Psalms 139:13-24 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You. Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God! Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men. For they speak against You wickedly; Your enemies take Your name in vain. Do I not hate them, O LORD, who hate You? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You? I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
Father God, thank you for the gift of Your Son that died for us so we don’t have to die Spiritually. I pray for the movement of the Holy Spirit and fruit of Salvation for those that don’t know you as your child.  I pray and ask for this in Jesus name, Amen!
Book of Hebrews 9:20-28 NKJV
This lesson is all about the Gospel of Jesus, the Cross, the Blood, and what Faith is. If you haven’t given your heart to Jesus, today is the Day of Salvation for You. It is never too late or sin too bad that Jesus won’t accept you as His child if you repent and accept Him as your Lord.
20 saying, "THIS IS THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT WHICH GOD HAS COMMANDED YOU."
This verse is taken from Exodus 24:8 that Paul is quoting here. This is God’s seal, His solemn oath with the Israelites concerning the covenant He made with them.
Going back to verse 19 and reading it so we can understand what this verse is about goes like this; Hebrews 9:19-20 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, "THIS IS THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT WHICH GOD HAS COMMANDED YOU."
Saying, THIS IS THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT; Which means, this is the blood by which the covenant is sealed or guaranteed by God. It was the means used to confirm it, the sacred and solemn oath by God was sealed with blood. When this was done, the covenant between God and the people was confirmed as a covenant between Him and man.
When Moses said, “This is the Blood,” even though it was only the blood of animals, it represented the Son of God, and made the statement that this is the only way that man can be saved.
When we speak of “The Blood,” we are also speaking of “The Cross,” or of “The Gospel,” or of “The Faith.” They basically all mean the same thing! When the message of the Cross, the Blood, the Gospel, or the Faith is preached/taught, it is in reference to the shed Blood of Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection! I surely hope and pray that all can see the vast significance in all of this, and how important it is that our Faith be properly placed in what Jesus did at Calvary for us.
When Adam and Eve fell from God’s grace through disobedience in the Garden of Eden, eternal spiritual life was forfeited, which speaks of Heaven when we die. In other words, the life force that came constantly from God to Adam, and was intended to continue to come to all who would be born thereafter, was suddenly cut off. Due to Adam’s fall, it was cut off not only to the first man, but as well to all who would follow thereafter. Why is that, because we all come from Adam, so when he sinned, he sinned for all, in other words sin was engrained in his DNA and was handed down through generations to all of mankind including us of present time. When Christ died on the Cross He purchased back “Spiritual Life” with His pure and perfect Blood because He was without sin, He did this for us so those who will believe (John 3:16) can have eternal life by being Born Again. This is why Jesus stated this; John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."John 3:5-6 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
We have all heard the saying there were two Adams, the first being Adam, the first man God made, who fell from God’s Grace due to disobedience. The second is Jesus Christ who was pure and sinless. Do you understand that it was necessary for Jesus to come to earth as a second Adam in human form; to be perfect and sinless; to shed His blood that gives eternal spiritual life; to redeem mankind because of the inherited sin nature we have? When we were conceived and had our physical birth we were born of water/flesh. It is believing in Jesus and what He did for us as the second Adam that we achieve a spiritual birth meaning, being Born Again. This puts us back in God’s grace and gains us eternal life in Heaven. Nothing else, but understanding and believing in why Jesus had to come, and why He had to die on the Cross for us, so we could have a spiritual birth and eternal life in Heaven. This is why it is so important that one puts their faith in Jesus Christ and the Acts of the Cross and not in religion. This is what Paul is preaching to the Hebrew people and to us today, to deny their past, their heritage, their religion, what mom and dad taught them, what their interpretation of scripture was and place their faith in Jesus and His sacrificed blood. Salvation is by faith and faith alone! 1 Corinthians 15:45-50 And so it is written, "THE FIRST MAN ADAM BECAME A LIVING BEING." The last (Second) Adam became a life-giving spirit.  46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual.  47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven.  48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly.  49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.  50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.
WHICH GOD HAS COMMANDED YOU; The phrase, “Which God has commanded you,” presents the fact that everything in the First Covenant and in the New Covenant, is all of God, and not of man. If man adds anything or subtracts anything, he destroys what God has commanded us. Sad to say that man does add and subtract things from God’s Covenant and what is going on in society, religions, and around the world is the results. Man alters God’s way to fit their way of life because mankind views themselves as good and man measures their words, thoughts, and actions against other human beings and not Gods Ten Commandments.
In the transactions between God and man, though called a Covenant or Testament, it is definitely not a transaction between equals, or an agreement in this capacity. It is in fact, a solemn arrangement on the part of God, which He proposes to men, where He invites them to embrace. You see God doesn’t force anything on us that is why He gave us free will to choose Him and not the world. If we don’t choose God and the way of His New Covenant, our eternal fate is Hell.
The testator of the First Covenant was God, for it was God Who was the source of Salvation for believers in Old Testament times. But God was not yet ready to come in the Person of His Son and die on the Cross for man. Therefore, He provided a substitute that would typically represent Him in death, a death that would make the First Testament effective. This substitute was an animal, therefore the emphasis in the Old and New covenant bears the mark of blood, meaning physical death a sacrifice of life giving blood.
21 Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry.
This tells us that whatever man touches must be cleansed with atoning blood if it is to be used in service to God. It defines the awfulness of sin that has impregnated this earth.
22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood; This phrase states almost all things are purified with blood. We have talked about the washings in past lessons. There were water washing rituals in the Old Covenant such as a healed leaper had to be washed after being healed, the washing of baptism, there was washing of hands and feet of Aaron and his sons when entering the tabernacle, a woman had to be washed after her cycle, etc.
And without shedding of blood there is no remission; Why does forgiveness require the shedding of blood? Because there is no greater symbol of life than blood; blood keeps us alive. Jesus shed his blood; gave his life; for our sins so that we wouldn't have to experience spiritual death, which is eternal separation from God. Jesus is the source of life, not death. He gave his own life to pay our penalty for us so that we might live, eternally. After shedding his blood for us, Christ rose from the grave and proclaimed victory over sin and death.
23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these; This phrase is referring to all the things pertaining to the earthly tabernacle which is a replica of what is in Heaven. Being on earth and touched by sinful man they all had to be purified with sacrificial blood of an animal.
But the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these; These things that are in Heaven are cleansed with a more perfect blood, our Saviour’s blood.
24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands; This phrase is referring to the man made tabernacles that man made. Jesus was not a Levitical priest and therefore never entered into the Holy of Holies. His sacrifice was not made in the temple it was made in the open on the Cross for all to see and for all to come to Him and believe if they so desire.
Which are copies of the true; Again Paul states the tabernacles on earth are of man, but copies of what is in Heaven.
But into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; Jesus opened the gates of Heaven when He died and rose from the dead. Matthew 27:50-53 Then Jesus shouted out again, and He released His spirit.  51 At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart,  52 and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead.  53 They left the cemetery after Jesus' resurrection, went into the holy city of Jerusalem, and appeared to many people. He claimed victory for us by defeating Satan. Now He is seated at the righteous right hand of God to intercede for Born Again Christians. He is there on our behalf and can be encouraged by it. Christ is on our side at God's side. He is our Lord and Savior. He is not there to convince or remind God that our sins are forgiven but to present both our needs and our service for him as an offering. Hebrews 7:25 NLT Therefore He is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through Him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.
25 not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another—
All people die physically, but Christ died so that we would not have to die spiritually. He only had to die once for us because of His holiness making His blood pure and spotless that gives us eternal life, if we choose. We can have wonderful confidence in His saving work for us, doing away with sin; past, present, and future. He has forgiven our past sin, when he died on the cross, he sacrificed himself once for all (Hebrews 9:26); he has given us the Holy Spirit to help us deal with present sin; he appears before God for us now in heaven (Hebrews 9:24); and he promises to return (Hebrews 9:28) and raise us to eternal life in a world where sin will be banished.
26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; This phrase is referring to the Old Covenant and the yearly sacrifices priests had to make for people which were insufficient to forgive sin. Jesus wasn’t functioning as a Priest where sacrifices had to be repeated.
But now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself; The "end of the age" refers to the time of Christ's coming to earth in fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies. Christ ushered in the new era of grace and forgiveness, referred to as the Church Age. We are still living in the Church Age when the day of our Lord started it and it will be completed when He returns to wipe out evil, and reign as our King forever. He is our King of Kings and Lord of Lords and all will bow and every knee will bend before Him some day.
27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
And as it is appointed for men to die once; Do to the fall of man (the inherited sin nature), man is destined to die physically and spiritually when lost in sin.
But after this the judgment; This verse would be better understood phrase like this; “And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment”. Judgment is not a popular theme today, but the Bible teaches that judgment is coming. Do you look forward to Christ's return, or do you see it as a threat? As sure as death itself, judgment awaits! At God's judgment there will be no higher court of appeal should the verdict not be to your liking. If you hope for a favorable verdict in this court, put your faith entirely in Jesus and His death and resurrection. Pray today, now if you haven't before, for the freedom and pardon Jesus has won for you. Then rejoice that God's judgment of you will be based on the perfect life of his Son, Jesus. After that, tell others, for many will face an unfavorable judgment without Jesus.
28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many; The Cross of Christ was God’s answer for the forgiveness of sin. Faith in Jesus death and resurrection is the only answer. Just as the patriarchs of old had faith in God, we have to place our faith in Jesus for the reward of Heaven and eternal life with Him.
To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time; This refers God’s Saints (Born Again) waiting for the Second Coming of Christ, Armageddon.
Apart from sin, for salvation; “Apart from sin” refers to the fact that the Second Coming will not be to atone for sin, because that already transpired at the Cross. The Second Coming will bring all the results of Salvation to this world with Jesus as our Ruler.
Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe it with your heart, Jesus will save you!
“Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness of all of my sins.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and have faith you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and lead me in a new life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.”  (John 3:16,17; Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 John 5:11-14; 1:6-10) (Sin: Rom. 1:22-32; Gal. 5:19-21; Eph. 5:3-7)

I included some info about the Psalm at the beginning. I really like this Psalm and what it says.
CXXXIX.         PSALM ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-NINE
A.    THE AUTHORSHIP OF THIS PSALM—It is the second of eight successive psalms ascribed to David.
B.    THE ADDRESSEE OF THIS PSALM—It is addressed to “the Chief Musician” (the Choir-master).
C.    THE PRAISE OF THIS PSALM—It is one of the most highly-praised of the psalms. Perowne says: “Nowhere are the great attributes of God, His Omniscience, His Omnipresence, His Omnipotence, set forth so strikingly as they are in this magnificent psalm.” Aben Ezra says that it is “the crown of all the psalms.” Spurgeon says: “The brightness of this psalm is like unto a sapphire stone, or Ezekiel’s ‘terrible crystal’; it flames out with such flashes of light as to turn night unto day.” Many other glowing tributes have been paid to this psalm by eminent scholars and students of God’s word.
D.    THE THEME OF THIS PSALM—The relationship of man to the great attributes of God
E.    THE OUTLINE OF THIS PSALM
1.     The omniscience of God (139:1–6)
a.     God knows when we sit down to meditate and when we rise up to act.
b.     God knows our thoughts, however great the distance between us and Him.
c.     God knows and compasses (sifts, winnows) our deeds when we are walking in the day and after we lie down at night.
d.     God is acquainted (familiar) with all of our ways (our habitual courses of action).
e.     God knows our words before they are spoken.
f.     God shuts us in and lays His hand upon us to cause us to do His will.
Such knowledge as is possessed by God is beyond our power of comprehension, verse 6.
2.     The omnipresence of God (139:7–12)
We cannot hide from God or flee from God for:
a.     God is in both Heaven and Hades (the unseen world).
b.     God is in the most inaccessible parts of the sea.
c.     God is in the darkness and the night.
3.     The omnipotence of God (139:13–18)
(Or we might better use the heading: “The craftsmanship of God”)
a.     God formed (not “possessed”) our reins (the seat of our desires and longings).
b.     God wove us together in the womb.
c.     God put us together as human beings fearfully and wonderfully.
d.     God, in the lower parts of the earth (the womb), put our frame (“substance”) together as embroidery work.
e.     God saw our embryo (“substance” here in verse 16 has reference to a compact mass, the fetus or embryo) while it was yet imperfect (undeveloped) and He developed from this embryo all of our members as they were written in His book (His mind).
In verses 17 and 18, the Psalmist, as he did in verse 6, interrupts his train of thought by breaking forth in an exclamation of wonder and admiration. “How numerous are your precious thoughts toward me.”
4.     The omnirighteousness (omniholiness) of God (139:19–24)
a.     God destroys incorrigible sinners (139:19a)
b.     David sanctifies Himself from those who hate God (139:19b–22)
David hates them, counts them his enemies, and separates himself from them.
c.     God sanctifies His saints (139:23, 24)
All true saints, to some degree, have the desire for holiness that is expressed by David in these verses, 1 John 3:2, 3.
F.     THE LESSONS TAUGHT BY THIS PSALM
1.     We cannot hide anything from God.
2.     We cannot go any place where God is not present.
3.     We are so wonderfully made that we cannot fully understand ourselves.
4.     We should stand against sinners (as David did).
5.     We should desire sanctification from all sin (as David did).

Psalms 139:1-12 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, "Surely the darkness shall fall on me," Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
Father God, thank you for the beauty of the seasons you create. All we have to do is gaze at our surroundings, and what we see, tells us there is a high power that man. Give us the wisdom and knowledge to trust and believe in you.  I pray and ask for this in Jesus name, Amen!
Book of Hebrews 9:11-19 NKJV
This chapter gives us an understanding of the significance of blood and its atoning effect on sin and how the Old Covenant and the New Covenant both commenced with the shedding of blood.
11  But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come; Paul is making reference to Jesus being the good things to come. With His High Priesthood came the gift of Grace through faith. With proper faith in the Cross comes the expectation of being with Jesus after our physical death. The offering of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was perfect and only needed to be done once, reflects the inferiority of all the sacrifices of the Old Covenant. No longer were/are the sacrifices of animals necessary.
With the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation; This is referring to Jesus being our tabernacle. The tabernacle we abide in through faith. Jesus always was and always will be. He was not made by humans, therefore is not of this earthly creation. Jesus is not a building that will perish over time.
12  Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Not with the blood of goats and calves; We have discussed what this verse says previously. The blood of the animals that were sacrifices were not holy, therefore the sacrifices had to be repeated for the atonement of sin. This blood only covered the sin and did nothing to remove or cleanse the conscience of the person. There was no assurance that the sin was forgotten.
Life is in the blood, without blood there is no life. Let’s use a blood transfusion as an analogy for spiritual life. Animals perish, therefore their blood perishes, but Jesus blood is eternal because of its purity. A transfusion of animal blood, representing human acts or works, is only temporary and the results are death, physical and spiritual, but a transfusion with Jesus blood through faith in the acts of the Cross result only in one death, that being a physical death. Through faith our spirit lives for eternity. This is why the animal sacrifices were insufficient and always had to be repeated because they were of a human nature and not spiritual. Leviticus 17:11 NLT for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the LORD. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible.
But with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all; Jesus blood is pure and spotless, without blemish. His blood is therefore holy. Through the shedding of His perfect blood he entered into the Most Holy Place, Heaven, not made with human hands and He sits at the right hand of our Father. This act of love only had to be done once because Jesus was perfect and that is why He said, “It is finished” when He died on the Cross. John 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
Having obtained eternal redemption; Through this act of love for us there is a chance of eternal life in Heaven for all, if one so desires through repentance. This promise of salvation is now and until the Second Coming of Christ, the Battle of Armageddon. John 3:14-18 NLT And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,  15 so that everyone who believes in Him will have eternal life.  16 "For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.  17 God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.  18 "There is no judgment against anyone who believes in Him. But anyone who does not believe in Him has already been judged for not believing in God's one and only Son.
13  For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh,
Here with this verse and the next one, Paul is going back to the animal sacrifices and their temporary effects. Paul proclaims the effect of an external purification, a cleansing from ritual defilement, but that was as far as it went. Animal sacrifices could not take away sins.
14  how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
How much more shall the blood of Christ; Claims the fact that Jesus is holy therefore His blood is Holy and it has the power to forgive and forget sin through the eyes of God. Nothing else can or will.
Who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God; In this phrase, we learn Christ did not die until the Holy Spirit told Him to die, no man took His Life from Him, He laid it down freely. He could not have offered Himself without spot to God because God could only accept a perfect Sacrifice. When He died on the Cross, He took upon Himself the sin penalty of the human race, which was physical death; inasmuch as His Offering of Himself was Perfect, God accepted it as payment in full for all sin—past, present, and future, at least for those who will believe. John 10:17-18 "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again.  18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father."
Cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God; This refers to things that we as human beings think we can do to gain us entry into Heaven. As human beings we like to believe in ourselves to provide all that we need for life and that is where we fall short, because we are only thinking of physical life and not spiritual life here after. Normally we think if we try to abide by the Ten Commandment; go to church every Sunday and Holy Day; receive communion, be confirmed; confess our sins to man; be baptized; give money to charities; volunteer our time to charitable events; etc. we will go to Heaven. Now don’t get me wrong these things are good to do, but the questions you have to ask yourself is this; Am I doing it out of love for Jesus, or because someone told you to do it so you will look good to God? If you are doing these things because someone told you that good people do these things and it will get you to Heaven, then it is works. If you are doing it out of love for Jesus because He died on the Cross in your place, then it is faith that is working in your life. Faith in Jesus is the only thing that will get one to Heaven. Everything else like religion, rituals, denominational dogma, etc. is works.
It amazes me when talking to people when they say that only certain denominations go to Heaven. This is a pure sign they are living according to the teachings of the religion they belong to and practicing “works”. If this were the case then, Jesus is made out to be a liar base on John 3:16 "For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
These people are living like the Jewish people of Jesus and the Apostles time. Their faith is in the laws of the Old Covenant, their religion.
15  And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
And for this reason; This “reason” is referring back to verse 9 concerning the cleansing of our conscience through faith in the Cross of Christ. Through faith and the Gift of Grace from God we can have assurance that our sins are forgiven and forgotten. This is promised through the New Covenant, proclaimed by God. Jeremiah 31:31-34 "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD.  33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.  34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."
He is the Mediator of the new covenant; He is referring to Jesus, and He alone is the mediator because of His purity and self sacrifice of His pure and spotless blood.
By means of death; The death of Jesus was necessary for the atonement of all sin by man and was necessary if man was to be saved.
For the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant; This proclaims the fact that the death of Jesus Christ pertained just as much to those before the Cross as those after the Cross. His Sacrifice of Himself guaranteed their redemption, and we speak of all who had died in the Faith like Abraham, Job, David, etc.
That those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance; This also refers to those who had died in the Faith before the Cross. They are referred to as “the called.” The reason their Salvation depended on the Cross was because they understood the scriptures and were waiting for the Messiah. They believed in Jesus death even before it took place because of understanding what the animal sacrifices were all about and what they signified. In offering unblemished animal sacrifices, they were anticipating Christ's coming and his death for sin.
16  For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
This verse and the next one can leave a reader scratching their head wondering what its meaning is. There is one key word in these two verses that confuses us, and that word being, “testament”. If we substitute the word “will” for testament and do a little rephrasing, it would read like this. “Now when someone leaves a will/testament, it is necessary to prove that the person who made it is dead.”
Basically what this verse is saying is this. For a new testament (covenant) to be made it was necessary for Jesus to die. It was Jesus death and resurrection that started the New Covenant.
17  For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives.
Again let’s substitute the word “will” for testament and rephrase it so it makes sense to us. It would read like this then; “The will/testament goes into effect only after the person's death. While the person who made it is still alive, the will/testament cannot be put into effect.” So this verse is simply telling us that the New Covenant could not start before Jesus death on the Cross for our sins, and the next verse tells us why.
18  Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood.
The Old Covenant was started with the shedding of blood, animal blood and the New Covenant was started with the shedding of blood, Jesus blood. It is the prescribed order of God that blood of one life be sacrifice to give life to another, eternal life.
19  For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,
For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law; The precepts and laws this verse is speaking of, represents the Old Covenant, which is commonly referred to as the “Law of Moses”. Moses presented all the laws of the Old Covenant to the people. These laws are all recorded in the Book of Leviticus and broken down like this:
1. Laws concerning sacrifices (Leviticus 1:1-7:38).
2. The Tabernacle service put into operation (Leviticus 8:1-10:20).
3. Laws concerning purity and impurity (Leviticus 11:1-15:33).
4. The Great Day of Atonement (Leviticus Chapter 16).
5. Various Laws (Leviticus 17:1-25:55).
6. Promises and warnings (Leviticus Chapter 26).
7. Valuation and Redemption (Leviticus Chapter 27).
He took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people; The last part of this verse tells us the Old Covenant was consecrated with the blood of sacrificed animals. Exodus 24:6-8 And Moses took half the blood and put it in basins, and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar.  7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, "All that the LORD has said we will do, and be obedient."  8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, "This is the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you according to all these words."

Psalms 138:1-8 A Psalm Of David. I will praise You with my whole heart; Before the gods I will sing praises to You. I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. In the day when I cried out, You answered me, And made me bold with strength in my soul. All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O LORD, When they hear the words of Your mouth. Yes, they shall sing of the ways of the LORD, For great is the glory of the LORD. Though the LORD is on high, Yet He regards the lowly; But the proud He knows from afar. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
Father God, thank you for all you do for us and our loved ones. I ask that these lessons touch the hearts of those who read them and bring them into a closer relationship with You! I pray and ask for this in Jesus name, Amen!
Book of Hebrews 9:1-10 NKJV
This lesson is about the Old and New Covenant, the earthly and Heavenly Sanctuary, old and new ordinances, etc. We have discussed and explained some of these in earlier chapters of Hebrews, but there are some points I would like to bring out. The last half of this chapter also has some points that need to be brought out in more detail.
1  Then indeed, even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary.
Then indeed, even the first covenant; This references the tabernacle or earthly sanctuary which was the Holy Place (outer part of the sanctuary) and the Holy of Holies (the inner part of the sanctuary). This is where the service of God was celebrated under the Old Covenant. It also was a picture of what was to come in the future.
Had ordinances of divine service; The ordinances performed there were of a divine nature since they were all handed down to the Israelites through Moses from God.
And the earthly sanctuary; The earthly/worldly sanctuary, even though was constructed through the instructions of God and built by man, was far inferior to what is in Heaven that we will see one day.
2  For a tabernacle was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, the table, and the showbread, which is called the sanctuary;
For a tabernacle was prepared; In reference to what was made in the wilderness under the direction of God through Moses.
The first part, in which was the lampstand; This phrase is referring to one of the very first things God told Moses to construct. The Lampstand is referring to the golden lampstand. God gave Moses instruction in this order of things to build for the Sanctuary. The ark, poles to carry the ark, mercy seat to cover the ark, two cherubim of gold on the ends of the mercy seat, a table overlaid with pure gold to always display the showbread before God, pure gold dishes, pans, pitchers, and bowls for pouring, and then the golden lampstand. Exodus Chapter 25 gives all the fine details that God gave Moses about these things.
The table, and the showbread; The table I have already mentioned it sat just before the veil of the Holy of Holies and the showbread sat on it, but what is the significance of the showbread? I have found many things this showbread represents pertaining to the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. The book of Leviticus tells us about this showbread; Leviticus 24:5-9 "And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes (twelve tribes) with it. Two-tenths of an ephah (ephah = 3.84 quarts of fine flour) shall be in each cake.  6 You shall set them in two rows, six in a row, on the pure gold table before the LORD. (Some say the loaves were in rows while others say the loaves were stack one on top of the other. Based on them representing the 12 tribes and the following verse involving frankincense for a memorial by each of the tribes, I believe they were in 2 rows, not stacked. All of this is for a memorial of the everlasting covenant. Therefore the 2 rows of 6 symbolize the halves of the animals that Abraham cut in halves and placed opposite each other, and the Lord passed through them when He made His covenant with Abraham. Genesis 15:9-15 ) 7 And you shall put pure frankincense on each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, an offering made by fire to the LORD.  8 Every Sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel (The tribes supplied these loaves.) by an everlasting covenant. (The everlasting covenant goes back to when God made a covenant with Abraham. Genesis Chapter 15)  9 And it shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place; for it is most holy to him from the offerings of the LORD made by fire, by a perpetual statute."
Which is called the sanctuary; This should have been translated, “which is called the Holy Place.” The name Sanctuary, was commonly known as the whole structure.
3  and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All,
The second veil is the veil across the Holy of Holies, being the doorway. The Holy of Holies contained the Ark of the Covenant with its covering the Mercy Seat.
4  which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron's rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant;
Which had the golden censer; The censer was a “fire-pan,” made for the purpose of carrying fire, in order to burn incense in the Holy of Holies once a year during the time of atonement. Some disagree, with regard to this statement of Paul’s that the “golden censer” was in the most holy place. There is no facts given by Moses pertaining to the golden censer being in the most holy place, or in the description of Solomon’s temple, but the following considerations are food for thought.
(1) Paul was a highly educated Jew, and very familiar with what pertained to the temple, and gave such a description of it, that it would be in accordance with what actually existed in his time. The fact that Moses does not specifically mention it, does not prove that this golden censer was not in the most holy place.
(2) Aaron and his successors were explicitly commanded to burn incense in a “censer” in the most holy place before the mercy-seat. This was to be done on the great day of atonement once a year. Leviticus 16:12-13
(3) there is every probability that the censer used on such an occasion of atonement was made of gold. All the utensils that were used in the most holy place were made of gold, or overlaid with gold, and it is very doubtful that the high priest would use any other on such a solemn occasion. 1Kings 7:50
(4) as the golden censer was to be used only once a year, it would naturally be stored in some secure place, and the most logical place would be in the most holy place. There it would be perfectly safe because no one was permitted to enter there but the high priest. Being stored there it would be always ready for his use. Therefore this statement of Paul’s has the highest probability that this golden censer was in the most Holy of Holies
And the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold; The ark was the most sacred to the Israelites because it contained the two stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, the pot of manna, and the staff of Aaron.
In which were the golden pot that had the manna; In Exodus 16:33, it is simply “a pot,” without specifying the material. In the Septuagint it is rendered “golden pot,” and since the other utensils of the sanctuary and the ark was of gold, it can be presumed that this was also.
The manna in the pot was a perpetual reminder of the food eaten by their ancestors during their long journey in the wilderness, and of the goodness of God in miraculously supplying their wants. Since the manna collected daily would not keep, but this manna did, it was a perpetual miracle of proof of the presence and faithfulness of God. Exodus 16:20
Aaron's rod that budded; Aaron’s rod budded and blossomed as proof that God had chosen him to minister to him as a priest. The leaders of the other tribes were rebelling, and questioning the authority of Aaron. To settle the matter, God instructed Moses to take a rod or staff of office from each tribe with the person’s name on it, and placed them in the tabernacle. It was found on the next day that the rod marked with the name of Levi had budded, blossomed, and produced almonds. In perpetual remembrance of this miracle, the rod was preserved in the ark. Numbers 17:1-13
And the tablets of the covenant; This of course is the two stone tablets that contained the Ten Commandments. Their subsequent history is unknown. It is probable that they shared the fate of the ark, and were either carried to Babylon, or were destroyed when the city was taken by Nebuchadnezzar.
5  and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.
And above it were the cherubim of glory, overshadowing the mercy seat; "Cherubim" are mighty angels. One of the functions of the cherubim is to serve as guardians. These angels guarded the entrances to both the tree of life (Genesis 3:24) and the Most Holy Place (Exodus 26:31-33). With their wings "stretched out over the Ark's cover, the place of atonement," these two gold statues were believed to support God's invisible presence (Ezekiel 9:3; 10:4; 10:18). Here they are called "the cherubim of glory," referring to God's glory which hovered over the Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 40:34-36; Leviticus 16:2).
Of these things we cannot now speak in detail; This simply means that Paul had much more to say about these Cherubim, but did not desire to do so at that time.
6  Now when these things had been thus prepared, the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle, performing the services.
Now when these things had been thus prepared, the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle; Paul has described that the tabernacle was, and now he proceeds to show what was done in it. The priests always went into the first tabernacle, the outer tabernacle called the holy place. The holy place was entered every day to perform the morning and evening rituals.
Performing the services; Performing the acts of worship which God had appointed; burning incense, etc. Exodus 30;7-8
7  But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the people's sins committed in ignorance;
The high priest could enter the Most Holy Place, the innermost room of the Tabernacle, one day each year to atone for his sins and the nation's sins. On the great day of atonement Exodus 30:10, he probably entered the Holy of Holies three or four times, first to burn incense, Leviticus 16:12; then to sprinkle the blood of the bullock on the mercy-seat for himself, Leviticus 16:14; then sprinkle the blood of a goat as the sin-offering for the people, and then, perhaps, he entered again to bring out the golden censer. The Jewish tradition isn’t, that he entered the Holy of Holies four times on that day, however, the number of times is not certain, nor is it material, the only important point being that he entered it only one day of the year, while the holy place was entered every day. The Most Holy Place was the most sacred spot on earth for the Jews.
8  the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.
The Holy Spirit indicating this; This phrase is telling us that the Holy Spirit is in control of things of the Old Covenant (Levitical system of worship, and its Interpreter) and also of the New Covenant. It is the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus and it is the Holy Spirit that resides in a believer.
That the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest; Remember Paul is referring to the Levitical order and during that time Priest were the intercessors between the people and God. The Holiest of All is referring to the Heavenly temple where we go directly to Jesus for our needs. He is the intercessor for us. With His death on the Cross and He being perfect, He is our High Priest, and we no longer need the assistance of man (priests) to intercede for us.
While the first tabernacle was still standing; This is simply stating that while the Old Covenant was in effect, there was no other way, but Jesus change all that at Calvary. The curtain was removed from the Holy of Holies allowing us to go directly to Him.
9  It was symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience—
It was symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices; What Paul is saying is that during the Old Covenant, the temple and all the gift offerings and sacrifices was a representation of what was to come, meaning Jesus and what He did on the Cross.
Are offered which cannot make him who performed the service perfect; All the offerings and sacrifices the Levitical priests performed, the priests could not make themselves perfect because of their fallen sin nature. Because of this, these rituals could not take away sin, and remove the stains of guilt on the soul. Hebrews 7:11; 8:7; 7:27; 10:1; 10:11
In regard to the conscience; These rituals related mainly to outward and ceremonial rites, and even when offerings were made for sin, the conscience was not relieved. They could not relieve the  guilt; they could not make the soul pure; they could not impart peace to the soul by reconciling it to God. They could not fully accomplish what the conscience needed to have done in order to give it peace. Nothing will do this but the blood of Jesus.
10  concerned only with foods and drinks, various washings, and fleshly ordinances imposed until the time of reformation.
Concerned only with foods and drinks; This pertains to the Jewish laws of what was lawful to eat and drink, what animals were clean and unclean, etc.
Various washings; The Levitical laws also consisted of many types of washings such as washing of hands, body, utensils, baptism, animals to be sacrificed, etc. Exodus 30:18; Matthew 3:6; Mark 7:4
And fleshly ordinances; This is referring to all of the laws of the Old Covenant. They were all of flesh and not spiritual, this is why the Old Covenant was insufficient to take away sins where God would remember them no more.
Imposed until the time of reformation; This pertains to the ordinances that were only temporary in their nature, and were designed to endure until a more perfect system being introduced. They pointed to a better system, the Cross; they were not adapted to purify the conscience and remove the stains of guilt from the soul, only faith in Jesus and His death and resurrection can do that.
