Psalms 128:1-6 A Song of Ascents. Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, Who walks in His ways. When you eat the labor of your hands, You shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine In the very heart of your house, Your children like olive plants All around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed Who fears the LORD. The LORD bless you out of Zion, And may you see the good of Jerusalem All the days of your life. Yes, may you see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel!
Father God, we thank you for taking a special interest in us and sending your Son Jesus Christ to us in human flesh so that we might have a chance for eternal life. It is out of love that you did this, because your desire is that all might be saved. John 3:16-17 I ask for special blessings for anyone that reads these lessons and that their eyes and mind be opened. Let the revelation of the Cross be revealed to them, so they can receive that free gift of Grace you have for them. May they find peace and comfort in your Word. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
Book of Hebrews 2:10-18 NKJV
The last lesson was still presenting fact of Jesus superiority over the angels. The balance of this chapter is about salvation. What salvation is and that Jesus is the only one that can save us from the pits of Hell because of His pure divine sinless nature and dying for us. Without this act of love we would not have a chance for eternal life with Jesus in Heaven because we are born with the sin nature that we inherited from Adam. I am so thankful for Jesus dying on the Cross for me, because without His sacrifice I would be doomed for eternal darkness.
Some of these verses are difficult to understand due to the way they are written. I will do my best to explain them, because these verses are so important in understanding what salvation is all about.
10  For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
This verse would be better understood if it was written as such: God, who made all of creation for himself, also choose to bring many children into glory. It was only right that He should make Jesus, through the suffering on the Cross, a perfect leader, fit to bring mankind to salvation.
For it was fitting for Him; Meaning God.
For whom are all things and by whom are all things; God created all things for himself. Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
In bringing many sons to glory; It is God’s desire that all will come to Him to be saved. John 3:15 so that everyone who believes in Him will have eternal life.
To make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings; In order for mankind to have a chance to be saved it was only fitting that Jesus would come in human flesh and defeat sin, and then suffer, died, and rise again. It is through understanding this act of love and why it had to take place so that all we have to do is believe and place our faith in the message that the Cross transmits. Because of Adams failure to obey, sin was introduced into the human race and every human being born, is born with sin impregnated flesh. We as ordinary human beings do not have the capability of not sinning. Only Jesus was capable of not sinning, therefore it made Him the perfect sacrifice for us to put our faith in, and when we do that through a confession (A confession to Jesus and not to man, man cannot save a person.) of realizing we are born as sinners and will remain that way through life here on earth, then we need to ask Jesus to save us because we don’t want to live a life that offends Him. Then Jesus will save us through His life giving blood that was perfect, the blood that gives eternal life.
11  For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,
If we rephrase this verse so that we can understand it in our way of speech it would be. So now Jesus and the ones He makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them His brothers and sisters.
For both; This is referring to Jesus and those that come to Him that are Born Again.
He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified; When we humble ourselves and come to Jesus with a broken and contrite heart and accept Him as our life giving Saviour, our sins are made null and void, resulting in us being justified through the shed blood of Jesus. When this happens the Holy Spirit enters our heart; we become a temple of God and the sanctification process begins. With the Holy Spirit residing within we are place under conviction by the Holy Spirit when we sin and even when we think about sinning. The things of the past that we did through human reasoning will all of a sudden bear conviction that it is wrong and sinful against God. Jesus sanctifies those that accept Him as their Saviour.
Are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren; Because of this sanctification, all that are saved belong to God’s family and are called brethren; the true Church. We become one in Christ.
12  saying: "I WILL DECLARE YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN; IN THE MIDST OF THE ASSEMBLY I WILL SING PRAISE TO YOU."
This quotation is from Psalm 22:22. The nature of this psalm is “a Messianic Psalm” and therefore “a Prophetic Psalm” (see Matthew 27:39, 43, 46; John 19:23, 28; Hebrews 2:12). It prophecies “the (cross) sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow”. David wrote this psalm at a time when he was experiencing intense suffering at the hands of Saul but he wrote by inspiration and so does not describe his own sufferings but the sufferings of Christ.
Saying: I WILL DECLARE YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN; This verse is stating that Jesus will proclaim God’s name to those that belong to Him, the church.
IN THE MIDST OF THE ASSEMBLY I WILL SING PRAISE TO YOU; Jesus will praise God because of the great victory of the Cross, which has brought many into the Kingdom.
13  And again: "I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM." And again: "HERE AM I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME."
This verse has two quotes, "I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM." from 2 Samuel 22:3 and the other "HERE AM I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME." from Isaiah 8:18. As you can see these quotes are from the OT which were inspired by the Holy Spirit pointing to the Cross of Christ to come.
And again: "I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM."; Jesus put his trust in God while He was here on earth in human flesh. He prayed to God constantly in fact He would go and find areas of seclusion to be alone with God. In the garden He ask God to take from Him what was soon to happen, but ended the prayer with, “let your will be done”, thus placing his trust in God’s hands. Jesus denied his flesh and gave it all to God, and that is what we need to do to have a close relationship with Him. Luke 22:42 saying, "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done."
And again: "HERE AM I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME."; These children are those that have given their life to Jesus, they are the saved. It is only through faith in what Jesus did that people can be saved and called children of God. It is only through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and placing their faith in the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus for us, that will redeem us. This is what faith is all about, we can’t touch it, hear it, taste it, put it in a jar or bank for future use. It is like the wind, we don’t know where it comes from, where it is going, we can only see it by the movement of trees thus we are aware of its presence, the wind has no taste, but we know it is real and we accept it along with the coolness of a gentle breeze or the forces of a hurricane. Faith in what and why Jesus had to suffer, die, be buried, and rise to the seat of the right hand of God, is the same. We just need to accept it, believe, and place our trust in Jesus.
14  Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood; This is speaking of human creation being of flesh and blood, not angelic or of a spiritual nature.
He; Himself likewise shared in the same; This refers to Jesus that also took on human flesh.
That through death; The purpose of Jesus coming to earth in human flesh and blood was to defeat sin and be the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. His death on the Cross is atonement for our sins when we accept Him as our Saviour. We are no longer look upon by God as sinful flesh, but as His Sons image because we are washed in the atoning blood of Jesus.
He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil; He of course refers to Jesus. When Jesus defeated sin He also destroyed the power that Satan holds over people, which leads to a second death (spiritual death) and eternity in the Lake of Fire. It is through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus that sets us free from the bonds that Satan holds on us.
Jesus had to become human so that he could die and rise again in order to destroy the devil's power over death. Romans 6:5-11 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,  6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.  7 For he who has died has been freed from sin.  8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,  9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.  10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.  11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Only then could Christ deliver those who had lived in constant fear of death and free them to live for him. When we belong to God, we need not fear death, because we know that death is only the doorway into eternal life (1 Corinthians 15).
To sum this verse up it could be stated like this; Because God's children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could He die, and only by dying could He break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.
15  and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Faith in Jesus releases a person from fear of death because when a person has a Spiritual Birth they are released from the bondage of sin caused by the inherited sin nature. Without this birth, one is in bondage for a lifetime. Christ's death and resurrection sets us free from the fear of death because death has been defeated. Every person must die, but death is not the end; instead, it is the doorway to a new life. All who dread death should have the opportunity to know the hope that Christ's victory brings. Do you fear death? If so, you need to ask yourself what your faith is in, Jesus and what He did for you on the Cross or religious dogma?
16  For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham.
Jesus did not come to help angels; He came to help the descendants of Abraham and whosoever desires life through a second birth. John 3:3-7
17  Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
In the Old Testament, the high priest was the mediator between God and his people. His job was to regularly offer animal sacrifices according to the law and to intercede with God for forgiveness of the people's sins. Jesus Christ is now our High Priest. He came to earth as a human being; therefore, he understands our weaknesses and shows mercy to us. He has once and for all paid the penalty for our sins by his own sacrificial death (atonement), and he can be depended on to restore our broken relationship with God. We are released from sin's domination over us when we commit ourselves fully to Jesus Christ, trusting completely in what he has done for us on the Cross.
18  For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
Knowing that Jesus suffered pain and faced temptation gives us consolation when we face trials and tribulations. Jesus understands our struggles because he faced them as a human being. We can trust Christ to help us survive suffering and overcome temptation. When we face trials, we need to go Jesus for strength and patience. He understands our needs and is able to help. Hebrews 4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.  15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.  16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you,
unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Sinners Prayer; Pray this, and if you believe it with your heart, Jesus will save you!

“Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner.  I confess my sins to you; I am sorry for my sins; I repent (Meaning, desiring to turn from a sinful lifestyle.) of all my sins, and I am asking for your forgiveness of all of my sins.  I believe that only you can forgive sin.  I commit my life to you and ask you to come into my heart, direct, and take charge of my life.  I believe that you died to set me free from my sinful lifestyle and you rose from the dead to give me eternal life, and right now you are seated at the Right Hand of God Almighty. I believe you are the Son of God; the only Way, the only Truth, the only Life, and my Savior.”  I believe this and have faith you will make a new person out of me, by sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and lead me in a new life. In Jesus name I pray Amen.”  (John 3:16,17; Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 John 5:11-14; 1:6-10) (Sin: Rom. 1:22-32; Gal. 5:19-21; Eph. 5:3-7)
