The Lord’s Prayer
6-22-2011 Vol. 4 Part 11
Psalm 36:1-12 NKJV An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. For he flatters himself in his own eyes, When he finds out his iniquity and when he hates. The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good. He devises wickedness on his bed; He sets himself in a way that is not good; He does not abhor evil. Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O LORD, You preserve man and beast. How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light. Oh, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, And Your righteousness to the upright in heart. Let not the foot of pride come against me, And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away. There the workers of iniquity have fallen; They have been cast down and are not able to rise. Father God we praise your name, we ask that you watch over, comfort, and console those that have hardships and loved ones lost during this tornado season. You are awesome! Thank you Jesus! Amen!
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
This last statement is in some Bibles and not in others. It doesn’t matter what religion either. Some Protestant Bibles have it and some don’t. The same holds true for the Catholic Bibles. Personally I don’t know why you wouldn’t include it in the prayer. It puts closure on the prayer and it also closes the prayer with giving our Father praise and glory, as you can see for below. Some of the versions are hard to read, but I think you will get the idea. The “U” is pronounced as V’s and the “V” is pronounce as U’s.
·         (ASV)  And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
·         (Bishops)  And leade vs not into temptation, but delyuer vs from euyll. For thyne is the kyngdome, and the power, and the glory, for euer. Amen.
·         (DRB)  And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.
·         (Geneva)  And leade vs not into tentation, but deliuer vs from euill: for thine is the kingdome, and the power, and the glorie for euer. Amen.
·         (ISV)  And never bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'
·         (KJV)  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
·         (KJV-1611)  And lead vs not into temptation, but deliuer vs from euill: For thine is the kingdome, and the power, and the glory, for euer, Amen.
·         (NASB)  'And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]'
·         (NIrV)  Keep us from falling into sin when we are tempted. Save us from the evil one.'
·         (NIV)  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'
·         (NKJV)  And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
·         (NLT)  And don't let us yield to temptation,  but rescue us from the evil one. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]
·         (TNIV)  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'
Let’s end the Lord’s Prayer with the statement, and see how it ties in with the rest of the prayer.
As you can see the prayer starts with and ends with praising God our creator, if the statement is left in the prayer.
·         Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name.
·         For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
This last statement is in total symmetry with the prayer as a whole. Did you realize that? Take a look and see how it summarizes the prayer and closes with “Amen”.
Ø  “Your kingdom come” and “Yours is the kingdom.”
Ø  “Your will be done” and “Yours is the power.”
Ø  “Hallowed be Your name” and “Yours is the glory.”
Ø  “On earth as it is in heaven” and “Forever.”
After meditating on this last statement and what it says, why wouldn’t we end the prayer with it? Why would we end it with our needs and wants which would echo in our ears me, me, me? What should be echoing in our ears at the close of the prayer should be about God’s sovereignty over our lives. God is to be number one in our lives above all humans and all things.
The closing words of this prayer teach us four major truths about God. These four truths are what we need to remember each and every day as we go through our daily lives.
Praise God for His Sovereignty:
The greatest sovereignty of God is the fact that He appointed His own Son to be king of this world.
§  He is King of the Jews; Matthew 2:2.
§  He is King of Israel; John 1:49.
§  He is the King eternal; 1 Timothy 1:17.
§  He is the King of glory; Psalm 24:7.
§  He is King of the saints; Revelation 15:3.
§  He is King of kings; Revelation 19:16.
When you read that Jesus is King of kings and ruler over all of earths rulers you have to wonder what is going on in the world today. If you have studied Revelation, Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah, etc. you will understand what is going on in the present world and that God is in control and His will is being done and prophecy is being fulfilled. As time moves on God will bring order out of the present chaos that we are in. Jesus presence will be known to all as He rules and reigns with us.
Praise God for His Power:
God is all powerful and there isn’t anything he can’t do. Revelation 19:6 NKJV  And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! All things are possible with God (Mark 10:27), and sometimes we think we know what we need, but in reality our human minds really don’t know what is best. God has the capability of seeing what ten million dollars would do to us, and if we are under His care, He won’t turn us over to the immorality that could come with such an amount of money.
With all things being possible with God, sometimes it is hard to understand why some of our prayers are not answered. I even wonder why myself on some things I pray for, but I have to accept what is handed down because I know God is watching out for me. He won’t give us things we can’t handle. After all he has the big screen TV! It is most comforting knowing He is in control when you give your heart to Jesus.
Just reading the Bible you know God is all powerful, otherwise how do you explain things like:
·         Miracles in Exodus when He delivered the Israelites.
·         Parting of the Red Sea and the other times He parted the Jordan.
·         He made you and me.
·         He delivered Daniel’s three friends from the fiery furnace.
·         He spoke the heavens, stars, and earth into existence.
·         The many miracles Jesus and the Apostles did.
The list goes on and on. Every day we need to thank God Almighty for being in control. The throne is not empty. God is there and, seated and in sovereign control. He is an awesome, almighty, powerful  God.
Praise God for His Majesty:
God covers Himself with light as with a garment Psalm 104:2. He clothes himself with light in the same way that we put on our clothes every day. He is light, and in Him is no darkness at all 1 John 1:5.
Gods light fills this earth and if He removes it, ultimate darkness would take over. In the future there will not be any need for the sun or moon, because God’s light will illuminate the new earth. Revelation 21:23 NKJV  The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.
Praise God for His Eternity:
Eternity is something that is difficult for us to grasp, at least it is for me. It is like thinking about space. It just goes on forever. Eternity means time will never stop. If you are a Born Again Christian that means you will spend eternity in Heaven. God is the same today as he was in the past and will be the same in the future. Hebrews 13:8 NKJV Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So if people think God has changed, they are wrong. Our God is a good and just God that has no gray area. His Commandments are the same today as they were when they were given to Moses. If anyone thinks God has changed and will grant passage into Heaven because someone is sort of good, they are wrong. Just start reading the Old Testament and you will soon see, that when God’s people turned their back on Him, the punishment was tough and quite often, death. If you keep 9 of the 10 Commandments, you will still be condemned in God’s court of law. James 2:10-11 NKJV  For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.  11  For He who said, "DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY," also said, "DO NOT MURDER." Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. Don’t be fooled by the adultery and murder commandments, because scripture also states; Matthew 5:28  But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.; and 1 John 3:15 NKJV  Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. If you haven’t committed your life to Jesus, do it today, put your faith in Jesus, and start living for Him. For you now not what the morrow may bring.
Next week will conclude this series.

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God!
Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth,
Unless you are Born Again, you cannot enter into Heaven, the Kingdom of God."

Last Week’s Trivia: Who’s hand withered and arm froze in an extended position? Why did this happen?
Answer: 1 Kings 13:4 NKJV  So it came to pass when King Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, who cried out against the altar in Bethel, that he stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, "Arrest him!" Then his hand, which he stretched out toward him, withered, so that he could not pull it back to himself. The rest of the answer lies in chapter 12. Worshipping something other than God (idolatry) and man appointed high priests.
This week’s Trivia: Can pools of water suddenly appear out of nowhere?
