The Lord’s Prayer
6-8-2011 Vol. 4 Part 9
Psalm 143:6-12 NKJV I spread out my hands to You; My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah Answer me speedily, O LORD; My spirit fails! Do not hide Your face from me, Lest I be like those who go down into the pit. Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You. Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; In You I take shelter. Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness. Revive me, O LORD, for Your name's sake! For Your righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble. In Your mercy cut off my enemies, And destroy all those who afflict my soul; For I am Your servant. Father God we praise your name, you are our one and only God, the creator and ruler of all things. We ask that you reach out and touch our loved ones that may not know you, or have gone astray and not living the way you desire them to live. We praise your holy name! You are awesome! Thank you Jesus! Amen!
Lead us not into temptation:
Have you ever really thought about this part of the Lord’s Prayer? Scripture states that God does not test us. James 1:13 NLT And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, "God is tempting me." God is never tempted to do wrong, and He never tempts anyone else.  If God never tempts us then why do we pray this, “Lead us not into temptation”? It kinda makes you think the Bible is contradicting itself. We do get led into trials to test our faith, but that is not being led into temptation. After all Jesus was led into the wilderness. Matthew 4:1 NLT  Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. It is through trials and tribulations that make us stronger and more faithful Christians. Are we led into these trials by our flesh or Holy Spirit? I think we are led by both. James 1:14 NLT Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15  These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. We put ourselves in situations more than being led by the Spirit into them. Our human inherited sin nature is one of our biggest enemies when it comes to temptation. Galatians 5:17 NLT  The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. We must be always aware of this and not put ourselves into situations where we are tempted to do wrong. Things that would lead us away from God like what is in Galatians 5:19-21 NLT  When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,  20  idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,  21  envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. When trials and tribulations come along, stand fast so you can pass the test, because you will be rewarded for your faithfulness. James 1:12 NLT  God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.
Have you ever thought or wondered why Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tempted? After all Jesus is God, and He is pure and holy. Do you think Satan could have possibly thought he could cause Jesus to sin? This temptation by the devil shows us that Jesus was human, and it gave Jesus the opportunity to reaffirm God's plan for his ministry. It also gives us an example to follow when we are tempted. Jesus temptation was an important demonstration of his sinless nature. He would face temptation and not give in.
Jesus wasn't tempted inside the Temple or at his baptism but in the wilderness, where he was tired, alone, and hungry, and thus most vulnerable. The devil often tempts us when we are vulnerable, when we are under physical or emotional stress (for example, lonely, tired, weighing big decisions, or faced with uncertainty). But he also likes to tempt us through our strengths, where we are most susceptible to pride. We must guard at all times against his attacks.
The devil's temptations focused on three crucial areas: (1) physical needs and desires, (2) possessions and power, and (3) pride. (1 John 2:15-16 NLT  Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.  16  For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.) Jesus did not give in. Hebrews 4:15 NLT  This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin. He knows firsthand what we are experiencing, and he is willing and able to help us in our struggles. When you are tempted, turn to him for strength.
God allows certain events to happen in our lives. Take Job for instance. God allowed Satan to put Job to the test to try and get Job to curse God. Job 1:11-12 NLT  But reach out and take away everything he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!"  12  "All right, you may test him," the LORD said to Satan. "Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don't harm him physically." So Satan left the LORD's presence. Why do you suppose God allowed this to happen? Was it to prove a point to Satan or show us what true faithfulness is? God knew what the outcome would be. Job stood fast in his faithfulness to God. I think God allowed this to happen to show Satan that there are humans that have great will power to resist evil and also for us to have an example of what true faithfulness is when we have a difficult situation going on in our life. The book of Job is an inspiration to me when things aren’t going well. All I have to do is think about Job and what he went through and my problem is then diminished into a tiny speck. If you have never read the book of Job, I strongly suggest you read it and then recall it when things aren’t going well in your life.
What about Abraham? What kind of trial was this when he was told to sacrifice his only son? It was a trial of obedience and what was in Abraham’s heart. When he was about to kill Isaac, an angel of the Lord stopped him, and told him “Now I know that you fear God”. Genesis 22:12 NLT  "Don't lay a hand on the boy!" the angel said. "Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from Me even your son, your only son." Again I ask you this, God knew what the outcome would be, so who’s benefit was this for? It was a trial of temptation. Abraham had to be tempted not to obey God at some point during the journey to Moriah. What human father couldn’t have the thought of not killing his only son? Temptation can reveal what is in our heart by showing us our willingness to do things we hadn’t imagined we’d do. We all have areas of our heart in need of God’s sanctification, and these areas can be revealed to us through temptation.
Can temptation of life issues be used to cleanse and sanctify us as Christians? Life’s issues, meaning a person traveling away from home whether it be for business or pleasure. (Like visiting a friend in another state for a few days.) When a family person travels away from home, Satan is right there tempting you to do immoral things. Thoughts enter the mind that normally would not in the home setting. Things like carousing with business acquaintances, bar hopping with your friend you haven’t seen in a long time, entering into immoral establishments, drinking too much, etc. What keeps a strong Christian person from sinning in these situations? It is reviewing what is most important to them: their spouse, children, family’s future, reputation, the love of God, etc. A review of these most important things should be enough water to douse the flames of temptation. If it isn’t, then there is a problem. See Galatians 5:19-21 above.
Can temptation exercise our will? Paul tells Timothy this pertaining to training; 1 Timothy 4:7-10 NLT  Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives' tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly.  8  "Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come."  9  This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.  10  This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers. Never really thought about this much but this is very true. Thinking of my past life when I was living for Satan and then giving my life to Jesus, the temptation was very great at first with some things. As I grew as a child of God, the temptation of these things diminished to the point where it wasn’t an issue anymore. So temptation does exercise and strengthen our will to say no, like working out strengthens an athlete.
Can temptation be used by God to remind others of His grace and goodness? We have to answer that question with the events that Job endured. What comes to mind when you think about Job? Patience in waiting for God to answer questions, perseverance knowing God will not abandon you, position with God’s love for you, and peace by trusting in God. How we handle temptation in difficult situations can be a beacon of light for those around us. Think of Job and the four P’s when great tribulations arise, and Jesus Christ will shine through you.
So good things can come out of temptation, but we don’t want to go looking for ways to be tempted. We are human and we will fail without going out and looking for temptation, this is why we pray, “Lead us not into temptation”. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 NLT  If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.  13  The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure. If we go out looking for ways to test our faith, we may end up in a situation we can’t get out of, and besides that, being a Christian isn’t about looking for temptations.
There are six stages of temptation. Let’s take fornication or unwed couples living together as an example.
1.)   Deceit; we don’t recognize it at first, even if it appears wrong. Rationalizing of the situation begins and we become comfortable in the presence of the temptation.
2.)   Delight; Satan and our flesh encourage us to have a passion or desire for the thing we have been mulling over in our mind. We begin entertaining the desire in our mind in the form of pictures and thoughts.
3.)   Desire; it is natural to desire what one delights in, so the next stage is full blown desire. We want the benefit or pleasure that we believe the source of the temptation can bring to us.
4.)   Deliberation; we play with this thing in our mind. We weigh the pros and the cons, we think about the consequences, but not very seriously, we figure out how this thing can fit into our lives.
5.)   Defeat; this occurs when we cross the line, we reach out to possess that which we have desired. Our deliberation becomes a decision.
6.)   Despair; anyone who gives in to temptation, especially a major one, goes through a period of despair. The shame that comes after knowingly choosing to sin is overwhelming. If there is no shame and despair then this question has to be asked pertaining to the example above. Where do you stand with God? See Galatians 5:19-21 above.
Although we may feel guilty after being tempted, but we need to remember that temptation itself, is not sin. We sin, when we give in and disobey God (Ten Commandments). Remembering this will help us turn away from the temptation before committing the sin. There are four steps to combat temptation:
1.)   Fight; resist the devil. James 4:6-10 NLT  But He gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, "God opposes the proud but favors the humble."  7  So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  8  Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.  9  Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy.  10  Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor.
2.)   Follow; Jesus defeated temptation in the wilderness and we are to follow his example. 1 Peter 2:21-22 NLT  For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in His steps.  22  He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone.
3.)   Flee; run from situations that can lead us into temptation. 2 Timothy 2:22 NLT  Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. Romans 13:14 NLT  Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don't let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires. Joseph ran when Potiphar’s wife wanted him to sleep with her. Genesis 39:12 NLT  She came and grabbed him by his cloak, demanding, "Come on, sleep with me!" Joseph tore himself away, but he left his cloak in her hand as he ran from the house.
4.)   Food; when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness He quoted the Word of God each time He was tempted, it is written… it is written… it is written… We have to feed ourselves the Word of God to have the strength to say no to temptation. If we aren’t in the Word of God on a regular basis by reading it, taking it in, meditating on it, taking notes, we aren’t feed our spirit and providing it the vitamins and minerals to keep our spirit strong. We not only have to exercise to be strong, we also have to eat the correct spiritual diet.
We have to have the Word of God in our heart. Psalm 119:11 NLT  I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Each day we need to put on the armor of God to fight off temptation.

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God!

Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth,
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: How many foxes did Sampson catch, and what did he do with them?
Answer: Answer:  Judges 15:4-5 NKJV  Then Samson went and caught three hundred foxes; and he took torches, turned the foxes tail to tail, and put a torch between each pair of tails.  5  When he had set the torches on fire, he let the foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burned up both the shocks and the standing grain, as well as the vineyards and olive groves. You will have to dig out your Bibles and see why he did this.

The Lord’s Prayer
6-1-2011 Vol. 4 Part 8
Psalm 25:11 NLT  For the honor of Your name, O LORD, forgive my many, many sins. Psalm 25:18 NLT  Feel my pain and see my trouble. Forgive all my sins.  Psalm 32:1-5 NLT  A psalm of David. Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night Your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Finally, I confessed all my sins to You and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, "I will confess my rebellion to the LORD." And You forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Father God we praise your name, you are our one and only God, the creator and ruler of all things. We ask that you reach into our hearts and remove anything that keeps us from forgiving those that hurt us. Then and only then can we ask for your forgiveness. We praise your holy name! You are awesome! Thank you Jesus! Amen!
Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who have sinned against us.
This part of the Lord’s Prayer has to be the most important part of the whole prayer that Jesus is teaching us. Forgiveness, whether we are asking for forgiveness or granting forgiveness, our human flesh can get in the way. What a humbling thing it is to go to someone and ask for forgiveness. This means we are wrong in some way, shape, or manner. Our human flesh gets in the way sometimes when we need to ask for forgiveness, because we view our self as being right and don’t like being told or admitting we are wrong. I feel this is very evident here in the United States. Just observe the conduct of the people around us, pick up the paper, or watch the news, there is no respect of authority whether it be parents, teachers, supervisors, policeman, government, etc. When we are wrong, we have to swallow our pride, which is very difficult sometimes but we have to humble ourselves and ask for forgiveness if we are to stay in alignment with God’s will.
Have you ever noticed what the next two verses are about following the Lord’s Prayer? It is about forgiveness. We are to forgive in order for us to be forgiven by our Father. Matthew 6:14-15 NLT  "If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.  15  But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. If forgiveness isn’t important, then why did Jesus immediately state this after the prayer? You ask does this really pertain to current times? If you have to think and ponder that question, and toy with the idea of asking it, then I have to ask you this. What other parts of the Bible don’t you believe? The word is Jesus and Jesus was with God at the time of creation; John 1:1 NLT  In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. Jesus manifested himself in human form; John 1:14 NLT  So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son. Jesus proclaimed he was God; John 8:58 NLT  Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM!" God hasn’t changed and he never will.  Revelation 1:8 NLT ….. "I am the One who is, who always was, and who is still to come, the Almighty One."
Let’s take a look at a parable that Jesus taught us about forgiveness. Matthew 18:21-35 NLT Then Peter came to Him and asked, "Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?" "No, not seven times," Jesus replied, "but seventy times seven! "Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him. In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. He couldn't pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt. "But the man fell down before his master and begged him, 'Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.' Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt. "But when the man left the king, he went to a fellow servant who owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment. "His fellow servant fell down before him and begged for a little more time. 'Be patient with me, and I will pay it,' he pleaded. But his creditor wouldn't wait. He had the man arrested and put in prison until the debt could be paid in full. "When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him everything that had happened. Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, 'You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. Shouldn't you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?' Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt. "That's what My heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart."
To get the full effect of what this parable states I want to point out a few things. I used the NLT because in comparing it to the KJV, NKJV, NASB, & Douay-Rheims the terminology speaks for itself.
·         First, all seventy times seven gets the point across that is must be from the heart and not just lip service. (When we ask Jesus to rule our life, it must be from a sincere heart.)
·         Second, the king is God Almighty.
·         Third, millions of dollars refers to 10,000 talents which equates to more debt than any of us will ever incur. At that time, one talent was worth about 6 thousand days work, so it would have taken this man thirteen years, working six days a week to earn one talent. How anyone could compile a debt like this is irrelevant, the point being is he would never be able to pay it back in his life time. (This debt also represents the multitude of sin we have and can never be washed away with our good intentions or good deeds.)
·         Fourth, when the man begged for more time his master (our God) forgave his debt and wash the slate clean of any debt. (Jesus bore our sins on the cross and shed his blood to pay the debt of our sin nature and make us debt free, if we beg for his forgiveness and ask him to rule our lives we are forgiven.)
·         Fifth, instead of the servant learning from his own experience and exercising love and compassion, his sin nature took over (greed). When he saw a fellow servant that owed him money. He grabbed the fellow servant and would not extend him any time and had him thrown into prison. (Luke 6:35 NLT  "Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, ……..)
·         Sixth, his master found out by the grapevine what he did and he was summoned to appear before the throne, and the King (God) judged and condemned him to a life of torture (Hell).
·         Seventh, Jesus finishes with, “That's what My heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”
Forgiveness is something that God takes very seriously. I have had people ask me about forgiveness and I know there are things done to people that make forgiveness a very painful and difficult thing to do. Things like divorce, rape, child abuse, sex abuse, a loved one killed, etc. Things of this magnitude take time, and is very difficult to do in human relationships. A person goes through four stages, for forgiveness to take place. Dr. David Jeremiah states this:
§  “Hurting: When someone causes you pain so deep and so unfair that you cannot forget it, you are pushed into the first stage of the crisis of forgiving. There is hardly a person here who hasn’t felt the hurt that needed forgiveness. Don’t be afraid of the hurt. That is part of the process. We are often told as Christians that we are to take offenses in stride. No, offenses hurt! The Bible doesn’t mask the real hurts that life brings, and we should not either. Hurt is a signal to us that forgiveness is needed.
§  Hating: You say, “Hate can’t be godly.” Hate isn’t godly, but it is the second stage leading to forgiveness. You cannot shake the memory of how much you were hurt. You cannot wish your enemy well. Sometimes you want the person who hurt you to suffer like you suffered. You want them to hurt. You construct speeches in your mind, things you want to say to them.
§  Healing: With God’s grace you are given eyes to see the person who hurt you in a new light. Your memory is healed. You turn back the flow of pain, and your are free again.
§  Coming Together: You invite the person who hurt you back into your life. If he or she comes honestly, love can move you toward a new and healed relationship. The fourth stage depends on the person you forgive as much as on you. Sometimes they don’t come back and you have to be healed all alone. But you do get healed.”
So Jesus says this: Those who live by God’s forgiveness must imitate it. Imitate forgiveness as Jesus did when he was on the cross. “Luke 23:34 NLT  Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing." …….” There is no greater love and forgiveness than to forgive your enemies. Anyone, whose only hope is that God will not hold his faults against him, forfeits his right to hold others’ faults against them.
When we go to our prayer closets and we realize we have wronged someone, we need to seek that persons forgiveness so we can be forgiven by our Heavenly Father. Matthew 5:23, 24 By doing this we will come before God in a state that is pleasing to him and our prayers will be heard in a whole different way.
Can we be proactive about forgiveness? I don’t know for sure, but what if we started our mornings out like this; “God, sometime today someone is going to hurt me, and I forgive them already. In my heart I forgive them.” It would sure start the day on a positive note and when someone would hurt you, you could respond with, “That’s ok I forgave you this morning during my morning prayers.” It would sure take anyone by surprise and it would also let the light of Jesus shine through you!
So forgiveness is a very emotional thing depending on the situation, forgiveness can be easy or it can be difficult. If you are walking as a Born Again Christian, the love that Jesus has put in your heart, at your spiritual birth, will help you in the forgiving process. If you haven’t asked Jesus into your life, there will be a struggle to forgive due to the inherited sin nature and the want to strike back and get revenge. Keep your eyes focused on Jesus and ask Him for help, to forgive those in difficult situations. Jesus is the only way, truth, and life!

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God!

Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth,
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: How many rivers flow from the land of Eden and what are their names?
Answer: Genesis 2:10-14 NKJV Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.

The Lord’s Prayer
5-11-2011 Vol. 4 Part 5
Psalm 34:11-22 NKJV Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their cry. The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. He guards all his bones; Not one of them is broken. Evil shall slay the wicked, And those who hate the righteous shall be condemned. The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned. Father God you are an awesome God and words can’t describe you. Send your Spirit to teach us how to pray in a fashion that pleases you and gives you all the Glory. In Jesus name we pray! Amen!
Hallowed Be Thy Name
The word hallowed is maintained in most Bibles, due to its meaning of reverence. Webster has this to say:
HAL'LOW, v.t. [L. calleo, to be able.] 1. To make holy; to consecrate; to set apart for holy or religious use. Exodus 28:29; 1 Kings 8. 2. To devote to holy or religious exercises; to treat as sacred. Hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein. Jeremiah 17:22.  3. To reverence; to honor as sacred. Hallowed be thy name.
HAL'LOWED, pp. Consecrated to a sacred use, or to religious exercises; treated as sacred; reverenced.
In essence Jesus is teaching us to acknowledge and give praise to God for who He is before we go to Him with our requests. How many times do we start out with our prayers/request instead of praising and thanking God for all that he has done for us? I know I have been guilty of this. It is that old sin nature that gets in the way and we think about our self first and what we want. Could this type of habit get in the way of God answering our prayers???
When we go to church aren’t the services always started out with praise and worship hymns? Have you ever thought about this and that it models the Lord’s Prayer? It does, doesn’t it. But wait, what about this? Some churches have their choirs/musicians in the back, some in the front, and some on the side of the church. Some churches even have a highly raise platform/stage for the choir/musicians. Some churches applaud after each hymn and some don’t. We have to stop and think about why we are applauding. Is it the performers or is it because of the words of the hymn that has touched our spirit and we are applauding what Jesus has done for us? I pray and hope it is because the hymn has touched us and the applause is for what the lyrics stated, whether the lyrics are giving praise to God or because of what God or Jesus has done for us. So the next time you are in church and there is an applause after a hymn, stop and think why you are applauding. Is the applause for God or man? We want to give God all the glory not man.
When the Lord’s Prayer states “Hallowed Be Thy Name”, does that mean we are making God more holy than what He already is? No, we are only acknowledging who He is, how righteous, holy, exalted, glorious, merciful, loving, etc. We can’t raise God up any higher than He already is. He is above all. He is the creator of all things. He is the Alpha and the Omega. Revelation 1:8 NLT  "I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end," says the Lord God. "I am the One who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One." All of His names, from his personal name, Yahweh, to the names which describe His actions and character, reveal who He is. It is who God is that we hallow, when we hallow His name.
God has many names, in the Old Testament there are eight compound names that were used to call upon.
Jehovah Tsidkenu
The Lord Our Righteousness

Can our human minds comprehend who God is and how great he is? Just the Trinity alone is difficult to wrap our minds around. In the New Testament God revealed himself through Jesus Christ. How many names does Jesus have? Each name that was used represents something. Here is just a few; Bread of Life, Living Water, The Way, The Truth, The Life, Lamb of God, Rose of Sharon, The Door, etc. Each name gives a picture of who God is.
Jesus tells us we should Hallow God’s name, meaning reverence. When you hear someone say the Lord’s Prayer at church and then you bump into that same someone on the street and they use God’s name in a blasphemous way, you know they are only saying the Lord’s Prayer without meaning a single word of it. They are praying like the hypocrites in vain, just like Jesus warned us not to pray.
We Hallow God’s name by the way we act. If we act holy and upright on the weekend during church or church activities, but the rest of the week our actions are completely the opposite then who are we fooling. God know our heart and to hallow Him we need to relinquish our life to Him. We need to say to God my life is your life; let me live in such a way, let me walk in such a way, let me do my business dealings in such a way, let me conduct myself on my trips in such a way, let me interact with my family in such a way, let me be a good neighbor in such a way, etc. When people see you conduct your life in a fashion like this, they will say you are a person that reveres God.
We also revere God’s name by recognizing His presence in our lives. When we live our lives with God always in the fore front we bring glory to his name. David stated this in Psalm 16:8 NKJV  I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. If we include God in everything we do before hand, things go much smoother instead of trying to do them on our own.
Let me see if I can explain why worship to God is so important and the benefits that come as a result of heartfelt worship. Let’s take our relationship with our spouses for an example. What is your reaction to your spouse when everything between the two of you is going good and a lot of sharing both ways is happening? If he/she asks for something the other spouse is willing to honor the wish and vice-versa. If either tells how wonderful the other is and gives compliments, the recipient responds with answering the requests and with kindness. The same holds true in the work place. If a particular person you have to work with is always pleasant to be around and they ask you for help, you will probably be more than happy to help the person. What happens when you are around someone that is normally a grouch and they only think about themselves and don’t have anything good to say about anyone or anything? When they ask for help their co-worker may tell them to go take a hike.
Do you think honest sincere worship to God may result in more of our prayers answered? If we start our prayers out with them all being about me…me…me, do you think God listens as closely compared to if we started with praising Him? After all he did take on a human form, Jesus, and we know Jesus had feelings, compassion, sorry, anger, etc. God is suppose to be number one in our lives, so isn’t it fitting that when we go to God with prayer we should give Him praise, thanks, and all the glory before we get to our problems?
In thinking back over the years, I have to admit that since I’ve become one of his children I have had more prayers answered in recent times than before. In worshipping God more, my life has changed. When I include God in things I need to do around home, things get done much easier and with much less fatigue. When I include God with work tasks, the tasks go much easier and with less frustration and anxiety. When I worship God my fears are forgotten, I’m in his hands and have great peace knowing He is in control and will protect and provide. When I’m troubled at times and take it to the Lord and worship Him or pick up the Bible and do some reading the thing that was troubling me fades away. Worshipping God cleanses my spirit and refreshes me. Worship, Praise, and Hallowing Gods name, is a critical part if spiritual warfare, because Satan hates worship. Worship helps with putting on our armor daily in the battle with the world that belongs to Satan. Ephesians 6:11-13 NLT  Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.  12  For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.  13  Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
Perhaps the greatest thing worship does is prepare us for eternity. When we’ve spent our life worshipping the Lord on earth, it is a simple transition to “hallow His name” forever in heaven.
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God!
Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth,
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: Do you think God can guide animals to do his will?
Answer:  1 Samuel 6:6-16 NLT  Don't be stubborn and rebellious as Pharaoh and the Egyptians were. By the time God was finished with them, they were eager to let Israel go.  7  "Now build a new cart, and find two cows that have just given birth to calves. Make sure the cows have never been yoked to a cart. Hitch the cows to the cart, but shut their calves away from them in a pen.  8  Put the Ark of the LORD on the cart, and beside it place a chest containing the gold rats and gold tumors you are sending as a guilt offering. Then let the cows go wherever they want.  9  If they cross the border of our land and go to Beth-shemesh, we will know it was the LORD who brought this great disaster upon us. If they don't, we will know it was not His hand that caused the plague. It came simply by chance."  10  So these instructions were carried out. Two cows were hitched to the cart, and their newborn calves were shut up in a pen.  11  Then the Ark of the LORD and the chest containing the gold rats and gold tumors were placed on the cart.  12  And sure enough, without veering off in other directions, the cows went straight along the road toward Beth-shemesh, lowing as they went. The Philistine rulers followed them as far as the border of Beth-shemesh.  13  The people of Beth-shemesh were harvesting wheat in the valley, and when they saw the Ark, they were overjoyed!  14  The cart came into the field of a man named Joshua and stopped beside a large rock. So the people broke up the wood of the cart for a fire and killed the cows and sacrificed them to the LORD as a burnt offering.  15  Several men of the tribe of Levi lifted the Ark of the LORD and the chest containing the gold rats and gold tumors from the cart and placed them on the large rock. Many sacrifices and burnt offerings were offered to the LORD that day by the people of Beth-shemesh.  16  The five Philistine rulers watched all this and then returned to Ekron that same day.
