Proverbs 18:1-12
1  A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.
2  A fool has no delight in understanding, But in expressing his own heart.
3  When the wicked comes, contempt comes also; And with dishonor comes reproach.
4  The words of a man's mouth are deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook.
5  It is not good to show partiality to the wicked, Or to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6  A fool's lips enter into contention, And his mouth calls for blows.
7  A fool's mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul.
8  The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles, And they go down into the inmost body.
9  He who is slothful in his work Is a brother to him who is a great destroyer.
10  The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.
11  The rich man's wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall in his own esteem.
12  Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, And before honor is humility.
Father God, it is all about faith in you. Help us through our daily lives to constantly be in You, by seeing your creation that surrounds us at all times. It is only through repentance and constant faith in Your Son Jesus that we are saved by Grace and not Works. In Jesus name we pray.  Amen!
Gospel of John 8:1-11 NKJV
The next morning Jesus returns to the Temple and resumes teaching. The first thing that happens is a woman is brought to Jesus that was caught in adultery. The leaders were looking for a reason to arrest Jesus so they bring this adulteress to Him to see what His answer would be in hopes of having a justified reason to arrest Him. They wanted Jesus to judge this woman on the spot so they could accuse Him and have Him arrested. It was a trap because they thought Jesus couldn’t answer it without Him violating their laws or Roman laws. They were sure, but Jesus sends them home with their heads hung low.
1  But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
With the end of last week’s lesson everyone went to their homes and I ended with where did Jesus go to lay His head down for the night? This verse tells us it was to the Mount of Olives. Jesus visited this mount several times to commune with His Father. It is also possible He ate with His dear friends Lazarus, Martha, and Mary, who lived at Bethany, not far from this mount, and then returned to the mount to spend the night praying.
The Mount of Olives lays eastward of Jerusalem about a mile. The brook Kidron runs at the base between Mount Moriah and Mount of Olives. This Mount actually has a small range of four summits, with the highest being about 2500 feet. It is recorded that the Mount was thickly wooded in Jesus day and rich in olive trees, which is why it is called the Mount of Olives. Some claim there are a few trees still remain from Jesus time, but it is also claimed that they were all cut down during the destruction of Jerusalem by Titus.
One day Jesus will return to this Mount and it will part in two as He stands on it. Zechariah 14:4  And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.
2  Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.
This is the day after the Feast has ended. Why would this verse state that Jesus came early in the morning? I take this verse as meaning right after sunrise. Based on what I have read, Jesus had a message for the people before they started their journey home. If He came late morning the multitude of people would probably be on the road homeward bound.
It states, “all the people came to Him”. We really don’t know how many people, but I’m sure it was a multitude and I’m sure many hearts were touched by Jesus words and they became believers.
3  Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,
Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery; I wonder if these leaders sat up all night plotting another way to accuse Jesus of wrong doing, after all they had to be very upset and wrought when the officers returned empty handed?
Here is one thing that comes to mind, was this woman really caught in the act of adultery? If she was caught in the act, then where was the man? According to the Jewish law, both man and woman were to be put to death. Deuteronomy 22:22  "If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die—the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel. Also see Leviticus 20:10. Here they were trying to trick Jesus but they were breaking their own law by not bringing the man. This shows how devious these leaders were and that they were serving their father the Devil.
And when they had set her in the midst; These leaders brought this woman and placed her in the midst of the crowd and proclaimed to Jesus what she had done. No doubt what they proclaimed was not stated quietly, but quite vocally. How humiliating this must have been for the woman. Put yourself in her place, would you like to be placed, let’s say on the field of the World Series or the Super Bowl and an announcement over the loud speaker that you were caught in the act of adultery?
Jesus confronted people with their sins, but privately, one example being the Samaritan woman at the well. We need to always use Jesus methods so as not to drive an individual away from Jesus. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to give us the words to use when witnessing.
4  they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.
If this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act then where was the man? This makes one wonder exactly how such a thing could be brought about. In other words, how could they catch her in the act, without some type of scheming in this matter? Even though the act of these Religious leaders is disgusting to say the least, one must not ignore the terrible sin of adultery and being a thief. A person committing adultery is also a thief by stealing that of another person.
5  Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?"
This is a very interesting verse and the outcome of this situation causes one to ponder. First let’s look at David he committed adultery and also murder, yet he was not put to death. As the next verses tell us this woman was not put to death either. The first Passover, the people that put blood (The blood of a sheep typified Jesus blood that covers a sinner.) over the door post was passed over, and I’m sure some were adulterers or murderers. Even Moses was a murderer, he killed an Egyptian. So why, if the law commanded an adulterer or a murderer be put to death, why weren’t they?
This all goes way back to the First Passover which typifies the future salvation that would come through Jesus. One that has their faith properly placed are covered by the blood of Jesus and the love, mercy, grace, and compassion through salvation is granted to the individual through repentance and belonging to God. But you contend the woman’s faith; what about her; where was her faith? We know Moses, the Israelites, and David’s faith was in God, but there is no evidence this woman’s faith was in God. This woman’s faith will be clarified further along in this lesson.
The audience of hundreds, who were observing that day, knew full well that this Law had not been applied literally, and that the Sanhedrin had not enforced it. They also knew that if they had endeavored to do so, Roman power would step in with a strong hand. So, it must have been obvious to the people of the hypocrisy of the Pharisees.
If He lets the woman go without the price being paid for her sin, then the entirety of humanity has nothing on which to stand, and will be ultimately destroyed; no salvation.
On the other hand, if He stones her to death as the Law demands, He would have been accused by the Romans as usurping authority, and would as well, have portrayed the very opposite of the Love, Mercy, Grace, and Compassion for which He was noted so strongly.
Nevertheless, none of that had any bearing on what Jesus would do. His actions were not based on what Rome did or thought, or on what the Pharisees would or would not do. His actions were based on the Word of God.
6  This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.
This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him; If He decided the case, they expected to be able to bring an accusation against Him, for if He decided that she ought to die, they might accuse him of claiming power which belonged to the Romans, the power of life and death. By bringing this woman before Him as a real live case, if this was true, He wouldn’t be able to give an opinion about a theoretical case. They were hoping for Jesus to judge her without authority or form of a trial.
These leaders already had a controversy with Jesus about the authority of the Sabbath, and they perhaps supposed that he would decide this case as he did that, against them. They were building a case against Jesus with many points; they already observed He was a friend of sinners by eating and entering sinners homes and they accused Him of being a wine bibber. These leaders were artfully plotting against Jesus.
But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear; The ground here was the floor of the temple which was paved. It was in the dust on the floor that Jesus wrote.
What do you suppose was going through Jesus mind when He stooped down? Maybe, I wish these people would leave Me alone; I really don’t want to answer their questions; go away. By stooping down Jesus was using His body language that He did not want to voice an opinion in this matter. He didn’t want to meddle in the civil affairs of the nation.
7  So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first."
Jesus reverses the questions asked of Him. He places the roll of being judge back on the accusers. By doing this Jesus upheld the legal penalty for adultery; He could not be accused of being against the law. But by saying that only a sinless person could throw the first stone, He highlighted the importance of compassion and forgiveness. When others are caught in sin, are you quick to pass judgment? To do so is to act as though you have never sinned. It is God's role to judge, not ours. Our role is to show forgiveness and compassion.
8  And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.
Jesus stoops down again and scripture states He wrote on the ground. What Jesus wrote, this time or the time before we aren’t told. It may have been just marks or doodling in the dust on the floor, but what His body language is stating is that He wasn’t interested in continuing this conversation.
9  Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one; This phrase is referring to the corrupt leaders that were present. Jesus struck a chord with these leaders. The Holy Spirit brought to mind the sins in their life; they had planks in their eyes; they need to clean their plate first before judging others. This is something all deal with on a daily basis, judging, because of that inherited sin nature.
Beginning with the oldest even to the last; This is pertaining to the Scribes and Pharisees that brought the woman to Jesus. The order that they left in was from the oldest to the youngest. This tells us that as we age we become more aware of sin in our lives. Age and experience often temper youthful self-righteousness. But whatever your age, take an honest look at your life, and recognize your sinful nature, and correct it.
And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst; This phrase leaves an impression that Jesus and the woman was the only one left, but they were left standing in the midst of the crowd that Jesus was teaching. The Scribes and Pharisees left.
10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?"
These leaders were so high and mighty when they came to Jesus with this woman, but soon learned they were no better than this woman of adultery. Jesus deflated them and they slowly slipped away in humiliation and not desiring to place judgment on the woman any more. They were just as guilty as this woman.
We need to examine ourselves daily and ask Jesus to help us overcome our sinfulness!
11 She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
There is one word in this verse that tells us this woman’s faith had been place in Jesus and she now claimed Him to be her Saviour, do you know what it is? “Lord”! Most probably she repented right there during this encounter and accepted Jesus otherwise she wouldn’t have said Lord.
These words spoken by Jesus were the sweetest words she had ever heard in all her life; He kept the Law perfectly by dying in her place, exactly as He did with all of us; that’s how He could let her go free, just like you and me.
So you see her faith was in Jesus just like David’s, Moses, and the Israelites.
Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe it with your heart, Jesus will save you!
“Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and have faith you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and lead me in a new life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.”

Proverbs 17:20-28
20  He who has a deceitful heart finds no good, And he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil.
21  He who begets a scoffer does so to his sorrow, And the father of a fool has no joy.
22  A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.
23  A wicked man accepts a bribe behind the back To pervert the ways of justice.
24  Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding, But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.
25  A foolish son is a grief to his father, And bitterness to her who bore him.
26  Also, to punish the righteous is not good, Nor to strike princes for their uprightness.
27  He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.
28  Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.
Father God, thank you for the love you shower on us, our needs being filled, keeping us safe in our daily tasks, etc., you are the one and only true living God. In Jesus name we pray.  Amen!
Gospel of John 7:45-53 NKJV
This lesson is about the two officers that were sent out to arrest Jesus and bring Him before the counsel of the Jewish leaders. Their hearts were touched by the words of Jesus and they came back empty handed. This caused the counsel to ask questions why they didn’t bring Jesus to them. Nicodemus also enters in the discussion in Jesus defense. One wouldn’t think much could be learn from these verses, but there is when the verses are broken down and meditated on. So let’s get started.
45  Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why have you not brought Him?"
With this verse many thoughts and conclusions can be made. These officers (verse 23 of this chapter) arrived in Jesus presence when Jesus was preaching to the crowd. Jesus words were so eloquent and truthful these officers were awe struck. No prophet, apostle, or minister had ever spoken the truth with such power, grace, and beauty as Jesus. We, also, should listen to his words, and sit at his feet and learn heavenly wisdom.
We also see here that wicked men can be restrained from doing wrong by the power of truthful words. The Holy Spirit was instrumental in affecting the actions of these men by opening their ears and minds to the truth.
We also learn that fully trusting in God for all things, God will send His Holy Spirit to watch over us and protect us until it is time for us to leave this earth.
Lastly we see that the Chief Priests and Pharisees fully intended to arrest Jesus when they asked the officers, “Why have you not brought Him?” There was questions previously as to whether these officers were to arrest Jesus or just bring Him before the counsel.
46  The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this Man!"
That which Jesus was teaching about was, “Living Water”. This Living Water, being Eternal Life is what the human heart longs for and this topic will capture the attention of man, as it did with these officers. These words of Jesus also identified who He was, where He came from, and where He would be going that they could not follow Him. The Holy Spirit anointed the words of Jesus so powerfully that the people were affected one way or the other whether positive or negative. If a person’s heart was somewhat tender toward God, then positive otherwise negative.
The actions of these officers shows us they had a tender heart, therefore did not arrest Jesus. In all their years of hearing all types of lectures, sermons, and Scripture studies, this that Jesus said was so strikingly different, so refreshing, so filled with life, that it caused all others to be insignificant.
47  Then the Pharisees answered them, "Are you also deceived?
This verse tells us that the Pharisees truly believed they had the truth, the right interpretation of scripture, and all others that taught a religion was false, and of a cult nature. They viewed themselves as the guardians of Israel.  It also shows us that the Pharisees were the ones mainly provoked to anger by what Jesus taught.
These words aren’t just for the people of Jesus time, but for us also. What do you believe in? Is the religion you are practicing a mere religion with God and Jesus interjected here and there? Is the religion you practice based on God’s Word or based on a book of man devised rules and regulations to get you to Heaven? Many people claim Jesus, but have their own interpretation of what Jesus states in the Bible and they disregard or twist the scripture to fit their lifestyle. It is easy to think that we have the truth and that those who disagree with us do not have any truth at all. But God's truth is available to everyone. Don't copy the Pharisees' self-centered and narrow minded attitude.
48  Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him?
Rulers, here is referring to those of the Sanhedrin, or of the synagogues; or the civil magistrates, the noble, rich, and wealthy.
Those asking this question of these two officials assumed it pertained to all of the rulers or Pharisees, but there were two starting to believe. One being Nicodemus, who was standing nearby listening to the conversation (John 3:1-2). He was not only a Pharisee, but was a “Ruler” being a member of the Jewish Sanhedrin, the highest ruling body in Israel. The other person was, Joseph of Arimathea, which fell into the same category (Matthew 27:57).
If these two individuals didn’t fully believe at this time, they were well on their way of believing. Why wouldn’t they be sticking up for Jesus and trying to persuade the other leaders of who Jesus was? Have you ever thought of that? Fear was probably the main factor; fear of being thrown out of the Synagogue, fear of persecution, fear of believing and then finding out they were deceived, maybe a combination of all. Fear can cause us to do things that we regret at a later time.
49  But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed."
What the Pharisees are saying here is this massive crowd that was listening and believing in what Jesus was preaching was not the law they believed in and therefore they were accursed for believing. In reality the Pharisees had no one to blame but themselves because they failed in teaching the truth of the scriptures. Therefore they supposed that any who believed on the humble and despised Jesus must be, of course, ignorant of the true doctrines of the Old Testament, because they expected a very different type of Messiah.
One of the things that angered the Pharisees, among all the other things, was Jesus kindness toward the multitude of people. He spoke to them with dignity and respect, treating them with love, ministering to even the most humble of those who came before Him. This showed up the Pharisees, so now they will vent their temper at this unwashed; unlearned crowd.
50  Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them,
Nicodemus finally speaks up here in defense of Jesus. Nicodemus was an elite member of the Sanhedrin, he greatly outranked the Pharisees. It had been about three year since he visited Jesus in the dark of night.
God often places one or more pious men in legislative assemblies to vindicate His honor and His law. He often fills a man with the Holy Spirit on such occasions to boldly defend his cause and to confound the proud and the domineering. We see in this case, also, that a man, at one time timid and fearful (compare John 3:1), may on other occasions be bold, and fearlessly defend Jesus and the truth. We saw this in Peter also when he denied Jesus, but in Acts he stood and proclaimed the Gospel. These examples should lead every man to defend the truth of God, and when people are pouring contempt on Jesus and His cause, to stand forth as its fearless defender.
Three years prior Nicodemus came to Jesus with questions and in reading the conversation that took place, there is no haughtiness in Nicodemus words, only humble questions of a curious heart. John 3:1-9 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.  2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."  3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."  4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"  5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.  6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'  8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."  9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?"
51  "Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?"
Here Nicodemus is reminding the counsel that they were breaking every law of justice. They were to be impartial in their judgment whether the victim was poor or rich. Leviticus 19:15 'You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor.
They were spreading false accusations against Jesus; they were joining with the unrighteous; they were inciting the crowd; they were testifying counterfeit incidents to pervert justice. Exodus 23:1-2 "You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.  2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice.
The counsel was to make careful investigations, which they weren’t, concerning the allegations being made. If the accusations were false then the accuser was to receive the punishment in place of the accused. Deuteronomy 19:18-19 And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testified falsely against his brother,  19 then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put away the evil from among you.
Based on the laws this counsel was breaking they should have all been placed on a cross. Nicodemus demanded that justice should be done, and that he should, not be condemned until he had had a fair trial. Every man should be presumed to be innocent until he is proved to be guilty. Oh how that old sin nature can raise its ugly head and cause us to be unrighteous at times.
52  They answered and said to him, "Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee."
They answered and said to him, "Are you also from Galilee; What a condescending statement from these leaders. What they are actually asking Nicodemus is, “Are you a follower of Jesus?” These leaders referred to the followers of Jesus as being from Galilee just because Galilee is where Jesus made His headquarters.
Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee; Here again this counsel failed to check out the facts as to where Jesus was born, which was Bethlehem, just at the prophets foretold. If these leaders knew of Jesus birthplace, they were ignoring the facts to promote their own wants and desires. We see this today in many forms, some politicians, some teachers, some supervisors, some coworkers, etc. These kinds of actions are due to pride and the promoting of self, meaning climbing the corporate ladder, sustaining a current position, haughtiness, arrogance, and conceit. These are all sinful from the view of Jesus. This type of personality is not love thy neighbor as thy self.
53  And everyone went to his own house.
With the close of this chapter all went home, referring to this counsel of leaders, but I wonder where Jesus went to rest his head?

Proverbs 17:10-19
10  Rebuke is more effective for a wise man Than a hundred blows on a fool.
11  An evil man seeks only rebellion; Therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him.
12  Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs, Rather than a fool in his folly.
13  Whoever rewards evil for good, Evil will not depart from his house.
14  The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.
15  He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
16  Why is there in the hand of a fool the purchase price of wisdom, Since he has no heart for it?
17  A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.
18  A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in a pledge, And becomes surety for his friend.
19  He who loves transgression loves strife, And he who exalts his gate seeks destruction.
Father God, we thank you for the love you have for us by sending your only begotten Son to die on the Cross for us to redeem us of our sins.  Amen!
Gospel of John 7:31-44 NKJV
This week’s lesson we learn the similarity of the sacrifice on the eighth day (last day) of the Feast of Tabernacles and Jesus death on the Cross. Is this why Jesus cried out what He did? Also we learn of the Holy Spirit and how He moves in our lives.
31  And many of the people believed in Him, and said, "When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?"
And many of the people believed in Him; The “many people” here is referring to the crowd of people attending the Feast of Tabernacles, but not the Pharisees and Scribes. They had seen Jesus miracles and heard Him preach and therefore believed He was the Messiah, but didn’t have the courage to proclaim it.
And said, "When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done; What this phrase is saying is this; If this isn’t Christ, then what other signs would Christ perform? We have seen Him raise the dead, cure the lame, the blind to see, the deaf to hear, etc. These miracles are awesome and were prophesized by Isaiah that Christ would do such things, yet the Jews never made the connection. Isaiah 35:5-6 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.  6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.
32  The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning Him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take Him.
The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning Him; You can almost picture this scene, the Leaders up in a higher place above the crowd of people and observing groups of people whispering among themselves. People going from one group to another stating this must be the Messiah based on the things He has done and says. No doubt the leaders had spies throughout the crowd listening to the murmuring and reporting back what was being said also.
And the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take Him; These two groups at this point has joined forces against Jesus and sent officials to bring Him before the Sanhedrin. Two main reasons why they sought to stop this movement toward Jesus was; one Jesus was teaching against all they had known and taught to believe; second they feared losing their following and financial support.
33  Then Jesus said to them, "I shall be with you a little while longer, and then I go to Him who sent Me.
Then Jesus said to them, "I shall be with you a little while longer; Actually what Jesus is saying here is that He will be with them for another six months or until the next Passover when He becomes the sacrificial lamb for mankind. Most likely base on the previous verse Jesus is stating this to the officers sent to take Him. In other words, I will be leaving soon so don’t bother detaining me now.
And then I go to Him who sent Me; Here Jesus re-emphasizes that His existence is from God, was sent by God, and will return to God to sit at His right hand.
34  You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come."
You will seek Me, and not find Me; Meaning in the future when Jesus is gone from earth things will turn ugly and great persecution will come upon the people and the temple will be destroyed. Then they will seek the Messiah for deliverance and will not find Him.
And where I am you cannot come; This whole verse is to be understood as future, though the words “am and cannot” are both in the present tense. Simply meaning, “Where I shall be you will not be able to come”. He, the Messiah, would be in heaven; and though they would earnestly desire His presence and aid to save the city and nation from the Romans, they would not be able to obtain it because of their disbelief and rebellious ways and accepting Him as the Messiah.
35  Then the Jews said among themselves, "Where does He intend to go that we shall not find Him? Does He intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?
Then the Jews said among themselves, "Where does He intend to go that we shall not find Him; Here again Jesus is speaking spiritually while the Jews are thinking carnally. Even today are humanism gets in the way with thinking spiritually and pulls a dark veil down over our hearts.
Those that aren’t true believers think with their darkened minds and not their hearts, therefore believing a lie and not the truth of God’s Word. A Born Again Christian believes every word of the Bible and tries to live according to the Bible and nothing else.
Does He intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks; What this phrase is saying is this; Is He thinking of leaving the country and going to the Jews that have traveled and settled in other lands? Maybe He will even teach the Greeks!
36  What is this thing that He said, 'You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come'?"
Simply put that they were bewildered as to what Jesus said. Put yourself in the shoes of these people. Would you understand what Jesus said; would you believe He was the Messiah; would you be able to think spiritually; can you think spiritually now? Something to ponder!
Even today many people find it hard to truly believe. They are too busy; I don’t want to give up smoking, drinking, drugs, adultery, gambling, fornication, or some other vise the flesh takes pleasure in; or there is always tomorrow to get saved; or this is life and there is nothing beyond death, etc. The excuses are endless, but one never knows when their last breathe will happen. Today is the day of Salvation!
37  On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.
If you remember this feast lasted eight days so the last day mentioned here was the eighth day. On this day, a priest would draw water from the Pool of Siloam in a golden vessel, and take it to the temple. At the morning sacrifice, while it was on the Altar, he poured this water mingled with wine on it, the people all the while singing with great joy.
Knowing this information do you understand why Jesus cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink”. Can you see the resemblance? The Cross is the altar; Jesus is the sacrifice; the mingled water and wine is what flowed from the sacrifice when it was poured on it, the same that flowed from Jesus side when the lance pierced Him; Jesus is the Living Water! John 19:34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
Several things are said here in this verse: 1) “Jesus stood and cried”: This invitation of salvation is given and meant for all to hear. 2) “If any man”: This speaks of any and all, Jew and Gentile, irrespective of color or race. 3) “Thirst”: This thirst is from the spiritual part of man, and cannot be quenched or satisfied in any other way or manner, other than Jesus. 4) “Let him”: This means that nothing is to hinder the seeking soul. As the Holy Spirit deals with his heart, nothing must stand in his way as he comes to Christ. 5) “Come unto Me”: Obviously, this speaks of Jesus. He alone is the answer and can quench the thirst. 6) “And drink”: This takes Salvation out of the philosophical, and places it in the realm of the personal, with One Person, the Lord Jesus Christ, dealing with another person, the believing sinner. To “drink” is to believe!
38  He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
He who believes in Me; What must one believe here? One must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, Who came down to this earth in the form of Man, and paid the price at Calvary’s Cross for man’s Redemption. One must believe that accepting Him as one’s Saviour, provides Salvation, and that it cannot be earned but is a Free Gift.
As the Scripture has said; This is most likely referring to this verse; (Isaiah 58:11 The LORD will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.) along with Isaiah 44:3-4; Joel 3:18.
Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water; This phrase is referring to the Holy Spirit within a Born Again Christians heart. Jesus used the term living water in John 4:10 to indicate eternal life. Here he uses the term to refer to the Holy Spirit. The two go together: Wherever the Holy Spirit is accepted, he brings eternal life. Jesus teaches more about the Holy Spirit in chapters 14-16.
The lesson here is: that ceremonies, however magnificent, revered, and scriptural, can never satisfy the deep thirst of the soul. That thirst can only be satisfied by personal union with the Lord Jesus by Faith. For He is the Smitten Rock Who in Resurrection Power sends forth a stream of life to dying men and to a thirsty world (Williams).
39  But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
But this He spoke concerning the Spirit; This is speaking of the Holy Spirit that is present in a Born Again Christians heart, a heart that changes from stone to a heart of flesh when a person places their faith in Jesus Christ; a spirit of regeneration and sanctification; a spirit of illumination and conversion; a spirit of faith and adoption. This Spirit is received upon believing, but on the day of Pentecost, the Apostles and others received a larger extraordinary measure of the Spirit with the evidence being speaking in tongues, to qualify them for greater work and service.
Whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; The key word here is “would”, not until after Jesus death, resurrection, and ascension to Heaven would anyone that repents and accepts Jesus as their Saviour, receive the Holy Spirit within. John 16:7
Because Jesus was not yet glorified; Jesus was glorified when He rose from the dead.
40  Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, "Truly this is the Prophet."
That is, the prophet whom they expected to precede the coming of the Messiah, either Elijah or Jeremiah.  Matthew 16:14 So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." Deuteronomy 18:15
41  Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Will the Christ come out of Galilee?
This state’s they did not Scripturally connect where Jesus was born.
42  Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?"
Jesus was of the Seed of David, and was born in Bethlehem, however, it seems that they somewhat misunderstood Micah’s prediction (Micah 5:1-2), thinking that the Messiah would make Bethlehem his home not Galilee. However, Micah did not say that, but only that this “Ruler of Israel” would come out of Bethlehem. Jesus fulfilled that, when He was born in that small village.
43  So there was a division among the people because of Him.
This division is a result of not knowing what Scripture states and what town Jesus was born in by the Jewish people.
44  Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
Most probable it was the officials sent from the Sanhedrin that wanted to arrest Jesus at this point, but was restrained by the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit of God had His hand on Jesus during this whole discourse protecting Him. It is simply amazing what the Holy Spirit can do in our daily lives if we will submit ourselves to Jesus. Have you accepted Jesus as your Saviour? Today is the day of Salvation! 2 Corinthians 6:2 For He says: "IN AN ACCEPTABLE TIME I HAVE HEARD YOU, AND IN THE DAY OF SALVATION I HAVE HELPED YOU." Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
