Proverbs 11:1-10
1  Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.
2  When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.
3  The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.
4  Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.
5  The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.
6  The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the unfaithful will be caught by their lust.
7  When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of the unjust perishes.
8  The righteous is delivered from trouble, And it comes to the wicked instead.
9  The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.
10  When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices; And when the wicked perish, there is jubilation.
Father God, as human beings we are so gullible, help us to turn from false teachings and false teachers/preachers. Give us Wisdom concerning these lies. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Book of II Peter 3:1-9 NKJV
This week in chapter three Peter continues trying to convince his listeners to listen to him, pertaining to false doctrine and people that teach false doctrine. He deals with scoffers of the Gospel and their unbelief. Those that do not believe contend that things have never change over time, but Peter states that God has his own time frame and the end of the world will come when God says it is time. Some of the things the scoffers say are still being said today by unbelievers.
1   Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder),
Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle; With this statement we know that Peter wrote to this group of people previously. Evidently his first letter wasn’t clear on some points or needed to reemphasize his first letter to get what he said to sink in. We do know that as humans we can be stubborn at times accepting what God has in His Word for us to live by, therefore repetition is necessary.
In both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder; The main object of both epistles is the same, to remind those of important truths which have been taught before, but are in danger of forgetting or are in danger of being turned away by errors of others.
2   that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,
That you may be mindful of the words; Peter is referring to the doctrines; the truths; the prophetic statements that were made by him, the other apostles, and the prophets of the OT. Jude also warns his audience and us of the same thing in his epistle. Jude 1:17-18 But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:  18 how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. They both warn us of scoffers, unbelievers.
Which were spoken before by the holy prophets; Peter is saying the prophets of old spoke of the same things that he is saying. 2 Peter 1:19-21  And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;  20  knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,  21  for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. So just this statement tells us that the OT is the resource for the NT and the NT was all foretold by the OT.
And of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior; What Peter is stating here with this verse, is that he and the other apostles can be considered equal with the prophets to state and enforce the doctrines and duties of Christianity. They were inspired by the Holy Spirit just as the Prophets of the OT were.
3   knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,
Knowing this first; Anyone that reads the Bible must realize that every book of the NT, this topic is preached on. That being, false doctrine, ministers, preachers, teachers, priest, etc. Since it is preached on many times we need to really pay attention and analyze what is taught and what is in religious doctrine, and literature that is handed out. Does it line up with what is in the Bible, if it doesn’t then it needs to be discarded and not practiced. If a person doesn’t discard the false information and live according to it, then they are committing spiritual adultery. So as I’ve said many times read and study what is in the Bible so you will be able to discern the truth.
That scoffers will come in the last days; Scoffers is defined as to speak derisively, ridicule, mock, or jeer. It would be people of unbelief; someone that has all the answers and no matter what you say you will not change their mind even when you lay out all the verses of the Bible to point out the truth to the person and how we are suppose to live. All the Apostles dealt with scoffers probably on a daily basis. Where does this come from, that old inherited sin nature we are born with. That sin nature causes us to be prideful and sometimes arrogant in our beliefs. Scoffers could also result from ignorance because they have never read the Bible. Do you live according to the truth of Bible Scripture, or do you pick and choose verses you want live by; or twist scripture to fit your beliefs and  lifestyle; or take a short verse out of context to abide in? Are you open minded to accept correction when you are wrong about scripture or living a life not according to God’s Word? Can you change your ways when wrong is pointed out to you, or does your pride keep you from changing? Remember this, pride caused Lucifer to fall from God’s regiment of angels!
The last days is referring to the Church Age which we are living in right now and will continue until our Lord Jesus returns. We have scoffers to content with today just as the Apostles did and these scoffers didn’t believe in the Second coming of our Lord Jesus.
Walking according to their own lusts; Meaning living in the free indulgence of their sensual appetite.  2 Peter 2:10, 2 Peter 2:12, 2 Peter 2:14, 2 Peter 2:18-19
4   and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation."
And saying, Where is the promise of His coming; These unbelievers/scoffers wanted proof of Jesus return. They had been expecting Jesus to return soon but didn’t see any signs of what was being preached about, therefore discrediting the claims.
For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation. As proof of their disbelief these scoffers referred to the forefathers of the OT, who also spoke of the coming. These prophets were much concerned and troubled about it and expected that that day was drawing near, but they lived to an old age and then died, and the affairs of the world have gone on very much the same. This frame of mind also holds true for today. Ponder this for awhile; The “will” of a person usually has more to do in the denial and rejection of the doctrines of the Bible than the “understanding” has!
5   For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water,
For this they willfully forget; Here Peter makes some statements that the people of his time and our time forget; willfully forget! That God is in control and that events happen according to His will.
That by the word of God; It was by the Word of God that this earth came into existence and by His Word, it will be destroyed/cleansed one day. The thought being that everything depends on God’s Word or will. Genesis 1:6, Genesis 1:9; Psalm 33:9
The heavens were of old; The heavens were formerly made. Genesis 1:6-9 The word “heaven” in the scriptures sometimes refers to the atmosphere, sometimes to the starry worlds as they appear above us, and sometimes to the exalted place where God dwells. Here it is used as denoting the heavens as they “appear,” embracing the sun, moon, and stars.
And the earth standing out of water and in the water; Here Peter is referring to the mighty power of God and that He created this universe out of nothing. He took a mass of elements, referred to as water, and formed earth. Genesis 1:1-10  Scoffers forget that God made the heavens by the word of His command, and He brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water.
6   by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.
This verse isn’t referring to Noah’s flood but to the pre-existing condition prior to God creating earth. There is a belief that some universal catastrophe occurred before God created this earth spoken of in Genesis 1:10, where a flood destroyed earth and put it in the deluge state of being. The point Peter is trying to make is that God created this earth and God can destroy this earth and that is why we need to believe and take up the Cross of Christ daily, because we don’t know when Jesus will return.
7   But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
But the heavens and the earth; We don’t really know what Peter was referring to when he included “the heavens” in his description here. We know from verse ten below that the heavens will be changed somehow, but the question is does this include the third heaven where God resides? Ah, but I think we have a clue in Revelation 21:1-2 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven (This doesn’t say heavens it is referring to the first heaven our atmospheric heaven created in Genesis 1:7-8.) and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.  2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, (This heaven is referring to the third heaven where God resides.) prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. The inferno would not only destroy the earth, but would change the heavens, first heaven and the second heaven as they now appear to us.
Which are now preserved by the same word; The present day heavens and earth are preserved by God, dependent solely on the will of God. He has only to give command, and all will be destroyed. The laws of nature have no stability independent of his will, and at his pleasure all things could be reduced to nothing, as easily as they were made. A single word, a breath of command, from one Being, a Being over whom we have no control, would spread universal desolation through the heavens and the earth.
Are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men; What Peter is saying here is that the heavens and earth will be renovated by fire when the unjust are judged at the Great White Throne Judgment. 2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.  12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.  13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.  14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.  15  And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
8   But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
But, beloved, do not forget this one thing; Here Peter is saying fellow Believers considering that we have the Word of God, there is no reason for you to be ignorant concerning spiritual things.
That with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day; God may have seemed slow to these believers as they faced persecution every day and longed to be delivered. But God is not slow, he just is not on our timetable.
What seems to be a long time to us is a brief period with God. In the infinite life of God there is abundant time to accomplish his designs, and it can make no difference with him whether they are accomplished in one day or extended to one thousand years. Man has but a short time to live, and if he does not accomplish his purposes in a very brief period, he never will. God has the power to carry out His plan as He sees fit, whether one day or a thousand years.
9  The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
With this verse it should be easy to understand the delay in end time events. God does not will that any should perish, His nature is benevolent, and He sincerely desires the eternal happiness of all, and His patience or longsuffering toward sinners “proves” that He is willing that they should be saved. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe it with your heart, Jesus will save you!
“Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and have faith you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and lead me in a new life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.”

Proverbs 10:22-32
22  The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.
23  To do evil is like sport to a fool, But a man of understanding has wisdom.
24  The fear of the wicked will come upon him, And the desire of the righteous will be granted.
25  When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.
26  As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy man to those who send him.
27  The fear of the LORD prolongs days, But the years of the wicked will be shortened.
28  The hope of the righteous will be gladness, But the expectation of the wicked will perish.
29  The way of the LORD is strength for the upright, But destruction will come to the workers of iniquity.
30  The righteous will never be removed, But the wicked will not inhabit the earth.
31  The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, But the perverse tongue will be cut out.
32  The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.
Father God, give us discernment so we can reject false doctrine. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Book of II Peter 2:12-22 NKJV
Our last lesson ended with the doom of false teachers. This week we continue with these false teachers and delve into the depravity of the false teachers and the deception of false teachers.
12  But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption,
But these, like natural brute beasts; “But these,” is speaking of false teachers/preachers. These are pretty harsh words to be calling preachers and teachers of the Bible brute beasts. In Peter’s point of view he is comparing them to irrational animals that are often hunted and destroyed; that they are like fierce and savage beasts that exercise no control over their appetites; that seem to be made only to be destroyed. The word “natural,” means they as animals, are by nature following their natural appetites and instincts. False teachers and preachers exercised no more restraint over their passions than beasts do over their natural instincts. They are entirely under the dominion of the sin nature, and do not allow their reason or conscience to exert any constraint. Man has the ability to reason, and should allow it to control his passions. Brutes or beasts have no rational nature, and it is to be expected that they will act out their behavior they are born with without restraint. Man, as an animal, has many passions and appetites resembling those of the brute beast, but he is also endowed with a higher nature, which is designed to regulate and control his inferior abilities, and to keep them in subordination. If a man lowers himself to the level of brutes, his destiny will be like that of wild and savage animals (lions, panthers, wolves, and bears) that are regarded as dangerous and sought to be taken and destroyed. There eternal life will be of darkness.
Made to be caught and destroyed; This phrase is referring to the brute beasts. In Peter’s time he is saying they are not only useless to society, but destructive; and men feel that it is right to destroy them. So are we to assume that God made these beasts for the pleasure of man to destroy them? No I believe we are to live with them, unless they pose a treat to us, then remove them from the area, tag them for monitoring, and as last resort destroy if all else fails. What Peter is saying here is evil false teachers/preachers will one day meet their demise.
Speak evil of the things they do not understand; Many in our world today mock the supernatural. They deny the reality of the spiritual world and claim only what can be seen and felt is real. Like the false teachers of Peter's day, they are fools who will be proven wrong in the end. Don't take Satan and his supernatural powers of evil lightly, and don't become arrogant about how defeated he will be. Although Satan will be destroyed completely, he is at work now trying to render Christians complacent and ineffective.
And will utterly perish in their own corruption; Their views will be the means of their eternal ruin, just as the fierce passions of wild animals.
13  and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you,
And will receive the wages of unrighteousness; This is referring to a lost soul; eternal darkness; the Lake of Fire. False teachers may not receive the due recompense of their deeds in the present life, but one day they will, based on the government of God.
As those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime; When the word “carouse” is used we think of those out in the evening and dark of night; wild parties; drunkenness; fornication, etc., but what Peter is doing here is a giving a likeness of these evil night time people to daytime false teachers. Sin is sin no matter what time of day it is. False teachers go about in broad daylight lying and deceiving people.
They are spots and blemishes; This phrase is referring to self-righteousness resulting in a soiled unrighteousness. They are like a dark spot on a white garment.
Carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you; What Peter is referring to here is that people were supposedly gathering in the Lords name to partake of the Lord’s Supper, but these demented teachers were turning it into a festival of riot, disorder, carousing, and leading believers into sin. 1 Corinthians 11:20-22 Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper.  21 For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others; and one is hungry and another is drunk.  22 What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you. Jude 1:12 These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;
14  having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.
Having eyes full of adultery; Some think that Peter is referring to the men of a gathering lusting after the women present, but that’s not what he is saying at all. This is about false teachers/preachers attending a gathering with the intent of spread false doctrine about Jesus and Christianity. So what Peter is talking about is spiritual adultery. Preaching something that sounds good and right, but isn’t the Cross of Christ.
And that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls; These wolves were luring away believers that were weak in their faith, or were new believers. They were doing what they thought was right, because they were unsaved themselves and couldn’t discern the truth.
They have a heart trained in covetous practices; With the term covetous there could also be a motive of money to lure the weak away from the truth for their gain. It is possible they had a love of money and collected money at their so called teaching gatherings. The more people they can deceive and get to attend their church means more money for the false shepherd. This still holds true for today. False shepherds say what people want to hear, not what the Bible teaches.
And are accursed children; Paul also preaches against these false teachers and told the Corinthians, "So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord" 1 Corinthians 11:27. These men are guilty of more than false teaching and promoting evil pleasures; they were guilty of leading others away from God's Son, Jesus; and condemning themselves. Galatians 1:8-9 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.  9  As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
15  They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
They have forsaken the right way and gone astray; The right way meaning the path of righteousness, honesty, and integrity, but those not having their faith grounded in the Cross of Christ will veer off that straight and narrow path.
Following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; What is the way of Balaam the son of Beor? Balaam was hired by a pagan king to curse Israel. He did what God told him to do for a time (Numbers Chapter 22-24), but eventually his evil motives won out (Numbers 25:1-3; Numbers 31:16). When Peter stating “following the way” he is pointing out that they were following the ways of Balaam. These false teachers were imitating Balaam in the following things: in being professed religious teachers, or servants of God; in their covetousness; and inducing others to sin. Like the false teachers of Peter's day, Balaam used religion for personal advancement, a sin that God does not take lightly.
16  but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man's voice restrained the madness of the prophet.
But he was rebuked for his iniquity; Rebuked meaning that he was sharply criticized for his sins, actions, thoughts.
A dumb donkey speaking with a man's voice; Balaam was so caught up in his sins that it required a donkey speaking to get his attention. Peter is saying this of those caught up in the false gospel and people in general that we can get caught up in something and it takes a supernatural event to bring us back to reality.
Restrained the madness of the prophet; The madness or perverse plan of the prophet meaning not of a right mind. It is used here to denote that Balaam was engaged in an enterprise which indicated a headstrong disposition; acting contrary to reason and sober sense. He was so under the influence of covetousness and ambition that his sober sense was blinded, and he acted like a madman. He knew indeed what was right, and had professed a purpose to do what was right, but he did not allow that to control him; but, for the sake of gain, went against his own sober conviction, and against what he knew to be the will of God. He was so mad or obsessed that he allowed neither reason, nor conscience, nor the will of God, to control him!
17  These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
These are wells without water; The things false teachers proclaim have no life in them; eternal life. Just as an empty well doesn’t quench anyone’s thirst, false teachers and preachers bring no hope to the soul.
Clouds carried by a tempest; Stating the same as the previous phrase. Clouds that are carried by the wind and produces no rain, is of no avail.
For whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever; These false teachers only reserve a spot in the abyss for those that listen and abide by them.
18  For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.
For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness; Meaning false doctrine is often presented in such a way as to impress the listener.
They allure through the lusts of the flesh; Meaning money, materialistic things, worldly things, etc.
Through lewdness; The meaning here is, that they made use of every kind of deception to entice others under religious pretences. This has been done often in the world, for religion has been abused to give seducers access to the confidence of the innocent, only that they might betray and ruin them.
The ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error; These ravenous wolves lure back into sin, those who have just escaped from a lifestyle of deception.
19  While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.
What Peter is simply stating here is, how can an unsaved person that lives in sinful bondage bring salvation to another individual when they can’t recognize the sinfulness of their lifestyle. A person is a slave to whatever controls him or her. Many believe that freedom means doing anything we want. But no one is ever completely free in that sense. If we refuse to follow God, we will follow our own sinful desires and become enslaved to what our body wants. If we submit our lives to Christ, he will free us from slavery to sin. Christ frees us to serve him, a freedom that results in our ultimate good.
20  For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.
21  For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.
Peter is speaking of people who have learned about Christ, how to be saved, and have been saved, but then reject the truth and return to their sin. These people are worse off than before because they have rejected the only way out of sin, the only way of salvation. Like someone sinking in quicksand who refuses to grab the rope thrown to him or her, the person who turns away from Christ rejects the only means of escape Luke 11:24-26. Many of the modern Churches falls into this category. They have abandoned the Cross of Christ for other doctrine.
22  But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: "A DOG RETURNS TO HIS OWN VOMIT," and, "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire."
The meaning of the proverb here quoted (Proverb 16:11) is that they have returned to their former vile manner of life. Under all the appearances of reformation, still their evil nature remained, as does that of a dog or swine, and that nature prevails.

Proverbs 10:11-21
11  The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
12  Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.
13  Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding, But a rod is for the back of him who is devoid of understanding.
14  Wise people store up knowledge, But the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
15  The rich man's wealth is his strong city; The destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16  The labor of the righteous leads to life, The wages of the wicked to sin.
17  He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray.
18  Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, And whoever spreads slander is a fool.
19  In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.
20  The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little.
21  The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom.
Father God, give us discernment so we can reject false doctrine. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Book of II Peter 2:1-11 NKJV
Before I get started with this week’s lesson I need to correct a misstatement in last week’s lesson. This verse that I misread was called to my attention by my mother; Matthew 17:1 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves. I read this as John being Jesus half brother which isn’t the case although base on the New Testament we know that Jesus did have four brothers and at least two sisters. Do you see how we as humans can get pulled from the truth and head south on the trail of life? This is why we need to know Gods Word and study it constantly, because through reading and study the truth is revealed. This fits in perfectly with the second book of Peter, because this book is all about false teachers and doctrine that man has devised.
So here are some verses that support that Mary had other children after Jesus was born although she was a virgin before Jesus birth, but did not die as a virgin like so many believe. Let’s start out with this verse verifying that Mary did have marital relations with Joseph. Matthew 1:25 and did not know her (did not have marital relations) till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS. Mark 6:3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?" So they were offended at Him. John 2:12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days. (This verse separates his brothers from disciples, brethren, apostles, etc.) Galatians 1:19 But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord's brother Jude 1:1 Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ: (Jude was a brother of James, who was one of the leaders in the early church. Both of these men were Jesus' half brothers.). Here is a list of other verses to look up pertaining to Mary having other children. Matthew 13:55-56; John 7:3-5;(speaks of Jesus half brothers); Acts 1:14; 1 Corinthians 9:5.
Along with the false doctrine that Mary died a virgin, there is doctrine out there that says she was sinless. She needed a Saviour just like you and me. Let’s go to Leviticus 12:1-8 (look up and read) which speaks of a sin offering for cleansing after women gave birth to a male or female child. Mary was practicing the law of God because she was a sinner just like every other human being with the exception of Jesus Christ our Saviour. This verse verifies this; Luke 2:22 Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord. Mary needed a Saviour just like the rest of us do which is stated in Luke. Luke 1:46-47 And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord,  47  And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
So you see we need to read the Bible for the truth. Any time someone tells you not to read the Bible or a denomination has to teach you, beware, they may be hiding something from you and keeping you away from Jesus. If you truly want to know the truth, ask for Jesus help. Matthew 7:7-8  "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  8  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. So we need to grow in our faith and get grounded in the Word of God. Let’s see what Peter has in store for us in chapter two which starts out with destructive doctrines and the doom of false teachers.
1   But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you; Jesus had told the disciples that false teachers would come (Matthew 24:11; Mark 13:22-23). Peter had heard these words, and at this time he was seeing them come true and we also see them today. There are many in this world today that only teach the cotton candy gospel that brings no conviction or correction to the lives of the people they are to be shepherding. Just as false prophets had contradicted the true prophets in Old Testament times (see, for example, Jeremiah 23:16-40; Jeremiah 28:1-17), telling people only what they wanted to hear, so false teachers were twisting Christ's teachings and the words of his apostles.
Who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction; These teachers were belittling the significance of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. These teachers allowed and even encouraged all kinds of immorality, especially sexual sin. We must be careful to avoid false teachers today. Any book, DVD, tape/cd series, or TV message must be evaluated in the light of God's Word. Beware of special meanings or interpretations that belittle Christ and the Cross. False teachers will teach some true Doctrine, and then cleverly include false teaching with it. It is the introduction of false teaching alongside the True that makes it very subtle, and rescind/annul the Truth. All false teachers will bring eternal destruction upon their souls.
2  And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.
And many will follow their destructive ways; Peter states here that many will follow a wolf, and why is that? Is it because they are lazy and don’t want to read and study God’s Word for the truth; do they not care about their life beyond death; maybe they never heard of the Gospel; maybe they were taught not to believe? There are many reasons and this is why as a child of God we are commissioned to spread the true Gospel.
Because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed; Most people follow false teachers probably due to this more than anything else, and that is if someone is teaching, the audience believes they know what they are talking about. False teachers are viewed as professors of religion and that is what people want, religion. They don’t want to be told they are living a sinful life. In this way the truth is blasphemed.
3  By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.
By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; Covetousness simply put is to gain dishonestly. Covetousness is a grave sin, so wicked that Scriptures class it among the very gravest and grossest crimes (Ephesians 5:3). In Colossians 3:5 it is “idolatry,” while in 1Corinthians 6:10 it is set forth as excluding a man from heaven. Covetousness is the mark of cold-hearted worldliness.
So what was going on that Peter made such a statement? Could it be money? Teachers have a right to financial support (1Corintians 9:1-14; Galatians 6:6; 1Timothy 5:17-18), but is money the teacher's or church group's prime motivation? Before you send money to any cause, evaluate it carefully. Is the teacher or preacher clearly serving God or merely promoting his/her own interests? Will the person or organization use the money to promote valid ministry, or will it merely finance further promotions or extravagant lifestyles? If a teacher, preacher, or priest taught about how sinful we are because of the inherited sin nature, how many people would follow them? Without a following there is no money. As human beings we judge ourselves based on other human beings lifestyles not according to God’s precepts, therefore we like what is pleasant to our ears. We have false preachers on TV today that preach a sugar coated message to keep money coming in to support their extravagant lifestyle, so why wouldn’t it have been happening in Peter’s time? Is the leader offended when you ask for the scriptural backing behind his/her statements? Does he/she fudge on the facts when asked for evidence?
For a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber; What Peter is telling us here is that the judgment of false teachers does not go unnoticed by God. It may seem that way, but at some time in the future they will stand before Jesus and they will be condemned for eternity, unless they come to repentance by learning the truth.
4  For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;
The point in this verse and the next few is, that if God punished the angels who revolted from Him, it is a fair conclusion that He will punish wicked people even though they were and are professors of religion and not the true Gospel.
Peter appeals, therefore, to the case of the angels that had revolted. Their former rank, dignity, nor their holiness, saved them from being thrust down to hell, and if God punished them so severely, then false teachers could not hope to escape. The revolting angels Peter is referring to here is undoubtedly the revolt in heaven referred to in Jude 1:6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day.
What Jude is referring to is when these revolting angels left their place in Heaven and cohabitated with the women of the earth before the flood. (Genesis 6:1-4) These angels are bound up someplace in the deep abyss and are awaiting final judgment which will result in being thrown in the Lake of Fire forever.
5  and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;
This verse is a continuation of verse 4 simply stating that God only saved 8 people during the flooding of the world. God wipe the people out of the ancient world due to their wickedness and the cohabitation of the revolting angels. God didn’t want any of this wickedness to go on any longer. Even though Noah preached righteousness to the people, they wouldn’t listen just like the people of Jesus and the Apostles time, and even today people don’t want to hear the true Gospel therefore they bring judgment upon themselves.
6  and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly;
Here is another example of ungodly people that God wiped off the face to this earth because they were practicing sodomy. The fate of Sodom and Gomorrah is used as a warning to those who reject the gospel (Mat_10:15; Mat_11:24; 2Pe_2:6; Jud_1:7). The sin of sodomy is an offense against nature, meaning anything sexual other than what God intended for procreation. If God wiped out Sodom and Gomorrah, then why won’t He do it again with what is going on in the world?
7  and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked
Lot is called “righteous,” because he preserved himself uncontaminated amidst the surrounding wickedness. As long as he lived in Sodom he maintained the character of an upright and holy man. The corruption of Sodom was open and shameless; and as Lot was compelled to see much of it, his heart was pained. The word “oppressed,” means that he was wearied or burdened; the crimes of those around him he found it hard to bear with.
8  (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)—
This verse is telling us that Lot was a righteous person, living in surroundings of sexual sinfulness, and his soul was tormented daily by the sinful acts that he saw and heard. Why then did he and his family continue to live there? Theologians contend it was to be an influence on the people around him, preach to them, try to get them to change their ways, to be a light in a dark city.
9  then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,
With the examples above, we can rest assure that if we place our faith in what Jesus did for us on the Cross he will deliver us from our temptations, sins, and corrupt surroundings just like He delivered Noah and Lot’s families, but the unjust will be preserved for judgment day.
10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries,
And especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness; This verse is a continuation of verse 9 in describing the unjust. They are those that walk after things of the world to satisfy the lust of their flesh.
And despise authority; They despise the authority of Jesus Christ and His way.
They are presumptuous, self-willed; They are arrogant, prideful, and have all the answers.
They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries; They have no fear of speaking out against the Gospel, Jesus, and God.
11 whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.
Whereas angels, who are greater in power and might; Meaning greater than mankind.
Do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord; Meaning angels just state the facts to God. They abhor all vulgar and violent language.
