small root that grows into a great tree, bitterness springs up in our hearts and overshadows even our deepest Christian relationships. A "poisonous root of bitterness" comes when we allow disappointment to grow into resentment, or when we nurse grudges over past hurts. Bitterness brings with it jealousy, dissension, and immorality.
And by this many become defiled; If we don’t walk the talk by our actions then we not only sin, but also cause our brethren to sin. We have to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus at all times.
16  lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright.
Lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau; Fornicator is referring to Esau being an idolater here because his faith was not in God, but in himself. Any time our faith is in something other than God for salvation, then idolatry is practiced. Esau was also profane because he didn’t give reverence to God. A man is profane when he takes the name of God in vain, or treats sacred things with abuse and irreverence.
Who for one morsel of food sold his birthright; Esau not being a Godly man got caught up in the moment and sold his birthright for food because he was hungry. This is how our flesh and can cause us to sin and then we have to suffer the consequences, and sometimes it is long term consequences. Esau was in the Family of God, but was not of the Family of God. How often do you make decisions based on what you want now, rather than on what you need in the long run? We need to evaluate the long-range effects of decisions and actions.
17  For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.
For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected; If you know the story (Genesis 25:29-34; Genesis 27:36) at a later time Esau wanted the blessing but couldn’t have it since he sold his birth right. He wanted the reward of the blessing, but didn’t want to live for God.
For he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears; This phrase tells us for sure that Esau was not willing to repent and live according to God’s ways even though he shed tears. A person can shed tears and appear to repent, but still have a stony heart and continue to live a life the way they always have. If there is no change in a person’s lifestyle, which is proof of being saved, then they are not saved.
18  For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and tempest,
Verses 18 – 21 are referring to Mount Sinai and the Ten Commandments physical attributes. In other words the Old Covenant of attempting to live according to Law. Verses 22 – 24 refers to the New Testament and living according to Faith in Jesus sacrifice and resurrection. Jesus is a mountain that can’t be touched because the New Covenant, salvation, is about spirituality/faith.
If we rephrase this verse it would read like this: You have not come to a physical mountain that can be touched, or to a mountain of flaming fire, darkness, gloom, and whirlwind, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai. Paul is telling his Hebrew listeners that they can face God respecting His Law according to the symbols given here, or they can face Him through the Blood of His Son our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Exodus 19:12-19
19  and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore.
And the sound of a trumpet; Exodus 19:16. The sound of the trumpet amidst the thundering and lightening was so loud it increased the terror of the people.
And the voice of words; Spoken by God; Exodus 19:19. It is easy to envision what must have been the fearfulness produced by a voice uttered from the midst of smoke that covered the mountain, so distinct as to be heard by the hundreds of thousands of Israel, when the speaker was invisible.
So that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore; Exodus 20:18-19. It was so fearful and overpowering that the people earnestly prayed that if they must be addressed, it might he by the familiar voice of Moses and not by the awful voice of the Deity.
20  (For they could not endure what was commanded: "AND IF SO MUCH AS A BEAST TOUCHES THE MOUNTAIN, IT SHALL BE STONED OR SHOT WITH AN ARROW."
When God came and engulfed the mountain in smoke, the order was that man nor beast was not to touch the mountain, if they did they would be stoned to death. All of this portrays the Holiness of God. Exodus 19:12-13
21  And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, "I AM EXCEEDINGLY AFRAID AND TREMBLING.")
This tells us it must have been a sight that was indescribable for us to comprehend, especially if Moses trembled. The righteousness of God is something that should strike fear in any person.
22  But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels,
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem; Paul now switches his focus from the appearances of God with the Israelites to the New Covenant. Jesus is Mt. Zion, our living God, our salvation, our rock, our fortress, the one that intercedes for us to God the Father. Mt. Zion can never be reached through Law, only through faith in the works of the Cross.
To an innumerable company of angels; This refers to such a great number of angels that it is incomprehensible.
23  to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,
The general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven; This pertains to every Born-Again Believer from the time of Abel up to the Second Coming; the price was the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross!
To God the Judge of all; This is simply stating that God has judged all that are in the Church of the First Born. They are perfectly justified in His sight.
To the spirits of just men made perfect; This refers to justification by Faith in what Jesus did for us on the Cross.
24  to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
What Paul is saying here is that because of Jesus shedding His blood on the Cross for us by being the perfect sacrifice, He was granted the rights of Mediator of the new covenant for us. Jesus blood was so much more perfect, pure, and life giving, than any blood of an animal.
25  See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven,
See that you do not refuse Him who speaks; This is referring to Jesus, the Holy Spirit that speaks to us now since His Ascension into Heaven.
For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth; Refers to the Israelites and the many times God spoke to them, yet they rejected Him.
Much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven; Simply stating if we reject Jesus and the Cross then judgment is a sure thing. We need to listen to that little voice within us and go the direction it points us in.
26  whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, "YET ONCE MORE I SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO HEAVEN."
Whose voice then shook the earth; Refers to the Voice of God which spoke the Law on Mt. Sinai. His Voice then was of such magnitude, such power, and authority, that the mountain literally trembled when He spoke.
But now He has promised, saying, "YET ONCE MORE I SHAKE NOT ONLY THE EARTH, BUT ALSO HEAVEN; This is taken from Haggai 2:6. This refers to the First Advent of Christ, Whose Death on the Cross, shook both Heaven and Earth. Paul is saying the death and resurrection of  Jesus would bring about such change that it would rock Heaven and Earth with the introduction of the Gospel.
27  Now this, "YET ONCE MORE," indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.
What Paul is telling his listeners and us is this: With Jesus death and resurrection the things of the Old Covenant is dead. The Levitical Laws, animal sacrifices, rituals, etc., faith in these things of old are dead and leads to spiritual death. What remains is faith in the works of the Cross by Jesus and faith in Him for all things. The Ten Commandments are still alive and written in every Born Again Saints heart.
28  Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
Remember Paul is speaking to converted Hebrew believers and he is telling them if they remain faithful the Kingdom of God is theirs. They have the assurance of Heaven by faith in what Jesus did on the Cross for them and serving God only by the means of Grace. It is this Grace that gives a believer reverence and godly fear to serve God.
29  For our God is a consuming fire.
This verse should strike fear in the heart of any person. The fire of God will consume everything that is not Faith in Christ and the Cross. 1 Corinthians 3:10–17

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe it with your heart, Jesus will save you!

“Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness of all of my sins.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and have faith you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and lead me in a new life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.”  (John 3:16,17; Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 John 5:11-14; 1:6-10) (Sin: Rom. 1:22-32; Gal. 5:19-21; Eph. 5:3-7)

Psalms 145:1-12 A psalm of praise of David. I will exalt You, my God and King, and praise Your name forever and ever. I will praise You every day; yes, I will praise You forever. Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure His greatness. Let each generation tell its children of Your mighty acts; let them proclaim Your power. I will meditate on Your majestic, glorious splendor and Your wonderful miracles. Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim Your greatness. Everyone will share the story of Your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about Your righteousness. The LORD is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. The LORD is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all His creation. All of Your works will thank You, LORD, and Your faithful followers will praise You. They will speak of the glory of Your kingdom; they will give examples of Your power. They will tell about Your mighty deeds and about the majesty and glory of Your reign.
Father God send you’re Holy Spirit to us each day to guide us in running the race of faith. Open our hearts so that we know when your Holy Spirit chastens us. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Book of Hebrews 12:1-11 NKJV
Only a few lessons left in this book of Hebrews. I must say it has been a very enlightening book which I have learned a great deal and have applied things to my life to come closer to Jesus. I truly hope that it has made you think and that some things have changed in your life so you are walking closer to Jesus.
Verses one through four of this lesson is about a race of faith. Do we have endurance to stay in the race to receive our reward? Do you have the correct food to nourish you spiritually? Do you run the race at a fast pace and then have to stop and rest or do you go at a steady pace? If you run the race fast and then stop and rest, be cautious of that old Devil cause he will move in with the temptation of his world. We have to be vigilant at all times to run the race of faith and stay on the lighted path.
Verses five through eleven deals with the children of God being chastised or disciplined by Him, just as parents correct their children as they are growing up, God also corrects His Born Again children as they grow in faith. If the Holy Spirit doesn’t discipline us as we grow in faith we lose sight of the lighted path that we are to follow. We then fall victim to the lust of our flesh and the lure of the world. With the genetic seed that the Devil planted deep within each of us, the sin nature, we will drift away from God. That is why we need to keep our eyes focused on Jesus and stay on the lighted path the Holy Spirit guides us down. If we allow that seed (sin nature) to grow to full maturity, we will fall from God’s Grace. Being a Christian is no easy task, in fact it is a battle and a race we must continue in at a steady pace each day, and with the leading of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God we can run a race that is not filled with mountain peaks and valleys. We need to read the Bible on a daily basis because it is the armour that will help us in the race of faith. With that said let’s get started.
1  Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses; Who is this huge cloud of witnesses?  This "huge cloud of witnesses" is composed of the people described in chapter 11; it is those that lived by faith in the OT; it is those around us today that live for Jesus; it is Born Again believers. Their faithfulness should be a constant encouragement to us. We do not struggle alone, and we are not the first to struggle with the problems we face. Paul struggled because he stated in Romans, “why do I do the things I do not want to do”. We all struggle in our walk of faith. Romans 7:14-19 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.  15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.  16 If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good.  17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.  18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.  19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Others have run the race and won, and their witness stirs us to run and win also. What an inspiring heritage we have!
Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us; What are these weights that slow us down in our race to God’s Kingdom? If we are honest with ourselves we all have secret weights that bog us down and cause us to sin. They could be things like alcohol, pornography, gambling, using God name without meaning, sports, shopping, lying, gossiping, dirty stories, love of money, not being able of forgive, holding grudges, selfishness, etc. The list is long and if a person is plagued by a particular weight they need to give it to Jesus and pray, pray, pray about it to Jesus that you need His help to overcome this weight.
Long-distance runners work hard to build endurance and strength. On race day, their clothes are lightweight and their bodies lean. To run the race that God has set before us, we must also strip off the excess weight that slows us down. How can we do that? 1) Choose friends who are also committed to the race. Wrong friends will have values and activities that will deter you from the course. Much of your own weight may result from the crowd you run with. Make wise choices. 2) Drop certain activities; change your routine; examine your habits. These may be a weight that is restricting your race. 3) Get help for addictions that are disabling, talk to your pastor, submit totally to Jesus. 4) Read and study the Bible daily.
And let us run with endurance the race that is set before us; The Christian life involves hard work. It requires us to give up whatever endangers our relationship with God, to run with endurance, and to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to defeat sin. To live effectively, we must keep our eyes on Jesus. We will stumble if we look away from him to stare at ourselves or at worldly things. We should be running for Christ, not ourselves, and we must always keep him in sight. Luke 9:62 But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
2  looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; It is Jesus that will carry us through all trials and tribulations as long as we keep our faith in Him meaning staying focus on Him and what He did on the Cross for us. He is the Source and the Cross is the means.
Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame; The cross was a degrading way to die. It was used for the most wicked of people in that time, which Jesus didn’t deserve, but He endured the death of the cross because he loved us and knew the happiness which he would experience from the consciousness that he had redeemed the world. He was willing to bear the burden of our sins. It was a joy knowing that redemption would be possible for all that would seek Him.
And has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God; Being seated at the right hand of God signifies His work at the Cross was finished and that God fully accepted His Sacrifice.
3  For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.
For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself; “Him” is referring to Jesus and all the hostility that was directed toward Him from all of Israel’s leaders and the Jews that didn’t believe He was the Son of God. So we see two things here; 1) unbelievers are sinners and; 2) sinners are enemies of God.
Lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls; The meaning is, that there is great danger of being disheartened and tired out by the daily conflict of walking in faith. But with the bright example of Jesus who was never disheartened, and who never became weary in doing the will of God, we may persevere. The best means of leading a faithful Christian life amidst the opposition which we may encounter, is to keep the eye steadily fixed on the Saviour.
4  You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin.
The general sense of this passage is, “you have not yet been called in your Christian struggles to the highest kind of sufferings and sacrifices. Great as your trials have been, your faith has not yet been put to the severest test. And since this is so, you shouldn’t yield in the clash with evil, but boldly resist it.”
Jesus went to the Cross for us so we don’t have to be nailed to a cross for the reward of Heaven. All we have to do is believe in Jesus and place our faith in all that transpired at the Cross in our place.
We really don’t know what persecution is, compared to the Dark Ages, or even what is going on in the Middle East today. Here in America we may get our feeling hurt, but so far our life is not at stake, but I do believe there is a time coming when our life will be at stake and we will have to make the decision of not denying Jesus as our Saviour. Is your faith where it needs to be to stand up for the name of Jesus?
5  And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "MY SON, DO NOT DESPISE THE CHASTENING OF THE LORD, NOR BE DISCOURAGED WHEN YOU ARE REBUKED BY HIM;
And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons; Paul is using an example here of how parents correct their children when they do wrong. He is asking his adult listeners if they remember chastening their children. God does the same thing with those that are Born Again, His children. God corrects His children to produce positive effects in their lives, therefore, we ought to bear them patiently. Proverbs 3:12 For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.
"MY SON, DO NOT DESPISE THE CHASTENING OF THE LORD, NOR BE DISCOURAGED WHEN YOU ARE REBUKED BY HIM; This is taken from Proverbs 3:11. We need to be aware of God correcting us when we do wrong. “Chastening” is the act of correcting and not punishing. Correcting that will eliminate evil in your life and encourage that which is Righteous.
Do you examine your life when things seem to be going wrong? Is it sin that causes one’s life to be in turmoil? Something to think about, isn’t it! Everything that happens to a believer is either caused or allowed by the Lord. Are we vigilant enough to learn the lesson to be taught by God?
6  FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES."
This is also a quoted from Proverbs 3. It means that it is a universal rule that God sends trials on those whom he truly loves. It does not mean that he sends chastisement which is not deserved; or that he sends it “for the mere purpose” of inflicting pain, but it means that by his chastisements he shows that he has a paternal care for us. He does not treat us with neglect and unconcern, as a father may do toward his illegitimate child. The very fact that he corrects us shows that he has fatherly feelings toward us, and exercises paternal care.
7  If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?
If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; Chastening from the Lord is one of the greatest signs that He loves us, and loves us dearly. Chastening guarantees that one belongs to God the Father.
For what son is there whom a father does not chasten; We use many types of correction with our children to get them to obey, with the love God has for us, why wouldn’t He do the same for His Born Again Saints?
8  But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.
Let’s rephrase this verse: If God doesn't discipline you as He does all of His children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really His children at all.
What a strong statement Paul is making here. Many people claim to be True Believers, but continue in sin. There are many passages in the Bible that describe sin; Romans 1:22-32; Galatians 5:19-21; Ephesians 5:3-7. These people are never chastised by the Lord therefore showing they are illegitimate children. Their salvation is in something other than the Cross, like religious rules, regulations, a 12 step program for salvation, the purpose driven life, sacraments, etc. Each of us need to ask ourselves on a weekly basis, where is our faith, is it truly in Jesus or in one of the man made religions of the world. Do you get chastened by our Lord; do you hear the Holy Spirit when you do wrong or think about doing wrong?
9  Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?
Paul is again using earthly parents here as an example. If we understand we are to be subject to our earthly parents, then surely we should understand that we are to be subject to our Heavenly Father. If we aren’t subject to Him, we could lose our souls.
10  For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness.
Let’s rephrase this verse: For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God's discipline is always good for us, so that we might profit by sharing in His holiness.
The phrase, “as seemed best to them” refers to our earthly fathers disciplining us, and sometimes it may have been incorrect due to their human nature, but they did the best they could. We are disciplined according to God’s righteousness, which sometimes we find it hard to accept, but being children of God, and being chastened is what is needed so we can be partakers of His Kingdom.
11  Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
We respond to discipline in several ways: 1) We can accept it with resignation; 2) we can accept it with self-pity, thinking we really don't deserve it; 3) we can be angry and resentful toward God; or (4) we can accept it with open arms in response to the love we owe a loving Father. We need to humble ourselves and embrace chastening from God.
Who loves his child more, the father who allows the child to do what will harm him, or the one who corrects, trains, and even punishes the child to help him learn what is right? It's never pleasant to be corrected and disciplined by God, but His discipline is a sign of His deep love for us. When God corrects you, see it as proof of His love, and ask Him what He is trying to teach you.

Psalms 144:1-15 A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle—My lovingkindness and my fortress, My high tower and my deliverer, My shield and the One in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me. LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him? Man is like a breath; His days are like a passing shadow. Bow down Your heavens, O LORD, and come down; Touch the mountains, and they shall smoke. Flash forth lightning and scatter them; Shoot out Your arrows and destroy them. Stretch out Your hand from above; Rescue me and deliver me out of great waters, From the hand of foreigners, Whose mouth speaks lying words, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood. I will sing a new song to You, O God; On a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You, The One who gives salvation to kings, Who delivers David His servant From the deadly sword. Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners, Whose mouth speaks lying words, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood—That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as pillars, Sculptured in palace style; That our barns may be full, Supplying all kinds of produce; That our sheep may bring forth thousands And ten thousands in our fields; That our oxen may be well laden; That there be no breaking in or going out; That there be no outcry in our streets. Happy are the people who are in such a state; Happy are the people whose God is the LORD!
Father God guide us as we travel through this life here on earth. Help us to understand why we are here. Send you’re Spirit to us each day to guide us in obtaining true faith. Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Book of Hebrews 11:1-40 NKJV
This whole chapter is about faith. It is faith that we must have in order to be saved. The OT Saints had faith in God and that He would one day send a Messiah for them, the promise, but they did not see Jesus, yet they had faith in what God said. We have the scriptures that Jesus came, was real, died for us, was buried, rose on the third day, and ascended into Heaven. This is what we must put our faith in for salvation.
Faith is a difficult thing to grasp. It is something our senses cannot sense, therefore it is difficult to understand. This is why some people believe everything evolved over billions of years. It is something that is logical to them so they can believe in it. Faith is believing that God created everything out of nothing by speaking it into existence.
The definition of faith: 1) Complete trust or confidence in someone or something. 2) A strong belief in God based on spiritual fear of the hereafter, rather than proof. Number two is what causes a person to completely trust in God and believe what His word says.
Faith is in general the persuasion of the mind that a certain statement is true. Its primary idea is trust that a thing is true, and therefore worthy of trust.
Faith is the result of teaching (Romans 10:14-17). Knowledge is an essential element in all faith, and is sometimes spoken of as an equivalent to faith (John 10:38; 1 John 2:3). Yet the two are distinguished in this respect, that faith includes in it consent, which is an act of the will in addition to an act of understanding or consenting to the truth, which is the essence of faith. The ultimate position, on which our consent to any revealed truth rests, is the authenticity of God.
Faith in God can be compared to a jet plane. Most of us don’t really know all that makes a jet fly, but through our knowledge of what we have been taught, we place our faith in the engineers that designed the jet, the people that built the jet, and the skill of a pilot to fly the jet, to get us from point A to point B. It is the same way with faith in God. We don’t fully understand the Word of God or spirituality of God’s Kingdom, but through the teachings of the Bible we acquire knowledge and with knowledge we gain wisdom and with wisdom we grow in faith. It is then our faith in the message of the Cross that gets us from point A (Earth) to point B (Heaven).
Another good example of faith is the TV’s, smart phones, and radios in our homes. We don’t fully understand how we get a picture and sound from a TV or smart phone, or sound from a radio, but we have faith that when we turn it on it works. We have grown up to accept the workings of them without fully understanding how they work. It is the same way with God and His Kingdom, all we have to do is read the Bible, accept the teachings, and place our faith in the Cross.
Paul gives us his definition of faith in verse one being the substance of things hoped for, things of an intangible nature. Since Paul uses this whole chapter explaining and giving us examples of faith, to help his Hebrew listener and us to better understand the Gospel, I will only make brief comments. I think the verses pertaining to faith are self explanatory. I might also add there are many other examples that Paul didn’t mention.
Hebrews 11:1-13
1    Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
3    By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. (Meaning God spoke things into existence.)
4    By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks. (Abel offered the blood of a lamb, life giving blood, because of his faith in God. It is blood that sustains life! Cain was a cultivator of the soil, meaning he raised vegetables and fruits and his offering was unacceptable to God because there was no blood in his offering. You can’t get blood out of a turnip!)
5    By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "AND WAS NOT FOUND, BECAUSE GOD HAD TAKEN HIM"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. (Enoch please God with his faith in Him.)
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Faith in anything other than Christ and the Cross greatly displeases the Lord. This verse is a key verse in seeking God. Read it several times and let it sink in to your soul.)
By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
  By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;
10  for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. (Abraham knew all of this would lead to something Heavenly.)
11  By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.
12  Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore. (As hopeless as it may have seemed to Abraham and Sarah at their age, God delivered Isaac as He promised, and the many descendants of Abraham.)
13  These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. (All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, Jesus Christ, but they saw it all from a distance, understood it, and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.)
14  For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. (Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. Their faith was in God to provide a home, Heaven.)
15  And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. (If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back; This is symbolic in the OT and current times. Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph were buried in Canaan which they considered the promise land. Jacob had spent 20 years in Mesopotamia and Joseph died in Egypt, but both requested to be buried in the promise land, Canaan. As NT believers we look to the new life created in us when we were Born Again, and the reward of Heaven, not the old way of life and Hell.)
16  But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them. (This goes hand in hand with verse 15.)
17  By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
18  of whom it was said, "IN ISAAC YOUR SEED SHALL BE CALLED,"
19  concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense. (Abraham knew that God would deliver a Saviour through his linage, therefore he had faith that God would raise up Isaac if he was sacrificed.)
20  By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
21  By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.
22  By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones.
23  By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king's command.
24  By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter,
25  choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,
26  esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.
27  By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.
28  By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them. (Here again we have that life giving blood.)
29  By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.
30  By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.
31  By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.
32  And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: (Paul is simply stating that he could go on and on with examples of faith and martyrdom.)
33  who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34  quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
35  Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.
36  Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.
37  They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented—
38  of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.
39  And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise,(The Messiah didn’t come during their times, but they had Faith He ultimately would come, and He did!)
40  God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us. (This places it all on Christ, Who made it possible for both the Old Testament and the New Testament Saints the rewards of home; Heaven through Faith.)
I hope you have a better understanding of faith. Reading the Word of God, believing what it says, changing the way we live to conform to God’s standards through faith in Jesus Christ and what He did for us, is what it takes to enter into His Kingdom. Read the prayer below with your heart and make Jesus your Saviour today.
